A short video on how I made a particular style of draw knife. This is a very versatile tool that can be used to carve wood, debark logs, and much more.
I love that ultra cool kiln and sander. I have a lathe my wife never uses. I am about to use your design to make this draw knife to help my kids and I build a log shelter. Thank you for posting this.
could you explain the heat treating process a little more? I don't have access to a kiln. id just like to know the simplest way to heat treat something. Thanks for the great video.
It depends on your steel. If you use a simple carbon steel like 1084, you don't need a kiln. You could heat up the piece with a torch until it's non magnetic, heat up a bit more, and quench in canola oil.
Hey thanks for the reply. I clamped the blade in between 2 pieces of aluminum after heat treating, to ensure it stayed straight. If I bent the ends first, I wouldn't have been able to do that.
Cool

You're welcome. I hope your project turned out!
You do a good job. Thanks.

Why didn't you bend the ends before you heat treated it ?
looks great
