By far the heaviest marketing of this game is on the firearms, even if they are a very tiny proportion of what's in it or what you actually do in the game. Kind of genius to be honest making it such a sensation in the public eye.
Shooting guns gets more important as you hit late game since your personal DPS with them starts eclipsing your Pals, especially when riding a Pal that gives your personal attacks elemental damage (read: up to 50% more raw damage and adds elemental affinity).

About the break action on the double barrel... Years ago my father had a single shot 12 gauge that, if you pulled the trigger with the hammer down, it'd break open the barrel.. Turns out that if you got a good rhythm going you could double pull the trigger so you'd fire it and open it to reload giving you a surprisingly fast fire rate with a single shot.
The penguin exploding may or may not be a Disgaea reference, there is an enemy/ally unit called Prinny that explodes when you throw them, also say dood at the end of every sentence dood Edit spelling and forgot to mention Prinnies look sort of like blue penguins and are confirmed to be sinning humans post mortem
Has Jonathan Ferguson, keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK, ever done any videos reacting to the various weapons of the Saints Row series?
3:52 In all honesty, the gun reminds me of the Coonan 357 magnum, which is a rather chonky gun. For a second though, it reminded me of an AMT hardballer style 1911. What stopped me is when I took a second look at the length. It'd be too short since the AMT is like a 6" 1911.
Those launchers on the blue dinosaur reminded a little bit of the rocket pods humvees or a striker can mount and also some international design APCs have on them sometimes.

The devs attention to detail is pretty wild. You wouldn't think so at a glance, but it's clear that a lot of effort has gone into the game. The pals animations are varied and well done and the weapons are well designed, except for some creative liberty here and there.
I was shocked that this video was actually fun to watch. I thought it was going to be one of those "It's not realistic" videos complaining about things being unrealistic. Games are all about fun. This video was fun. Well done.
3:54 is Jonathan-ese for "I'm in awe at the size of this lad. absolute unit"
The story of them developing the shooting mechanics is crazy
Jonathan is fantastic as always but I’m loving the consistently growing banter with Dave. Amazing work as always keep it up
It will be more terrifying if the penguin screams towards it's target.
remember Angry Birds? this is him now
feel old yet?
@@elinelai1891 More like, crying birds
It should scream "DOOOOOOOD!" as it goes flying through the air
@@TAMAMO-VIRUS That kind of works; at the least the penguin shouldn't sound angry or sad or frightened. After all, they enjoy the sensations of flight so much they're eager to get shot out of a launcher.
@@DanaOtken It's a preference to Prinny, a type of penguin that usually got launched like a missle
On the double-barrel shotgun, when one shot is fired you can see one hammer has snapped forward and the other remains cocked. That's some real nice attention to detail.
"Because you can" should be Palworld's slogan.
So much you can do, so much you shouldn't do.
2:13 I remember in the 6th grade my class spent a weekend at a civil war era military barracks and did fake military drills and got to fire unloaded muskets.
On the first day one of the girls left her thumb where the hammer slammed down and had to have it wrapped for the rest of the trip.
"Did I see you cutting down trees with an assault rifle?!"
"Yeh."
What a world indeed, gentlemen.
As the founding fathers intended
Hey, as long as it works..
I just want to repeat that the addition of more Jonathan-Dave banter is awesome and I love it!
I just realized that grizzbolt can be his own minigun's battery
Maybe the two cocking handles on the pump action shotgun (bolt carrier and pump grip) were inspired by the Franchi SPAS-12?
The Benelli M3 also has that feature and looks closest to what is in the game.
That’s what I was thinking. He’s handled the Spas-12, no clue why he made that comment knowing full well there are ones with both.
@@theiceisnice Yeah fair, could've been that. SPAS 12 was just the first that came to mind when I heard 'two charging handles'.
Yet the spas 12 is both pump and semi. Jonathan's right that there would be no point to a bolt handle for a pump only shotgun.
@@jojomaster7675 Yeah, I thought so too after our friend here mentioned the Benelli M3 for example. I just kinda spat out SPAS-12 because it came to mind, first, so I apologize. Byeah, you're absolutely right that it's redundant on a pump only system.
The idea that the Pengullet having a helmet when shoved into a rocket launcher sounds so cute and hilarious. Devs, add this!
Jonathan killed it with that Helmet idea!! They better add it!
They even got the tilting barrel in the "1911" reload. Solid effort.
Would've never expected this game to get covered here, this was hilarious!
Loved the banter between Dave and Jonathan this time round, great episode!
Never expected them to do this game, very pleasant surprise!
When Palworld has trigger discipline 😳
The development team wanted to add guns to appeal more to western markets, but they had trouble finding people with knowledge of both guns AND making and animating game models in Japan.
They eventually found someone posting videos of their own reload animations they were making for fun on social media and got to work on tracking them down, they eventually found him working part time in a convenience store and asked him to come work for them.
YES he remembered Dino Riders! I was a big fan of that cartoon series as a kid (we didn't have the toys sold here).
I am 100% in agreement that the penguin missile needs a tiny adorable helmet.
Also I'm pretty sure that the AKs are in fact designed and built specifically for the monkeys, because your player character can't wield them, and they're assembled on different workbenches using a different part of the tech tree.
Ok, I now need the cat tax of Cobweb, Jonathan Ferguson the Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history.
The fact that you guys genuinely seem like friends (or just have good chemistry/shared interests) makes these such a joy to watch.
Kudos to the animators, hopefully they watch the video and take notes. Having the penguin with a helmet while being loaded up would be a great idea
Lifmunk's SMG 5:08 actually resembles the Kris Vector with the stock/brace removed, the only detracting feature is that it appears to be fitted with a 7.62 AK magazine instead of the Glock-style stick or drum magazine the Vector should be using
11:09 I would say the assault rifle looks closer to a 5.56 FN SCAR than an AR-18.
It's got the ugg boot SCAR stock, but the rest seems pretty different
For me it's giving BREN 2
his reaction to the guns and handling pretty much matched mine. It's surprisingly thoughtful considering the nature of the game. there are a handful of funky bits, but otherwise surprisingly well thought out. It is a shockingly strange game.
The Pengullets are basically Prinnies. I love it
I've been loving Palworld and for quite an unknown studio the weapons feel pretty nice to fire
Pushing as always for you guys to have Jonathan cover Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and to cover the M8 and MRI Caseless specifically as well.
I have been posting for you to do this in every video a year back now.
I appreciate how the 1911 even depicts the tilting barrel. Have to wonder if the holes in the slide are intentionally there to draw attention to it.
I realized that museum curators such as Mr Ferguson are actually the people that can handle any firearm not some special forces operatives. Who else can show how to reload anything from a musket to H&K MP5?
8:38 this gun could be based on a benellie M3 where it both have a semi auto and a pump version which explains it having charging handle despite being a pump. Furthur examining it the safety for gun gun does resemble the real thing
Would be awesome to see Johnathan react to the weapons from the FEAR games.
"This shotgun is based of a Heckler&Koch CAWS. Unfortunately we have none in our collection".
Honestly Jonathan Ferguson makes these videos a must watch. So entertaining.
3 Japanese guys in an alley made the goofy game millions of people wanted, and that's great.
18:15
I love how he acknowledged what gun he should have brought and decides to show off
I was thinking this would come out soon.
The penguin exploding may or may not be a Disgaea reference, there is an enemy/ally unit called Prinny that explodes when you throw them, also say dood at the end of every sentence dood
Edit spelling and forgot to mention Prinnies look sort of like blue penguins and are confirmed to be sinning humans post mortem
DOOD!
it could also reference the "learn to fly" flash games, given how pengullet's only aspiration is to fly
Johnathons comment about ppe for the pengullet reminded me of that scene in labrynth where they fire a goblin out of a cannon gave me a good giggle
+1 week pushing for a E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy, Darkwatch or Resistance episode.
I feel so tired because I couldn't sleep.....
An episode on EYE: Divine Cybermancy would make me so happy
Please give us eye divine cybermancy
Oh god, I haven't played that game since Uni... but yes, E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy is a good pick to go for.
I thought the single shot rifle was base of the Martini-Henry due to breach loading 11:07
Has Jonathan Ferguson, keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK, ever done any videos reacting to the various weapons of the Saints Row series?
At 5:30 that SMG's shillouete reminds me of the 10mm SMG from Fallout, as well as looking like a Bolter Pistol.
I guess Dave wanted an excuse to play Palworld hehe
And now I need a break from it hahah

In all honesty, the gun reminds me of the Coonan 357 magnum, which is a rather chonky gun. For a second though, it reminded me of an AMT hardballer style 1911. What stopped me is when I took a second look at the length. It'd be too short since the AMT is like a 6" 1911.
COBWEB!!
little Cobbie!
I love that name and I love that shirt. They are adorable.
Another small detail I like with the musket in game is how the powder ignites in the flash pan first before the round is fired.
yea i noticed that
the guns felt weirdly good looking for such a silly game, its dope
The gun of the pal on the char's head actually reminds me of one of the assault rifles from Hellgate: London. Still have my physical copy lol
You know what would be really funny? If this was the game to listen to you and correct their limited mistakes.
Those launchers on the blue dinosaur reminded a little bit of the rocket pods humvees or a striker can mount and also some international design APCs have on them sometimes.
Does anyone else find it disturbing that a person with access to so many firearms thinks that building AKMs for monkeys intriguing (and alarming)? 😂😂 😂😂
I've never seen any mainstream recognition of Dino Riders. I loved that as a kid. Jonathan can not be cooler!
WE NEED TO SEE MORE OF JONATHAN'S CAT!!!
I didnt expect Jonathan reacting to the guns of palworld, but still relevant and make sense since the guns show real world counterparts
Alright cobweb is actually a good name for cat
I legit thought of Dino-Riders as well and I'm SO glad to see I'm not alone in remembering that series. We NEED that in a game form.
"This is well done. Why is this well done?"
Just as a small note I think that pump action with a charging handle might be based on the Beneli m3, much like the SPASS 12 it has both semi auto and pump action mode but it actually works as a weapon
If there were ever to be an Internet personality with whom I’d like to play in a Minecraft world with, it’s Johnathan. No, I neither shall nor will elaborate.
Obviously, there would need to be a firearms mod installed
@@tristanalexander3275
You just elaborated.
[Mission Failed : We'll Get 'em Next Time]
8:39 If anything, it makes me think of the Benelli M3 Super 90 - Which can work as either pump-action or semi-auto.
PPE? What's that?
Also Serious Sam weapons!
Personal Protective Equipment.
Also YES on the serious Sam weapons.
