You realize that racism and xenophobia, particularly in fiction is sometimes not only true, but the only way to approach certain species. Like say the xenomorphs, would you say it was bad to be xenophobic about an alien bug who's only desire is to use you as a womb. Or what about orcs from LOTR, is it racist to hate a species literally bred to hunt and kill the races of men. Aside from that, YOU CAN'T BE RACIST TO SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T ACTUALLY EXIST. just had to get that off my chest, thank you for your time.
Ah, yes. First RPG I've ever played . Turns out that playing KOTOR in language you don't understand with fan-made localisation while being 11 years old makes it a lot different. Twist was mind-blowing at the time, tho
I am so stoked for this! I just found this channel a few weeks ago and I'm dumbfounded by the scope of amazing content you produce. I truly hope you gain the following you deserve on this platform
Love both kotor 1 & 2. Been playing them since I was a kid, yet as an adult I have to say kotor 2 with the restored content mod is one of the best starwars games of all imo. It still reminds me how we lost out on a proper kotor 3. Like frodo, I will carry that wound for the rest of my life.
@Paraponera Personally, I had always been more of a fan of Kotor 2. Hell, I even finished that game before I even finished Kotor, and this was on original Xbox mind you. Kotor, while fun, is overtly cheesy... even for the time it came out. The dialogue options are far too black and white, Malak is Diet Darth Vader but with the characterization of a 90’s Saturday morning cartoon villain. The campions are pretty one dimensional in my opinion and their side quests don’t really do anything for you or the story... They’re just there if you wanna make the game longer. And Taris, while I enjoy the story, is very much a chore to get through in replays. So much so that I recommend my friends play Kotor 2 first for this reason alone. I recognize Kotor 2 wouldn’t exist without its predecessor but for all the cut content and glitches and stuff... I still feel like Kotor 2 improved a lot on Kotor’s shortcomings in the writing, gameplay, and customization. These are my thoughts thought. I definitely wouldn’t want one without the other!
If I'll be honest with you guys, KOTOR 2 did improve on the dialogue, characters, and choices you made. Had better antagonists and 2 dimensional companions. These are things Chris Avelone and Obsidian are good at. But the combat I think got worse in the second entry, and peragus is a chore to go through on a second playthrough
I remember the first time I did a dark side playthrough, the first dark side choice I made was to kill the woman who defended herself from some dude's drunken sexual assault. Then I questioned my entire morality and conscious
You are completely justified in questioning your moral compass by that point thought. I too would wonder how was that choice considered the "evil dark side" one L Mao
Einstein didn't invent the bomb, he just wrote a letter to Roosevelt telling him the nazis might be working on it. Your point still stands though. There was a massive exodua of nobel laureates from Germany after the nazis took power. Some of them wound up working on the Manhattan project. Anyway, do KotOR 2 bro
Kreia never says Apathy is Death, your force vision of her says it. Ironically you can only get that force vision if you're not being apathetic since you have to be dark or light to enter the cave.
Regarding the "Item(s) Received" message: the dialogue history (or combat history, I forget which) tab in your menu will specify which items you got. It's stupid that you have dig through a separate menu to figure out what you got and it's double stupid that this info is never communicated to the player, but the option is there.

When I played this at release I didn't know you could disengage from combat... yeah, that last room with infinite fucking droids was super fun 😑. Whatever, infinate butt plugs ain't so bad. Looks like the 360 wasn't the only Xbox that gave me the red ring of death. 💢💨

You’re completely right about the flawed sith philosophy. That’s the reason Bane institutes the rule of two, so that Sith Lords would limit their numbers. This stops infighting and ensures a transition of power when the apprentice kills the master. You’re right about the Jedi too. You should definitely do a video on Kotor 2. I’m sure you’re aware it’s a bunch of critique on the two schools
I think he did not do the Franchise justice. Sith and Jedi are like that because of the Force and how it works. Kreia hated how the force works and how it makes those ideologies exist in a universe that the force governs with it's fate. That is partially why she wanted it destroyed.
@@nc956 What. By pure logic the force is just that, a neutral source of power. The ideologies and factions around it are born because different people perceives it differently. To me is like saying that wars happen because guns control the mind of their owners. Kreia's story is one of declaring war on nature itself. The only story where the force acts as some self aware entity is the one that tries to explains anakin's birth, but yeah, that's a different canon.
@@ricochet8104 Force was never shown as a neutral tool even if it was used as one by sith. On the contrary - it was often shown and said that it has some kind of will or balance which is not neutral at all (it eradicates sith because they create an imbalance by their use of force). And yet - the existance of sith is inevitable, as the dark side is generated by using the force in great emotions. Which corrupts the user like a drug. (that is why jedi indoctrinate force sensitives from the young age - to prevent that) And all living beings have emotions. Some of them will succumb to the lure of power and emotion and abandon peace and reason. The force "allows" gentle and selfless emotions like compassion. But emotions like greed and lust or wrath are disturbing the balance. Since the balance is not philosophically neutral and requires certain worldview it creates the division to light and dark side by default. Which jedi and sith represent and their ideologies are bound to the definition of balance in some sense because it must relate to the central concept.
@@nc956 Sadly that explanation ignores the separation between the properties of the force itself and the methodology of the different factions who control it. Both revan and luke are examples of neutral ground force users who are able to accept both positive and negative emotions in some sort of balance, defying to concept of the light side made by the jedi and thus the idea that balance is not philosofically neutral. The dark side is destructive, the light side is good but that does not mean that a faction representing the light side won't commit atrocities. But, that does not mean that by extension the light side is corrupted too, it's as easy as understanding that force is a tool, a metaphisical concept wielded by phisical beings who participate in bureucracy and politics, being the reason why it can be linked to flawed methodologies. You even have the nightsisters as an explanation of this. True balance is the understanding and acceptance of both the dark side and the light side, wich prevents the destructive traits of the dark, and the negligence of most light side users who never try to understand what they are fighting against, wich is one of the central themes in kotor 2. And again, most stories about the force trying to get rid of the sith are mostly part of the EU canon, and for the most part some of them tend to be contradictory. The force is nothing without it's users.
@@ricochet8104 I disagree. In my opinion Revan failed to maintain "balance" in a sense of balance between light and dark. He became sith lord eventually. And only some mind manipulation allowed him to make the choice again. When it comes to Luke I only know his charcter in films so idk. In films he also shortly became angry while fighting but never gave in. (that was his choice at the end of OG series when he defied palpatine.) To be honest I know only Old Republic when it comes to the EU and I firmly believe that both old republic games and the films strongly suggest that balance is basically the light side of the force. I'll send here the film that explains my stance more clearly as it would take me hours to find clips and dialogue parts that justify my position. I will only mention that the irl philosohy that force is made after (The Dao in Taoism or Zen in buddhism) works almost exactly how I describe it, except the fact that it obviously don't give you powers, disobeying it won't make you an addict to "evil" and so on.
For any first time kotor players who watched this: I'd strongly suggest not staying at level 2 for all of Taris. You will get more jedi levels later in the game but it makes the early game even worse and will be really frustrating on your first playthrough. Level up to 4 or 6 (or screw it, 8 is fine too. It's not like the difficulty of mid/lategame is tuned THAT high) on taris and you won't suffer through getting gunned down every 10 minutes.
I love these games so much. I'd say Kotor 1/2, Halo CE/2, and Timesplitters Future Perfect are my favorite games of all time and have absolutely formed my childhood. I played the campaigns and story modes all the time when I was young, so when I finally got the desire to play multiplayer, I was late to the party. 10 years after playing Kotor 1 and 2 for the first time, I'm still learning new things. >kotor 2 works out of the box yeah because that 1 frame per ten seconds caused by the laser cells on peragus and talos without compatability mode on is totally intentional
on newer machines/software (possibly a windows 10 exclusive issue) the cell that you find atton in on peragus causes severe frame drops when you face the camera in its direction, as well as the cells you get stuck in on talos IV when you first get there i spent 6+ hours trying to troubleshoot it and found out you have to enable the "experimental mode" or whatever on the steam copy (which also disables achievements) and i believe also set the .exe to run in compatability mode for a 2003 version of windows
@@youtubeisnotsocialmedia I have literally never had that issue with KotOR 2. On several PCs I've owned it's worked right out of the box, so to speak. Even the Windows 10 PC that I currently have has never had this issue. That's the unfortunate downside of PC gaming. It's impossible to ensure that it will work perfectly on every PC. There are just too many possible combinations of hardware, software, and OS. That's not necessarily a problem of the creators either (although it can be). That's just the nature of the beast.
That’s nothing. Try playing kotor 2 on the Xbox 360. Frame rate constantly lags during combat, random audio beeping and buzzing when you open the menu. Playable but annoying. Playing on the original Xbox or Xbox one is good. No wierd shit like that
I recently completed my first KOTOR playtrough and went full lightside and I find the story very cool, but I think they messed up on the lightside dialogue after you discover you are Revan. Revan was a good guy at first, right? So why didn't they give him some goodboi lines that would allude to his original Jedi character instead of spamming "I'm not Revan anymore" and "Remember the jedi code". It really felt like I was a drone of the Jedi council instead of a redeemed badass.
I just watched a long feature-length film of a video, and I never once thought of clicking off. There is a point about leveling up to level 7 on taris as a scout to get level 4 stelath strike. You get a stealth strike on any stunned guy. Insanity your enemies and then get do the dual flurry with force speed. You will get 4 stealth strikes in One round every stealth strike is +7d6 or something. And of course all the other damage you would have done anyway.
Bruh this setup is GORGEOUS. I've beaten his game and its sequel around 30 times and it's never looked so good. *Accidentally becomes Kreia halfway through video*
Korriban is by far the best planet in the game and really should be played last. It's super frustrating but also very entertaining to tell everyone that you're Revan and have them not believe you.

I don't enjoy the dark side playthroughs as much from a story perspective, but from a min max, I can totally do it to see just how powerful you can become by the end. Some of the dark side choices are funny instead of edgy.
@@StratEdgyProductions personally I've never actually been able complete a darkside playthrough of either game i've always either been neutral or light side(i've tried to be dark but my morals always end up messing things up...or i just think the dark side decision doesn't make logical sense even as a dark side user for me to do so i don't lol)
Dark side I just found more fun way to break the games story and how it's character's are written, when I was younger I also found it hard to turn from the light side too much, but as I got older and got more prevy to the Jedis bs I found it fun to pick in the goody two shoes faction more, it's mall it comes down to really, assholes and Hypocrits..alot like real life actually

So when I was a kid, I didn't actually read data pads I didn't have to, so when I got to the Rancor part on Taris, I went the 30 minute route.
1. Gather all the mines
2. Set them all up
3. Aggro the Rancor
4. See him die instantly one step away from you
5. Shoot his corpse
6. Go forward like a boss
my dumb adhd ass couldn't comprehend data pads, i was stuck in that area for 3 days.
1. Use Mission
2 . Run around the map looking for mines
3. Disarming said mines
4. Create a super mine with mission's invisibility
5. Uncloak mission's invis
6. switch back to main character and sit just outside of the door
7. Watch the rancor slowly making his way to mission as she stands on the mines
8. Mission accomplished

You really sold me on the first 23 minutes, but I’m convinced this entire video was made for your dreamweaver cover bit. I laughed my ass off
Love both kotor 1 & 2. Been playing them since I was a kid, yet as an adult I have to say kotor 2 with the restored content mod is one of the best starwars games of all imo. It still reminds me how we lost out on a proper kotor 3. Like frodo, I will carry that wound for the rest of my life.
What did you think of fallen order?

Your content is easily some of the most well thoughtout and consistently watchable of these types of essay style videos, and believe me, I do watch A LOT. Excited by how much your channel has grown so far.
@@ricochet8104
Force was never shown as a neutral tool even if it was used as one by sith.
(that is why jedi indoctrinate force sensitives from the young age - to prevent that)
And all living beings have emotions.
@@ricochet8104
I disagree.
(that was his choice at the end of OG series when he defied palpatine.)
To be honest I know only Old Republic when it comes to the EU and I firmly believe that both old republic games and the films strongly suggest that balance is basically the light side of the force.
It's not like the difficulty of mid/lategame is tuned THAT high) on taris and you won't suffer through getting gunned down every 10 minutes.

>kotor 2 works out of the box
yeah because that 1 frame per ten seconds caused by the laser cells on peragus and talos without compatability mode on is totally intentional
what? I've never had that issue before
dude what are you talking about?
on newer machines/software (possibly a windows 10 exclusive issue) the cell that you find atton in on peragus causes severe frame drops when you face the camera in its direction, as well as the cells you get stuck in on talos IV when you first get there
i spent 6+ hours trying to troubleshoot it and found out you have to enable the "experimental mode" or whatever on the steam copy (which also disables achievements) and i believe also set the .exe to run in compatability mode for a 2003 version of windows

I did a run through were I picked every single darkside choice in the game. I LOVED IT! In fact I can never even think of playing it lightside ever again.
2.5 hours of solid fucking gold. You killed it on this one strat.
That armor you found on korriban for lightside users only is how I beat Malak. The immunity to critical hits saved my life many many times.
Would love to see one for KOTOR 2.
This is probably my favorite SWTOR video on youtube, consider it high praise for a title i hold so dear, meatbag.
cant wait for SWTOR 2 Sith video if youre planning on making one
cheers
Sorry I have to be that assclown... KOTOR*
@@JJJBunney001 oh I didnt even realise, phone keyboard tings
When the girl in the lower level of Taris asks you what it's like on the upper level I to thought of that scene from Futurama
Haha. That spoiler before the 5-minute mark. GLORIOUS.
For some reason I don’t remember much from this game. The first planet and the ending is about all that I remember. I wonder if I skipped a bunch of stuff
Underated video, needs more views ,c'mon algorithm!
That dreamweaver cover had no right to be that decent
I really love finding new (new to me) content creators to listen to and enjoy. Good shit man.
you can avoid the robots before the Malak fight by just following him through that door
22:32 forgot how amazing this cover was 🤣🤣 every time I fall asleep to this video it wakes me up. Amazing
Brilliant video once again Strat, the edits were on point
I saw the whole video and didnt even noticed it was 2h, cool sht bro!
All you need in this game is burst of speed. Idk if it's was just my built but after I got I was destroying everybody in seconds. Malak died near the first heal point
Loved all the pop culture references!
Goddamn i forgot how KoTOR was such a game with great writing.
