Had one of these for a few days and have been getting quite frustrated! Back in the hobby after a long break and the radios have changed quite a bit. You saved the day with your instruction on how to program this radio....thanks! 73 de DL/G4SKN....now resident in DL land and soon to have a German callsign.

Just wanted to say thanks, recently one of our local repeaters changed tones and I had to re-program the radio. I didnt want to drag out the laptop so figured I would just manually program the new tone in, this really helped!

John Smith..... I had a look at the manual. You need to change a setting on the Function menu
Press “func” button, select option 1 “func menu” by pressing the rotary knob
scroll down to option 3 “DSP” via the rotary knob and then press the rotary knob
The characters on the right go green.
    Select “NM”
then P3 “BACK” and “P3 EXT” the name should then be displayed

Excellent. Thank you. An American UA-cam chap said it couldn't be programmed from on the unit. That's a relief, if a little clunky. I will probably get the programming lead, but always prefer to do it directly. It seems a lot to remember, but I have digital music workstations. This should be a doddle. 😅

Hey Mike, here's another issue with my radio...
I want to add one of our local repeaters, and it is showing the split. It has the CTC on the transmit, but it's still showing simplex when i transmit.
Another example of it's not as easy as it seems.
Also, I can not put a UHF frequency on A side, and it automatically does the split.
I have to put VHF on A and UHF on B.
In my 878, it is so easy to program. Why can't this radio be as easy

  • @goaley45
    @goaley45 4 роки тому

Your great vid provided the settings for hitting a repeater. What are the settings for simplex operation? Should CTC be turned off or set to zero as there is no tone needed?

    • @OntheMicwithMike

That’s right, simplex requires no codes or anything usually. CTC and DCS should be switched off.

I'm so new to this & this might be a dumb question but are the channels the same no matter where u live? Or how do I find which is the right ones for transmission & receiving?

    • @OntheMicwithMike
      @OntheMicwithMike  4 роки тому +2

Hi Amanda, no question is dumb :)
Depending on where you live, repeaters will change and a way to find your local repeater(s) would be to check out the RepeaterBook website, they also do an app for your mobile device.
Search your area for 2 metre and 70 centimetre repeaters and you should find a few that will be heard.
Now I must state and I presume you already know but, transmitting on this radio without a ham license on the amateur radio bands can land you in hot water.
You could use it for PMR 446 (license free) but the problem with that is - the radio isn’t a legal standard PMR radio and pushes out far too much power for the PMR band.
Just wouldn’t want anyone getting into any issues using these radios that’s all.
      Stay safe!

    Hi Mike.
After naming a channel in the memory is it possible to toggle between channel name and the settings stored to reveal frequency, CTCSS etc? Thanks. Neil

      Hi Neil,
You can indeed. In settings there’s an option to display either Channel Name or Frequency readout (which shows offset and tone as well).

I used your video to program my radio a while back. You made it easy. Now I want to program more repeaters. I can do everything except entering the shift. When I press shift i get an error message at the bottom of the screen. I also display two frequencies like it in dual watch but only in vfo mode. Confused!

I haven’t used this radio for quite some time. This is actually an old video, since then I know of two firmware updates.
I did another video later on after this video, naming memory channels: ua-cam.com/video/_3ETVh3U9g8/v-deo.html

Hi Mike, can you tell me what this radio is like using a base colinear? Do you get intermod problems or breakthrough from PMR bands? The last Chinese radio I bought I had to send back because it worked fine as a mobile but as soon as I plugged in my 2m/70cms base colinear it suffered terribly.

I couldn’t tell you to be honest. I don’t use 2m/70cm at all, purely HF myself. But hopefully someone can assist in the comments. 73’

If you've input the RX frequency in correctly and the offset correctly then it should shift to the TX frequency. If not then I don't know I'm afraid, I've never encountered it.

Everything I wanted to know about manual repeater programming - nothing I didn't want to know. You should write your own user manual for this radio.

Hello Mike1074. I just watched your programming video, nice job by the way, very helpful. I was wondering, could the user program the transmit frequency first, then the receive frequency, along with the PL's. I understood that when you program the +/- offset it should automatically set the correct transmit frequency, but sometimes the radio's firmware doesn't always do that, it's often a number or 2 off. Thanks

Hi Carl, I must admit I've never encountered any software that's not set the correct offset that I've entered myself. As for entering the transmit frequency first, I'm not sure that would work. But I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong :)
I've only ever done it RX frequency first followed by the offset.
In some software, you can manually enter the frequencies for RX and TX in that case there's no problems doing it that way.

@@OntheMicwithMike Ok, thanks for the reply and help. Some radios you can enter both the tx and rx frequency via it's microphone, I wasn't sure about this rig. As for programming via computer a lot of buyers of the Anytone 778 model have encountered issues, I'm one of them. Thanks
