I wonder what the fascination with forts is? When I was young, watching Saturday morning cartoons, I’d build a sheet fort in the living room and stay there all day (or until wrestling/sports came on). When I was in my 30s and my friends and I were into paintball...had to build forts in the woods to hide in.
Now that I’m an adult I consider the barn my fort and it’s for drinking beer and hurting myself in (usually in that order).
For a game about little kids playing in their yards, it has a lot of complexity!
Plenty going on here, but once you understand how a turn works, the symbols really do the rest of the work, which is nice! Especially since they included that handy reference sheet.
I don't know how Rodney does it but his explanations are always on point. I try so hard to explain games to other players, but it's awful. The last few months, I search to see if Rodney made a video for my friends to watch. Rodney, you're a life saver!

Excellent video as always! Pre ordered the game and now that we are finally getting around to playing it from our collection, I watched the video again to see how to play. One thing that might be helpful is to recap the five phases to your turn at the very end of the video. Otherwise, the video is fabulous!

The rules explanation is, as always, wonderfully clear. I was wondering if Rodney could compare it to Glory to Rome and Eminent Domain--does it have a strongly different "feel"?
Thanks Nate! I avoid trying to assess those sorts of things for other players, as each gamer is going to have their own assessments and tastes, so I try to avoid guessing at them.
As always, the most informative and energetic rules video on UA-cam. I feel like the card symbology could have been slightly clearer that when taking any resource twice, that they need to be the same, because by just reading the reference sheet, it doesn't suggest so.

Yeah, maybe the icon should be the “take stuff” icon with a x2 next to it; that would be more clear you have to do the same thing twice.

I own SPQF, read the rules, but haven't played it yet....I did not make the connection at all until seeing this video, but I did think this game looked really neat, so...time to break it out?
Fort is one of the card games I'd love to possess. I've also heard of Root which this game here remind me of for obvious reasons.
Very different games, but they share the same great artist, to be sure!
Congrats on your excellent video once again! One question,when one plays a card that allows them to build a fort, does the person who folllows have to use the exact same resources that the first player used or can they use the resources of their choice? Keep up the good work!
You can use any resources. You are following the action, not the way it is resolved. The reason you have to mimic the resources when following the action to get resources (for example) is because getting those specific resources "is" the action. Hope that helps!

Hi Rodney, I didn't download the rulebook to confirm, but I'm under the impression the example at the 12:30 mark is wrong, I believe you'd get 9 VP instead of 3 (3 discarded pizzas X 3 skateboard suits)
As always great video. Keep up the great work.
The translation for that effect would be "Discard 1 pizza and get a victory point" per skateboard symbol. So because I have 3 skateboards, I can do this 3 times, to get 3 points.

@14:41 what does it mean to delcare the ? on Ghost as the Coin suit? Since it is any suit does that mean, with those combination of cards, the player receives 4 of a resource since Crown and Book (and every other suit for that matter) is a subset of any suit?
Hey Antonio, if you declare coin as the suit for Ghost, than only COINS will count.

Great video, thank you. We only played this once, and my son nearly ran out of cards because multiple people were recruiting his yard. I assume if you have less than five cards to draw even after reshuffling, that you just play with less cards? And hope to recruit more through actions? It never actually happened, as the next turn he started to get more… But it did get close! :-) thoughts?

My copy arrived over the weekend! Hey Rodney, for the Game Trayz you used, were all the resources able to fit in 1 double tray or should I grab 2 single Trayz? Thanks in advance!
I think I put them all in that double container... but now that you're asking I'm not 100% sure...
so when you follow an action and must discard a card of the same suit.. does this mean on top of that you play an additional card to use the suit? or is the discarded card used to resolve the suit. for example if the action is 1 pizza per skateboard, I would first need to discard a skateboard and then play a skateboard card? or is the discarded card considered to be the played card?

Question: for example, the Sarge card has both public and private action with a multiplier for the shovel sign. This means that if I do the first action and play 2 added cards with a shovel symbols, when I play the next action, are those 2 added shovel cards still valid?
In this specific case can I first take 3 games and then put three cards in my lookout?
Hey there, yes, it applies to both.
Watch It Played So for the Munch card at 12:20 having paid three pizzas for three points you could then get back those three pizzas straight away without extra cost using the same two supporting cards for the public action?

Yes, as long as you fully resolve the other action on your card.

Nice explanation. I need some clarity on the draw card phase. If you have 4 cards in the deck to pick up from, should you pick up the 4 and then shuffle the discard pile to pick up 1 more to make up the 5 cards in hand? Or do you first count the number of cards in deck and if it does not add up to 5 you simply add the discard pile to it and shuffle all together to pick 5?

Question the card that has victory points × the backpack on the bottom on the card are you aloud to count what's in the backpack more than once if you have more suits 2 matching suits with that card
Hey Kristen, I'm having trouble understanding the question the way it is worded, and it might help to include the name of the card.

@@kristencameron747 You wouldn't be able to boost a card like that, because the multiplier isn't for a suit. For example, when you play "Pizza X Skateboards", then you can play several skateboard suits to boost it. But if it's "Victory Points X Backback", there are no cards you can play to boost it. You mentioned that if you follow the leader, you have to follow exactly. For example, the leader has option of picking pizza or toys and they chose toys - the follower must also choose toys. Is this the same if they don't complete the action fully? For example, they have the option of taking two resources but they only take one pizza. Does the follower then only take one pizza? Or do they have the option to take two still?
You follow with 1 (and only 1) card matching the leaders suit (or a coin). You then take as many resources as your single card grants you. Hope that helps.

Great looking game! I love the idea, the mechanics are great, the theme is really, er, neat! (Sorry). Don’t think my wife would think much about it. She likes heavier strategy, and this looks a little lighter than our usual. Great job as usual, you definitely have a lot of talent.

You can choose any one of the suits, including the coin suit.

What if the leader uses a public action partially? Do I have to copy the partially used action? For example if I play my wild best friend, trash a card but only take one pizza, do the other players who wish to copy the action also only take one pizza? Or can they take two?
Good question - did some digging and found this from the Official FAQ: Followers must take the same type of resource as the leader. If the leader does not make a choice, each follower may make the choice for him-/herself. The Leader cannot make the choice if he/she does not gather anything.

You have to stick with just 1 resource type in this situation.

The play at 7:30 seems to be valid for me, because at least ONE of the suits on the added card is used.
From the rulebook:
"You cannot add a card if none of its suits serve a purpose."
Although, You can argue that then one of the OTHER added cards has no use. This is something to clearify.
Hey László. The video has it right. When you play a fixed double suit (like those two skateboards on one card), you must be using both of the symbols, or you can't play it. The exception is the double suit that shows a wild (like that wild and crown). In that case, you have the flexibility of choosing to just use the wild, so that it can be anything you like. Hope that helps!
With Puddin in use can I Choose to use either one of the symbols OR even use both as them? I always saw the Card as choosing One of the suits…

at 12:35 you sacrifice 3 pizzas - -you said you get 3 points.. but aren't those to be multiplied by number of "skateboards " for final VP count ?
What this effect is saying is that you can spend a pizza to gain 1 point, as many times as you have skateboards. So, if I only had 1 skateboard, I could only spend 1 of my 3 pizzas to gain a point. You'll see this concept detailed a bit earlier in the video as well. Hope that helps!
It never sais anything about passing the 1st player card in the rules. So the first player stays the first player for the entire game?
Right, it doesn't move, so this way, you know who started the game, so you can ensure at the game doesn't end, until everyone has had an even number of turns.
I'm a bit unclear - if you can take both actions on a card , and resolve each action then start the second action - cards like Munch, seem to generate their own resource AND then victory points off the back of that? ( like at 12.01 ua-cam.com/video/_OdrIpLEFLQ/v-deo.html )
Hey Cas, I think you might have had a typo in your comment. You said "if you can take both actions on a card, and resolve each action then start the second action"... but if you've resolved each action, then there isn't a "second" action to take, you've already taken it. Know what I mean?
Either way, you have it right with Munch, he can take his top action first action and generate pizzas, and then use his bottom action to spend those pizzas to get points. Pretty great! Was something unclear there, or was it more a comment on how good the card is?

@@WatchItPlayed Mathematically first resolve the equation inside parentheses, then do the multiplication. The way you have it here with Munch and two more skateboard symbols, 1 pizza should generate 3 points. (pizza > point) X #ofskateboards i.e. (1)X3 = 3. No?

I do my best to answer all rules questions on the games I cover, but I avoid individual card effects, as that's a level of detail beyond what I can manage across all the videos I do. I'd suggest checking the rules forum for the game on BoardGameGeek or the publishers website. I hope you can find your answer there - have fun playing!
