In this video I test the output power of the #Xiegu #X6100 QRP ham radio on both internal battery (fully charged) and on an external power source (power supply). Using a Power/SWR meter and a dummy load, we can gauge a fairly accurate reading of what the actual power output is. I do hope the video is of some help to others who maybe in the market for a new QRP rig, or the Xiegu X6100 specifical...

Just a very quick video showing how the Xiegu X6100 decodes CW in real time. Recorded on June 2nd, 2022. It does a very decent job of decoding and with some tweaking to the settings and future firmware updates, it can only get better. Just thought it was an interesting little video to share for someone who's looking to see how it decodes CW before taking the plunge and buying one of these radio...

In this video I'll show you how to stop Zello from hijacking your network radio's PTT button. A common fault with Zello in many network radios is that when Zello has been installed, It sometimes can open every single time even in other apps making them unusable with your hardware PTT button on the radio. A simple fix and hope it helps others out. Thanks for watching, Mike M7MMC.

Outstanding!
Thank you very much sir! you are the best. In my crazy do it myself, somehow, my radio display turned upside down. If you or anyone else could help please advise. Thank you!
Hi there, please help. I have one of these but I don’t know how to use it I can’t get any output?
No output? How do you mean?
As of 2025, I believe the Chirp will still not program a Quansheng radio.
Did you have the setting on narrowband or wideband
Narrow for 70cm.
@OntheMicwithMike thanks 👍
Very helpful, thank you Mike, especially for a newbie like me. I had been struggling to understand the manual. Now I'll try programming mine for my local repeater (GB3CG). Regards, Peter M7HGC
I'm glad it was of some help, and many thanks for the kind feedback, it's very much appreciated. 73
Thanks for sharing 👍
You are a Godsend. I have never seen a more obtuse manual. I have to follow you through each step pausing along the way. Thank you again for making it doable.
Thank you for kind words, glad the video was of some help. Enjoy the radio!
Thanks. So far mine is not heard on a friend’s FRS, although I can receive them. I tried resetting in the GMRS mode. I guess I will try to set to unlocked. Curious if there is a setting to toggle
Excellent video. Very easy to follow. Thanks Mike
Thank you for the kind words. Very much appreciated indeed.
i have this radio it wont talk to chirp so trying and failing to do it all manually func 3 dosnt do anything to mine it just sits there if yu try to ransmit it says disabled thought these were supposed to be easy to use kinda stuffed if it wont talk to chirp without force breaking off its data cable in its port
Have you tried a different programming cable? Also, is the computer seeing the cable at all. If the computer doesn't see the cable then Chirp won't. Windows 11 also killed off supporting PL2303 drivers for serial connections so all those cheap Chinese programming generic cables are useless. You need an up to date cable with an FTDI chip inside. Mine works flawlessly with Chirp and Quansheng's own programming software.
@@OntheMicwithMike bad cable that came with it it sees it now im about to egzummer 22 on it to open it up chirp sees the radio but loading downloaded from chirp channel packs lpd pmr and repeaters list it cant seem to do
Super thanks!!! Good video! Very clear! Thanks again sir!
what is export mode for?
You can use it to access the amateur band if you have a license. Also, to use in other countries as the frequencies differ.
@@OntheMicwithMike ok, understood! thanks
Thanks for the thorough explanation. Greetings from Bulgaria.
Thanks for the thorough explanation .Greetings from Bulgaria !
Hello. I tried table 3. Then back to table 1. My radio seems to have stopped working. It hisses etc. But I'm picking nothing up at all. Used to pick up a lot in EU am. Do you think I've damaged radio? Regards
Doing this wouldn't have done anything to the radio at all. Conditions haven't been the best on the CB band recently. I'm sure you'll pick up some voices soon enough when better conditions come.
very usefull thx
Thanks mike, ive just got my tx a few days ago
It's a cracking handheld, superb noise reduction on it. Enjoy the radio, 73' all the best.
Thank you! 🙏
Is Shift the Offset ?
It is yes
Well done Mike, I watched many uploads on manually programming the UV5R, and this one is the best of them all in my opinion. The only question I have is, why the need to add the reverse frequency to the channel in your final step?
Much appreciated for the feedback. To be honest I've no idea anymore, been a very long time since this video was done and I've forgotten most as I use chirp more now :)
When I follow the directions for the chirp software on the spreadsheet, I have all of the frequencies and offsets set properly. When I go to upload it to the radio it uploads everything except the frequencies for every channel. All channels end up the same 145.470. (which is the first channel listed on the spreadsheet) Why will the frequencies from the spreadsheet not upload to the radio properly?
The freq end up being the same for each channel even though the downloaded spread sheet shows the correct freq and when I upload back to the radio, the freq on the uploaded spread sheets are correct. They just don't end up on the radio. It repeats the 1st freq for each channel programed in the radio.
The file you're using with the frequencies is for the radio you're trying to upload to? I can't say I've ever encountered this problem myself. My only guess is the file is for a different radio than what you may be trying to program. Each radio can differ slightly as it will upload radio settings than might not be compatible with the radio.
@ Thanks for the input. I'm not real techie, I am in my 70s, and I was looking at the frequency while in channel mode so of course it wasn't changing as I was changing channels in channel mode. Once I changed to freq mode the freq changed as I flipped though the channels while in freq mode. So there was no problem, just operator failure.......LOL. So I guess in young person vernacular.....MY BAD. Thanks
@@prepperboss I've done the exact same thing myself sir! haha. Enjoy the radio, all the best.

Thanks for this new vidéo Mike 👍👍 Best 73 from Normandy France 🇲🇫 Jacky 14FRS119
eBay calls it terms like "BNC to dual banana jack" or more precisely "BNC male to dual female banana jack." They're quite handy for creating the center connector for a dipole.
Im wanting to get this one but it's on Amazon as the uv-k5 (99) i primarily just want to use it as a scanner seeing as i live in a downtown area i really only want to know if there's any fires or police issues but it would also allow me to make sure that i can tell my fiancee if something happens out where she works
You could be better off actually buying a dedicated scanner for those.
This model you have is a very wake volum.... Other and same. Shape has a very strong volum. ✅✅✅✅✅❤️❤️
When unlocked, is it able to transmit on Aviation bands (not just listen)? 118-123.5 I'm a legitimate user (pilot) and I have a Yuasa for aviation, but it only does aviation bands and it would be convenient to have one radio that does it all.
I'm also courious about that. To have it as a backup emergency radio while doing crosscountry flights.
It seems to be entirely locked out from transmitting on the air band unfortunately.
I also have an aviation radio operators certificate. will this work?
@@b0mazor afraid not. It's locked out entirely from TX on the airband.

Hi Mike can you get Sideband on this radio.
Hello Paul, no afraid not. FM and AM only. 73'
Great info. From Canada, stay safe and vigilant
I have a set of Baufeng UV-5R5. IT'S not programming same as yours as different keyboard set up.
Any idea how to transmit on cb channel 1. 026.965. I just get a beep in unlocked mode
You can't. It's a not designed to transmit on the CB bands.
@OntheMicwithMike thank you!
Would you knock out the factory setting s also is there anybody on those frequency s
You wouldn't no. It's perfectly fine to do it hence it's been built into in the firmware. As for anyone on there, that's down to conditions really, it's possible if the conditions are right.
@OntheMicwithMike thank you buddy
I put in channels many years ago and I seemed to remember just typing in the transmit freq without entering the offset. I tried that again and it would not work like that. Am I doing something wrong ?
how to scan?
To scan channels, while in channel memory mode hold down scan button for 4 seconds. Press Exit when you want to stop.
