I’m heading out Friday morning on an 8000 mile road trip. I will be at the Kirkland temple Tuesday the 17th. It was closed when I passed through last year after Parliament of World’s Religions in Chicago. Super excited to step inside this place and see what I feel there. I was baptized just shy of 30 years ago but have been in active since my divorce 15 or so years ago.

One thing I think of when I think of the Kirtland Temple is what it all means for the future. A Strangite offered more money for just the Kirtland Temple, and yet the church paid the same or less for several properties. Some of the Community of Christ members were furious because they always, or at least try, to have consent of the general membership--a few felt frustrated at their own finances, with some saying they would have milked my denomination for all it's worth. The churches weren't always getting along. And today a lot of the CofC are former members who have a real problem with Latter-day saints. I remember when CofC tours took major jabs at most of the Latter-day saints. It used to be a major proselyting tool for them. They needed money badly, and from what I understand our church started helping them with the landscaping, but no one thought they'd sell the temple. So everyone was like what happened? I thought that was their crown jewel? And I was grateful that people reacted kindly and both sides reached out to each other, and that they seemed ready to have this happen and were all you know what we're lucky to have a way to get money and it's time to move on. I honestly thought some people were going to say, hey how would you like it if another denomination just picked up the Salt Lake Temple, stop trying to console us. So to me it was like a manifestation of yes those sacred lands in Missouri and the middle east are impossible to obtain for the descendents of Israel, but with the Lord it could happen. And that peace between denominations can happen. Sorry if in the past I was musing that aquisitions like this on this scale could never happen, Israel took over dozens of kingdoms with the Lord's help, what was I thinking? Now I'm wondering about how they feel about their land in Far West and in Independence. I worry about them because so many people transitioning out of the Latter-day Saint movement stop there, and those that were stalwart left that denomination for the Remnant group, so to me it's a Jacob-Esau thing--I just hope things work out smoothly in the future.

@@MeaganT-w9qThe Strangite member offered 100 million and the church offered 192 million for that and the other buildings. It was almost double! But having the brother from the Strangite church offer to buy it opened it up. The Community of Christ wasn’t going to sell it but that offer changed their minds.

I became LDS last year but soon after i met a major wall in my faith, i had people erode that light as you said and i almost completely lost my testimony, but for the past few weeks i feel that light, that spark again, the longing and calling for a relationship with christ and his church. These videos have really helped me, especially your conversion story and the temple visits. Thank you David, beautiful video. I truly hope you have the best day.

      What a beautiful testimony. ❤️☀️
My husband was a rabid-anti “Mormon” and taught the lies and slander over the pulpit of his evangelical church for years, and he believed the lies to his core.
He ended up reading the Book of Mormon to prove it wrong to some young people he met and admired, and wanted to save from their cult… he had a sacred powerful witness of its truth.
He tracked down the missionaries and was baptized a few weeks later.
He talks like you did here in your comments about the richness and expansion of the soul with light that the Restoration brought him, and how he felt so much closer to Jesus Christ because of it.
Wishing you the best in your journey. Isn’t life an adventure!
      ❤️☀️🙏🏻

We welcome you with open arms Robert, I could feel your glow as I read your comment. My wife was Catholic and joined the church 26 years ago, as she walked to the baptismal font edge. She was overcome with emotion, she started to cry and said the Holy Ghost came upon her so heavy that she couldn’t hold back her joy. She said after her baptism that she had part of the truth, but now has the entire truth. She has never looked back. She has been a spiritual giant in the church. She was reading the end of second Nephi, the last two chapters in the Book of Mormon in the early morning hours, I walked out and she had tears streaming down her face, she said I got it! I got it! The spirit had testified to her that the Book of Mormon was true., And said I want to be baptized. Don’t hesitate Robert, the waters warm, come on in. ❤ God bless you my friend.

David, you are still such a light to all of us who watch your videos. Thank you for your unique way of spreading the gospel. I love your analogies. We all feel like the glow sometimes leaves us. As you continue forward you will continue to have experiences that will reignite that glow. They may be farther apart than you would like them to be, but they will come. I think it’s because we need to walk in faith more often than not. So keep up the wonderful videos. For those of us who can’t make the road trips that you can; it’s a wonderful ride that you take us all on.

One of my most memorable temple moments occurred in the Kirtland Temple. At the end of our tour several years ago, the guide asked if any one played the piano so we could sing "The Spirit of God." I play the piano, but asked if we could sing acapella just as the Saints did at the dedication. It was one of my most spiritual experiences, and I am so grateful for the feeling I had and for the testimonies of the early Saints, including George A. Smith, my great-great-grandfather.

I love the way you put this together. I joined at 25 years old. The first five years I was on fire. I went out with the missionaries a lot. One time I left the car for something and when I returned the missionaries I was with said I had a glow about me. I didn’t think a whole lot about it at the time.
Over the years I would start to feel burned out. Usually a new calling would revitalize me especially when I had a leadership position and what we call a mantle was placed upon me in a blessing. That was definitely a new glow.

Thank You David, this is David Hilton you helped me renew my faith in my testimony.
Things have been very rough for me,
my Mom passed away in Dec. Last
Year I have health promlems so I could not help my sister to take care of are Mother. My sister called me names and not good ones. She threatened me to dis-own me if I didn't come and help on and on! It was not my fault. I was physically was not well. She jumped to all strange conclusions thinking I was doing on purpose! My sister went on even after Mom's passing it went on even during when she was going Mom's house and stuff. Then a small miracle happened she started to mellow out. Now we are starting to
talk to me and she's starting to understand what I was going through. Before this happened I was getting bitter towards God. The Spirit told me that it was going to get better, now it is.
Thank You for videos it helped me to keep afloat this last 9 mounths!😊
    I Love you David.

Thank you for this beautiful analogy about searching for and retaining and growing the “glow” that comes with spiritual insight, promptings and especially spiritual growth! I’m 84 and still learning and hopefully growing that “glow.” I felt it strongly yesterday after a session in the Provo City Temple, I had an increased understanding of the creation that I’d been searching for years and also a huge “gift” which answered a request and prayer- these are all elements to increase “glow,” and I’m convinced we can lose it as quickly as we gain it if we don’t NURTURE it often, but what a priceless personal enrichment - eternal wealth, joy and peace! Keep your covenant journey growing, David, your mission is touching the hearts of many and helping to curb all the negative waves so prevalent online. ❤

Yes brother David I appreciate your comments very much about having that glow, that really hit home with me as you were concluding your remarks. I reflected on being a young missionary 54 years ago in Greenville Pennsylvania we're out knocking on doors one day we had been invited into this home of a young lady that was maybe a couple years older than us she mentioned that her father was a minister and for some reason I just started testifying to her and I didn't feel like I was actually the one speaking and there was a light in the room a light white light in the room. When we left my missionary companion said to me Elder your face was like a lamp it was lit up, so there was that glow that I could feel myself.

You DO have a glow!! I’ve noticed it grow starting at the Gen Conference visit and then when you went to the Manti temple your joy was palpable! It’s been awesome to see!Having the gift of the HOLY GHOST to be with you brings that glow even more! People know who we are! They see it! They just think it’s good skin! I have heard many say they see a light in us. Of course if someone has serious sins then yeah the light dims but that’s what daily repentance is for and if it’s serious then for people to talk to their bishop. You have that fire inside you and it will continue to grow. Every time you share the Gospel like you do you’re standing up for Jesus Christ! You can blow out a candle but you can’t blow out a FIRE! All of us help each others glow and we make a fire together we can make it! ❤
Also they re stuccoed the Kirtland temple long ago after the saints left that area the temple changed hands a few times before community of Christ acquired it. Thankful to them for caring for it for so long.

Spirit was strong once again and I love the connection and use of the word “glow” to the materials imbedded into the finish of the temple, the toil and sacrifice that took place to do so, the connection to the countenance and spirit there and there’s also a connection to all the great and marvelous, if not monumental visitations that took place there. May the Cardinals of the Spirit continue in your conversion to stay on the covenant path to Come unto Him. I have no doubt you will. Keep it up and keep moving forward!

Beautifully spoken once again. I felt moved to share a little personal experience that resulted from one of your videos months ago. It was probably the only video that I ever saw of yours. But I was very impressed with your calm demeanor with clear and grounded explanations of your experiences. You shared an example of how the cell phone influences our behavior in every day life. You had the presence of already being a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I liked your comments so much that I wrote them down for use in one of my Relief Society lessons to the sisters. So you see, you were already being an influence for Good in the lives of other people. I think I know what you mean. I was so full of that 'glow' when I first recognised the truth and committed myself. I was 19 at the time and not only had I found the Church of Jesus Christ, but more importantly, I had discovered that Jesus was so much more than a 'historical fact'. He truly is the Son of God, and He truly lived and died for us. All those Bible stories I had heard as a child/youth were not just stories but true history. Etc etc
I was buzzing. The Spirit was so strong.
It's a lot more quiet now, but constant. I don't think it would be bearable to live in that state of excitement all ones life. As wonderful as it is, I do think it would be too much.
I've been a member over 40 years now. I know the doctrine taught is true.
But as I matured I have learned that any church community who guides people to Christ has great value. I am no longer in the 'competition mode'. I think of the times the Spirit talked to me when I was a child in the Catholic Church and the Spirit I feel when I listen to sincere Born Again Christians etc. It's just wonderful to see the awakening that seems to be taking place, almost as if to balance out the wickedness and contention that appears to be gathering all around us.
I am so grateful for people like yourself who strengthen me in my testimony of our beloved Lord and Saviour, Jesus the Christ.

Please keep up the great work. We can't allow others to silence us when the truths we share can potentially enlighten others. Sharing our voice helps ensure our world is more equitable and protects the Freedom of Religion, a basic human right. I felt sad for the small gathering of students who others had tried to silence. Universities should be allowing all voices to speak so we have a more inclusive, equitable world.

Kirtland is such a beautiful sacred place. I had the opportunity to tour the Kirtland temple in June with two of my sons and it is such a beautiful building full of light. The amazing things that happened there such as the Savior visiting and Elijah coming to the temple to restore the keys of the gathering of Israel make it even more special. The Whitney Store, Emma a Joseph Smith home and other historic buildings and the ashery are also wonderful places to visit and many significant things happened there as well. Also The Morley farm is not far away from downtown Kirtland which I recommend visiting as well. Isaac Morley is my fourth great grandfather, he led the second group of Saints to Utah after Brigham Young. He was a member of Sidney Rigdon’s congregation and was taught the gospel and baptized by Parley P. Pratt. He was one of the first settlers to Kirtland. I grew up in Northeast Ohio (Akron) and we would pick strawberries and apples at the John Johnson farm (in Hiram Ohio) for the church storehouse, so it has a special place in my heart as well. Hopefully you will get to visit the Johnson farm where Joseph and Sydney had the vision of the three degrees of glory and where Joseph was tarred and feathered. The Spirit was definitely poured out abundantly in Northeast Ohio and you can still feel it there at these historic sites. Glad you could visit the Kirtland temple. Thanks for letting your light shine and not hiding it under a bushel.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the Kirtland Temple. I hope to visit it someday.
It has always touched me very deeply whenever I have read the various accounts of all of the divine manifestations that occurred there in the spring of 1836.
I'm also very happy that the church is going to keep in as a historical site that all can visit and learn just how special this building is, and the importance of all that happened there.
It's always a pleasure to listen to your videos, and so I always love it when you come out with a new one.

I really like your comments about the depth of “Mormonism” (sorry for using the defunct label). It reminds me of the following quote from Brother Brigham.
From the autobiography of Brigham Young
I continued my visit with the family for a short time, and when I was about to leave I told them that Baptistism, Methodism, Presbyterianism, Quakerism, Shakerism, and every other ism I had studied and learned, for I desired to know the truth, and found I could put all their doctrines, when simmered down to truth, into a snuffbox of the smallest class, put it into my vest pocket and go on my way; but, when I found “Mormonism,” I found that it was higher than I could reach with my researches, deeper than I was capable of comprehending, and calculated to expand the mind and lead mankind from truth to truth, from light to light, from grace to grace, and exalt him in the celestial kingdom, to become associated with the Gods and the angels.

I really appreciate your testimony .I started following you before you became a member. I felt you would believe in the restoration and Joseph Smith's testimony of the Father and Son and him translating the Book of Mormon. It is so exciting for me that you have found the True Gospel you have been looking for. God Bless you! And me too that I can continue to learn of others testimonys.

You’re such a great example of humility. When you said you’re learning more all the time, it reminded me of the scripture talking about learning line upon line, precept upon precept. Give yourself time to absorb things. Love being able to experience your faith journey. (Isaiah 28:10-13.)

@52churchesin52weeks Do you know how lucky and blessed you are, David? The thing that melted my heart about Rabbi Charnes (among many things) is when he announced that he was going to go to general conference again and then immediately followed with his humility in being able to do so. He recognizes that so many members of the church want to go and have never had the opportunity.

I visited the Kirtland Temple while on business in Ohio mid-March 1997. It was exciting and very interesting, but disappointed to not be allowed upstairs as my wife's cousin had been earlier. However, the tour guides were cordial and I left money in a donation plate. The real shock to me was the quarry... It was 36 degrees and the howling north wind from Lake Erie was frigid! I honestly couldn't imagine cutting stone all winter and spring in those conditions. I would someday like to return in September or October after summer's heat has past.

David, I love hearing about your journey!! You DO glow and I pray that you will continue to GO FORWARD WITH FAITH!! About 10 years ago my husband, daughter, and I went on a church history trip and we loved it!! So many powerful things happened in the places that you have been able to visit!! I agree that the stairs in the Kirtland temple are steep and I was glad I wasn't any older than I was!! The events that took place in that temple are SO sacred and amazing!! I am so thankful that we went and that our testimonies were strengthened!! Nauvoo is great as well and I am sure you will enjoy going in that beautiful temple. Be sure and enjoy all the sites in Nauvoo and don't miss Carthage Jail!! The gospel is true and I feel honored to be a member!! Thanks for sharing your experiences and knowledge with all of us! I am sure that you are helping many others learn of Jesus Christ!

I have noticed a difference in your countenance from your first videos. you talked about "a glow". there is a different way you hold your eyebrows, a different smile, even in your skin. There is a confidence in your expression, an expression of knowledge where before there was confusion, an honest confusion, not a critical confusion, perhaps skepticism, but not a degrading skepticism. Hope you never lose what you have acquired. Bless you, Brother David. Have Joy.

I visited the Kirtland Temple about 20 years ago. I was incredibly grateful that the Community of Christ had taken care if it so well all those years. I was blown away when they sold it back to the Chirch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I didn't think there would be a time in my lifetime that that would happen. I love the history of the Kirtland Temple. I am grateful it is still standing. I believe it's purpose was different than the temples we have now. (Of course, that could change, if the lord wants it to!)
I agree that a spiritual glow is maintained and strengthened by attending the temple. I am so glad you get that opportunity soon. 😊 Prayers, scripture study, and going to church to renew your covenants with the sacrament each Sunday also helps with that spiritual glow. Keep on with your journey walking the covenant path and making these videos. ❤

I love the paint analogy. Most people want their life portrait to be full of light and to glow. But we must remember that it’s the shadows, the darker colors that make the other appear to be greater and more appealing. It’s not just the principle of opposition that applies to this, it’s the idea that we need never be ashamed or afraid that the dark parts of our lives-whether a result of our own sins, those of others committed against us, extreme struggles with faith, or just the trials God planned for us personally-all are very important when painting our portraits and should never be hidden or painted over or washed away. They helped make us who we are.
Even though Christ was resurrected and received a perfect body as a result, He chose to keep the scars from his experiences on the cross. The dark colors-our physical, emotional, and spiritual scars-are something we should always include when sharing our stories with others and not kept hidden as though they’re something to be ashamed or embarrassed of, or regretted because they all contributed to who we have-and still-are becoming.
If wise, when we’re are resurrected and given our bodies then perfected, we’ll still have a beautiful and respectful recollection of that scars that we once bore and a special love for the shadows of our final portraits. 🖼️🎨🖌️💝🤗🙏🏻

Originally the Nauvoo Temple was designed the same as the Kirtland Temple except larger and with a basement for the baptistry. As the endowment was revealed the attic became the area for endowments and they had two assembly rooms just as Kirtland. When they rebuilt the Nauvoo Temple, they only included one assembly room.
One of the major differences is that the Kirtland Tempke was also used for weekly sacrament meetings. It was both a temple and meetinghouse. Several newer temples such as Manhattanand Hong Kong have multipurpose facilities as well..

Hello David. President Nelson's talk from last April's General Conference focused on the Kirtland Temple. His remarks really helped me understand the powerful significance of some events that occurred at that temple. His talk is titled "Rejoice in the Gift of Priesthood Keys." It's worth a listen and re-listen.

There are many critics, yes, those who would destroy our testimony if they could. Don't let them. While it is essentially impossible to maintain the same high level of spirituality every day, we can replenish it and should. That is done through prayer, scripture and gospel study, temple worship, service to others and living the gospel the best we can. Remember, when the devil whispers that we can't withstand the storm just tell him "I am the storm!"
