    I’m 53yrs old. I was an OTR truck driver for 32yrs. I had to retire in 2018 due to a bad heart condition. I traveled through every state gathered every picture in my head that I could. But seeing you all finding all these little places, eateries, and such. Makes me want to drive you to these places so you all can relax and be full of extra energy for your hike so everyone can continue to enjoy the spectacular views and big smiles.

    I have to say that I'm quite impressed by the continual improvement you've shown in your filming and editing skills over the past year. Also, the new format of spending more time at individual locations is a winning strategy and beats just pointing a camera at a particular hotspot for a few seconds. Keep up the great work.

  • @WhenAdventureKnox
    @WhenAdventureKnox 3 роки тому +1

    I had no idea of the story behind Dead Horse Point! 🐎 I didn't revisit the state park 2 years ago, but it was pretty infamous back in 2010. Before heading out there, I'd accidentally left my laptop (with 10 months worth of photos from my time living in Toronto and travels that followed) out on a picnic bench at a campground in Moab. Didn't realise until we were out at Dead Horse Point and assumed someone would have taken off with it by the time we got back. Amazingly, the laptop was still sat on the picnic bench on our return 😲 So it was nice to watch this and take in the views without feeling sick to my stomach!! Laughed so much at Adam saying he wouldn't drink the milk because of pride, meanwhile, Kathryn you're in the background swilling around and almost empty cup not caring at all! 🤣 It was really nice to see Corona Arch. Our Air BnB host a few years back had encouraged us to go to it but we ran out of time. You were so fortunate to have the arch to yourselves! 🙌 I am so happy you guys spent so much time in Utah and it looks like you've had a great time. Especially pleased you did the Devil's Garden trail in Arches. I had wondered if Colorado would be your next point of call as it will be heating up very quickly in the desert and going into the mountains should make things a little cooler. My money was either on Colorado or Northern California. ❤️

    • @AdventuresofAplusK
      @AdventuresofAplusK  3 роки тому

      Oh my gosh, that restores my faith in humanity after losing it at Mesa Verde haha! And I will say, while Adam ate more of the chicken than me, the milk helped me from feeling heartburn. So I’ll say it was worth my pride lol! We are so glad we spent so much time in Utah as well. Very excited to share Colorado! Northern CA would be epic too! We still have a lot to do there!

    Utah is hands down one of the best states if hiking is your thing.
    Dead Horse... pretty damn cool. It’s basically Grand Canyons Jr. I’ve only seen it in winter, but you can find some amazing sunsets/sun rises there.
    Corona arch, probably one of the more fun, short, day hikes I’ve ever been on. It’s got a bit of everything. Hiking, very mild “climbing”, and light scrambling. The arch itself is MASSIVE once you get right up to it never appreciated how soft sandstone actually was until I felt it give under my fingertips.
    Everyone owes themselves a trip to Utah’s state and national parks.

    We've done a month in the southwest a couple of times without National Parks due to the NPS anti-doggism. You've hit the dog-friendly high-points in Moab, but there is a lot more. One thing is to take a 4WD capable vehicle to get out on some of the jeep trails (some of the easier ones can be done even with the more off-road capable variants of popular AWD crossovers). Besides that, add in some hikes across the slickrock in the Sand Flats recreation area. In the same direction, head up to the Porcupine Rim. And in the Fisher's Towers direction, you can hike Grandstaff and explore Castle Valley. Moab is amazing in having two National Parks and then so much more to do that you don't even really need them.

    • @AdventuresofAplusK
      @AdventuresofAplusK  Рік тому

    Fantastic closing video to a fantastic series of Utah. Incredible adventures you two had here. I normally usually only comment on the hikes and scenery but the food in this video looked amazing. I wish I was at that doughnut shop right now. Keeping the names of these places in my back pocket for future travels.
    That chicken sandwich brought back memories of my own run-in with a spicy chicken sandwich at the Bullfrog Brewery in Williamsport, PA. This was like 8 years ago now and I still remember this thing. I order the sandwich and the waitstaff was like, “no, this sandwich is like really hot.” I did not heed their warnings. Oh my gosh, it was so dang spicy. I am eating this thing and just dripping in sweat. I defeated it but did I really wouldn’t call it winning.
    Dead Horse Point SP was like a light version of the Grand Canyon. That was a really beautiful park.

    The great time I enjoyed growing up there were. picnics in the Aspen forests, deer hunting on the LaSalle mountains, pheasant hunting with my lab in the corn fields. pushing rocks off Dead Horse Point. water skiing and floating in inner tubes on the Colorado River from George White ranch back to town. Diving off the river bridge or the cliffs at the power dam, bonfires on the river sand bars. Finding watermelons in the corn fields. Celebrating our winning at sports at the river spring, trapping coyote, fox and bobcat on the sand flats (lions back). Hikes to the Indian Fort and Endless Cave . Picking fruit for 50c an hour; peaches and apples or tomatoes for HB Evans (physics and Chem teacher) driving in our 46 jeep, up Courthouse Wash to the junction at 7 mile or all the way to Dalton Wells. Discovered a secluded pond in the cliffs and an old still at the 7 mile junction. Fights with blow pipes using willow bark tubes with cotton balls. The country was dry, dry, dry but, now it is green, with berds, squirrels because of Lake Powell. I worked in the movies, for Republic and Universal as a calvaryman and indian.also staked an sold uranium claims to pay for college at Utah State. The LaSalle Mountains would be a back packers paradise. Never saw rattlesnake, poison oak or ivy with plenty of springs, creeks and ponds with trout. The river would be great for inflatable kayaks. However I prefer the rivers in Western Montana with my flyrod, and friends on the Flathead, Blackfoot, Clark Fork, Swan and Clearwater as well as the Snoqualmie, Skokomish, Skagit and Coeur De Alene, Williamette, Columbia and MacKensie in the Pacific NW.

    Wonderful video! At 5:06--"Don't sleep on the state parks. ..." Yes, the Utah State Parks are incredible! You've done several which have been great--Coral Pink Sands Dunes, Goosenecks, and Goblin Valley come immediately to mind. You do such a great job of taking hikes where there aren't a lot of crowds. It's great how you include Kona but keep him on the leash--so considerate!

      It's crazy how overlooked state parks can be! There is so much out there to enjoy beyond the National Parks!
      We are very big on leashing your dog! We truly do not understand the off leash mindset. Not everyone (or other dogs) wants a dog running up to them and not to mention how unsafe it is to let your dog run free in the wilderness with hazards and other dangerous wildlife.
      Kona is our best friend and we try to include her as much as we can!

    We are following your Moab hikes this weekend.. I was so excited to receive the last quesadilla of the 2021 season from Quesadilla Modilla for FREE. They closed their door until next March. I felt so lucky. Tomorrow we’re doing the Corona Arch and Dead Horse Point.. so excited. Thanks for the information ❤️ Doughbird for breakfast to start us off strong 💪🏼

    Back in November I spent five nights at Dead Horse Point Wingate campground. Then dropped down off the plateau to the BLM campground on the Colorado River across the road from the Corona Arch trailhead for two nights. On a previous trip I took a full size Ram truck down off the rim on the Shafer Trail. Most terrifying experience of my life.

      @AdventuresofAplusK  3 роки тому

      That campground across from the corona arch looked very nice! We saw so many awesome river campgrounds in Moab! The Shafer Trail looks INTENSE!

      @@AdventuresofAplusK I've been to all 50 states and over 30 foreign countries. Driven the ALCAN Highway and skied the Swiss Alps and nothing has impressed me more than Southeastern Utah. The drive is almost 1900 miles out there but I have another trip planned to the Bears Ears area in the fall. Weather is a gamble but no crowds in November.

    • @blakew5672
      @blakew5672 3 роки тому

      Never got the chance to do the whole Shafer trail. Went this past January, and the rental company only gave us a 2WD Denali instead of the 4WD we reserved. The trail was straight ice and didn’t trust that we’d make the climb back out.
      Corona Arch trailhead is very unassuming for what’s hidden at the end of it. Truly one of those hidden gems that gets overlooked for the national parks.

    First of all, thank you Adam for telling us about the blue pools, I was hoping I could remember to ask about them and you came to the rescue and told us about them. So interesting! So glad Kona was able to hike with you again. Beautiful hikes in the Utah area, but I'm so excited that you're going to Colorado. I'm a mountain girl myself. We just got home from our month of WA and the PCH. Such a great vaca!!

    I recently found your channel and have been enjoying it, especially Utah around Moab. When we drive through, we usually stay there and visit a park. We can't do any hiking, though due to physical issues and age. One drive that I was going to suggest was Rt. 128. It's like an unadvertised hidden gem going through the canyon. It's like being at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. However, it looks like you took that route to go to the Fisher Towers. Love that part of the country! Thanks for showing it to us in depth and parts we can't get to!
