I think a big aspect of the Doctor's lore that you missed is that the doctor shares his madness with his victims. If you look at his addons, many of them show the hallucinations to both the Doctor and the maddened target. After joining MKAwakening, he started putting himself in his patients shoes in order to better understand their emotions and improve his understanding of them, and he would subject himself to his own tortures and therapies. This is why he wears torture equipment on his head, why he can see the Discipline red glow, the Order illusionary pallets, and illusionary doctors. Because the Doctor is torturing himself. It's even likely that the Doctor himself isn't immune to his spark, but rather is in a constant state of being electrocuted by it.
Just a little side note: the contraption on the doctors eyes are called eye speculums. Used to keep the eyes from closing during surgery or in this case so he always has his eyes on you
The Doctor is based off the controversial psychiatrist, Yang Yongxin, who tried to use electroconvilsive therapy to cure Chinese kids from internet and video game addiction (which makes him an interesting counterpart to Feng Ming, an esports player). Although, probably because of Chinese censorship, Behavior Interactive did not make the Doctor Chinese (instead African American, working for the CIA). Still Spark of Madness is one of the top selling DLCs, and I would not be surprised if this was due to Chinese players.
It's probably a mix of inspirations. MK Ultra did a lot of fucked up experiments during the Cold War with electroshock therapy and LSD to try create a "truth serum" they could use on potential spies so that aspect ties in well with the Doctor's backstory.
We talked about him in some of my psych courses! There are even people over here who support his works and think that there's, you know, nothing wrong with them. Insane, that's what I say.
That’s a lie. I’ve put several months into doctor and only until recently have I truly reached his limit. Part of his back story is inspired by The Stanford Experiment run by Dr. Philip Zimbardo in the early 70's. There was a fake prison set up by Dr Zimbardo to have cameras recording. Students were separated into 2 groups: Prisoners and Guards. The experiment was stopped at 6 days because of the brutality that was enacted by the guards against the prisoners. Dr. Zimbardo was the prison superintendent who was watching it all and never interfered, allowing the students to suffer. Some prisoners called it quits after a few days others stayed but many were affected for life. The experiment was funded by US Office of Naval Research. Dr. Zimbardo's goal was to study the power of roles, the interpersonal dynamics of group identities, rules, and behaviors that would be abbhorent to the average person. Even decades later he's said he wanted to see how power and anonymity could corrupt a person into rationalizing and performing heinous acts.
Im absolutely in love with the stanford experiment. Its crazy to see what a role, an enemy and a shroud of anonymity can do to a person. Or rather what they choose to do with it.
"Never interfered" is just not true. The guard group were trained by the researchers to act more cruelly and the prisoner group were acting. Moreover, the experiment had heavy sampling bias. The only thing the Stanford Prison Experiment proves is that when told they have to act cruel to do an experiment, male university students will do it.
@@RodrigoTheHappyDog From all the sources I've come across in studying The Stanford Experiment in undergrad and grad school and then later when more documentaries came out the guards were picked randomly and only directed to prevent any prisoner from escaping, and the prisoner intake and handling methods Zimbardo selected were well documented and in use at the time at a number of prisons. They specifically selected to simulate a prison as best as possible and strip all the participants' identities/individualities from them whether guard or prisoner: both had uniforms that all looked the same for each designated role. It was as the guards noticed Zimbardo wasn't interfering with their smaller and pretty abuse that they gradually ramped up their horrid behavior to the point where the experiment was ended early. Secondly, what kind of specific sampling bias are you referring to? All participants picked were male college students that had been screened for exclusionary criteria of any history of criminal convictions, mental and physical disabilities and illnesses, and drug abuse. All in all it did prove his experiment hypothesis right in so many horrifying ways,
@@Silvernite Have you read Thibault Le Texier's paper Debunking the Stanford Prison Experiment? It came out in 2019 so I wouldn't blame you if you studied the experiment before then. It's the main source for most criticisms of the Stanford Prison experiment, it goes over how the guards were trained and the sampling bias. The list of ways the guards were instructed is a bit long to go over here, but in short the sampling bias can be summed up as only sampling university aged males who respond to ads for experiments on prison behaviour, dehumainization, and the like. While they were vetted for mental disorders such as psycopathy and such, you can't screen for personality. Not that I think Dr Zimbardo would have considering his other forms of misconduct.

Fun fact the doctor was supposed to be Chinese because he’s based off a Chinese doctor, but since China didn’t want that negative attention they told Bhvr to change it or else dbd would be banned in China.
I only knew about the part where he was the secret doctor and torturing the people he was given but I didn't know about the part where he was a kid and tortured the other kids
Don't know if it was said but fun fact, the doctor didn't put that head peice on himself. Sometimes the entity needs to give some motivation, like the trapper with his metal arm spikes, for the killers to work for it. The doctor I believe is second killer to be used by the entity in this way. Others were ok with the circumstances, mentally broken, or the entity used the power of strong emotion to use them(Spirit, Oni).
@@brute1604 I guess its more or less speculation. Mostly because SPN is the first person I heard say the doc put it on himself. Fun fact the doctor was supposed to be Chinese because he’s based off a Chinese doctor, but since China didn’t want that negative attention they told Bhvr to change it or else dbd would be banned in China.
Fun part is china has a doctor named 杨永信 who do similar thing except he does not kill
Others were ok with the circumstances, mentally broken, or the entity used the power of strong emotion to use them(Spirit, Oni).
lol idk whether to believe you or SPN, he says he put it on himself. A lot of others are saying that too. If you have evidence id be very interested
@@brute1604 I guess its more or less speculation. Mostly because SPN is the first person I heard say the doc put it on himself. Everyone else I saw or talked to said it was put on him by the entity to make him do what the entity wanted
Edit:I got my info specifically from Pixel Brush entertainment on general lore about the game
Love this type of content!
Same
thank you! :D
He's by far my favorite character in the game. Strictly because of his skills he's easy to murder everyone with.
this makes the Doctor sound like the most badass Killer in DBD
As someone who grew up with parents who are in the medical field, the doctor is a character is someone who interests me and I haven't played the game yet and now im interested in playing the game all because of this video.
Me: Gets creeped out by over exposed teeth
Also me: watches anyways
The music during the "horror" or torture parts is pretty good.
The doctor scares me most with his background and appearance. I'm not kidding.
I hate doctor , he is a real evil . And I dont like him in the game like his laugh and power
completely agreed. I'm used to doing more sympathetic voiceovers for dbd killers.. this was the first that I felt angry haha
Well, hope you never come across me. I'm a doctor main.
@@gordonfreemaan OH NO . I AM A PİG MAİN BTW .
There are some Killers you can’t help but pity. The Spirit and The Hillbilly for instance. But some, like Carter... they don’t deserve sympathy. That man was EVIL, through and through.
My sister hates him as well because she’s new to the game and the doctor’s anti stealth play style throws her off lol
The doctor was first to enjoy killing but then clown came along and became the second
I'm not sure if I should be terrified or impressed by this...
As a doctor, I can't say either way, and that worries me
the Doctor has regenerated and they're new form is terrifying
He can see still because he always is looking at somthing interesting. Because if your looking at somthing interesting you dont half to blink and your eyes are moist all the time. Fun fact.
Someone should make a movie about dead by daylight
Absolutely. It would be pretty original
what about a netflix series
@chara dreemurr THIS IS SO SMART
@@brooklynskye2274 I’ve seen people make animated intros if dbd was a Netflix show and with the amount of story and lore, it would be a great opportunity for behavior
@@charadreemurr5121 omg how do u find these
Out of all the killers in this game doctor has to be the most mentally unstable even before he was apart of the entity’s cabal.
I wish there was a video showing his transformation along with why and how he has all the metal things around and on his body enabling him to use the electricity.
My favorite lore by far. Thank you for this
His story always makes me feel physically sick every time 😭
Fun fact the mouth and eye gear is the entity’s doing as he didn’t obey it at first
I love how well put together this character analyze is, and in the infamous words of Spooky Rice this character is a " Bucket of Fuck, it's a Fucket of Buck" honestly this seems like a good character perfectly design, not over stereotyped, twisted but interesting backstory only thing is that it's creepy as hell and literally looks like he crawled his way out the fiery pits of hell.
The fact that the back story is way more freaky than the design.
He’s like mid tier gameplay wise, but the concept, lore and appearance are one of the best.
CAP
Man, those drawings makes this video and story even creepier, WELL DONE, even I got little bit spooked because during watching this video, at the same time I started imagining him in real life, and if someone succees in this, you know have done a good job
His sadistic nature reminds me of Cioccolata from JJBA
And i simp for both of them
It’s hard to believe that people can be this tormented and that there are people like this
I don’t even play this game but I love these lore videos of yours :)
The fact that he cant blink. His eyes has to be burning
Please do more DBD killer lores. This was super interesting to watch!
Doctor was one of my first killers and by far my favorite though I’ve never managed a full team wipe with him unlike my first game ever when using the Pig
"It's gotta be crack"
Best line in the video
This may sound weird, but the doctors voice is therapeutic. I used to listen to an audio of his in game laugh😂
@Real Tom cruise I need a doctor😈
The good doctor does indeed look like he’s suffering from AC unity face
Late. DARN IT. I MISS OUT ON ALL THE GOOD NACHOS WHEN IM LATE. I’m currently binge watching all your RE vids 😂
He's pure evil....but I LOOOOOVE his laugh! He was my first killer. Also the guy is fricking ripped for a neuroscientist. Like....how did he get this jacked!!?
Also, with the Calm addon, I always read that as the Doctor himself loves the peace of the catatonic seizures for himself. Like he's so restless and agitated he needs to shock himself to actually relax. Still creepy!
Gotta get jacked to carry the bodies lol
Could you imagine if he met the twins? He’d probably want to experiment on them too
Me before watching this video: I can take some horror today :)
Me in the middle of the video: I WAS NOT READY FOR THIS
i’m dead this man cracked in 1 week edit: JUST 5!?
The drawings are like a 1 year olds nightmare
It makes it better according to me at least
Reminds me of the drawings from Pandorum
My favorite saying is now, "it's gatta be burnt skin...COVER IT UP !
Oh wow this came a lot faster than I thought it would
my girlfriend says the same thing
its 8 seconds in and theres already a doctor pun. this is gonna be good.
