I am leaving teaching because of people like you Mr Thorne. What about "banking education". Sending videos to teachers just like filling a gap or filling information or skills from their time to watch videos that you posted "for them" seems downright wrong. I learned more through managing my time and through trials than through people like you who seem to throttle on people's drives and knowing what good for them. That's why the new generations don't want to succumb to this vocational profession and do something else and thinking about teachers as less savvy means that you're downright despotic. I took from Kevin and now I'm building my own business! How about that Mr Thorne a mere less-than-savvy user became able to leave teaching and build a business. Hopefully more teachers will follow this example.

I'm happy for you, and excited at the same time. I'm almost 80 (in three weeks) and I've spent half my life regretting taking charge of it. It wasn't that I was unhappy all that time - more like unfulfilled. Money and fame was never that important to me, but happiness was, and eventually I gave it my highest priority in life. Even now I spend hours learning about things I'll never do or see or experience, but knowing the process gives me joy. You are a very talented individual and the reason I recently subscribed to your channel. I hope to learn more from you in the future. For now I'll just continue to learn as much as I can until life runs out. It's people like you who can and will make the world a better place. Best wishes...
I resigned from my full time W2 job during the pandemic for a 6 mo. contract position. A comment by someone along the lines of "why continue to be miserable when you could be in a job you love for 6 months" gave me the kick I needed. Now my contract is being extended and I LOVE what I'm doing! Good luck Kevin, love your videos.
You are blessed with a loving wife who supports your decision to leave Corporate America in pursuit of your dreams. The opinion of others does not factor in the equation. Congratulations Kevin! I had that dream 9 years ago, and I did the same; after working 20 years for a utility power company I resigned and relocated my family from the Caribbean to the West coast of the mainland (it was a long way). The only difference was that I did not have an employment offer, family, or friends helping me. The only thing I had was the desire, confidence, wisdom, and the courage to pursue my dreams. I have no regrets for what I did, and if I had the opportunity to do this again, I would. I hope you have a successful future. Always thankful for what you are doing. Cheers!!
I'm 77. I'm still working in the profession that I love, one that I literally started at age 3 (teaching my dolls and stuffed toys), but your comment about thinking back at 80 gave me pause to think. Right now, I'm teaching at a university and the what if is to start my own school. Thanks for the boost in that direction.
I am so happy for you. I left my job 10 years ago to work with families of special needs. I found you and love what U do. Your post have helped me so much. Funny thing is, I still can’t figure out how to work my office 365 program. I’m always stuck somewhere. About 3 months ago I started watching UA-cam and came a crossed your channel. Today I put a test in a totally cool PowerPoint training for my staff. That’s because of you. I didn’t know u could do that or that PowerPoint had gotten so good. Hi Kevin, your videos are incredibly helpful in my online classes and I know that lots of teachers around the world are learning from your videos how to use all this software necessary for online learning. Thank you for that! Quitting stable job is always a very difficult decision but as you said, you have to risk to try something new. I did it myself and it took me on a beautiful journey and allowed me to live in many countries. That is what I wanted and I would never have achieved it if I hadn't quit my job. I wish you all the best!

Hey Kevin, I’ve only just discovered you, mainly due to the fact I needed some help with MSTeams and fast... finding you’re You Tube tutorials has helped so much, very clear and easy to follow, professional but relaxed, so thanks and good luck with your new adventures 👍🏻 keep up the good work ! 🙂
Kevin, your channel is my "go to" for learning and growing, first with Microsoft products, and now looking forward to all of the new content we can anticipate from you. Thank you for sharing your rationale and thought process for making this important life decision. You have inspired me.
Wow, not much commentary to add to the long list of admirers' and followers' glowing remarks, except you show yourself as a straight-up genuine guy, amply honest, and sure to succeed--as you've helped uncountable others to succeed, and i add myself to your list. Thank you!
Hi Kevin, Your decision of leaving a Microsoft job and enjoying your own life is the best decision according to me. I have also done the same in my life. I left my teaching business and continue in my spiritual life. As one of the spiritual person, I can say that you have done the right thing. Have faith in yourself and continue doing according to your heart and you will continue your life as a winner. For the last few days, I am watching your videos and it is fantastic. Thank you for your efforts.
And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. (1 Corinthians 2:1-5).
I really appreciate your effort to help, I'm a university professor in Mexico and your videos really help me on my classes. All the best on your new journey. :D
Hi Kevin, You made a wise decision in leaving a job that lacked the challenge that you need to experience. I'm71 years old and I have many regrets in not believing in my self. As a director of information technology I was courted by many companies. My generation was taught that loyalty to your employer was expected of the professional. Rewards were based on performance and most important longevity. It was a major strike against you to have worked in several different companies. Today the opposite is true in that if you don't progress by hopping between many companies you are viewed suspiciously. Jeff is totally correct in his advice. It's better to have tried and failed then not trying it out. I learned and now look forward and never backwards. Your experiences at Microsoft have made a more learned person which leads to becoming more valuable asset. Good luck.
First off, congratulations Kevin. I have been an HR Exec for many years and I will tell you that CEO's care about the financial stability of a company, not about culture. Now, we have a great opportunity to connect 1 - 1 with nature and independent businesses without the need of a corporation. Your videos have taught me so much. Thank you for sharing your experience. I am a subscribed fan.
I know I am a few months late on posting.. but I just recently needed help while taking online college courses and your videos are some of the best! In my 27+ years in the computer industry, I would say you are at the very top in my opinion with your ability to provide solutions and training. Your video was not only positive and emotional, but also convinced me 100% that you are making the right decision. The world needs you to show us how to be more productive and successful! I look forward to catching up on all your videos. Thank you!!
As someone who has recently changed job, I totally understand what you must be going through. My mentor once shared a story that said -You have to leave the good to make something great. Congratulations on taking this huge step Kevin. Your videos have always been helpful and I am sure you will be able to do better with the time that you plan to invest in it. Wish you all the very best!! p.s. - I can listen to you for hours, so there's no question of not liking the videos on your channel :-)
Kudos to you, Kevin. I am 81 years old, use UA-cam Videos a lot, especially since COVID, to learn new skills, and just discovered your channel. I am also a piano teacher, still teaching, expanding into composing, etc. I love what I am doing and am frustrated when people tell me to slow down. I see so many people who do not feel fulfilled. And I see, through the videos of yours that I have watched, that you love life. You are not just jumping in to a dream without knowing what you are doing so yes, taking the risk is the best thing you can do for yourself. And if it doesn't work out, which I feel certain will not happen, so you can always move on. Best of luck.
Good luck! Thanks for taking us along! I'm looking forward to your upcoming videos, please do a course on being a windows power user from beginner to master!
You did the right job, it is just pursuing what you love to, thank you for the videos that you make, it is helping lots of people that you can not imagine and I am one of them, thank you so much, God bless.
I'm rocking with this decision my dude! I appreciate the videos and hustle. I found your channel a week ago and I'll continue to utilize your videos to help me with things. I also just landed an interview with Microsoft. The process starts tomorrow! Thanks for the help!

“Without change something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens. The sleeper must awaken.” ― Frank Herbert, Dune Best of luck to you Kevin!
Dude, sounds like you thought about this massive decision clearly and not lightly. It sounds like you definitely made the right decision in the long run for what you truly are passionate about. Never Dare to Dream!
Good luck to you Kevin. A very well thought out and sensible argument. I’ve only recently found your channel and I think your videos are very good, practical and extremely useful. Keep it up!
Good luck. It is always gratifying leaving a successful career behind and start your own based on your experience and self success. Just make it happen !!
Thank you for making this programme. It is great that you are going to change your main focus - and makes sense if it something you love doing and pays the bills. The benefit for us is that we will have more material from you that is consise, practical and inspiring. We wish you all the best and look forward to your content. Just a thought - with that 'extra' time - why not give some of it as special time for your son and wife. That maybe the greatest benefit from this. David (UK)
Hi Kevin, I'm very happy for you. You are helping a lot and you are making the right move. I'm sure all of your subscribers agree with me. Well done and thanks for what you do! Cheers
Hi Kevin! I came across one of your videos while searching for a common "how-to" in MS. I think you made the right choice - after all, if you didn't do it, you would never have known. You also have something you can share with your son and it sounds like your wife supports you all the way. You covered all your bases, so all I can say is, "Congratulations and much success to you!" We're all glad you are here.
Love the Excel videos and the way you present them. I'm so much further along with understanding Excel because of your videos I personally want to take this time and thank you!!!
I discovered your channel during this pandemic as I wanted to learn more of MS functions. Hope you can do more tutorial videos as it really helped me a lot! All the best to your future endeavours!
Thats good move Kevin. l have found your presentation be very clear and easy to follow all the best on this your new journey. I am James from Birmingham England UK
I just recently found your UA-cam channel and began watching vids that particularly interested me. I have learned a lot, thank you. Your refreshing style of presenting is the best I have experienced. It's informative, streamlined, succinct and enjoyable. Congrats to you for becoming the captain of your own ship. You have what it takes to build a dream and "make it so."
That was a great breakdown of your reasoning! Good for you! I'm happy you're going for it. You are absolutely correct, what a great position to be in to make this move. Bravo!
Hello Kevin! :-) I found you when I was looking for tutorials on free video editors and I saw your Shotcut tutorial. One thing that makes you stand out from all the others is your gift of explaining complex things in an easy to understand way. You have a gift of communicating! Aside from having a pleasant voice, easy to understand pronunciation, cheerful disposition, great choice of words, you exude humility and sincerity that touches us. It's great you're making videos that are helpful to teachers, students and those new to many software products. Please make more tutorial videos on using software that we already have in our OS or browser and software that are open source, or free or affordable. Many of us who are starting can't yet afford to buy all the software products we need to organize data, make or edit presentations, photos, videos, data, etc. I so love how you shared your decision...You're full of skills, knowledge and talent and you have a great heart -- surely you'll soar to greater heights!
Me: sees title Also me: gets ready to hear “my hr department requires me to say I no longer work at Microsoft as a full time employee” me(yes again): is disappointed Kevin didn’t crack out that joke
I loved this video! I am in my early 50's and currently finishing up a science degree in sustainability and energy. I will be leaving my dialysis job of 25 years after I became a father and felt that I couldn't tell my son that an education was important If I hadn't finished my degree as well as going after a degree that really gave me passion for what I really wanted to do with my life. Congratulations and I wish you the very best in all that you do as long as it is this, leading with your heart! Enjoy!
You’re so brilliant, engaging, clear and kind. I’m truly enamored. Thanks for being such an incredible teacher. I wish I had your mind. But my brain is a totally different machine than yours. What I’m most impressed by is your ability to get back into the beginners mind, and clearly-step by step-explain in a way that is comprehensive to most of us. Question: have you ever been really bad at something? Are you as talented in other arenas as you are as a teacher, you tuber, and Microsoft employee? I look from the outside and am like: wow-he’s a perfect human. Tell me a flaw or two so I know you’re real ;). Also-congrats on your decision. It sounds totally clear and you’ll be winning no matter what. What a bright light you are in a world where the mythology of the computer geek is that they are incapable of speaking to “the people.” You, my friend, have dismantled that myth through and through. Wishing good things to you and looking forward to learning more.
I am sure Khan Academy reached out to him. I have discovered this channel today after searching for a screencasting solution. I found the video easy to follow and not like those crazy YTbe videos that give me headaches. I also read the comments and noticed the genuine praising from people. I have just installed OSB and will be following his step by step video. I am a teacher so I will know quickly if he is a good teacher. I am now subscribed.
Man, all I have to say is with that kind of mind set you can’t fail. I love your videos, so I’m sure whatever your going to do next is going to be as good or even better.
Congratulations, Kevin! You took the right decision. I just found your UA-cam chanel today when looking for information about how to use Teams. The funny things is that when I was watching your videos I said to myself: What a neat and clear video. This guy should have his own bussiness and Voila!
Something tells me that you are going to be just fine :) Ironically, I watched this video while waiting for the Keynote from Microsoft at the Inspire Convention (online this year). The resources and goals of Microsoft are massive - but I can see how you might feel like you are in less control of those. When you are part of something large, you are a smaller part. When you are responsible for everything of something smaller - then you are in complete control. Both of these have benefits. The key is that no decision is permanent (except jumping off a bridge or something horrible like that). You can always adjust and recalibrate your goals and activities. Plus, you are young - so now is the time to take the risks and build that life of no regrets! You seem to have an intelligent safety net (wife, savings) - so I applaud your decision to try something new and pursue your goals. Personally, I wish for you what I wish for all my students - a life of curiosity, exploration and life-long learning. I'm not sure if you are foreshadowing my own pathway (thank you for the inspiration!) My very small channel is far from enticing me to leave my job teaching, but you are definitely inspirational, personable, and the type of person I admire - good luck and congratulations!
He will be making more in UA-cam, and now he can review ANYTHING. Like Linux, etc. Imagine that. He is not crazy. If he is crazy or unreasonable, Microsoft would NEVER hire him, not even for a year. He was there for fourteen years. It's about time. There's Chinese saying about being the tail of an ox (working for big company) versus the head of the chicken. It's always better to own your own head. This is what he is doing. Stop judging his decision.
Well.. Kevin always could review anything, and he actually did.. there are some content around google products, zoom, etc.. non-MS stuff I still think he will be putting a lot of content on Microsoft products from my point of view, it was a personal decision and I admire him for that.. I wish all the best on your next journey Kevin
I am a MSFT employee, and I can review anything. We only need to disclose that we are Microsoft FTEs when reviewing or commenting on our products and services. I could have a channel to review AWS if I wanted to. His choice seems to be more about his own personal ambitions and needs than about the company. Some people prefer the security of a stable job, and some need the thrill of owing their own work destiny. Regardless, kudos to him. It is a brave decision no matter what.
Hi Kevin, I just stumbled on this video. I just wanted to reach out and tell you how admirable it is to see someone pursue bigger goals. I am a huge fan of your youtube channel because it has taught me so much. I am pursuing a Masters in Ed Tech and I can tell you how desperately the education field needs a platform that can encompass all aspects of the classroom. Because everyone was forced to go virtual, educators are using a quilt of different platforms to deliver their lessons. I think it would be neat to have something more complete. I wish you the best of luck.
Just subscribed. Your videos are very helpful. I left my job 27 years ago to found my own company, in the same field. It has allowed me to work how and when I want, not what someone else thinks. Hope this gives you more time with your family!
Thanks for the note Deepark! Let me know if there's any type of website or course that you'd find especially valuable and I'll look at doing something on it :)
You can make videos on two things 1. How to get into Microsoft in various countries procedure(because many out there would be willing to go there in starting for some stability) 2. Some ideas on freelancing and how to generate money for a student during his college.
Congratulations 🎉 love the advice about looking back in your life as if you were 80. I would totally do the same if I were in your position. Excited to follow along on your new journey!

Thank you and keep up the good work. In regard leaving Microsoft (I know it a bit late for MY opinion lol) I think you made a great move so Congratulations and only Best Wishes!

Me too!
Hey Kevin,
I really appreciate your effort and how truthful you've been to yourself. It is definitely encouraging
Kevin, your rationale makes absolute sense. Wish I had seen this 20 years earlier. Wishing you all the best in the journey ahead!
Thank you!
You’re young, it’s the right time to look for new horizons. You have the experience necessary to succeed. I wish you well
I thought you were leaving to start Kevin’s Cookie Company 😂. All the best. I love your videos and find them super helpful.
nice joke 😀
Lol right! More cookies! Always helpful!
Same 😂
😂
LOL
I love your instructional videos! You don’t waste time and explain things clearly. Thank you!
Hi Kevin,
Your decision of leaving a Microsoft job and enjoying your own life is the best decision according to me.
Thats really nice
Where are you ministering?
And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. (1 Corinthians 2:1-5).
@Mahuroli Do you mean to say that you are God then because you would know?
.
I really appreciate your effort to help, I'm a university professor in Mexico and your videos really help me on my classes. All the best on your new journey. :D
Hi Kevin,
You made a wise decision in leaving a job that lacked the challenge that you need to experience.
Since school is going virtual, I think you've made a great choice! We educators NEED YOU!
Kevin wish you good. Tough decision but sounds like you have a good plan. We will be out here rooting for you and your great work.
Congratulations on taking the "jump". Best Wishes to an exciting future.
Kevin, I believe in you, and know you will continue being successful. Enjoy this new avenue 👍
Congratulations! I can't say that I am surprised. You were meant for more.
Congrats!! I also started a new business in June and that is exactly how I felt. Blessings in your new journey!!
Congratulations and much success. I'm looking forward to seeing your amazing growth.
You have been a huge help to me! All the best in this next chapter of your life!
A best example of 'NEVER SETTLE' 🙂
All the best !!!
All the best: Never settle while in Seattle!
Good luck! Thanks for taking us along!
I'm looking forward to your upcoming videos, please do a course on being a windows power user from beginner to master!
Thanks for the note Clue! I've added this to my list. Stay tuned!
@@KevinStratvert much appreciated, i'm tuned!

Best of luck to you Kevin!
Lovely
Dude, sounds like you thought about this massive decision clearly and not lightly. It sounds like you definitely made the right decision in the long run for what you truly are passionate about.
Never Dare to Dream!
I know it took courage to leave Microsoft but I KNOW when you look back you’ll be glad you took this step👏👏👏
Good luck to you Kevin. A very well thought out and sensible argument. I’ve only recently found your channel and I think your videos are very good, practical and extremely useful. Keep it up!
Giiod Luck buddy! I'm so appreciative of what you've done to help me. I look forwards to watching your work in the future.
David (UK)
As a former MS FTE, I say go for it! Pursue your goals, build your business. Now is the time to do it.
New subscriber from Brazil, I like your videos a lot.
Awesome, thank you!
Oh he is amazing and love his content . He can never go wrong in my book
Beautifully articulated, Kevin. Wishing you all the best with your new venture - you deserve it :)
Hi Kevin,
I'm very happy for you. You are helping a lot and you are making the right move. I'm sure all of your subscribers agree with me. Well done and thanks for what you do!
Cheers
Well done - I was a MCP and taught myself Linux the day I resigned - I run a web hosting company from home now - open source is the new IT
Kevin, you are young and smart. Follow your dreams, make them come true! Congratulations and good luck!
Yes, "...at the end of the day you're an employee..."
I like that words.
Me: sees title
Also me: gets ready to hear “my hr department requires me to say I no longer work at Microsoft as a full time employee”
me(yes again): is disappointed Kevin didn’t crack out that joke
Congratulations, I made a similar move and love being more in control of my life 😉. Freeeeeeeeeedom!
Congratulation on the move. Thank you for sharing, and I look forward to learning more from your videos.
you are in the right move. if we dont try we wont know what will success looks like. great job i love your presentation and sharing. stay safe
Something tells me that you are going to be just fine :)
Ironically, I watched this video while waiting for the Keynote from Microsoft at the Inspire Convention (online this year).
Good luck, man! I'm sure you'll be even more successful on UA-cam!
Your sharing has inspired a lot. We also learnt a lot from your power bi . Just to let u know your departure is a beginning of new discovery in life.
Good choice keep up the spirit.... be positive.... success is all yours..
Well.. Kevin always could review anything, and he actually did.. there are some content around google products, zoom, etc.. non-MS stuff
I still think he will be putting a lot of content on Microsoft products
from my point of view, it was a personal decision and I admire him for that.. I wish all the best on your next journey Kevin
Tail of a Phoenix
I am a MSFT employee, and I can review anything. We only need to disclose that we are Microsoft FTEs when reviewing or commenting on our products and services. I could have a channel to review AWS if I wanted to. His choice seems to be more about his own personal ambitions and needs than about the company. Some people prefer the security of a stable job, and some need the thrill of owing their own work destiny.
Regardless, kudos to him. It is a brave decision no matter what.
Totally agreed what you had said. All the best to your full time you tube business. Looking forward more videos from you. All the best.
Your videos are helpful. Your move takes courage in facing the unknown. Good luck Kev. We'll continue to follow you.
good for you! Just found your channel recently and "subscribed" today .... Looking forward to future videos.
Kevin , I wanted to say congratulations , I just started watching you channel and you have great content. You will have a great furure .
Just subscribed. Your videos are very helpful. I left my job 27 years ago to found my own company, in the same field. It has allowed me to work how and when I want, not what someone else thinks. Hope this gives you more time with your family!
That's a good decision.
Make some websites or courses so that we can get some skill as per your experience..
Thanks for the note Deepark! Let me know if there's any type of website or course that you'd find especially valuable and I'll look at doing something on it :)
@@KevinStratvert Try doing coding course or ms office course.
I believe lots of people would be interested.
You can make videos on two things
1. How to get into Microsoft in various countries procedure(because many out there would be willing to go there in starting for some stability)
2. Some ideas on freelancing and how to generate money for a student during his college.

Hi Kevin..may i ask for your email?
MS is already free if u use the online version!
Hey Kevin, I’ve just discovered you, mainly due to the fact I needed some help with OneDrive, I'm so glad I did because you're a professional, brilliant, amazing and gifted at the same time, you're very clear and very easy to follow. Thank you and keep up the good work.
In regard leaving Microsoft (I know it a bit late for MY opinion lol) I think you made a great move so Congratulations and only Best Wishes!
Congrats Kevin.. I wish you all the support... You will be very successful!
That's really a good idea, no regrets, give me food for though, move forward!
I believe when it's time to start your new journey you'll know. Go for that full potential
Thank you for making this channel. I learned a lot in this channel and still continue learning. It is much easier to learn programs in your channel.
Oh sure, I find you and your leaving. It sounds like you've given this a lot of thought and have a good support system, so good luck. I'll continue to tune in.
