    I have a 318i and I love it, although it doesn’t have speed, it handles like a dream and looks great. All you gotta do to make it look aggressive is throw an m3 bumper on and some wheels that fit your liking ... such an awesome car. But just a fair warning, once you own a bmw you can’t go back

      Hererra Wray I also have a 318i, it's a 94, and am currently in process of getting clutch replaced but I am totally in love with it. I want to do anything I can to keep it on the road, has 150,000 on it, but I was wondering if you had any suggestions on how to keep it on the road I'd like to know. Thank you.

      @@e36kevin I have an e46 now. The 318! Overheated a few years back and ending up selling it after repairing the head. It was my fault I didn't replace the cooling system in a timely manner. It would've lasted forever if I was a little more proactive than I was back then. The e46 has been the most reliable car I've owned however. I did a full maintenance and it's been solid. I'd only recommend the E46 over the 318 because there are more informative videos out there to help with maintenance

    My son and I picked up a 318i in about 1997 when he was a senior in high school. It was virtually given to him for about $2,500. No dents, good paint and well maintained. We had if for a couple of years and was my first BMW. I was more the ex "Muscle Car" driver (couple of Road Runners, Mustangs, Olds 442, etc.). I fell in love with the Beemers and am going to pick one up when I retire. You can pickup a nice BMW 5-6 years old that will go for $60K new and $22K with about 100,000 miles. You feel like you are part of the car. Germans know how to do it right, I must admit. I'm a novice, but am reading and learning. I still have 4 years to retirement...

    I bought a 95 318i automatic, fun to drive, had abs sensors replaced, oil filter housing gasket replaced- leaked oil badly- had codes pulled, and left rear wheel bearing replaced. Having a friend who does professional body work to fix the rocker panel rust l. I miss driving it already.

      @@autocarnerd That's kinda the reason I won't get an e36. It's just perfect for drifting, but I want to drift something not as common on the track, like an IS200 or a CLK c208. ...because the e36 is directly associated with drifting. I'm probably going to head for a is200. The prices are getting lower, they are very reliable and they are in good condition, unlike the e36 which get riced, worn out, rusted and overrated by the people here in Bulgaria. Nice video tho, it was definitely the first car that came to mind when I got interested in buying a drift car. But I'm just 16, so all I can do is sit and talk.

    I bought my '97/98 318i Cabrio back in October, it's literally been amazing, quick enough, very fun to drive, easy to drive too.... nothing has gone wrong on it yet in 6 months of ownership.
    The only money that went into it has been fuel and cleaning products 😂, now I'll change the oil and the filters and thats about it, basic maintenance.
    Also for a gasoline car it really gets good mileage, a full tank lasts ages if you behave 😅.
    Whoever wants this as their first car I really recommend it, you get it as your first car and you'll never want to get rid of it 👌🏼and if you ever do you'll still stay in the E36 family, most likely just get a bigger engine.

    for the people that dont know.. 316i 318i 318is are the 4 cylinder models.. i stands for injection and "is" injection sport.. anything from 320i and above is inline 6 cylinder. and VANOS stands for variable valve timing.

    The 318is is the best value E36 coupe for the money, the 316i 8v coupe is just too slow, so if you can't find a Vanos II 325i or 328i coupe in your budget or you want better fuel economy it's a good option. I still have mine from 20 years ago, it does 0-29mph in just half a second more than my E46 328ci coupe so in regular traffic it is just fine and plenty fast enough for speed camera infected UK!!

    Everything about this video was perfection. e36 is the not only the most fun car I have ever had the pleasure of driving on snow thanks to some kind friend but one of the most enjoyable cars to sit in as well. Man this guy can drive. Seriously the best proper review of my favorite car.
    I have a question. Can anybody tell if there is enough rear leg room for average adult in e36 coupe 2 door version? If there is enough leg room in e36 coupe then I´d even sacrifice the practicality for having over 80 kg less weight to lift off oversteer to due to the lack of doors if only adults could fit in the back bench.

    I sold the last of my e30's just before they got really valuable.. I kept a few nice parts for the 'next one' but they're too expensive for what they are. Most are owned by trendy retro wankers and those parts are now worth more than I ever paid for a whole e30!
    I've almost left it too late for the e36 now but will be buying a 318i touring soon. It's a late model with the climate control, reverse sensors, two tone leather and stuff. It needs work, a lot of work but will be a good investment.
    Thanks for the cool video!

      But the Ti as well as the coupe/cabrio E36 would have a slightly better handling than a sedan E36 , correct ?

      One of the most reliable and economical engines you can get. Not a lot that can go wrong, mostly no issues with overheating as in 6cyl versions. As always, watch out for the old and cracked intake rubber boot and vacuum lines - as rubber gets old, it cracks and starts sucking additional air.

      the ti or compact models do have the older rear axle from the e30.. so they are not fitted with the newest tech available at the building time.. and unlike one may think, it is heavier when stripped down than a limousine.

    wat you recommand? e36 or a e46 318i between 99-03
    i have now a e36 318i 115hp and it runs like crap and can't find the problem (engine swap cause i broke it and since its never been 100% but only got worse but keeps driving..). so maybe buy a e46 but they have problems.. but i wont buy the same e36 318i, maybe a 323-325i or a e46 318i
    on the maintance side the e36 are okay, rhe e46 look more complicated...

      here in france.. e46 318i cost 3000-4000 euro the 118hp one.. with the bad diff who breaks the chassis...
      e36 are cheaper :) and i dont know. if i can even buy a 325i... fucking assurance will bankrub me...
      i think im gonna stick to a 318i e36 115hp :) (even if i love to have a IS with 140hp...)

    • @SomeNormalRomanian
      @SomeNormalRomanian 8 років тому

      Regilio Bouma why not go for a E36 320i? :D 150 HP, strong m50 engine, 6 cylinder, all good and fine about it. Honestly E36 looks way better than E46 anyways

    • @reggiexp69
      @reggiexp69 8 років тому

      i love e36 :)
      no thing is a 320i e36 use to much fuel for the power it gives...
      a 318is 140hp is about the same power (engine is lighter) and uses less fuell, but i dont like coupe..

    • @SomeNormalRomanian
      @SomeNormalRomanian 8 років тому

      Regilio Bouma Hm.. im getting my license exam on 23 :D and the first vehicle that i wanna own will be a 320i, i gave alot of thought to the 318is cuz i want a coupe one more than a sedan. But the 320i is way more superior because the engine is way more powerful and way more resistant :D but this is just my opinion :D indeed the fuel economy is pretty bad, but i think it compensates for the fact that's a tank engine also. i want a 2.0L engine cuz in Romania the anual tax that we have to pay for our engines is crazy if your engine is bigger than 2.0L if it's 2.0L it's 40 euro every year, if it's 2.3L for example it's freakin 200 euro, which is super expensive to pay every year.. :D if this tax wouldn't be this big i would of go for the 325i cuz it's basically the same engine but with lower consumption..
