    Johnathan, there is a “black powder” only season for Whitetail deer in West Virginia every year. While many people use the more modern “in-line” smoothbore guns, there are still many people who use reproduction muzzle-loaders no different than what would have been used to hunt Whitetail 150-200 years ago.
    My father has, hanging on a wall in his basement, a “Virginia Rifle” manufactured in the 1750s, which belonged to one of our ancestors (I believe the brother of his great-great-great grandfather) and which was used in or around the time of the American Revolution.

    Yeah, the lack of velocity imparted by black powder weapons(comparatively speaking, of course) is the reason for the 2-bore and 4-bore "stopping rifles". When you absolutely had to put something down, the only way you could reliably do that was with a heavier bullet, since there was a notable limit on the pressure you could develop, and so the velocity you could impart, on a bullet.

    9:57 The heavy weapons being handheld really only makes sense when wearing Power Armor, since in-universe that's what Power Armor was built to do. So instead of needing an armored vehicle to carry the .50 Cal to the frontline, you just have one guy in the suit carrying it around.
    21:10 You have to unlock the Gauss Minigun by raising your reputation with the Raiders faction at the Crater settlement. It's a very powerful weapon, but its ammo is among the heavier ammo types in the game.

    You can actually retrieve some of the black powder weapons from John Brown's Fort which is both a museum in game and IRL Is in fact right next door Harper's Ferry Armory where massive numbers of firearms were produced with the "Fort" being the armory's firehouse where John Brown made his last stand and was the only original building of the armory left standing after the Civil War.

  • @Goodzikc
    @Goodzikc 28 днів тому

    Absolutely loved the video as always! In the games defense, the high damaged of the black powder weapons is allowed and or needed as an offset to the slow reload time for balancing. Also the leveling system (though needed due to being a multiplayer open world game) is more of a holdover from its original form upon release. In the initial release enemies would grow stronger depending on the region, and so as you gained higher levels, you needed higher damaging weapons to deal with new threats etc. This allowed for players to have a good idea of the grade and ability of their equipment, relative to the strength of the enemies in a zone this was changed in future updates where now the enemies level is scaled to each players level (so if two players are looking at the same enemy to one it may be a level 100 and to the other its a level 5) so that newer/low level players could play with their higher level friends. Also (something that is still relevant) is that balance wise it allows the game to level lock certain weapons so that you don't have a level 1 player running around with a fatman or auto grenade launcher just decimating all the low level enemies and/or causing a mess.
    Fun fact: Fallout 4 had a similar system to this, though being a single player game was able to be implemented more subtly. At higher levels enemies start using/spawning less with pipe weapons and more with combat rifles etc. the higher levels allow you to unlock more levels of gun nut, allowing you to modify your weapon to deal more damage to the now higher level and stronger enemies etc.

    With regards to the 10mm Smg it is a pre war weapon. In general fallout for ballistic weapons follow a very unique design philosophy due to the resource wars and lack of oil supply most modern weapons in the lore are basically just steel aluminum and wood with some rubber. Very little plastics or bakelite. Giving it a very unique design aesthetic as well since it blends in ww2 weapons (which were still in use by many groups), 70s esque weapons, and mashed up modernish weapons with some post war hodgepodges as well.
    The barrel modifications regarding it are likely post war but do still fit with the weapon designs we’ve seen prior of it.

    If you want to replicate the shotgun effect with gauss gun you just have a 'cartridge' with multiple projectiles (shots or dart etc.) of non ferromagnetic material sit on ferromagnetic sabot. Basically the shotgun shell without the shell, gunpowder and primer.
