Some men feel threatened when I dress sharp because they don't even own any nice clothes. They act like I am trying to be prideful or act superior. They resent it.

In most cases, when ordering drinks, wait till everyone has their drink before taking the first sip. If it is alcohol, then toast first.

Personally I do dress shirts and slacks, but I wear formal western boots and a beaver fur western hat with a pheasant or turkey feather in it for a more approachable flair. It works wonders.

agree with the take on kids. love them, but the last thing i want is your undisciplined kid screeching the entire time. and the amount of jeans and hoodies i've seen at top corporate steakhouses is shocking. casual culture today has ruined many things.

I take issue with #3. Americans are suffering from tip fatigue, especially when presented with an electronic tablet that has pre set tip amounts. I got to thinking about tipping while dining out. If I ordered a hamburger that cost $20 and tipped 20% for the service vs. ordering a filet that cost $60 and tipping the same percentage, yet the service level was the same, why should I tip a set percentage of the bill. If US restaurants would pay staff a living wage as in the EU, then this would not be an issue. Until then, I will tip what I feel appropriate, regardless of the total amount on the bill.

One fear is that I'd rack up such a tab that I'd hallucinate someone else paying it and taking me home, but wake up in jail for trying to skip out. I've never had a hangover or been past buzzed, so idk my limit(s).

    1. Women are vulnerable to unwanted contact in crowded places, especially if they can't guard their backs. I've had men press their fronts against my back or their fronts against my front in the subway or otherwise engage in "stealth" groping, like an arm pressed into my breast . A seat on the train at least provides some cover. 2. Standards of dress often put women in cruel shoes---with high, unstable heels and/or unsupportive foot beds. Think about teetering about in those kinds of footwear. 3. The "they asked for it" comments have a strong undercurrent of resentment against women.

Bravo! Proper etiquette makes life more pleasant wherever you are. There are, of course, cultural differences between countries and regions, but for the most part I agree with your comments. With regard to tipping, I must confess I do find the automatic inclusion of a certain percentage automatically added to your bill offensive. I always leave a tip, but I enjoy the freedom to tip an amount appropriate for the quality of the service I received. I would never leave a 25% tip which I find excessive unless I am dining alone. 20% is my usual tip unless the service was poor. In that situation I would likely leave 15% or maybe only 10% if the service was really deplorable. Of course, if I am some place such as Paris where service is included in the price, I would do as is customary in France by leaving only a small amount. I am annoyed by the noise of small children in nicer restaurants, but it can usually be avoided by dining at a later hour. In the USA we are more casual than.in Europe except in the finer restaurants, but I always try to look respectable and dress appropiately for the particular restaurant. Climate can affect how people should dress too. The most disgusting behavior I have ever witnessed occurred before smoking became prohibited in public places. I joined a colleague for a business luncheon. He lit a cigarette after the meal and after smoking extinguished it on his dirty plate before the table was cleared!

Even without profanity, I can't stand loud talkers. They override other diner's conversations and distract from the enjoyment of good food.

In general, yes, all is fine and I would also add that one should pay attention to the clothes they are wearing. If you go to anywhere halfway decent, there’s nothing wrong with wearing a nice shirt or a jacket, if you really want to look special. However, when it comes to the tip, I draw a line in the sand. I do not expect a waiter to fawn on me. I expect the bare minimum. Greet me nicely and treat me with respect throughout the meal, try to be efficient (so don’t make me wait long for my bill since, unlike the food from the kitchen, this something you can control when it comes to how long that process takes), and ask me how I’m doing every once in a while. Simple. I understand that waiting long for food often isn’t the fault of the waitstaff, so I won’t hold it against them. Follow the standard codes and I will give you the standard tip. However, if you aren’t respectful and you do forget about me, don’t be expecting that tip. I’m not obligated to pay it and I won’t unless you earn it.

    1. Rather than a note pad, I like to carry a sheet of paper folded into fourths. It's flat, small enough to fit into any pocket and can be torn along the creases if needed. 2. Being a former Marine, It is sacrilege to carry anything in your pockets. We used to find very creative ways to carry things.

I am unable to understand why should I tip? I always think in this way: 1) I have already paid for the service. 2) If I tip now, should I tip every time i receive any service for which i have already paid for? 3) It feels like forced compassion.

I absolutely disagree with the phone. Many people have positions where they are on call 24/7 or have elderly parents and need to be in contact instantly. My personal work position for local government required me to often make quick decisions at all times of the day or night. I also had a parent in skilled nursing care where I had to be contacted quickly. Many of us have life circumstances where we have short leashes. Cel phones make that lease a bit longer.

I'm a baby-boomer, so I'm at the opposed end of the 'age spectrum' from Gen Z. That being said, I enjoy your videos. I find being a gentleman is timeless, ageless. Gentlemanly behavior should be a life-long pursuit. I'm also glad your focus is relatable to American men. Some British videos tend to come across as either too British or too European and thus pretentious to Americans. Thanks for saying 'sneakers' instead of 'trainers' and keeping British idioms out of your lexicon.

I would agree, I live in LA and when I dress formally, I often stick out like a sore thumb in most parts, but the great thing about living in any big city, there will always be a group of people who share your taste and ambition. Los Angeles is a melting pot of different people and I would say most locals aren’t there for the dream of Hollywood fame.
