Hey Mike, here's another issue with my radio... I want to add one of our local repeaters, and it is showing the split. It has the CTC on the transmit, but it's still showing simplex when i transmit. Another example of it's not as easy as it seems. Also, I can not put a UHF frequency on A side, and it automatically does the split. I have to put VHF on A and UHF on B. In my 878, it is so easy to program. Why can't this radio be as easy
Your great vid provided the settings for hitting a repeater. What are the settings for simplex operation? Should CTC be turned off or set to zero as there is no tone needed?
HI Mike Great Video, followed all your steps everything worked except name changing the channel, however whilst programing it earlier with a PC cable i found that the storage of names can be either frequency or names, when I changed this setting it showed up with the name of the repeater. I don't know how to do this without t he PC software.
You can change the display from frequency to names via the menu. Press and hold FUNC button on the front of the radio, select item 1 - FUNC Menu. Scroll down to menu number 3, shown as DSP and in there you can select Name, Channel or frequency readout.
I'm so new to this & this might be a dumb question but are the channels the same no matter where u live? Or how do I find which is the right ones for transmission & receiving?
Hi Amanda, no question is dumb :) Depending on where you live, repeaters will change and a way to find your local repeater(s) would be to check out the RepeaterBook website, they also do an app for your mobile device. Search your area for 2 metre and 70 centimetre repeaters and you should find a few that will be heard. Now I must state and I presume you already know but, transmitting on this radio without a ham license on the amateur radio bands can land you in hot water. You could use it for PMR 446 (license free) but the problem with that is - the radio isn’t a legal standard PMR radio and pushes out far too much power for the PMR band. Just wouldn’t want anyone getting into any issues using these radios that’s all. Stay safe!

I used your video to program my radio a while back. You made it easy. Now I want to program more repeaters. I can do everything except entering the shift. When I press shift i get an error message at the bottom of the screen. I also display two frequencies like it in dual watch but only in vfo mode. Confused!

If you've input the RX frequency in correctly and the offset correctly then it should shift to the TX frequency. If not then I don't know I'm afraid, I've never encountered it.
Hello Mike1074. I just watched your programming video, nice job by the way, very helpful. I was wondering, could the user program the transmit frequency first, then the receive frequency, along with the PL's. I understood that when you program the +/- offset it should automatically set the correct transmit frequency, but sometimes the radio's firmware doesn't always do that, it's often a number or 2 off. Thanks
Hi Carl, I must admit I've never encountered any software that's not set the correct offset that I've entered myself. As for entering the transmit frequency first, I'm not sure that would work. But I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong :) I've only ever done it RX frequency first followed by the offset.
