Great video!! Sorry for long comment in advance.
A couple of things I would do if I built a building like this. First I would cut some square tubbing to make up the difference at the slope in front so that the weight of the roof is supported by that and not just screws (9 min mark). I would also use some type of sealer under the tubing to help keep water out. A lot of protection for some cheap tubes of sealant. For having the door flush with the concrete floor, you can cut the top and sides of the tubing and leave the bottom. That would give you continuous support keeping things lined up and connected. Another method could be to pour the floor of the building later and have it end up flush with the top of the tubing. You would have to have grade beams, footers or something like that though. You could also pour another 2" top coat on top as well. That would give you a thicker slab too. People do that when they install radiant floor heating, so it should work here as well. I am in the process of trying to get my metal building garage/house built. I am planning on using AMERICAN OUTBACK BUILDINGS, unless I find someone I think is better. They have 45 year warranty too for walls and roofing! Their metal components seem to be bigger and beefier than anyone else's but not as heavy as commercial steel buildings. Theirs is cold rolled steel. I'm trying to find a builder that will install it on a poured basement wall with a basement below. Maybe ICF walls by LITEFORM. I would also use their LITEFORM DECK as well for my floor slabs so I could have my man cave/bunker basement area hidden under my garage floor. Another thing I am planning on doing if I use spray foam is to have some type of house wrap on the sides. I saw that in a video that that would be a good idea just incase you need to replace a damaged panel. The spray foam would make that more difficult. Also using wainscotting would make the cost less since you don't have to replace a full section if 1 spot got damaged. I'm not affiliated with any of these companies, I'm just looking and passing on information.

They have 29 installation videos on UA-cam that I watched already. Here is the first one, just click watch all.

Carolina Carports in my experience has the worst customer service I’ve ever seen, they don’t answer phones, if you complain to their office they have nothing but excuses as to why they can’t return calls or delay the operations. They take off for whole weeks for holidays like 4th of July, Memorial Day off the entire week. We have Labor Day coming up and my prediction is they will be off the entire week. I paid them to fabricate and install my building back in May of this year 2022, I’m still waiting for them to come and install it they gave me dates of 22nd of August or 29th of August 2022, and they will provide me a week notice. I had to call them last week to see if they will be coming on the 22nd. Lisa Cook who is their Texas customer service rep, said she will contact me to let me know something. She didn’t I had to contact them and she said she is waiting on a call from their Emory Texas fabrication plant as to when they will be ready. Still waiting for the notification. I explained to them that it is very important to have advanced notice of one week. Carolina Crapports requires me to provide them a telescopic forklift. I have to schedule that one week in advanced to have it on site in the time they are planning to erect the building 40’x60’x16’ and I have to provide a week advance notice to my employer to take time off to be here for the construction project. Their whole operation so far is a sh!t show. I’m in the construction industry and have been for 40 plus years, I’ve owned a construction business, I am a master carpenter by trade, I’ve worked as a project superintendent and manager, I am currently a structural building inspector for a major city and have been for 19 years. I work with all the professionals in our industry from architects and engineers to builders and skilled craftsmen, I’ve noticed a huge decline in customer service over the past few years. It’s a damn shame.

Brad, Nice job on the review. I put up a straight 20x40 workshop metal building. Had the spray foam installed. After 24 hours you can paint the spray foam with a latex paint. (do double check with your installer for compatibility) I sprayed all my walls and ceiling with white satin. Does an excellent job of getting rid of the sickly yellow overcast the foam leaves and considerably brightens the building. Just a recomendation.

Those vertical beams holding up the internal headers, Id recommend putting one or 2 short horizontals between those 2 vertical beams and weld or bolt in there, will add more strength to them. Even do that on the front external verticals too.

Thank you for this video. I just purchased a 30 x 45" building from Eagle Carports. The designs are very similar. I went round and round with them about the concrete, I get conflicting info depending on who I talked to in the company. Some say you want the concrete exactly the same size, while others say you want your slab to be 2" larger on each side so that the bolts doesn't chip out the cement. My cement contractor suggested doing a sheeting notch for the sheeting to drop down lower than the square bottom rail. Anyway, some great information.

Agreed! Some of my anchor bolts are cracked on the outer edge. I guess it's just part of the game when you buy something high volume like this rather than a custom local build. Glad I built it though! Thanks for watching. Brad&Deb

@@PineyGroveHomestead It's interesting you mentioned the cracking cement at the bolts. I have watch a few videos and no one has mentioned that. I ended up buying the flush mount kit which essentially is a bunch of metal brackets so you can move the anchor bolts inward. The side effect though is if you dont do 2x4 studs the anchor bolts on the cement floor will protrude from the wall.

Can you give any details on the building planning, permitting, contracting, well drilling, electrical and other costs, etc.
The process and cost for the concrete pad for the building.
I'm preparing to move to a property I bought just before Michael flattened everything. That, the virus, and medical treatment for cancer has delayed my plans.
Michael was very disheartening, but I know others lost a lot more than just trees. My heart goes out to them.
2 years into this pandemic and now I'm itching to get on with things and make the move before I get too old to enjoy the place. I'd like to clear an acre or so and put in a shop building similar to yours before I build a home.
Thank you for sharing your experiences in this endeavor.

Thanks for watching. This building is 2 years old and I fear that my costs are not relevant due to the extreme inflation, especially for metal which is up over 100%. I recommend contacting Chad Burke at Carolina Carports for a quote.
      - Contact your county building department about codes and permits. A lot depends on how you will use your building.
      - Concrete is now $6.50 a sq ft in the North Florida area. That was 2 months ago when I poured my pole barn.
      - Wells cost about $7000 if they hit water at 200' or less. It's about $20 a foot after that. We have a well video out.
      - Land Clearing is about $3000 an acre...depends on the size of the trees and any dirt movement needed.
      - 200A electrical service for a building this size is ~$11K. Electrical components, especially wire, have doubled in price.
      - Getting a meter installed depends on how far the power company has to run lines. Overhead is cheaper than burial.
We plan on making more progress on this building this spring. Stay tuned. Brad&Deb

    Shout out NW Florida.
I’m surprised you had to use someone in Jesup when there’s a Carolina Carport manufacturing place north of Bainbridge.
On the door, you’d asked for a framed opening and use a regular door not the 1975 mobile home door provided.
On the step, it’s usually a 1-1/2 step (siding profile height) because installing the siding vertically leaves the bottom open. The step solves this, and no mice or bugs get in.

Hello Brad, I just had an all steel building built and there has been some issues with my lean to’s. My garage was built very similar to your however I did not have any open bay headers needed. My question to you is how did they tie in the lean to’s so they are water tight between them? How did they flash them? It would be great for some pictures or even better yet a video.

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  Рік тому +1

You can see the leans are dropped down 2 feet. So there is vertical steel meeting horizontal steel of the lean roof. Where they intersect, there is an L shaped piece of white trim that tucks behind the vertical and extends over the horizontal. That keeps water from coming in at that area. They actually installed my L shaped trim on the front side of the vertical, and it leaked BAD. They had to come back and put it in the right place and it doesn't leak anymore. Here's another video on the Mega-shed that might show some other areas inside. ua-cam.com/video/uL5SFIs5lXE/v-deo.html

If your leans were the same height as the main building (roof line did not drop), could use still use internal headers to enable open bays?
If the leans were on the same roof line, the 45 degree braces would be high enough to allow full 8' OSB sheathing w/o trimming/notching around the braces. I do like the looks of the leans roof line dropping down like yours does though.
What does the building like yours cost (as built)?

    • @PineyGroveHomestead

I'm pretty sure you can use headers without a drop in the lean but no drop would change the appearance of the building. The lean is 9' because that's the height you need to clear a 8' tall roll up as the end needs a header for the door. Just the metal portion of the building is over $35K now in Aug 2022. Concrete is now $8 sq ft in our area. Thanks for watching.

@@johnnyclark3633 Hide that crap the best you can!! Once the city/town/county is involved you'll be stuck pulling permits and following local codes. In many places if there is a shop below they won't allow you to make a "living space" above it, you have to sneak it in later and either avoid the neighbors or have really great neighbors.

Thanks for sharing this video. But please don't get under the brush hog to sharpen the blade as you said while trusting the tractor hydraulics to hold. I'm hoping you have some type metal stands or something to place it on?

Not counting land cost what would a good per square foot cost for the foundation, siteprep, electrical plumbing and building.

I'm a installer I do pool screens man it's kind of the same thing when it comes to building the frames they probably didn't do it because of the inspector if you have to have an inspector out there they have to do it to the blueprint that they have or it will get filled maybe they could have came back and do it we done that before we'll come back to the homeowner and change the stuff after the inspector check everything out

We'll do an update video on this building in 2022. I want to get the interior spray foamed, the concrete treated, the floor enameled in places and do some landscaping. Check out our "million gallon" drainage system Part II to see how we mitigate water around this building. Thanks for watching and stay tuned. Brad&Deb

can this handle snow loads? Asking from New Hampshire

This is in Florida, we worry about wind and lift. You'd have to ask Chad Burke at American Buildings about snow load. Tell him Brad sent ya!

Why did you decide not to get a pole barn?

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  2 роки тому

We didn't want wood framing (rot and carpenter bees) for our main workshop.
We have a pole barn now too. There's more updates coming on it soon, but here is the pole barn build video: ua-cam.com/video/3ZBHDY4cBKk/v-deo.html

I'm under the mindset that if you are paying for it you should get what YOU want , not what THEY want. Too many other builders out there for you to have to settle.

Every area in the country is different for building pole barns (skills, availability, price, etc). A stick built pole barn enclosed like this shed was at least $10K more and would only be as good as the installer and rated max 130mph. A metal building with the "red" I-beams was $20K more and they wouldn't answer phone or give a solid install date. Carolina Carports was the cheapest, the highest wind load, no wood construction, and had the smallest margin for error for install as it's basically an erector set. Thanks Wade. Spray foam, seal floor, hang OSB, finish bathroom, epoxy some of the floor, build workbenches...the list seems endless, but we'll chip away at it and document our progress along the way!
