- Now is probably the best time to pick up a used BMW E36. The asking prices are quite reasonable, and parts are still available. This series is actually relatively trouble- free, and the frame is strong. For under RM20k, it is possible to get a car like the one you see here. Most importantly, make sure the body is in good condition. All mechanical parts can be replaced.

Picked up a beautiful 318is two months ago, white with z3 wheels, runs and drives and handles better than most new cars! I’m Aussie and I love big cars with big power and I never thought I’d own a car that wasn’t Aussie or American but I am glad I made the change! Only issue is that I lost the key (only came with 1 key) and cost me $600 for a new one at bmw which is what I paid for the car! So far is all original besides the bigger and wider wheels and I had a custom 2.5 inch exhaust made for it and catalytic converter delete.. the guy I brought it off was crazy selling it so cheap, it’s immaculate inside and out. Best car I’ve ever owned!
Wow! If I ever come to OZ, I would like to see your car. I am also looking for a 318iS. That is a 2 Dr coupe with a 150 hp DOHC. Lovely car.
This is similar to my own E36 318i saloon. I only paid £250 for it on eBay and I haven't had to spend too much to get it roadworthy.
I have just bought a '99 version of this with just 89000 miles on the clock it is a great car ! I am impressed with yours !

electric powered seat but wind down windows. What a wacky combination of equipment. Glad to see that the headlining isn't falling down.
Seats are mechanical, but adjustable. Power windows for front only. This was 1995, which is 24 years ago.
@@YSKhongDriving meanwhile a 93 Accord has manual adjustable seats but four electirc windows.

Very nice car. And a very rare (for Malaysia) manual E36 with sunroof even. Always loved the E36. But I also like its direct rival, the W202 C Class. Those are going pretty cheap too, for now.
Yes, you are right. It would be great to restore one of those Mercs too. It is a matter of preference, really, and if there was a Merc that is available at a reasonable cost, I wouldn't mind picking it up too.

I believe the318i E36 from 1997 onwards came with auto AC with digital climate control and all around power windows
Could be. I don't know for sure, but you could be right. Mine only has the front windows powered and AC is manual control.

As cars get older, parts get more scarce. Try to get one with a good body - all other parts are obtainable, but main frame is not replaceable

Done by my old friend. Somewhere in Sg Besi. Don't know exact address, but Lucky Interiors in Mayang Jaya does a great job too.
Hi Uncle YS, My name is Mian, from Singapore 🇸🇬 i love this car. My Dad had the same model 320i auto 1994 with the racing Dynamic body kit and kept for few year and he let go because of the gearbox give way.
Don't you wish he had kept it? But then the COE is a big problem in Sg, right?
Yes COE is the biggest problem owning a car here and even old car must renew 5 or ten years it depends and after 10 years the road tax every year increase by 10% which is not worth to keep a old car unless it is in pristine condition.
I know what you mean. Well, you can always buy one here, and come up to play with it. Much cheaper that way.

how do u rate the handling of e36 compared to its direct rival from 90 era , audi a4 b5 ... coz honestly these 2 sedan besides e46 for me are the best sedan from 90's era
I think both are great. Note though the A4 is a FWD. Each was about the best in its own category. I took the E36 out yesterday and I was marvelling at how good it felt to drive it. Back then I also drove the Audi TT and it was amazing too.

To those that say `it needs electric this and that`, this can be a blessing when electronic features this old give way. The shift stick is the main seller of this beemer.

I like the E36 but without an inline 6 engine, it isn't as appealing
The 4 cyl is quite fun - not as fast, but quite fun to drive. Economical too.

Weird I have a 95 318i but mine looks longer than yours and my rims are different that's weird.

@@YSKhongDriving no it just looks so different I do have a after market side skirts but the rest is factory it's weird maybe it's because mine is in America maybe it depends on your country the options or something.
