All 4 Cylinder Versions based on the M10 dont have Vanos or timing belts, this includes all M40 (42/43/44) What he says only applies to the 6 Cylinders M50 Variants.
My father had one sedan. I remember how sound it with just a 1.8i liter. Noway, was a car over 200 km/h and looked awesome, despite it was a basic sedan in grey tint.
got a 1996 318ic from my uncle for free and I absolutely love it, it's my 2nd car after my mustang that I still have and the 318 is gonna be my daily driver
The 318is is the best value E36 coupe for the money, the 316i 8v coupe is just too slow, so if you can't find a Vanos II 325i or 328i coupe in your budget or you want better fuel economy it's a good option. I still have mine from 20 years ago, it does 0-29mph in just half a second more than my E46 328ci coupe so in regular traffic it is just fine and plenty fast enough for speed camera infected UK!!
I have a 316i with ASC, which is a weird setup. The engine is quite underpowered, but I get like 40mpg/6l per 100kms on the highway and it's very capable of going sideways on snow :D
Everything about this video was perfection. e36 is the not only the most fun car I have ever had the pleasure of driving on snow thanks to some kind friend but one of the most enjoyable cars to sit in as well. Man this guy can drive. Seriously the best proper review of my favorite car. I have a question. Can anybody tell if there is enough rear leg room for average adult in e36 coupe 2 door version? If there is enough leg room in e36 coupe then I´d even sacrifice the practicality for having over 80 kg less weight to lift off oversteer to due to the lack of doors if only adults could fit in the back bench.
I sold the last of my e30's just before they got really valuable.. I kept a few nice parts for the 'next one' but they're too expensive for what they are. Most are owned by trendy retro wankers and those parts are now worth more than I ever paid for a whole e30! I've almost left it too late for the e36 now but will be buying a 318i touring soon. It's a late model with the climate control, reverse sensors, two tone leather and stuff. It needs work, a lot of work but will be a good investment. Thanks for the cool video!

you also forgot to mention that there are 3 engine types for the 318. the m42 and m44 that are DOCH and the m43 that is SOCH dont get the M43 it sucks, the m42 (318is) is actually really good
We have a e36 318 1992 bmw with 400k+ kilometres on it. You think it could stand some fun and not fall apart? Im a new driver and im kind of scared of its safety
Is the 93 318 is still good,i saw one for 1500€ very cheap ,reason for that is 320.000 km but the guy says it's still good but idk cause you said over 93.
Dude, I need your advice. I'm about to get my first car and I want a BMW since I was 6. I live in Romania and my budget kinda sucks (2500-3000 euro). What would you choose between a 325i e36 and a 320Ci e46?
hello i have the e36 318is and even on the rain it's to gripy on the rear, can i have the dimension of your rear tires ? Nice review i have the same feeling from the chassis and i agry with you on this review ( sorry for the english )
I tried a 318Ti as well as a slow 1987 E30 325e and i liked more the E36 ti handling , it just feels heavier . But most of people prefer the raw driving feel of E30 vs E36 or E46 . But the Ti as well as the coupe/cabrio E36 would have a slightly better handling than a sedan E36 , correct ?
Man do you have any tips for drifting with this engine? Like something i have to be aware of other than ruining my tires and clutch? at the moment om wearing worn out winter tires, so grip won't be the problem. Soo.. Any tips and tricks? I'd be happy if you could answer as fast as possible!
@Autocarnerd I’m looking at 1996 318i with 178k miles and they are asking $3,500 USD. Is it worth it? It’s very clean. And a manual. I wish to make this my daily driver. Any advice?
any tips to let my 318i drift better? on the dirt its fine but on the road it wouldnt slide like i hoped it would. I dont have the smallest tyres and drove it with 2.8 bar on my rear tyres. Is it an idea to remove my extra tyre and put on more bar? or do i need more to change?
One of the most reliable and economical engines you can get. Not a lot that can go wrong, mostly no issues with overheating as in 6cyl versions. As always, watch out for the old and cracked intake rubber boot and vacuum lines - as rubber gets old, it cracks and starts sucking additional air.
i own a 95 318i, while it is a sedan its still an e36. It will not drift. i promise, im turboing it here eventually just for it. when it does slide it pushes the front tires. lol
the ti or compact models do have the older rear axle from the e30.. so they are not fitted with the newest tech available at the building time.. and unlike one may think, it is heavier when stripped down than a limousine. the 318ti has the same motor as the 318is
wat you recommand? e36 or a e46 318i between 99-03 i have now a e36 318i 115hp and it runs like crap and can't find the problem (engine swap cause i broke it and since its never been 100% but only got worse but keeps driving..). so maybe buy a e46 but they have problems.. but i wont buy the same e36 318i, maybe a 323-325i or a e46 318i on the maintance side the e36 are okay, rhe e46 look more complicated...
here in france.. e46 318i cost 3000-4000 euro the 118hp one.. with the bad diff who breaks the chassis... e36 are cheaper :) and i dont know. if i can even buy a 325i... fucking assurance will bankrub me... i think im gonna stick to a 318i e36 115hp :) (even if i love to have a IS with 140hp...)
Regilio Bouma why not go for a E36 320i? :D 150 HP, strong m50 engine, 6 cylinder, all good and fine about it. Honestly E36 looks way better than E46 anyways
i love e36 :) no thing is a 320i e36 use to much fuel for the power it gives... a 318is 140hp is about the same power (engine is lighter) and uses less fuell, but i dont like coupe..
Regilio Bouma Hm.. im getting my license exam on 23 :D and the first vehicle that i wanna own will be a 320i, i gave alot of thought to the 318is cuz i want a coupe one more than a sedan. But the 320i is way more superior because the engine is way more powerful and way more resistant :D but this is just my opinion :D indeed the fuel economy is pretty bad, but i think it compensates for the fact that's a tank engine also. i want a 2.0L engine cuz in Romania the anual tax that we have to pay for our engines is crazy if your engine is bigger than 2.0L if it's 2.0L it's 40 euro every year, if it's 2.3L for example it's freakin 200 euro, which is super expensive to pay every year.. :D if this tax wouldn't be this big i would of go for the 325i cuz it's basically the same engine but with lower consumption..

you also forgot to mention that there are 3 engine types for the 318. the m42 and m44 that are DOCH and the m43 that is SOCH dont get the M43 it sucks, the m42 (318is) is actually really good
Auxify DOHC SOHC
@Autocarnerd what do you chose a seat leon (2003) 1,6 16v Aka Vw golf 4 or a 318i/is.
We have a e36 318 1992 bmw with 400k+ kilometres on it. You think it could stand some fun and not fall apart? Im a new driver and im kind of scared of its safety
Should me and my dad buy a 1996 e36 318i no rust no dents and 1 owner for 4000$ aud the only downside is 400,000km
Awesome video! Kudos
wait a minute, I bought recently (another) E36 318i and itsM40 powered one, and it's from 1995...
Damn can't wait til I get my hands one one of these
i really like the 4 door or the bmw e36 m3 4 door alpina red color
I just love how everybody driving an E36 in their videos is low on fuel :D
Is the 93 318 is still good,i saw one for 1500€ very cheap ,reason for that is 320.000 km but the guy says it's still good but idk cause you said over 93.
you said it has around 150hp ... and its not even an IS .. is that true?
Should i get the 1993 e36 318 with 250k km on it? Is it going to be a good daily?
So i wont need a welded diff to drift with a 316/318 e36?
Dude, I need your advice. I'm about to get my first car and I want a BMW since I was 6. I live in Romania and my budget kinda sucks (2500-3000 euro). What would you choose between a 325i e36 and a 320Ci e46?
+Bogdan Costas Buy a 325 e36 It is one of the best cars you can buy for under 3000 euro. I have a pov video when i am diving my old 325.
+Bogdan Costas Go for a 328 , and put in it 325 intake collector = parox 230 bhp .
Thanks very good video, as I'm getting my licence this winter and looking a RWD car... :) Greetings from Finland !!
+DoomDriver32 Buy a e36 or a old volvo. Then drift the shit out of it. Be safe!!!
Autocarnerd Yes I will and thanks I will
Hi I was wondering are those the stock seats? They look like cloth and look nice! I prefer the cloth over leather.
yes it is original seats
Älskar att du är så jävla lugn när du kör!
haha man måste
hello i have the e36 318is and even on the rain it's to gripy on the rear, can i have the dimension of your rear tires ? Nice review i have the same feeling from the chassis and i agry with you on this review ( sorry for the english )
+MonkeyGameHD I have stock rear dimension on the tire. You really need to throw it in to make it drift. And a lot of power!!!.
Thx man.......
I got a 318ti, basically all the same minus the rear end which is from the e30
I tried a 318Ti as well as a slow 1987 E30 325e and i liked more the E36 ti handling , it just feels heavier . But most of people prefer the raw driving feel of E30 vs E36 or E46 .
But the Ti as well as the coupe/cabrio E36 would have a slightly better handling than a sedan E36 , correct ?
@@radu197666 the ti handles more or less the same just with older technology at the rear end
driven BMW.s for 16 years e30's and e36's and i don't drive them because they go sideways i drive them cause their damn good cars
Well then you are one of the few
Man do you have any tips for drifting with this engine? Like something i have to be aware of other than ruining my tires and clutch? at the moment om wearing worn out winter tires, so grip won't be the problem. Soo.. Any tips and tricks? I'd be happy if you could answer as fast as possible!
+Mikkel Eriksen power power and power. And do scandinavian flick. Drifting this car is the same as drifting any ather car.
@Autocarnerd I’m looking at 1996 318i with 178k miles and they are asking $3,500 USD. Is it worth it? It’s very clean. And a manual. I wish to make this my daily driver. Any advice?
yes yes and yes well lock that the car is been loved
any tips to let my 318i drift better? on the dirt its fine but on the road it wouldnt slide like i hoped it would. I dont have the smallest tyres and drove it with 2.8 bar on my rear tyres. Is it an idea to remove my extra tyre and put on more bar? or do i need more to change?
do you have your stock chip aswell?
I recently purchased a bmw e36 318i and I would like to know where is the dipstick oil on the engine Bay because i cant find it
I have the 318i from 95 the dipstick has a red handel and its in the back of the engine bay near the break fluid container
@@giantking2004ohhh thank you I will search again and hopefully I can find it
7 years ago, and they say fuel is cheap in America 😂 not today, tho I hadn’t considered what it is today in the uk
318i or 318is ? what is better for consumptions and pleasure
Is
subscribed , men in morocco we have expensive fuel , i don't know what to buy. the e36 316 318i or is , what can you direct for fuel economy
+Team Gtr TV It is not a dig different in fual economy. But i would buy the 318
Hi is there anything major that can go wrong with these 94 318i? Thinking of getting one.
Thx
One of the most reliable and economical engines you can get. Not a lot that can go wrong, mostly no issues with overheating as in 6cyl versions. As always, watch out for the old and cracked intake rubber boot and vacuum lines - as rubber gets old, it cracks and starts sucking additional air.
How is fuel consumption? compared with honda city and mitsubishi lancer glx?
I want to buy BMW 318i E36 M43 1999
it is 5.5 if you drive it on a motorway at 90 km/h and city it is like 6 to 7
Timing belt every 4000 miles? Really? Cmon you'd be expected to get at least 100,000kms (60,000 miles) from a timing belt in most other cars :P
Transportiv he was wrong it is around 100k kms
It's 40000km for the m40 engine
Will you recomend this car for a first car. + do you know about any known probrlems about this car?
Berserkers Nexus first listen then ask questions
Where are you located ?
i own a 95 318i, while it is a sedan its still an e36. It will not drift. i promise, im turboing it here eventually just for it. when it does slide it pushes the front tires. lol
Well you have to flick the car in. Be very aggressiv on turn in ant it will slide :D
are the 4 cylinder models that bad? or should i save and get a 6 cylinder
the 4 cylinder are great cars light in the front and very economical
also get 4door M3 with 3.2 vanos inline 6
318ti is just as fun/ nice?
the ti or compact models do have the older rear axle from the e30.. so they are not fitted with the newest tech available at the building time.. and unlike one may think, it is heavier when stripped down than a limousine.
the 318ti has the same motor as the 318is
just bought a shitbox 318i for 600euro and i love it
This is 113 or 115hp?
just made my decision I'm looking at buying a 1997 328i for $300 and decision has been fully made. it's happening asap.
good do it 300 is very low buy fuck it go fore it
Is it stock or you did modifications on it and what are the modifications?
stock
@@autocarnerd Okay, thanks for your reply!
@@Vukasin.M no worries. Thanks for watching the video, Hope you like it :D
wat you recommand? e36 or a e46 318i between 99-03
i have now a e36 318i 115hp and it runs like crap and can't find the problem (engine swap cause i broke it and since its never been 100% but only got worse but keeps driving..). so maybe buy a e46 but they have problems.. but i wont buy the same e36 318i, maybe a 323-325i or a e46 318i
on the maintance side the e36 are okay, rhe e46 look more complicated...
why not E46 320i ? if you can afford a E36 325i ?
here in france.. e46 318i cost 3000-4000 euro the 118hp one.. with the bad diff who breaks the chassis...
e36 are cheaper :) and i dont know. if i can even buy a 325i... fucking assurance will bankrub me...
i think im gonna stick to a 318i e36 115hp :) (even if i love to have a IS with 140hp...)
Regilio Bouma why not go for a E36 320i? :D 150 HP, strong m50 engine, 6 cylinder, all good and fine about it. Honestly E36 looks way better than E46 anyways
i love e36 :)
no thing is a 320i e36 use to much fuel for the power it gives...
a 318is 140hp is about the same power (engine is lighter) and uses less fuell, but i dont like coupe..
So 318i is same as 318ic in terms of drifting ?
ye
I like your voice. You sound like pure sarcasm. :)
selling my e34 for an e36 because horrible mileage :p
