    Spot on video especially regarding New York. I love just walking the streets of Manhattan and people watching wherever I go to NY. There are so many great styles and inspiration for sure.

    For me the sweet spot is finding the area between casual and formal. The Miami style will always be my favorite because of its cool laid back look.

      That's how I feel too. Finding that balance is important. I like the Miami style a lot, except I'm not so much one for Cuban collared shirts. I like linen button-downs. I'm also starting to experiment more with jewelry.

    I’m out here in Vegas. My style varies as I enjoy displaying a multitude of influences.
    Personally I’ve actually been told by complete strangers, multiple times, that they’d swear I was from Miami due to my vibe and clothing.
    One of my favorite memories was trying on and purchasing my first linen suit. Also learning that there are different grades and qualities to linen…they are not all made equally.
    Incorporating various straw and Panamanian hats, Kangol summer flat caps, the braided loafer dress shoes, aviators and other slick shades, the right colognes…
    Who wouldn’t want to dapper it up? 😎

      Thank you for sharing, Kenneth! Where I am on the West Coast, I often find it too hot for a tie (other than lightweight knit ties) and I often go for linen shirts

    Miami may be in the south geographically, but the whole state of Florida has a unique culture from the rest of the “south”. There’s a saying that in Florida “The further north you go, the more southern it gets”.

    I kinda like the New York styles.
    I live in Sweden so as much ss i loved Miami Vice that would feel rather weird here ( a bit too cold and dark ).
    It might work at a club.
    I think i might have a rather British taste.

    • @Gent.Z
      @Gent.Z  9 місяців тому +3

      For a club, I think you could definitely incorporate the t-shirt or Cuban collared shirt underneath a darker suit with some casual accessories!
      As you can tell, I'm British, but I have found a lot of style inspiration from the gentlemen here since I moved to the US.
      Nevertheless, Britain has a great history of style.

    Another great vid.
    As a Brooklyn-born,African-American man,
    I look at the American South,
    the way a Sabra paratrooper,
    may look at Germany. But I can understand your affinity.
    100% agree with you about New York City and Miami.

    Totally interesting where I live in South Florida where it’s constantly hot and humid so when I had the opportunity to go to New York during winter and bust out the wool, I was delighted. With most of the south, it really depends the area and setting. The country estates definitely fit the aesthetic, but some basic suburban area would match rather where a team T-shirt with athletic attire. It definitely is hard to wear a lot of my vintage 50s and 60s pieces that were meant for New York and Boston when it’s 82 degrees in February. I am a university student so many yet times I have to dress down my attire with an open collar and no neckwear..

    In the Chicago area, Brooks was the style leader. Jos A. Bank also. Summer is so very hot here, winter can be very cold. Therefore, we can take style inspiration from most anywhere. Linen shirts, linen trousers, Levis, white sneakers. Sperry shoes of all kinds, have been very practical. Leather shoes can be from Church's. They had a presence here once. The usual leather shoe brands are here, including leather boots. East coast influences include chinos, Nantuckett reds, camel hair polo coats and Burburry trench coats. I dont see Italian suits here. We need more room! Therefore, we look to the British for double breasted, if we are not being fitted by Brooks. Thank you for this video discussion. I never see any seersucker at all here.

      Thanks, William, I have been meaning to make a visit to Chicago for a long time so this is very interesting to me. Certainly, the city does have an interesting blend of two rather extreme climates and I'd imagine that Chicagoans have to own a wide variety of clothes for that purpose! It's fascinating to hear about the blend of styles that the city has adopted, taking influence from different parts of the world. Would you say Chicago is overall a stylish city?

    • @Gent.Z
      @Gent.Z  9 місяців тому +7

      Well, in this video I am talking about the best-dressed people of that particular region. I would agree that most people in the south do not follow the southern gentleman aesthetic, but those that do look wonderful!

    • @devindemond1972
      @devindemond1972 8 місяців тому +4

      I completely agree with both of you! Overall, I would say that most southern men would be criticized by their fellow southern men for showing any interest in style or fashion. It would be considered the antithesis of “masculinity”. That being said, there are a few whom maintain that nostalgic notion of the “southern gentleman” with the utmost sophistication and elegance. It’s truly unfortunate that elegance is slowly becoming passé… Perhaps your channel can preserve elegance and nonchalance to some degree. Great video by the way!!🙏🏽✨

      Thank you, Devin! Walter is correct about the majority of Southern men, unfortunately. But yes, the ambition of this channel is to promote elegance and gentlemanly ways of dressing. So I like to speak about the best examples of style, however rare they may be!@@devindemond1972

      There are parts of the South where men do dress nicely. Places like Charleston, Athens, parts of New Orleans, Atlanta, Nashville, Raleigh.
