With respect for the Sheriff and the man Buford Pusser. I saw the Joe Don Baker film when it was released. I bought Eddie Bond's record 1977 but have never heard this ballad before. Thank you very much for posting. A lawman and gun-shop owner I know incidentally owned the Eddie Bond record. We spent a lot of time talking about the importance of not giving up. And the thing that would make anyone finally give in: grief. RIP Mr. Pusser.

That's very interesting wyatterp49: do you know how he came to write a song about Buford Pusser and what year this was recorded?

Interesting song, although the guy seems to have seen the movie and doesn't know any actual facts. There was no place called "the Lucky Spot," Buford never worked at his daddy's lumber mill, he didn't crash a car into a building and then the town burned it down, etc. Lotsa fiction. But, makes for a good song, I guess.

Plus the Aug 12,1967 Car Ambush that killed his wife Pauline & critically injured him was at 04:30 am,the ensuing car chase/running gun battle crossed the state line into Mississippi at speeds of over 100 mph, and he wasn't able to attend his wife's funeral because he was still in the Hospital in Memphis?

So much misinformation in this song. Song is about the movie, not real life.

Lol. u just have never meet a sheriff like Buford or u would understand he was real life. Movies couldn't do him justice
