- In this video, we take a look at how to expand transmit frequencies in the Retevis RT95 (Anytone 778). Make sure you understand and follow; local, state and federal laws and regulations. Also, make sure you are aware of any license requirements for operation.

Best video. no extra talking... just come on the point which i expect from the titel!!!! LOVE IT!
Thanks, glad you liked it 👍
Agreed. I will actively avoid channels that waste time.
New fan!
Thanks for sharing the info 👍
Good info. This chassis and form factor looks exactly like the Stryker SR-94hpc and the Anytone Apollo II 10 (and 11) meter radios.
Thanks for the info FTroop, I am not familiar with those radios...
Good info thanks Ape.
Thanks Thump 👍
Yes! Thank you my friend
Thanks for watching Terry!
Good little radio, had mine for over a year. Done this back then but a pain in the backside when scanning it takes an age.
There was a couple of out of band (local airport) frequencies I wanted to listen to and was able to program them into the memory with Chirp bypassing having to change the continental modes.
Hey ND, thanks for the comment and for watching 👍
I am thinking of getting one or two of these. I have an Anytone D-578, it was in the jeep, now in my shack. Being able to use it for MURS and GMRS makes it the perfect radio for local emergency comms. - the 779 or the RT95 would do the same job, and since I am not really doing Digital there is no reason to have the more expensive model.
It’s hard to beat what you get for 100$
I have tried that but i have the crt micron vox and the ch goes from 39 to 42 so theres no ch 43 mode.
Cheers man I've just got an RT 95
Nice 🍻
Thank you so much.
Thanks for watching!
Great info.
Thanks Adam 👍
Cool hack.
Thanks Jason 👍
After the hack is there a possibility to use to listen to FM channels here in Europe,I mean 87.5Mhz-108Mhz
I like you videos a lot, they're well explained and give lots of ideas and info
Hey Herman, glad you like the videos. I didn't test the FM broadcast band but I am going to say that I do not believe it does.
@@TheSmokinApe Thx a lot have a nice WE
Will this work on Anytone 778uv ? Great video, thanks !
I believe so
Can you transmit on 450 MHz after doing this?
Thanks for the nice video. I see that mode 2 covers the Marine vhf frequencies (i.e., 156MHz - 158MHz). Does this mean that it will transmit on the Marine VHF frequencies?
Not legally 😐
@@TheSmokinApe but legal for emergency use! And to be honest, it would likely be the only time I would use the RT95 on a marine vhf channel. Thank you again.
Thanks for asking this question, I wanted to know the same, (Australia). It appears to also do the AU UHF CB as well.
Hi Ape!
Are those 3 modes the only ones available? It would be interesting to know if there is a mode that includes 446MHz (PMR-446 in the EU).
Thanks for the video!
73,
Jan (M7HNK)
I think mode 2 covered that.
@@TheSmokinApe Brilliant, thanks! :-) I missed that, but when I looked at the video again I saw at approx 02:29 that you have 471.150 on the VFO, which is perfect.
And according to CHIRP... this radio is on their list as a supported model!
Nice 👍
I seen that! away at the bottom of their list on the Retevis radio models. I went and downloaded it for my delivery on tuesday.
Is there a list of frequency ranges each mode unlocks?
Band 1: 144-148 & 430-440......... Band 2: 136-174 & 400-490......... Band 3: 144-146 & 430-440 ..................Band 2 is the most open by far.
I have the Anytone AT-778UV version of this radio and mine shipped from Amazon set in region 3. I put mine back to stay within my band limit. Also worth mentioning if you change the region as shown in the video it will nuke your stored memory channels. At least it did on mine.
Ah, that would be a good think to think about…. The stores memories.
Why on earth would you limit the bands! There are a lot of repeaters that use 442 - 444...
@@Rusted_Link 420-450MHz is within the US region setting of the 778UV. You get the full US 70cm band. No clue where you got the idea I was limiting 70cm down to the lower portion.
@@jbrooks4282 because the radio only goes as high as 440 out of the box. As does the CS.
Is this rig small enough to fit within in a 5.25" compuy drive bay?
It’s about 4.88” wide 👍
Hey Ape, does the jail break work on the Anytone AT778UV also or different firmware?
Oops I just read comment from jbrooks, I guess it does
Yes, it does 👍
@@TheSmokinApe thanks ape!
Nice video, but I wanted to take the opportunity to ask another question. My rt95 is with the power in UHF, fixed at 5w, however much you change the power levels the output is 5w. I tested the current at different power levels and it is stable in it. can anybody help me?
Well, that seems to be a problem. Did you contact the vendor?
@@TheSmokinApe It's been 8 months since I bought the equipment.
Oh... Maybe try anyway?
Will this reach the gmrs bands?
Yes
Can this be done on the RA-87 40 Watt model?
Sorry, I don’t know
@@TheSmokinApe Actually my bad, that one is GMRS only
great vid, im ham whos too cheap to buy a dedicated gmrs. Nuff said :-)
I think I understand what you are saying
Thanks for the info, I have just purchased this radio after selling my yeasu FT817 as i only mess on 2 and 70 in the uk. Could you or fellow commentors recommend a car/van antenna setup for this radio?
For mobile 2/70 I use the Comet SBB-5 (fantastic antenna) and the Diamond 400 lip mount. Tram makes "decent" magnet mount antennas that a lot of folks use as well 👍
Is there a way to get the 151-158 range?
apologies if this is a dumb question, I just want my RV to be able to communicate with my Rugged Radios in my side by sides
Sorry, I’m not sure
Does this open up 2m transmit?
Stock it will so 2m
@@TheSmokinApe we still run analog for the FD it's 154mhz I was just curious if it would transmit there
Not working on my RT95, please Help
What happened? Stayed the same?
If you own Yaesu mobile radios, you should be able to handle a two finger and thumb turn on radio.
Lol
In mode 2 my Rt95 is only fully programable trough software, while
In mode 3 I can use software or the radio interface.

Thanks for the info Manta 👍
Good litle Radios For the money..my cousin has one & I have the Retevis RT-25 I Really Like having a volume knob appose to the software volume but Both have Pros & Cons that i am sure about ! But like i said mine is also open because i use GMRS & Listen to 2m & 70cm Bands a lot and for the money you just cant beat these little things ...I hear repeaters that are 180 Miles away from me Yes i said 180 Miles I don't know How but i Do don't Get me Wrong i Bought the Best Antenna i Could Find Comet GP 9NC & All Copper Coax That is Rated Better Than LMR-600 But as you may have Guessed I Spent more than a Fuw Bucks but like i said i wanted the Best i Could Find/Get ! I Bought So Called High Quality Coax from ebay & Amazon like 3-4 Different vendors & it was all Junk/Bad so i said piss on it an bought the best M&P Hyperflex 10 Sahara it is rated at 2.5db loss per 100ft I use 60ft an i use the Evo Connectors ..my point being if you are only getting 6-8 miles from your radio and antenna then you are doing something wrong is all !
Yeah, these are good no-frills radios that work well. That antenna story is awesome, being frank, more people should take the approach of focusing on their antennas 👍
@@TheSmokinApe I have ben into radios for decades now & 1 thing i am 100% Certain about (i bet you are to) is that ANY Good station MUST Start With a Good Antenna & Coax ..you could buy a 12,000$ radio and still not talk down the block with a bad peace of coax or antenna !
Just bought 1, 1st thing i did was open it up, not used it otherwise as of yet 😂
Lol, good luck with the radio 👍
I still did not see gmrs, range frequencies.
On Mode 2, it goes up to 490.00 which covers GMRS!
That dingus looks familiar
Just your run of the mill dingus 👍
Anytone clone?
Rebranded Anytone 👍
I bought mine simply because of its compact size.
Mine is branded as in any cone but it's essentially the same damn radio
Anyone not any cone. Autocorrect sucks.
Anytone
LOL, yes they are the same radio 👍
*insert witty comment here*
Lol
Dang it, just missed it.
First.
I three finger salute you good sir!
Howdy folks 👍
Can’t take anyone seriously who doesn’t remove the plastic screen protector before use.
Lol
This hack is old now .People have been doing this for a long time...OLD NEWS LOL
Glad you liked the video 👍
Maz thanks for letting us know how cool you are and how behind the times we are. Unfortunatly not everyone is blessed with your fonzie level of coolness so that is why we are here, picking up info that passed us by, late to the game so to speak. I just bought this radio today and then found this video, I must have missed your video that you did on it however many years ago when it first came out, do you have a link?
Its not a hack lol
Ok
do you know what the definition of a hack is? hack meaning to change something from its original intended purpose through an ingenious way of accomplishing it. and yes button combinations and power on's are all forms of gaining access to area's we arnt meant to be in. what this isnt is a jailbreak
my anytone AT-778UV already came as mode 2 as default
Nice
Can you transmit on 450 MHz after doing this?
