Thanks for watching and subscribing! You guys are the best!
I am an experienced cruiser and US Sailing instructor and I must say that indeed, you are the REAL DEAL. I really enjoy your videos. Great job. And you do all this with pretty minimal equipment and budget and boat. Impressive. Thanks.
I agree! ASA instructor here, and very impressed!
Thank you! I enjoy the closeness I feel to the elements and my boat due to the absence of lots of electronics
@@WindHippieSailing Nice! I understand, I cruised with a sextant, a lead line and Kerosine running lights. Have to admit though that I did buy one of the earliest GPS’s.
Definitely. I love the simplicity.
@@WindHippieSailingcan you survive in the ocean, by catching only fish ?
You and Sam Holmes sailing are the two best. You give my 50 year old dorky ass confidence as I learn to sail around the salish sea on my little 24 foot boat, it's such a pleasure to see optimistic adventurers succeeding and coping and just going for it
Too funny. My dorky 56 year old body just passed his first sailing exam and will be joining you north of the Salish Sea off of Campbell River if we're talking about the same Salish sea.
@@Wanderglobe Yep, same Salish Sea, I'm in Bellingham, my 1978 san juan 24 is at Squalicum harbor, fair winds neighbor! My best friend and I are going out for a few days this weekend around the islands
This Superwoman is also a secret mermaid! 😉
I have nothing but admiration for what you're doing and how you're doing it!
Two thoughts from your last episode:
1.) The shots of you silhouetted against the sunset are gorgeous--but my heart was in my mouth seeing you climb about, even in a calm, without your harness clipped in. At least, for near-calm conditions, think about towing a hundred feet (or more) of (preferably bright colored) floating line. If the worst should happen and you go overboard while slowly underway, at least you'd have a chance of swimming to and grabbing it.
2.) Self-steering: I couldn't see exactly how your bike chain runs--but you might be able to tie something like a shock cord or big rubber band (if you have either) between the two slack sides to keep it from skipping teeth until you have a chance to fix it properly.
Stay safe and happy!
don't worry be happy
Would you ever consider taking a 70 yr old hand in good health an strenght with miner expirance on to satisfy a life long dream? Last sailing was from Jamaica.
Wow! This young lady doing a solo blue water voyage. God bless and keep her please.
I was watching Parlay revival they mention a type voting for the younger cruisers award so I voted for you 👍🏻 thank you for your videos
Me too :-)
@@sausage5849 😂🤣😂
Thank you so much!!
@@WindHippieSailing thank you 😆
Such an amazing young lady, you never worry about anything! Something about you is very intriguing, maybe its because you are fearless, or maybe its because you have natural good looks, or maybe its both!
That whisker pole rig was genius. I sailed for 12 years solo and yes, you are there. I've been following your journey, and am quite impressed with the sailor you have become. Sending you calm seas and fair winds ~ Wolf
I am amazed at your calm demeanor. You never seem to be afraid.
She's so laid back it's insane.
This is what fascinates me and keeps me interested in your channel Holly. The way you come up with solutions that only a solo sailor would. Hmmm, candied almonds, delicious.
What a beautiful thing to say (and live 🙂)...
"The magic of being at sea by myself..." ♥️🎯
I swear you could survive a Zombie apocalypse. Sail on Captain Holly, sail on! ⛵😎
Holly you're amazing 🥰 and one hell of a sailor.
I really appreciate that you show things like the size of that swell - instead of just saying the swell is big. And that swordfish you taped , THAT was , wow. The ocean is terrifyingly vast.
Holly 30 minutes of sailing in the Pacific with you, even just your voice, cooking class, great edit. A warm liberating shower, just you and the sea air...
Pretty genius idea for the pole 😅
Thanks for showing me what is possible if one has the courage. I watch each time with a mixture of awe and envy of your spirit.
The reason you get few/no negative comments is because your message is affirmative, not blaming nor judging others. Such a straightforward telling of a story. A good one.
Just a great episode. Suspense, delight, challenges, solutions, humor, couple of LOLs. Sunset dance & music was magical
Thank you for describing that calm night. I can just imagine the skyline that night and it’s peacefulness.
I sailed the Bahamas for a month in a 65' Blackbeard love aboard as SCUBA Instructor. I lived on Saint Croix USVI for a year fishing and diving for lobster also teaching SCUBA, sailed the Puget Sound, San Juan Islands for 6 months. None of that holds a candle to your adventures.
I currently am living in a 20 foot dry land yacht (travel trailer) for the last two years and counting in PNW.
I salute you.
Congratulations you safe and sound in Fiji , you fixed your leaks . you made the old engine work And from the Cook Is to Fiji is no piece of cake .. Stock up on meal and treats to make long sails happy. Keep water tanks topped off .. Your a great sailor with you little boat .. I am so proud of you..
Magic of being a solo sailor is inventing the right way to do things in the moment without pressure from others.... although, tips are interesting too.
So thank
you!!!
I came to see the jury rig of the monitor as a similar response to any other incident in the trimming of sails... we do get to merge with our boat systems like appendages to a great degree.
I agree that boat systems begin to feel like appendages. It's fun to be able to troubleshoot and find a solution knowing that it was just my brain that cooked it up
Love those- " Pro Tips coming your way, every day." 🤣
A very enjoyable episode. In truth every episode is very enjoyable.
Your amazing Holly! I wished I could just jump off the edge of the world for a couple of years. God bless you!
one of your best blogs, loved the shot of you silhouetted by the sun, it must of felt as though you were the only person in the world.
i just wish i had the drive, guts and courage to take my boat on extended cruises, instead of just pottering around the harbour. i admire and respect your seamanship.
Wow…great editing and videography. Thanks for sharing
You are nothing less than entertaining and brave.
Thanks Holly, congratulations on the 100th episode.
Thank you so much for your documentation of your journey. I am not a sailor but I love learning so much from your channel. Currently I am at Ground Zero of hurricane Ian in Venice Florida without power for almost a week and another 6 to 7 days at least to go. Believe it or not watching your videos calms my nerves and reignites Industrious thinking for my own situation. Keep doing what you’re doing it truly is such an inspiration touching the lives from Places you wouldn’t even imagine.❤
my thoughts are with you Judy! Good Luck from an Ole FL girl!
Oh my gosh thank you so much for this comment. I can't imagine what you must be dealing with- all the footage I've seen from that area looks so intense. I'm thinking about you!
@@WindHippieSailing we were in the same "boat" as Judy during Hurricane Ian and did not have power for almost 4 days. Luckily, we supplemented our lack of power with a generator. I never realized certain foods did not have to be refrigerator and would love, in your seconds of down time, if you could come up with a list of what foods you eat and how you keep them from spoiling. I just found your vlog recently and have been binge watching so I'm not sure if I've seen all of the ways you have to keep your foods fresher. Stay safe and thank you for do documenting your sailor life!
@@Cookie-cy5my cabbage!
Wow! I could not believe; you could sail alone. You are awesome and brave enough to explore the world.
This is first time I saw your video and when I saw your face on the screen I said "What, she is so young and going solo"? I appreciate your courage. Kudos to you. Be safe. Happy sailing.
Thank you! :)
This is great footage. Looks like scary fun! You are a beautiful person. Live on Girl!
Holly, I think singlehanders, especially those who cross oceans, are just a rare breed who are hyper focused on doing things in the most efficient manner possible. Doesn't matter if it's a race or not: sleep is the premium, and efficiency is the cost.
Perfect timing while I had a smoke, you entered the Monitor section. Low and behold, mine was sitting in my cockpit and I was able to totally see exactly what you were talking about! My brain instantly tried to design a chain tensioner! Solo sailor style! ✨️
That was the most beautiful sunset I ever saw!
So glad you never turned the engine on, relaxing pace thankyou
Its always a pleasure to see a fellow newenglander sailing the world . Go for it , looking forward to your next clip
Angus
I love the simplicity of your channel and your sailing innovation. Be safe out there
Sailing solo long distance is learning to “dance” with the boat. It takes time to learn to dance and the “music” keeps changing every day. But after a long time, the music becomes more familiar and the dance steps become intuitive and life aboard becomes more predictable. You will likely find that after some number of years of this dance, you will tire of it and do something else. In the meantime, enjoy the dance!
This is so beautifully written. I completely agree with everything you just said. A boat is so much more than a fiberglass shell. It's a dance partner!
Amazing …. the fearless Holly !
I have been following you since your start. Your vids have gotten fantastic! You are amazing I love your calm, confidence approach of life. Can't wait to see more!
Wow!!!!! Episode 100!!! A hundred in, and they keep getting better every time!!
Thanks!
I’m sure you are swamped with messages and don’t have near enough time to read them all.
I just wanted to drop a line telling you that I watch your videos and that you are well on your way to inspiring me to launch a singlehanded circumnavigation, and I don’t even own a boat.
Stay safe 😊
Have you every taken a sailing lesson?
Me too! Because no one in my family is willing to come with me 😔!
@@DougVarble I have not.
Thanks so much!
You are without a doubt an above average cruiser. You think out of the box and I appreciate that. Keep enjoying. It takes a special person to really enjoy being alone.
What a nice video. Loved your shot of the tiny cloud formation ,and the background "xylophone". You seem very much at one with the elements and yourself. And Yes the stars etc, are a sight to see, out in open waters.
Hang in there!!! I want to see Fiji 🇫🇯!! ❤️
Kindred spirit. I don't want to be lonely, but I love being alone. Some people (and some sailors) seem to get a bit freaked out when they're completely alone for a few days. No better or worse way, it's good to know oneself.
Do they make large collapsible buckets? Seems like the ideal solution. They used to make them out of canvas because it swells and becomes watertight - like fire fighter hoses.
"Necessity is the mother of invention", as demonstrated by Holly.
A brilliant episode, so impressed with the way you handle the ups and downs of lone sailing, and life. Keep well
Awesome sailing, love what you are doing!
I can't imagine anyone leaving you a negative comment.
All you do is just breathtaking. Much love from.germany 😉
Holly...don't go east too quickly as we're having a horrible El nino on the east coast of Oz.. with cold and unpredictable weather ..enjoy Fiji for a while BULA!!
Wow a real sailor. I have seen this channel name before and presumed it was going to be a Stoner hippie channel. Turns out it's hardcore ocean sailing full of tips and hacks etc. Well done, fair winds.
I just discovered your channel. This is fascinating. At one point in my life when I was living on the coast I took a couple sailing lessons and loved it. I always dreamed of doing something like this but I ended up in the desert far from the ocean. It’s interesting to watch this.
Good on ya kid! You show people that one can actually live life..
Such great sailing videos from a confident solo sailor!
Great video. You have great problem solving skills.
You are awesome! I admire your adventure and optimism, you have inspired me!
Healthy reminders 🎉
Got a wee bit excited when the video started with u in a red bikini. So i watch it to the end. Good trick it worked. like always a great video.
Hi Holly I've missed you due to ill health you are a very lucky person to be sailing the seas and by the bye glad to see you wearing the harness Considering the change in weather patterns this year I wish you luck in trying to achieve a passage that was usually possible but also glad you have fresh water for a cuppa tea
That cockpit shade is awesome! And look how robust it is!
Admire you and your adventures.
I watch a couple dozen sailing channels.
Some are VERY polished but your channel is very much down to... SEA LEVEL!
Thak you Holly.
Sea level! Love it
congrats on 100 episodes!!!!!☝☝
New intro thingy is pretty cool.
You are a wonderful heart and soul love what you doing
I think you seriously need to publish the Holly Cruising Cook Book of snacks and tasty meals.
I've not watched for a long while . But I'm back to watching u adventures
"How you deal with all the negative comments" - of which there are none. How could anyone? It would be like kicking a puppy. Love you, Holly.
Hi, I am stunned. Crossing the Pacific Ocean on your own? You have a very calm and cool spirit and heading to Fiji! Wow! I really love your sailing instincts. 🌹🌹🌹🌹😘
Well done video.
What’s amazing is that you are sailing whole oceans alone and have 70 thousand subscribers, while some folks doing short cat videos have millions of subscribers.
Holly you are amazing!
This is one of my favorite episodes! ❤
Yay! Episode 100
You are truly amazing and a very capable sailor.
Take care out there on your own.
Love your videos.
I am so glad your boat is working well for you as the engine problems seemed to go on a very good while.
Yes the engine has been behaving much better lately
Impressive as all get out
Great video holly insprational sailor welldone fair winds calm seas cheers
Love you I’m just in all of you and iPhone you’re content great it’s never boring editing’s good it’s great
Well, you are a beautiful and amazing sailor person woman👌🌻
I like the sunset nude clip because nudity is an integral part of sailing in the tropics .Thanks for being real!
Creep.
I never thought about using a heavy weight rug as a sun shade for tarp I like how it keeps the fluttering down in the Wind my little waterproof sun shade whips around in the wind like crazy. I might have to try this out.
Beautiful sailing Holly🌸❣️
You are an Absolutely fantastic human being adding great value and dreams to our lives!
Thank you ! 😊
Thank you for sharing such wonderful content ,,,Just wanna say you are AMAZING .Peace
Just found You and watching the content. Fair winds and Following Seas
Wow! This is really cool, I sailed from Balboa to Catalina island a few times when I was a kid 🤣🤣
Great video.
Holly you are a force to be reckoned with. ❤
I love your positive spirit.
You are so brave and positive I love it! I've never seen u before but I enjoyed you very much, take care stay safe and good job!
I noticed that your Garmin in reach seems to have some genetic connection (or just solidarity) with your “monster” recipe book. Good to have other personalities on the boat. Great video as always. Thank you!
I didn't even think of that! They must be distant cousins 😜
You rock , so calm
Ha ha omg. You still rocking the sauce pan refit ❤
Oh yes haha. I'll use that pot until its final day
See you the next time👍🏽
as someone who gets really seasick on a big boat in calm waters.... kudos to you!
