Many thanks to Son Mai (see below) for putting us onto this. I've researched this and come to a conclusion. It turns out that while UK & Euro cars had an external fuel filter from 2004MY on, NAS cars continued with the in-tank filter. This further clears up confusion I see on various forums when people ask about the fuel filter and get conflicting advice about it's location. I've got two screen shots of WIS for NAS and Euro cars showing the difference. Unfortunately I cannot attach them here, so if you go to 'community posts' I'll put them there for all to see. Bearing in mind my stripdown of a 100,000 mile fuel filter, I would suggest (at this time) that anyone with a NAS 9-3 considers changing the in-tank filter before the car reaches 100,000 miles. Alternatively drop the tank, remove the filter and fit an in-line filter near the tank that can be changed easily (use the same filter in this video). Apparently there is a YT video of dropping the tank and changing the in-tank filter, but I cannot find it atm. I'll post a link when I do.
Thank you very much for your videos. My brother and I hired a lift in a diy garage yesterday and we were able to change brake pads (and discs) and the fuel filter on my 08 estate thanks to your great explainers!
I just finished, all good and running. Time for servis notification was able to reset(that option is available after changing oil) so I reset it. Great video. Thank You
Great video as always! Easy to follow and always on the spot! Thanks a lot. About changing the fuel filter: I think the most difficult part is to detach the lines from the filter. If no proper pliers can be used it might be difficult as the clamps can be damaged. I found an easy way to create a tool: just use a 4mm or so steel wire and bend it. Worked well! It is also quite important to release the fuel pressure before removing the lines. I did this before I woke the car up after winter...
Thank you very much. My filter did not come with the spare internal clip for the rearward facing part of the filter. Now I now I must get my hands on one before i try to change the filter again!
Thank you for this great video. I noticed my 93 Aero has the external filter but there wasn't too much information out there on changing it, so this is very helpful. Now to change my filter as I doubt its been done for years.

NO, US cars had their filter in the pump unit in the tank. You could retrofit one if you wish though
Is the filter on the same location as a V6 2.8L Aero
Provided it is NOT a USA or Canada car, then YES all petrols are the same

As per the video unless it's a NAS as discussed in the pinned comment

Hello, any chance I can buy you a coffee online?
Is this us or abroad
Us? Who are us? Or do you mean US? As in USA?
Wonder if you’ve ever looked at it like this… Almost 1000 views…. If an average of 50% of those who viewed went on to change their own fuel filter instead of paying a mechanic an average of £50, a fair guess would be £25,000 saved?
