What I love about Outlast is it has the most original and creative horror villains in both video games and cinema. Honestly think about it… The Groom, Richard Trager, The Twins, Chris Walker…
I think he sees the protagonist as a bad guy since they are a reporter who could spread the news of the wallrider to other corrupt people like militaries or other corporations
Ever since i played Outlast, the phrase little pig and Chris grabbing you for the first time always plays in my head. It scared the absolute hell outta me.
At least Chris thinks he's doing good, he thinks he's putting little piggy out of his misery, he probably sees the world as a horrible place especially after the war, seeing all the violence and torture, he's probably seen a lot of people kill themselves over it, and him killing them in his eyes is just helping them escape from this world, without having to go through the pain of killing themselves
Taking trophies from their kills is common with soliders. Look up what a kill book is, I've even seen stories of marines in WW2 taking the skulls of dead Japanese soliders as trophies, and FDR got a letter opener made of human bone from a solider.
@@singleplayernacho also he is chaotic good cause the ends justify the means, lawful evil means he belives that for the sake of good I'll break the law, but to Chris he wants to destroy it all if it means the walrider dies
Some serial killers are "duty killers" and believe everything they're doing is justified because they're doing good in the world. The taking of trophies is actually pretty natural for these killers because they see it as a reminder of them conquering over the bad guy, who deserved what he got because he was, well, bad. A lot of soldiers are known to have this mentality after they've been through really intense warfare.
7:20 This dude is 100% chaotic evil. Committing evil with the goal of stopping evil is still evil. He might be lawful if he has rules of engagement that he follows but as a force of nature murderer who just wants to murder an evil worse than himself, he's still very evil and very chaotic. That's just my opinion tho.
Chaotic evil means a person just want to see the world's burn. Chris is more like a chaotic neutral or even chaotic good guy, his goals is to keep the walrider inside the asylum. You do know that morality is based on what inside a person head rather than the action, right?
Regarding Quote 1# Red on Red. When I was growing up my dad suffered from PTSD (not from the military or war, but from being a health worker, homeless and experiencing violence). What I've learned from growing up with him is that sometimes when you get PTSD every negative emotion can become anger instead. Fear? Anger. Sadness? Anger. Anger? Anger. And so on. I think most of what you said could be true, but I also believe that it's possible he could be reliving Afghanistan in his head and therefore he may also be scared, as one would be and as he definitely was back then. The fear converts to anger and the anger converts him to the killing machine he is. He may think he's still on the battlefield, especially since he seems/is psychotic as well, the two conditions may have combined and he may be experiencing flashbacks, hallucinations as well as reliving the events simultaneously. That's just my own theory based on my own experience with the disorder and mental health over the years, could even be that Chris's backstory isn't even as deep as we're making it, that he's just there to be creepy and they only did minimal backstory work while us players are filling in the rest.
Another thing, Chris worked for Murkoff during his whole killing spree and the "detectives" actually work for Murkoff as well. They blamed the murders on another guy named Omar I believe and then they took him to Mount Massive to be experimented on. I believe the first part is about him actually thinking that even though he is killing the inmates to keep the Walrider from escaping, he doesn't think that his killings are justified. Just gonna add another part now that I am done watching the video, the quote "I'm coming you won't have to kill yourself." is actually said after the part where Miles gets blown up while being chased by Chris Walker during the Prison Block chapter, I think in his head he believes that Miles tried to kill himself even though it was just chance.
Agreed 👍 I didn't really see him as a bad guy he was just trying to stop the walrider so in a weird way I feel sorry for all the stuff he went through because of murcoff corporation.
@@ismaelgingles9409 Ikr, well said. I mean, Murkoff used him as a guinea pig in an experiment that destroyed his sanity. He had trauma. His co-workers made fun of him and he was still a nice guy before the events of "Outlast", but not for long. I think one of the only ones who were cruel because they liked it were: Rick Trager and Frank Manera.
i feel like chris calls the player “little pig” because he wants to be our friend , but his mind is overcome with PTSD that he doesn’t really know anything other than trauma and blood and that’s why he kills people and says he can “make the pain stop” because he’s in so much pain himself , that he feels that if he kills other people maybe it’ll help him heal. i feel like he just wants help but he can’t really ask for help ??? some of the stuff he says makes me think he’s aware of what he’s doing , and since he was in war he maybe uses military techniques as a way to cope ? cause i’ve heard PTSD is really intense and in the real world most veterans have trouble going back to civilian life so like i guess chris’ way of coping with being a civilian and having PTSD was to kinda give into his bloodlust cause it made him feel like he was in war again. idk i’m just throwin out ideas
He is actually protecting people since he is trying to stop the wallrider from getting a new host. If the wallrider gets a host either everyone will die or everyone will suffer.
Imagine walrider escaping mount massive asylum, he really wants to contain the walrider there and i feel like the only solution that he knows is killing those people at the asylum so walrider won't have anymore host. He wanted that thing to die but he got killed instead.
Oh man. Its been a little while since ive seen gameplay of outlast, or played it myself and i don't think i fully grasped the story because i kept dozing off and missing parts of the story. The ending about the player being the host and his actually rather empathetic tone when saying "you don't have to kill yourself" hits really deep... like... dang dude.
@@singleplayernacho haha there’s only a couple more mods. I believe they are GeneralWhiskey, Exoticsz and Kirito. Also I have a THEORY. What if Chris is only super mad because the detectives took his little pig toy and he’s searching for it, hence why he said “You were here weren’t you, little pig” because he thinks that his toy was there 😂
Chris's motives were good and noble, but his methods were what made him the bad guy. Yet at the same time, what works so well about this story is that there really is no good or evil beyond Murkoff. Chris was trying to prevent the Walrider's escape the only immediate way he knew how. The story really shows that in such an emergency, morality may have completely gone out the window, or rather the only moral answer in Chris's mind was to kill the few to save the rest.
I was just playing outlast and Chris said this, “I just want to help you.” Do you know what that means? That might not have been the exact words, but I think it was close.
Very interesting video! I only ever knew a few of the lines he said in the game, so being able to hear his other dialogue was nice. Recently found your channel, I quite like it. I look forward to watching your other videos!!! :D
Chaotic Neutral; at least, in D&D. Most insane are considered CN, as they can't really be held responsible for actions taken. Unless they're a monster like The Joker, a well-written insane character will doubt and regret their actions in lucid moments, even if they can;t keep themselves from repeating a cycle.
by far the high point of outlast was it's villains. For me, all the scares and the gore and the chases weren't nearly as terrifying as the fact that they were committed by very believable and lifelike characters with real motivations.
I feel like qoute 3 is more so also what he went thru in the asylum as well. The things they did to him to make him how he was. It probably parallels what he’s done before as well
Chris Walker is just an example of how destructive and dangerous it is if a weapon were handle to the wrong person. Chris Walker Himself is a living weapon, it is welded by his Wicked and Insane mind.
Really awesome video! I never saw him this way but after your analysis, I could totally believe he thought he was doing what was right. Please continue this series! Would love to see your views on Val, Marta and Knoth from the second game.
Chris seems to have completely healthy coping mechanisms to manage his PTSD; A source of comfort during episodes, spiritually, and a higher purpose. Really he's a Markov mental health treatment success story, they should've let him go. RIP Teddy Bear.
I think Chris' ultimate goal was to literally rid the Walrider of any hosts, not save everyone by sparing them of suffering. His "purpose" in his mind was a huge containment protocol, one that starts by eliminating the Walrider's ability to survive. Same principle as burning the fuel for a raging fire, before it spreads. It's all a protocol. As for the other lines, it's most likely a mish-mash of trauma and insanity from both his past and Murkoff's exploits.
His obsession with even Miles Upshur of all people made sense. He has the foresight and planning to realize Miles was probably going to become the Walrider (or the host). If Trager out of anyone else knew about us, what we were doing, and our involvement with Father Martin (and Father Martin's goals), then Chris Walker who was the first person to see us (and stalks us for much longer) most definitely could tell that MIles was becoming the perfect host for the Walrider. Miles learned, read about, or witnessed firsthand (or fell victim to) more than enough of the horrors and proximity to madness needed to activate the Morphogenic Engine, and Chris had to know that Father Martin INTENDED Miles to be a "Witness". Father Martin wanted to unleash the Walrider. I do not doubt for a minute that Chris did what he felt he had to do, and he knew everyone in that facility either couldn't be saved or wasn't worth saving or were otherwise to far gone. The only exception, the only person who might could and should have escaped, was Waylon Park and even he could be considered debatable because for all Chris knew he was just another scumbag who got screwed over by the company (but still a scumbag no less to him, and in the end, Waylon DID escape and Chris only chased him down once.
They need to make a Outlast game based on Chris Walker where you play as him. The game could be based on mental health and could start during the war or even after with flashbacks. It could show the struggles he went through and what he went through in Mount Massive Asylum.
Hearing his final screams kind of puts me at an unease not gonna lie its always strange seeing something like that feel genuine fear for their life and hearing it

This is what I imagine Doomguy’s thoughts sound like.
Prior to the Divinity Machine, it was actually kind of similar to that, if you see the cutscenes in Eternal where he talks
I think he sees the protagonist as a bad guy since they are a reporter who could spread the news of the wallrider to other corrupt people like militaries or other corporations
"Little pig" like when the big bad wolf asks to be let in
Ever since i played Outlast, the phrase little pig and Chris grabbing you for the first time always plays in my head. It scared the absolute hell outta me.
5:27 I think he says ''Enhanced biometrics'', not ''Enhanced by metrics''.
At least Chris thinks he's doing good, he thinks he's putting little piggy out of his misery, he probably sees the world as a horrible place especially after the war, seeing all the violence and torture, he's probably seen a lot of people kill themselves over it, and him killing them in his eyes is just helping them escape from this world, without having to go through the pain of killing themselves
chris technically is doing good, he is killing everyone to stop people from becoming the walriders host so it cant leave mount massive

Hm I’m not so sure about the hero mentality why would he bring back “trophies” if he believed himself of being a higher power and saving the world
Hm. Fair enough 🙏
this is Chris Redfield when he's sister don't marry Leon 😂

This dude is 100% chaotic evil.
Walrider is chaotic evil

Yes, I know I am one year late.
@@djinsh626 I mean his actions show that he is ruthless , bloodthirsty , merciless and really angry. Thats part of his morality too.
I'd think he's chaotic evil, doing evil to destroy evil in the process.
So he’s like an anti hero. He wants to stop the real evil, but by killing everyone. Damn
*Walker's story is very sad. No man should suffer what he has suffered and become literally a monster.*
He has a very relaxing voice
I like that tiny thud in asterisks when Chris got slammed into the wall. It's very important 😟🥺🧸
Dude everytime you upload a video like this where you explain a lore of a video game character my blood pressure goes high
i feel like chris calls the player “little pig” because he wants to be our friend , but his mind is overcome with PTSD that he doesn’t really know anything other than trauma and blood and that’s why he kills people and says he can “make the pain stop” because he’s in so much pain himself , that he feels that if he kills other people maybe it’ll help him heal. i feel like he just wants help but he can’t really ask for help ??? some of the stuff he says makes me think he’s aware of what he’s doing , and since he was in war he maybe uses military techniques as a way to cope ? cause i’ve heard PTSD is really intense and in the real world most veterans have trouble going back to civilian life so like i guess chris’ way of coping with being a civilian and having PTSD was to kinda give into his bloodlust cause it made him feel like he was in war again. idk i’m just throwin out ideas
@colorado121 it was just an idea , i’m new to the lore stuff. throwing a different approach to it , though it may be wrong🤷🏻♀️.
He is actually protecting people since he is trying to stop the wallrider from getting a new host. If the wallrider gets a host either everyone will die or everyone will suffer.

R.I.P teddybear man. Aside from Eddie, Chris would've been a great guy if he wasn't so psychotic and messed up.
When he says red on red i used to see it as some sort of flashback to possible accidental friendly fire in Afghanistan
I like Chris Walker, he's very well written, it's just sad some people baby a character who would rip your head off when no hesitation.
RIP Chris Walker he what is insane but he tried to prevent the wall rider from taking over miles
Joker is in between Chaotic Evil to Lawful Evil in my opinion, not necessarily Neutral Evil either.
Now that I saw this prospective he is actually the good guy. He is like a distorted doom slayer...

by far the high point of outlast was it's villains.

Thank you so much for the Outlast video. Truly
Hearing his final screams kind of puts me at an unease not gonna lie its always strange seeing something like that feel genuine fear for their life and hearing it
I think the reason why he’s like that maybe he had seen someone killing a pig in Afghanistan is ther even pigs in Afghanistan? I don’t know what I know that they have good bread you gotta try afghani bread
Hey friend 🙏 and that was a connection I talked about but didn’t include (def not knowledgeable about Afghanistan customs) but it’s possible. Most definitely ordering afganhi bread.
Why would there be pigs in Afghanistan? It’s haram to even be near pork at all, so that’s highly unlikely.
