Lyrics:
Mi smo protiv ugnjetaca
i njihovih pomagaca
legionara i fasista
Aj karmela, aj karmela
Zelja nam je samo jedna
da fasista vise nema
mi nemamo avione
tenkove i kamione
aj karmela!
Nestaje nam municije
hladan vjetar poljem brije
aj karmela
Ne mogu nam bombe nista
ni oluja niti kisa
gdje se ova pjesma cuje
aj karmela, aj karmela
tamo srce pobjedjuje
Aj karmela, aj karmela!
Apparently written during the war against Franco in Spain. Many Yugoslavs fought voluntarily for the Republic. Their experience was precious for the resistance in Yugoslavia a few years later.
Death to fascism, fredoom to the people!
I believe the song was first written during the napoleonic wars and the spanish sang about driving out napoleon's armies. The republicans adopted it for their own cause during the civil war.
Smrt fašismu!

The oncle of my grandpa was a Partisan but then he got circled by Bulgarians and died in 1942. His name is stanimir veljkovic zele and He also got the 2nd highest medal called Order of the People's hero. If you google his name, then you will find a picture of him and you also find a statue about him. My grandpa also said, that he was one of the most intelligent people in his town. So there's a school called like him
My great grandpa was also partisan he got shot by chetniks but he kept fighting he was fighting until 1944 when he got injured
There should be statues for all the comrades who didn't live to see the end of the revolution. May he rest in peace, and may he rest easy, as his Motherland was liberated. But the work of revolutionaries is not done; capitalism and the vile forces of reaction now reign supreme in the former Socialist lands of the East. As a Ukrainen, it is our duty as slavs to honor our forefathers, and to charge valiantly in their image. May he rest in peace, but comrades, his fight is not over.
Your Grandpa's Uncle is a Great fighter and hero who fought for Yugoslavian Freedom and the right of Yugoslavian People. Greetings from korea
Your grandpa is a hero and I'm eternally grateful for his and all the partisans sacrifice in fighting the fascist hordes.
Your grandfathers and ancestors who fought against fascism are heroes! I offer my eternal gratitude to all men and women who gave up their lifes in fight against barbarism

I don’t know how fascist dogs even claim superiority. I don’t like the auth left but at least they attempt to fight for the greater good. Fascists want to exterminate anyone who doesn’t adhere to their contorted view of life. Being a fascist is the return to barbarism
@Oswald Mosley It's when say that some people are intently inferior without any evidence what so ever and that you can make a meritocratic society already based on birth.
@Oswald Mosley more like, when you hate people in general, what all of you have done even in your most pacifist form all you do is advocate for the worst possible things
@Oswald Mosley I doubt you actually do even that
@Oswald Mosley that is the definition of fascism. Everytime one of you is talking you're usually making cheap excuses for warmongering, hatred and fucking slavery at times and the other times you're just lying. Wether you love your mom or not isn't even relevant.

I love this song! its based of a song from the Spanish Civil war "¡Ay Carmela!" it was sung by the Spanish republican forces, mostly by the "Brigada Abraham Lincoln" also known as the XV International Brigade and by other members of the Spanish left .
it's even older then that, the original is el paso del ebro which is about the rout of Napoleon's armies by the spanish guerilleros, there's a lot of variations of this tune, even one made by the franquist dogs, but most were used by the republicans. And the one you talk about is viva la quince brigada, which is yes about the XVth brigade of the international brigades, the american brigade, altho I also read that it was about the brigada Connolly, so the irish brigade. But regardles, it's a great thune that celebrates all freedom fighters from all times :)

That is Darko Rundek's cover to Ay Carmela. Not actually a song that was sung in Yugoslavia the same way Ay Carmela was in Spanish civil war
Many people theorize that it was sung in Spanish rather than Serbia-Croatian. Many Yugoslavs fought in Spain during the civil war and additional Spanish fled to Yugoslavia in the years both before and during the occupation of Yugoslavia.
This one is awesome
There was a similar version I heard years ago but pro fascist. One of the differences is that the song calls Italy and Germany "our good friends" and the first lyric is "We are the army of the oppressors"
I guess it's a song from both sides?
The Fascist version was written as a mockery of this song, it didn’t have as much popularity during the war but gained popularity among critics of Tito and Chetniks.
