Kenshi is on the short list of my all time favorite games, still play it to this day. The modding scene is insane, some dude completely converted the world to Star Wars.
I once befriended a bunch of factions by playing as a skeleton, kidnapping one of their people, having them hit me (to level up those stats) then heal them because they take damage hitting me... at the time, you do that long enough to each and most factions end up liking you. Wild game
I know holy nation will forgive your cyberarm if you have +30 rep with them. Do they forgive you for being an incarnation of Satan if you have high enough rep?
If you buy their freedom they get friendly too. You just have to drop them near slavers. If you have 600k cats you can capture a guy that is part of the Gutter faction (that is only beak thing and him) if you buy his freedom enough time the gutter will become ally with your faction. So you basically become immune to break things. You can even build a base in Gut and they will eat every raid that comes to you while you are chilling. You can befriend any faction that has at least a humanoid creature that can be enslaved. I am not sure about the most powerful skeletons because when they enslave they usually loot and if they remove the CPU they die instantly.
A great late game strat for vanilla is maxing out a guys sneak and kidnapping, kidnapping a high level character (bugmaster is easiest), and locking them in a room of your base as a sparring partner. Once your stats are good enough from sparring, do the same to the Ashland skeleton boss and leave him de-limbed in your base on a skeleton bed. As long as you don’t kill him, you can infinitely and quickly train martial arts and toughness on humans (for punching metal).
Bro I gotta say your Kenshi video is 10/10, I have 2k hours in this game and I never get tired of Kenshi content. Your kotor and this Kenshi video are my absolute favorite, looking forward to more Kenshi videos from you!
I already watched this 5 times on Patreon, one of yoru best vids. It caught me off guard how engaging the story you tell here about your characters is. and the fact that is completely organic and emergent even is the best pitch I can think of for why ppl should play Kenshi
My favorite Kenshi moment is when I was mugged by bandits, but my dog and I managed to fight them off. I lost an arm, but was able to capture one of the bandits. I beat him unconscious and just started carrying him around with me to train my strength. When he'd wake up, I'd beat him senseless, just so I could train my combat. I spent about 4 days carrying him around as I mined to build my labor and strength skills. When he'd start dying I'd give him food and water to keep him going. Unfortunately he expired the fourth night. It may seem harsh, but the fucker contributed to the loss of my arm; he had it coming.
I bought and refunded Kenshi twice before buying a third time. I just didn't "get" it the first two times. But man, once I got into it, I sunk like 150 hours in. Now I'm sitting at close to 400 and I can't wait for the second game. Hopefully it won't take 12 years this time
So, a few corrections/additions on the leveling portion... (I am an absolute nerd known for my game knowledge so be warned) 16:34 You get randomly KOed at 100 - -KO point... As in if your KO point is -20 you will randomly get KOed once below 80 hunger. If you go below 0 hunger you instantly die. 17:00 Scorchlanders are humans and their hunger rate is 0.9x 17:34 You naturally clot so bleeding will stop on its own. The only time you don't stop bleeding is if you lose a limb and don't have a replacement/bandage/repair bed. Unless you mean wound degeneration. If so then yes that will not heal up on its own and does require a bandage/repair bed. Also, damage doesn't take that long to heal in the end tbh... 18:20 Dexterity is actually a flat value of experience like all XP in Kenshi but is also multiplied by the Stronger Opponent Logic difference between you and the target (Using your attack vs their defense), outnumbered XP bonus (Up to 1.666...x XP if fighting 1v8) and the cut damage of the weapon/total damage. So, if a weapon has 0.5 cut and 0.5 blunt, you'll get 0.5/1 aka half Dexterity XP. The weight of the weapon has 0 impact on XP gain. If a weapon had only cut damage and weighed 1,000kg it would give the same Dexterity XP as one which weighs 1kg. The tooltip in the game lies. 18:30 Dexterity increases attack speed with unarmed as well. Just not dodge speed. 18:40 Dexterity (On animals) massively increases their cut and pierce damage. 18:46 Perception increases as long as you are within range of a target while using a ranged weapon and are aiming at them. Hitting a unit has 0 impact on ranged XP gain. To add ranged weapons only really shred animals and in the early game. Vs Heavy Armour anything except an Eagles Cross/Springbat will tickle a unit. 19:20 The tooltips again lie. The real formula is if you have enough Str to use a weapon. If you do not, then you get +5% more STR Xp up to a max of 110% (10% from base XP gain)... The required Strength to use a weapon is usually 40x the blunt damage. The only time the weight is used is in the example of VERY light weapons. Like Nodachi having a Strength requirement of 8 as it weighs 8kg. 19:25 Str increases all blunt damage with all weapons which have any blunt damage. And both cut and blunt damage for unarmed. Unarmed is a weird formula tbh. 19:45 You explained Toughness extremely well. Usually, people get that one wrong a lot. Nice work. 20:44 I know it's 3 arrows but it's actually 5x speed. 21:30 Athletics isn't a combat skill 😅 22:00 Fun additional fact! You level Athletics slower if you give a character the "walk" or "jog" command at the bottom of the screen instead of the run one. 22:25 Def also increases your block speed. 22:33 Assassination is a "Thievery" skill... 23:00 Bounty Hunters don't look for escaped slaves. They look for characters with c.4,000 to c.35,000 bounties (Or higher if they have a certain personality). Of course, a slave could have that high of a bounty, but they don't hunt down slaves. 23:07 So true. Experience the game for yourself and you'll learn a lot very quickly. Very entertaining video overall. Just wanted to comment on those parts as I've spent a while trying to stop a lot of the misinformation in the community. EDIT: different -> difference And added a few comas.
i actually didnt know the 3 arrows was 5 times speed omg. like i noticed that 2x compared to "3"x was way slower, but idk i didnt think about it too much lol. also anecdotally, sometimes if you double the weight of a weapon with blunt damage, it does end up pretty close to the strength req. no idea on what, and its better to just plug in the times 40, but yeah
I sometimes listen to Strat's videos about half the time when I go to sleep (he's got a nice speaking voice), and the other half I listen to Warhammer 40k lore videos. If Strat ever made a video about actually playing Warhammer 40k, I would be so psyched!
I tried to wipe out the cannibals in the north area of kenshi. I was so upset that I couldn't wipe them out, I quit kenshi. Why? Well wondering the wastes is interesting, it isn't my cup of tea so much so as creating a story out of it. Randomly wandering from place to place with little direction and information to get started or keep me invested didn't really work, so starting out as one of the captives of the cannibals and eventually wiping them out was the goal I set for myself. Not gonna lie, it was a very fun journey killing them and growing along with the cannibal hunters, and eventually taking out the captains of the cannibals along the way. After that was done, however, since the cannibals were still their, I left, unsatisfied that my vengeance could not be fully achieved. Oh, and I think you start with 2 guys in the cannibal run, but the other didn't make it, They tried escaping together, but in the end, it was his sacrifice that allowed my other character to survive.
"Try turning all the sliders up to max" Oh boy. Squads of millions, Regular dismemberment, VERY quick death, there are bandits and feral dogs every two steps. Can absorb knowledge and build a house in about an hour, and a single slice of bread will last you long enough to build fifty. Good times.
Strat brother im glad your doing better I was watching some older videos and the heart problems you was having I'm just glad you sound like your still doing good man.
An inspiration for those who left it and a taste of what could be for those who have yet to try it. I had to keep reminding myself that this is your story, it flowed so well it felt like a baked in playthrough. Amazingly well done.
just want you to know, you are fantastic at this type of video. I love how you bounce back and forth between narrating and guiding. need a whole snooty video series now i’m too invested
Huh. Nearly 2h video and it didnt feel that way. Well done on the video! I really liked how you made a story out of it, instead of just listing things of. Hats off to you good sir
one thing I love about Kenshi is how every content creators videos about it, end up weirdly unique, even though it's the same game. Just compare Strat's video and the one from Warlockracy.
Hey Strat! I'm just starting with the video like the religious watcher I am. I wanted to mention that I thought of you the other day when I was playing Quasimorph. I feel that game's up your alley and I'd love to see you cover it some day 😊
My first character in kenshi was a drone bug man named GlikGlaks who accidentally wandered too far from the hive and started getting hallucinations that turned into sentience and emotions going from a mindless drone to a goofy, insane bug man.
It's such a great game but yeah it's a big time commitment haha. Definitely not something you can just pick up and play for a couple hours here and there.
I picked this game for the first time a few weeks ago and it's definitely something. After a learning run with The Wanderer, I went and made a save with the Slaves start. Honestly, that was one of the coolest starts to a game I've ever experienced. I had to earn my freedom, but eventually Conan (my char) got out and was actually quite jacked, perfect for that RP!
starting off as a slave is secretly kenshi's easy mode, no joke. once you get out your character is competent at least in lockpicking, probably has relatively high toughness, maybe even some decent stealth. and you don't have to worry about starving to death or even having to worry about finances
STRAT I JUST WANNA LET YOU KNOW!!!! I saw this video was posted and walked back and forth across my living room freaking out :D Thank you so much and I hope you had a great time playing a game I barley stuck my toes in.
This is so odd.. I was JUST thinking about picking Kenshi back up today after having not played it or even thought about it in years.. and here you are lol.
I have 700 hours in this game, done many playthroughs. Absolutely one of my all-time favourites, I even learnt some modding for it and made my own mods and patches, something I've never done with any other game.
1:25:25 Tip I learned in my playthrough: you don't have to break down the research bench after level 2 (but you do to get from level 1 > 2), you can use the "upgrade" option in the bottom-left after clicking the bench
I like to push the slider up that increases the quantity of roaming groups, and adjust the slider down that controls the size of the groups. It's more fun for small group or solo play.
Ohh hell yeah, a new Strat video! Gonna level in Classic Fresh WoW while I listen to this! Edit: Also congrats on joining the Wh40k fam (despite you playing Tau ;P)!
I've never heard of this game outside of your vids, but I find this video completely enthralling. Your content is some of the best on UA-cam, please never stop Strat.
Since you are into Warhammer 40K. I gotta tell you, Kenshi is the Age of Strife simulation in my head canon. Think about it; Kenshi has remnants of advanced technology, but most of it is lost, much like the Age of Strife in 40k, where humanity's once-great technological advancements were forgotten or destroyed. Kenshi could even represent a backwater world left behind during the Age of Strife, possibly rediscovered during the Great Crusade but deemed too damaged or irrelevant to re-integrate into the Imperium.
This was actually such a great video, blending a guide into a narrative that kept me hooked - AND inspired me to re-install Kenshi after dabbling a few years ago. Great stuff!
Great video man, really liked it. I've watched tons on Kenshi playthroughs and this is one of the best(Also your Elder Scrolls videos are top tier). I never thought I would actually play it, then I finally did and I love it. There is just something about the world that really pulls me in, gotta love the Sci-fi/ninja/western/post-post apocalyptic vibe it has. Honestly idk why but the world reminds me of Morrowind for some reason. When you brought up Elder Scrolls to compare how skills work I realized of cool and Elder Kenshi/Kenshi Scrolls game or overhaul mod would be, just not by current Bethesda, they would find a way to frack it up especially with their current lead writer. Honestly Kenshi Scrolls would be really cool the skeletons could be represented by the Dwemer so you would still have some long gone ancient advanced civilization vibes going on. Anyways I really hope you make a second video on Kenshi at some point to continue the story of wiping out the Holy Nation.
Small detail about toughness, getting eating alive by fogmen increases your toughness extremely fast, and losing a limb in this way will cause it to jump several levels... you just need to survive for it to make a meaningful difference.
I've done this alot, I'd allow a guy to get captures and have a guy strong enough to break him out before death. If you open the stats window while they are getting ate you can see that green line zip across and the number go up real fast
Considering I own well over 50,000 points of Tyranids, I fully understand bankruptcy for it. I was forced to sell my firstborn to GW just to start my army.
strange coincidence (not that anyone cares) Just bought the new Stalker game, and the estimated download time is the exact duration of your Vid....crazy
@@StratEdgyProductions still loading....but I too heard it was the right combination of Slav-Jank and straight up genius.... I will update once I played it (so likely tomorrow....some people got to work, you know ;) )
@@StratEdgyProductions As promised, the update: its fking hard, the general vibes are strangley Fallout/Bioshock (and of course the og stalker) haven't played That much, but got trough the prologue, and a couple side missions.....honestly its not to bad.... one thing that "bothers" me (as in, not a game killer) is that everyone seems to have a british accent? but all in all (as far as I played it) really not a bad game....the default key mapping however, i find to be...lets say difficult :D have a good one, greetings from Northern Germany ;)
One time, I became a hashish farmer in Kenshi. I started by smuggling weed from the swamps and selling them for a higher price, and ended up with a pretty well-functioning, almost self-sufficient plantation. Great game!
I have a great adventure with a mod of kenshi, My character was a skeleton who started the game with a special dog, he had much more strength potential, so I slowly trained him as well as took care of him, slowly not only becoming the goal of the game to take care of the dog, but the character himself. The skeleton ceased to be the vagabond who simply walked the earth for no reason thanks to the dog, the dog's needs became his, it gave him a reason to live another day, a reason to move.
That's really not too far from Skeleton lore. Most of them have no real cause, I'd equate it to the opposite of being human; they're made with a purpose and over time that purpose changed and then was lost, not only just physically but structurally having what they were made for no longer existing. Most of them seem to be "filling that void" with *whatever* they can find. Even the king of the ashlands exists for that sole purpose, he wants his empire to come back one day, and in the meantime is just waiting until that time comes so he can do his task he *was made to do.* Whats worse is enough time has passed that their memories appear to fill up to beyond capacity and require resets without choice into what exactly they keep. That would explain a lot about why many of them choose to not move much, if you use that memory up you only get more by dumping *everything* and losing it all; which ties very well into a skeleton start.
I have this one in my library but never played it much. I'm too stupid to figure it out on my own and too lazy to watch an instructional vid and take notes. This was really interesting.
I fucking LOVE Kenshi, Probably one of the most criminally underrated games of all time. No two playthroughs are ever the same, The story of the game is the story of your character and crew and how they got to where they are by the time you're done. On top of that, the world itself is such a cool and interesting place to explore, with little nuggets of history about how things used to be in this crazy ass post apocalyptic samurai world. Thanks for shedding even more light on this wonderful game.
Welcome back!! Hope your healthy and I'm gonna watch this like 5 times, hope for more content or your should have a weekly Kenshi streams and have the viewers vote on what happens, that would be awesome, or have like a mod that connects then chat can control events
I'm one minute in, and yes. I've heard enough about Kenshi that i know I'll lose thousands of hours in it, if i can get in there. 90 seconds in, and i already know this will be the guide for me
I once verbalised out loud my plan for starting a new run as a slave (Rebirth) and how it would be good for me, while in a discord call. My friends were pretty bemused. 10/10 would do a Hashish smuggler run again
3700 hours and I didn't realize that the characters will eat the food with the least nutrition first. Thanks! Make more Kenshi content and I will return!
The more I learn about Kenshi, the more I'm confused that it actually exists.
if the multiverse is an actual thing we live in the only one where Kenshi is a game that actualy exists

I have 700 hours in this game, done many playthroughs. Absolutely one of my all-time favourites, I even learnt some modding for it and made my own mods and patches, something I've never done with any other game.
Excited for this video man!!!
This is one of your best, man. Enjoyed every minute of it and loved the storytelling aspects.
1:25:25 Tip I learned in my playthrough: you don't have to break down the research bench after level 2 (but you do to get from level 1 > 2), you can use the "upgrade" option in the bottom-left after clicking the bench
Dude I'm so glad this video popped up in my recommendations. Love when the algorithm pulls through.
I like to push the slider up that increases the quantity of roaming groups, and adjust the slider down that controls the size of the groups. It's more fun for small group or solo play.
This is absolute fire. Good job Strat
Strat Kenshi video? This is one of the games I've been waiting for you to do a video on.
Anyways I really hope you make a second video on Kenshi at some point to continue the story of wiping out the Holy Nation.
wtf i discovered t his game yesterday and was watching old vids and you just uploaded one. awesome
Small detail about toughness, getting eating alive by fogmen increases your toughness extremely fast, and losing a limb in this way will cause it to jump several levels... you just need to survive for it to make a meaningful difference.
Holy, let them have a nibble, carry your guy off, drop him, let them have a nibble. Sounds like a plan.
@@StratEdgyProductions rinse and repeat to mega grind your toughness and install all the skeleton limbs you could ever want... RRRREEEEEE 😂.
I've done this alot, I'd allow a guy to get captures and have a guy strong enough to break him out before death. If you open the stats window while they are getting ate you can see that green line zip across and the number go up real fast
aww man, I can't wait to see what unmitigated chaos someone like your esteemed self gets into with this crazy sandbox of insanity
Love max slider kenshi, try it again some time strat
I like to use the FCS to set some weak factions like cannibals and fog men to have a squad size of 25 to 40 😅
Came for Beep, stayed for Snooty. This is a unique and well-made video, stranger. Keep doing what you're doing!
My only wish was that Nick was here to witness the blossoming love story between Snooty and Silverback. I feel like he's secretly into Lifetime movies
Considering I own well over 50,000 points of Tyranids, I fully understand bankruptcy for it. I was forced to sell my firstborn to GW just to start my army.
You sold Horus?!
kenshi video, hell yeah
strange coincidence (not that anyone cares)
Just bought the new Stalker game, and the estimated download time is the exact duration of your Vid....crazy
Ahhh, nice. How is it, by the way? I keep hearing it's bad, and it just sounds like a stalker game to me.
@@StratEdgyProductions still loading....but I too heard it was the right combination of Slav-Jank and straight up genius....
I will update once I played it (so likely tomorrow....some people got to work, you know ;) )
@@StratEdgyProductions As promised, the update:
its fking hard, the general vibes are strangley Fallout/Bioshock (and of course the og stalker)
haven't played That much, but got trough the prologue, and a couple side missions.....honestly its not to bad....
one thing that "bothers" me (as in, not a game killer) is that everyone seems to have a british accent?
but all in all (as far as I played it) really not a bad game....the default key mapping however, i find to be...lets say difficult :D
have a good one,
greetings from Northern Germany ;)
getting this recommendation right after creating a skeleton with the trader background
Being here in the first 18 hours still feels like an achievement to me. Love this beautiful voice any time of day.
Would love a Kenshi endgame vid
Wow, UA-cam knows what I like 👌 Glad to discover this channel!
This is one of the best kenshi vids I've ever watched. Please do more
Yo I NEVER thought you would be playing this game, noice
I've played through it multiple times, 'beaten' it, and there's so many ways to play and challenges. It's so damn good, I love it.
Shoutout from new zealand strat! I play ultramarines
Excellent quality content for a game I find interesting but will never play but just watch videos of
This is one of the best videos I have seen in a long time, can’t wait for the next one!
One time, I became a hashish farmer in Kenshi. I started by smuggling weed from the swamps and selling them for a higher price, and ended up with a pretty well-functioning, almost self-sufficient plantation. Great game!
Tegridy Farms fr
I tried playing it and just ended up mining copper for my 20, 30 hr playthrough. Thankyou for making this video now I know how to Kenshi!!
If you ever did any more kenshi content I would definitely watch it. Just sayin.
I have a great adventure with a mod of kenshi,
My character was a skeleton who started the game with a special dog, he had much more strength potential, so I slowly trained him as well as took care of him, slowly not only becoming the goal of the game to take care of the dog, but the character himself.
Even the king of the ashlands exists for that sole purpose, he wants his empire to come back one day, and in the meantime is just waiting until that time comes so he can do his task he *was made to do.*
Whats worse is enough time has passed that their memories appear to fill up to beyond capacity and require resets without choice into what exactly they keep.
We need a part two
honestly one of my favorite games of all time.
strat playing my favorite game? hell yahhhhh
You did it!!! You finally did it!!!!!!!!
Welcome back!! Hope your healthy and I'm gonna watch this like 5 times, hope for more content or your should have a weekly Kenshi streams and have the viewers vote on what happens, that would be awesome, or have like a mod that connects then chat can control events
Kenshi is the best rpg for me. The only game where you can be literally anything you want to be.
I'm one minute in, and yes.
I've heard enough about Kenshi that i know I'll lose thousands of hours in it, if i can get in there.
90 seconds in, and i already know this will be the guide for me
Kenshis been one of my faves, still discovering new ruins 2000 hours in, do the follow up even without reaching the like goal!
Really entertaining video dude.
I loved my time with Kenshi. The way that stories just emerge is quite unique with this game.
OMG Srat-Edgy made a Kenshi video, and swung it outta the fuckin ball park!
Knew this was gonna be a banger. I’ve had Kenshi on my Steam list for a year. You just made me go buy it
Not first but close.
Strat uploada makes me happy !
always love a kenshi vid
I have been convinced for over a year now that when I get my gaming laptop the first game I will purchase and play is Kenshi Followed by underail
I once verbalised out loud my plan for starting a new run as a slave (Rebirth) and how it would be good for me, while in a discord call.
My friends were pretty bemused.
10/10 would do a Hashish smuggler run again
always excited for a new strat video
Kenshi is such an amazing game. I am glad you covered it.
3700 hours and I didn't realize that the characters will eat the food with the least nutrition first. Thanks! Make more Kenshi content and I will return!
