Mr. Jacky 14-FRS-119 being heard 100+ miles away! | PMR 446 DX | Baofeng MP25 0.5w handheld
In this quick video, we take a look at a good radio friend of mine Mr. Jacky 14-FRS-119 out and about with his Baofeng MP25 0.5w PMR 446 handheld radio being heard across the channel over 100 miles away during an intense lift in tropo conditions on the 7th October 2023.
I was listening on the side using a legal Floureon FC200 while Jacky was in QSO with another UK station.
The extreme lift in tropo conditions meant the band lit up during the day and it was a great excuse to dust of the PMR 446 handheld radio for a listen!
I just thought it would be cool to share.

Xiegu X6100 | Internal Battery & External Power Source | Power Test
Переглядів 3,9 тис.Рік тому
In this video I test the output power of the #Xiegu #X6100 QRP ham radio on both internal battery (fully charged) and on an external power source (power supply). Using a Power/SWR meter and a dummy load, we can gauge a fairly accurate reading of what the actual power output is. I do hope the video is of some help to others who maybe in the market for a new QRP rig, or the Xiegu X6100 specifical...

Just a very quick video showing how the Xiegu X6100 decodes CW in real time. Recorded on June 2nd, 2022. It does a very decent job of decoding and with some tweaking to the settings and future firmware updates, it can only get better. Just thought it was an interesting little video to share for someone who's looking to see how it decodes CW before taking the plunge and buying one of these radio...

In the video I show you my way of building a very inexpensive and easy to build Quarter Wave antenna for 70cms - you can also change it up to suit the band you prefer. This is my own go-to to quickly make a portable and easy to setup quarter wave for mobile/portable comms, and I've had some great results with them. ...

Network Radios | Stop Zello from Hijacking the PTT Button!
Переглядів 6 тис.3 роки тому
In this video I'll show you how to stop Zello from hijacking your network radio's PTT button. A common fault with Zello in many network radios is that when Zello has been installed, It sometimes can open every single time even in other apps making them unusable with your hardware PTT button on the radio. A simple fix and hope it helps others out. Thanks for watching, Mike M7MMC.

How to manually program a repeater into a Baofeng UV5R | and other Baofeng handhelds
Very helpful. Thank you for posting.
Thank You...73s
so much simpler than stepping through the manual... thank you!
Is there a better option today? Elecraft T1 or MAT10? Or does this still hold up? Cheers
I've long since sold this and the radio. There are better built-in options on QRP radios nowadays.
@OnTheMicwithMike I get you but nothing to date has passed the yeasu for the durability factor
Excellent. Thank you. An American UA-cam chap said it couldn't be programmed from on the unit. That's a relief, if a little clunky. I will probably get the programming lead, but always prefer to do it directly. It seems a lot to remember, but I have digital music workstations. This should be a doddle. 😅
Very helpful. Did all that but When I transmit I don't know if I've opened the repeater. Our local one dosn't respond by voice. But I'm not even getting the sound of the squelch opening.
does anyone know how can i pair baofeng bf-t3 my kids have with a baofeng bf-h7. i can't find the correct frequences
If within the UK, the BF-T3 should be 8 channels 1-8 on the PMR 446 frequencies. You just need the first 8 channels programmed into the BF-H7. But however, the BF-H7 isn't legal to use on 446MHz in the UK due to its power output and removable antenna.
@@OnTheMicwithMike i am not in UK. i set BF-T3 on channel 1 and subchannel 1 for example and then i set the frequency on my BF-H7 from the table provided which is 462.5625 but there is no communication.
@@marcusbrown2881 Are you sure both radios have been programmed for the same frequencies? Sub channels are CTSS codes, so my guess is that what one radio may class as channel 1 (CTSS or sub channel) might differ from the other radio.
While the radio looks awesome, the programming looks really cumbersome. But, thank you for making this! I've "liked" it for reference later.
I ashamed to admit but I have trouble when I do read the manual ! Much nicer to read and watch a demonstration ! TNX
One hard radio to learn manual is useless!!
It sure is! :)
I have tried it with two yagi's (2M &70 CM ) and got a distant signal on saturday as there were more clear signals coming in on the HF on my FT950 but not on the RT95.. still no matter will press on. went and Bought a Colinear last night 200c Moonraker vertical I'll try that at Night as there are better signals later on in the evening here in the UK
Hi. Thank you for the video, just one issue, as soon as I press the PTT button I get "TX DISABLED", I tried all remedies I found on YT, but nothing helped. Any advice, please? Thank you. 73, M6VMO.
Just a quick thought, within Chirp (if it is where you programmed it) there can be with some radios a TX enable and disable option within the sidebar when you have downloaded info from the radio. Have a look there, as the box for TX enable might be unticked. Worth a look at least. 73'
Turn off pin number?
Thanks mate!
it's almost like SO239 are made for this.. .But, I thought they start to get lossy above 100 mHZ?
Does it talk to walkie talkies?
Pmr 446 walkies, yes.
what is the bnc connector on the front for
To connect a portable antenna. You can pretty much carry it as a portapak.
@@OnTheMicwithMike i know that, but why is there something connected to the front in the vid and why
@@malcwallace4119 It's pretty much a dust cap. Keeps dirt and muck from getting into the socket.
Great review and High power mode switchover 10 stars Mate!😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
I imagine manually programming the 5RM is different, do you have video instructions for the 5RM?
Afraid not, the basics are the same I should imagine. I have been tempted to get one but I rarely use VHF and UHF, so haven't yet.
Thanks!! Worked like a charm!
My question is how to upload my pre programmed Bao Feng frequencies and then transfer them to a new TYT HT-7800 I received in a raffle.... I was able to upload to the Chirp but then when trying to transfer those to the TYT radio the 'radio' is greyed out showing Bao Feng and I cannot change to the TYT HT 7800.... There's gotta be a way though.....I haven't figured that out....
Thank you ...Thank you .. Thank you !!!
I own both those devices, but I lost the mini DIN cable. Can I still use the tuner with the 817 radio, without causing issues ? 73 de SV4RIN
I honestly can't remember, I don't own the radio or tuner anymore. 73'
This was great. Brilliant review 73’s.
Nice and clear instructions. 73 KN6ZVI
I'm in search of access to the service menu. I would like to trim the low & medium power levels.
on 7:00, how do you change the name of the saved channel without the software?
You can't.
Is there no way to bring up the frequency that is attached to that channel name with out jumping back through all of those menu hoops? TIA 73 KN6ZVI
Afraid not, it's a right pain to keep switching but there's no work around I know of. 73
I have the next generation Tidradio H8. When I try to upload my frequency list I get this error message > unable to upload file. This is a radio- independant file and can not be uploaded directly to a radio. open a radio image (or download one from a radio) And then copy/paste items from this tap into that one in order to up load. HuH? what radio image? where do I get it from this H8? I am connected to the radio via a tidradio cable. the radio is selected in chirp. all looks good except for this error. Please help. Thankyou
Doesn't sound like it's compatible, it may even be the driver not communicating with the computer correctly too. Have you tried Tidradio's own programming software?
@@OnTheMicwithMike I tried the odmaster and it does not give me a full spreadsheet. You have to step through each channel and type in what you want. just as slow as manual programming. I am thinking to purchase the Rtsystems software. expensive but the only alternative. Thanks for the speedy reply.
Great video but didnt work on AT 778UV very frustrating radio , any workaround pls?
It works on all 778UV's I've programmed for people. Unless the newer ones have an updated firmware.
Worked on mine but I entered my names through the upload. I just moved to the second stem of choosing the name.
Brilliant thank you so much - nice an clear more videos on this radio please
thanks great simple and to the point.
Thank you so much. 73 de AA6JY

These radios have only got a small coil antenna in the tubing I cut the tubing down and it is now just over an inch and I recapped the top of tubing.
Messing with the length of the antenna will change the SWR of the set. Potentially damaging it.
Hi Mike, i dont have a 891 but seriously looking at this and the Xeigu G90 (yes I know its not a 100watts) for mobile/sota/mobile use. I noticed the vid is now 4 years old, are you still using the 891 and whats your long term thoughts on this radio? Thanks and keep up the good work! (New subscriber M0KTY)
Hello, I've long since sold this radio. I wasn't a big fan of it to be honest, due to the countless menu items to do simple things. I sold it on in 2020. I wouldn't mind a G90 myself but can't bring myself to part with the X6100 to make way for one yet :) all the best and 73'
Clearest video I've seen yet.
Did you fit a ground wire.
No need with it. It's very forgiving.
Pulled mine out of the box and hit up your video. Got me on to the basics of the menu and settings. Very well discribed. Thanks
Outstanding presentation. Very helpful
Hi what size dummy batteries does the porta pack take I got two aa size dummy batteries and they won’t fit
Kudos for this video. Every time I have to think of programming anything on the portable transceivers gives me anxiety. This video helped prove that anxieties are now the thing of the past (at least for Yaesu radios that is). Thanks!
Great help. Thank you.
But what does it when the L3 is blinking while on external power and the radio is set to full power?
Thank you. You got straight to the point with easy to follow instructions. Well done.
Thank you Mike, very much appreciate the feedback.
How can you tell when the battery is charged and how long does it take
I can't quite remember. This is an old video and I've no longer got the radio or the battery pack anymore.
The supplied charger has a red l.e.d. for charging and green for fully charged
Great video
