I am LDS very much enjoyed watching the Chosen. I did not realise the church was involved. It would be good for other Faiths to know we are Christians . I also think it is so big of the LDS people that were involved was more concerned about the wonderful message of our Saviour get out to a wider audience 🙌 Well done all for the Chosen
36:06 Dallas, I want so desperately for you to portray the life of Jacob (Israel) next. His story would be so neat to tell. For his story is all our story, having kids, broken families, needing God, wrestling with God… that would be so neat.
@DallasJenkinsOfficial - Great discussion and of course series! Is there a reason that you don't believe that the Book of Mormon is true? Have you read it? Do you believe that Jesus Christ, who was sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel, abandoned 10 entire tribes of the house of Israel (who were scattered across the earth), and only went to the 2 tribes in Judea? Do you not believe that Jesus Christ completed all that He was sent to do? Is He not the Good Shepherd who leaves the 99 to go after the one? It is my firm belief that in fact they too of all nations heard His voice.
Matthew 15:24 “But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
John 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
John 21:25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
2Esdras 13:40-45 Those are the ten tribes, which were carried away prisoners out of their own land in the time of Osea the king, whom Salmanasar the king of Assyria led away captive, and he carried them over the waters, and so came they into another land. But they took this counsel among themselves, that they would leave the multitude of the heathen, and go forth into a further country, where never mankind dwelt, That they might there keep their statutes, which they never kept in their own land. And they entered into Euphrates by the narrow places of the river. For the most High then shewed signs for them, and held still the flood, till they were passed over. For through that country there was a great way to go, namely, of a year and a half: and the same region is called Arsareth. Book of Mormon Title page: And also to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting Himself unto all nations.
Dallas, my whole family just listened to and loved your BYU Devotional about bringing God our loaves and fishes and leaving the miracles to Him. THAT’S exactly what we mean by works: God expects us to do what we can, even though what we can do is very small and imperfect, then God provides the miracle. We can’t take credit for feeding the 5,000, but we also can’t refuse to offer our loaves and fishes just because they are far from sufficient on their own.
This is wonderfully said, and exactly how I feel as a member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints. I feel obligated to serve God, bringing him my works as an offering in gratitude of his goodness and mercy, and my goal is to offer them more in joy and excitement to participate in His kingdom rather than just a feeling of obligation. I'm probably doing all of it imperfectly, but He is constantly patient with me, that's the whole point of His love, right?
Yes! This! We are not "working our way to Heaven" we are offering what we have and allowing that our Heavenly Father will make it more than we ever could.
As a Latter-Day Saint, I would like to add my two cents that I absolutely love The Chosen and God bless Dallas Jenkins for his creative genius and stamina in bringing his vision to the screen.
There are so many perceived differences between faith traditions that simply don't exist. I think the obvious answer to why The Chosen resonates with latter-day saints is because it does such a great job of portraying the Jesus that they know and love. How wonderful it is to see God working through his children of all different backgrounds to break down barriers and bring all who will hear to a knowledge of Christ.
Very true for me! I've always wondered how the human side of Jesus would have worked. I just couldn’t wrap my head around it, everywhere he just seemed to be floating on a cloud of smiling holiness. The Chosen resolved than mystery to a great extent. I may not agree with every detail of their choices, but they’re showing a Jesus that is much more believable because he’s shown as fully human but without loosing respect for his divinity.
No? You mean like LDS believing Jesus was a created being and Satan’s brother, but Christians following the Bible’s teaching that Jesus is God and Creator? Yikes. That’s huge, and there’s no unity in that. So, no, we do not believe in the same Jesus. This difference is a crucial one to acknowledge before pretending we are brothers and sisters. And not merely perceived.
Great conversation. One thing i would say is that as an lds member for 21 years one of the things that converted me to the lds faith is how personal the relationship with Jesus Christ and heavenly Father is. I have never felt as close has i have to them until i joined the church and started to learn of who God and Jesus Christ is. The beauty of the gospel, is that even an all knowing and all powerful God is he is relentlessly pursuing me and loves me more than i could ever imagine. He doesn't see me as a filthy thing that has no worth but that I am his and even at my worst his love is powerful, so powerful enough to bring me to my knees when i realized and ketch a glimps of knowledge of that love! This is what i have learned in church. Knowing who God and Jesus Christ is and the love they have for me has puch me to be the better version of my self and to love others also. It has motivated me to try to not disappoint them and i know that i always will but it is the fuel that keeps me going to keep trying to be better! I have felft the love of God so deeply and there is no words that can describe it but the closest i have gotten to that feeling, is the love i feel when i look at my kids and the love i feel for them. ❤
I love this wording "I stopped worshipping the idol of affirmation and legitimacy" What a great way to put it! I feel God's Spirit taking that plague away from me as well.
Again, I am a card carrying member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and I love the Chosen because you are revealing the character of Christ that resonates with who I have known Him to be through my personal experiences with Him.
In spite of the fact that you disagree with the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, I love The Chosen and believe that it is inspired of God. You are doing a great work, sir, and are bringing the love of our Savior to millions. Thank you for that, and prayers for your continued continued success. ❤️🙏
I am a life long, card carrying, member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I think you have nailed so many things that I love about the Savior. I have felt the familiar and thrilling witness of the Holy Spirit as I have watched the portrayal of Him in your work. Thank you so much. I think we need to focus on the living reality of the son of God and unite in the great cause of bringing souls to Christ as well as strengthening all of us in our faith.
It was so great seeing my two favorite evangelicals! I’m LDS and grew up in Colorado where I had Catholic and Baptist friends. I’m glad you are both so grounded that you’re accepting of LDS people. I absolutely love The Chosen, it is such a blessing to have this portrayal of Jesus and his disciples. Dallas’s Jesus is my Jesus! God bless and keep up the good work.
I am LDS and was one of Dallas’ extras on a few of The Chosen shows. I was very impressed with the reverence that was always in movie sets. I really love how you said those of other faiths should respect each other’s faith. Thank you for showing that respect, pastor Jeff. We all are trying our best to love our savior and the best we know how. I had attended several evangelical churches when I was young and it ingrained in me a love of God and Jesus. I am always grateful for that. Thank you for another great show.
Oh. ❤❤This is great. I can’t wait to listen to it. Now back to David Boice of “52 Churches in 52 Weeks. “ we are all patiently waiting for you to have David on your UA-cam channel!! ❤ Please, if you agree with this give Pastor Jeff a thumbs up now in this comment🎉
While I certainly would click on that video, I'm not sure what the conversation would be. What would Jeff ask David? Would Jeff care to hash out why David thinks his new affiliation is more right than his former? Unfortunately I see more battleground than productive conversation on that.
@@benjaminsmith6031 Hear hear! Also, you should know that while LDS troops made up 30% of Boy Scout troops, only 5% of abuse happened in those troops. There are like 10 reasons why the LDS church is specifically able to result in such a difference, in the troops, and within the world.
I wish there had been an LDS member invited to this discussion, like Jared Halverson of Unshaken. Because you are not LDS, its hard to discuss and ask the questions to each other what we members of the LDS church believe. I love The Chosen, because the Jesus you portray is exactly how He treats me as an individual. Thank you for all of your time and hard work!! My husband and I saw The Best Christmas Pageant Ever the other day and we both loved it!! Thank you!!
I do believe that the discussion would have benefited by having someone such as Jared Halverson, who is an amazing scriptorian and understanding person, who not only understands the LDS Faith, but faiths in general, because of his background. However, I think the intent here was simply to have the pastor's. point of view, and dialogue with Dallas Jenkins. I'm okay with that in this circumstance. Also, I do not believe that either Dallas or the pastor misrepresented the LDS church in any way during this video. Obviously, they do not have the same beliefs that we do in some regards, but I don't feel that that we were disrespected as Latter-Day saints.
I loved this conversation. The one thing that I feel he really missed the mark on was in his comments on why ‘The Chosen’ has attracted so many members of our church. I think he’s right about us appreciating the art, but his point about covenants is missing understanding. For those who haven’t made these covenants, it might be hard to fully understand their meaning and the profound way they draw us closer to Christ through covenant relationship. We covenant to take on His attributes. This relationship is intimate. One of the things I love most about our faith is how we believe the nature of God IS personal. He isn’t a distant, unreachable being; He is our loving Father, and Christ is our brother. I truly appreciate the dialogue, though. Thank you!
I loved the video as well, but worried about this same thing as you did. To be honest, I was waiting to see if anyone else would bring it up before commenting, in case I was completely off or if I misunderstood the dialogue. Since I can remember, I've heard at church, my LDS church, about how personal, one on one, our Savior is and how important it is to build that relationship with Him, to really know Him. I don't think anyone else has portrayed Christ on film in a personal way like Dallas Jenkins has in The Chosen and I think, as his LDS friends cofirmed, that is why the movie is so appealing and fresh to members, especially since LDS members tend to be constantly seeking that personal relationship. But in no way is it a new or revelatory perspective of Jesus to latter-day saints. In fact, I rewound that part of the video to listen to it again because I was confused. 😂
To add to my previous comment, I believe that temple covenants allow us to grow closer to our Savior and his personal atoning sacrifice. I was an ordinance worker for a while and just being part of that work consistently brought so much peace and joy in my life because of Him, not because of idolatry. With that said, I do understand the pitfall of just "going through the motions" and not keeping Christ in the center of it all. I think that's what Jenkins meant?
Right :) It wouldn’t make sense to say that someone isn’t closer to their significant other BECAUSE they made a covenant with them and were married. May there be people who don’t take it seriously or lack understanding about the covenant? Yes, but generally it should be the opposite.
For Evangelicals and Biblical Christians the only covenant that is important is Jesus' New Covenant which we enter in when we become born again and invite him into our lives as Lord and Savior. Our "saving" has been completely paid by Jesus' death and resurrection and that allows us to run full bore with God in our new lives without shame or condemnation. That is the point of Romans 8:1,2
Great conversation! I've studied art/cathedrals in Europe and studied Christ for 47 years as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. The comment that you made about religions "idolizing" Christ rather than following him stood out to me. What resonates to me about The Chosen is that it portrays the stories and Christ as a real person dealing with real life and makes His teachings more relevant to me. It's the Christ I have come to personally know that I don't find in many religious artwork.
Yes, thanks for trying to understand and be kind. We are pretty much regarded as Herdmans (shunned) by much of Christianity.... just not the "right" kind of Christians in the opinion of many.
I agree!! I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and will forever be grateful for your Christ-like acceptance. Kindness is possible including when we all have different beliefs!
Well, I would say Dallas shows way more appreciation that the pastor would ever dare to give on this channel. I have never seen him appreciate something good in our faith without contrasting it with his gospel. But Dallas is not afraid to admit he doesn’t believe like us but he truly can appreciate what we bring to the table. That is why I love his show.
Dallas Jenkins is a treasure. We support the Chosen because we believe in his mission to spread the good word and we're proud to work with people regardless of their faith, but especially because of their faith.
Thank you Dallas for an amazing story of my Savior. I’ve said many times to others how much I love your interpretation of Jesus❤ many other movies seem to portray him as aloof and stoic. I’ve always related to him as the warm, loving, cheerful character as portrayed in The Chosen. Your show has touched my heart on so many occasions. My favorite is the sermon on the mount episode.
I was on BYU campus just days after Dallas gave his devotional address there. When I saw the poster announcing it, I almost wept because I had missed the chance to see him live. Both of you--Pastor Jeff and Dallas--are doing such great things for Christ, and for positive, helpful ecumenism. We need so much of that, especially now, as Christianity is being given an ever-worse name, and Jesus is being denied by a growing number. God bless your efforts, both of you!
Thank you, both, for this frank and open discussion. As a Latter-day Saint, I do appreciate hearing this view of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and it is teaching me to be more open and frank about my relationship with Jesus Christ as my Savior. We are all broken and only He can give us His grace to be fixed or repaired. The Chosen has helped me to visually see His compassion as well as His commitment to God's plan, so that I can be more compassionate and committed to my Savior, Jesus Christ.
Great conversation! I have loved the Chosen. I’m LDS and the way Christ is portrayed is how I have always felt Jesus in my life. The art common to my faith is beautiful and inspiring but has not created a feeling of distance between me and my Lord.
18:21 the reason people don’t believe it is because they haven’t read it with an open mind. I don’t know how any follower of Christ could read the book of Mormon and deny that it wasn’t from him, regardless of how it was written, and who it was written by. That book leads people to do good. It does not lead them to do evil. Therefore, it is of God.
I appreciate this content! I dream of a world where we can be as a true "body of christ" regardless of our disagreements. There is enough wickedness in the world that we should fight against instead of fighting amongst ourselves.
As a lifelong active Latter-day Saint, I can comfortably say that we like the portrayal of Jesus in The Chosen because it is similar to how we feel about Him. We are taught to seek a personal relationship with Him, and believe He loves each of us personally, and The Chosen presents a very personal Savior. Thanks to Dallas for bringing such an accurate depiction to life. I wonder if Jeff misunderstood his Latter-day Saint friends because the only thing "mind blowing" about The Chosen from a Latter-day Saint perspective is how good of a job it does in portraying Jesus in a way that resonates with us.
I just want to say that I appreciate your dedication, Dallas, into making movies about Christ! It is so needed these days. I also appreciate that you admit you are “man” who can make errors and might get things slightly wrong but that you are giving it your all. Thanks again for your service, time, dedication, and testimony. I am LDS but also have a testimony of Christ and we agree on so much ❤
One of my favorite paintings of Christ, for nearly a decade now, is one of Him holding a lamb. When I face struggles that feel overwhelming, I picture myself as that lamb being held by my Savior. The Christ portrayed in the Chosen reminds me of that painting, and on a much broader scale.
I am LDS we know that if Christ had not carried out the atonement. No matter what we do would do us any good. That is a fact. But because of our love of our Saviour and our gratitude for the sacrifice we believe that the commandment we’re given to us to make us happy and to protect us. They are not just nice to keep but are a commandment.THOU SHALT NOT. THOU SHALL. LOVE BOTH YOU TWO ARE REMARKABLY PEOPLE.love the chosen. Thank you.
BTW The Best Christmas Pageant Ever has long been one of my favorite books. Saw the movie on Tuesday. It is so well done. Thank you. Everyone needs to see it.
Thank you so much for doing the Bible round table, I have learned so much from that being LDS. The chosen has by far improved my testimony of Jesus Christ as well as my knowledge of the New testament, especially given the new wide spread and as accurate as possible Jewish perspective.
God doesn’t do random! It is not by coincidence that all this is happening. It is a miracle! Just like you said God has got this. Just be humble enough to follow along.
When Dallas talked about his short film being about the birth of Christ from the perspective of the shepherds, the first thing that came to my mind was the musical called The Forgotten Carols by Michael McLean.
Great conversation by great people. You are both doing a great work. We appreciate you both. Can't wait to see "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever". I loved that book as a kid.
8:21 I think thinking we as LDS Christians think we are defined by our works is an incorrect assumption. We are children of God above all else. Works are to express love and we do them because we take God’s word and work so seriously. Not just casually. It feels ethical to be this serious about works.
I’m LDS. ..all my life. I don’t understand why Pastor Jeff thinks LDS people are drawn to the Jesus of “The Chosen,” because they don’t know Jesus as a relatable, personable friend …because “Mormons” focus on the works not Jesus’ grace. Just my observation, but I think Pastor Jeff projects what he learned in his theology studies about mormonism on to us - which I imagine was presented to a group of students rather objectively. …and likely not in a favorable light. From his recent apology regarding his former evangelical teachings about Mormonism - long before this “Hello Saints” channel, I presume teachings he received in college on Mormonism were of a derogatory nature. All my LDS friends and I love “The Chosen” and are elated to finally see a Jesus “in the movies” that we can totally relate to. 😊
I was not taught anything abouy “Mormonism” when I was younger… never took a class… never heard a lesson on it… basing my comments in this video based on convos with numerous LDS neighbors and friends. I know that isn’t a broad representation… but my thoughts are not projections of past teachings.
@@HelloSaints You know that the Book of Mormon teaches salvation only by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, right? 2 Nephi 11:39 RLDS (2 Nephi 25:20 LDS) "Yea, behold, I say unto you, that as these things are true, and as the Lord God liveth, there is none other name given under heaven, save it be this Jesus Christ of which I have spoken, whereby man can be saved." 2 Nephi 7:42 RLDS (10:24 LDS) And remember after ye are reconciled unto God, that it is only in and through the grace of God that ye are saved. Mosiah 1:108 (3:12 LDS) But wo, wo unto him who knoweth that he rebelleth against God; for salvation cometh to none such, except it be through repentance and faith on the Lord Jesus Christ. Mosiah 1:116-118 (3:17-18) And moreover, I say unto you, that there shall be no other name given, nor any other way nor means whereby salvation can come unto the children of men, only in and through the name of Christ, the Lord Omnipotent. I can't speak for pastor Jeff. However, I have seen his channel evolve greatly in the time the channel has existed. I believe we all have room to grow and evolve as human beings and room to grow in our understanding of each other, and of separate faiths. I continue to believe that what's important is that we focus on our commonalities, our shared beliefs, while not losing who we are. I think it's very important that we, as LDS understand what other faiths believe. Likewise, I believe that it's important that people of other Christian faiths know what it is that we truly believe in the LDS faith. Sorry, that's kind of long-winded.
Great interview! I've been with Dallas on several occasions and a background extra in Utah. As a fellow Evangelical, I feel his testimony of faith and surrender is true. He is always the same, no matter the situation. He is kind, humble, and dedicated.
I loved the Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Thanks for bringing a favorite book to life in a way that helped me to truly feel it. A new annual Christmas favorite.
I am so thankful for this video. I am a member of the church of Jesus christ, and I love the tv show #Chosen. I am so glad there are so many seasons of the #Chosen. Yes, indeed, the 4 books are true. I love them. Thank you, Jeff and Dallas. This show truly helps me try to always follow our Savior.
Love this conversation and love the work you both are doing. I’m a Latter Day Saint and have always thought Jesus was human in his emotions and that’s why I love The Chosen! I also believe It’s a Wonderful Life is the greatest Christmas movie ever. But I’m excited to see The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Cheers and God bless!
As an LDS member who likes hello saints and loves the chosen, I would like to say that I love that you both preach and believe that we all need to move away from contention and toward surrender to God's will and love! Thanks!
15:23. He has Jewish actors that nobody seems to complain about and they don't belive in Jesus, but they complain that members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are helping get it out to the world?
I’m a Latter-day Saint and thoroughly enjoyed this interview/conversation between two amazing Christians. You both emulate Jesus Christ by how you treat LDS and how you speak about us and others. We don’t agree on everything, but we agree that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and Savior of the world. I love The Chosen. It took me 4 years to start watching it. I am in AWE.
The responding to criticism section 20:54 of this is the reason why Latter Day Saints value the ordered structure and government of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints. Even well-meaning Evangelical Christians have a delusion of self identifying authority have become a point of contention and show the lack of unity, order and love in the church that Jesus said that Love would be the identifying marker that identifies his true followers.
Have loved The Chosen from the start. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I love reading scripture stories of Christ interacting with individual people and seeing His ability to weave and arrange events to our benefit. That's what the Chosen does. "Jesse" being healed leading to the conversion of Simon Z. is one of my favorite storylines. Gaius's conversion to Christ and his incredible faith makes him such an endearing character. I love what God does for us as His children.
Grateful for the kind, real &. loving demeanor of Dallas. FACT: I'm LDS & the way the kindness, joy, truth & power of the Savior that you depict--are not strange to us in our families. We don't feel differently about how you see him & portray his greatness , as the son of GOd. Along with his perfect humility in His works. And his mission in the flesh, on earth.Well done & not "strange" to us.
Another question to ask yourselves is, why can the LDS community embrace evangelicals, welcome them into our community, and even ask them to speak at BYU event? Is that ever a reciprocal situation? It feels that the two of you are trying to find common ground and maybe you might even think that we as a religious organization might possibly be Christian, which would be another unusual idea or common ground. I love the chosen because it portrays Christ with a personality that is relatable as well as the disciples as just humans striving to do their best. 👍🙌
It’s not true Dallas, we are all saved through Christ. We just believe that through our works and the knowledge we gain can exalt us to a higher place.
My question to both of you; If you are an LDS members and you are a producer do you think an evangelist church will allow you to accept your story and try to work with you?
I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and I have appreciated the chosen from day one. I’m sure that’s why many members like it. It’s about Christ and if it helps to turn people to Christ then all the better. I’m sure you have not read the Book of Mormon but in that it testifies of Christ I have often wished you could produce it’s history but since to many people think we are crazy and doctrinal misfits it would only bring joy to the members. Thank you for accepting us and not trashing on us. Jesus taught us,” love one another as I have loved you.” I am so grateful for all that you do. I am also an artist, sculptor to be exact and every time I work on a piece that has to do with Christ I am grateful for how it draws me closer to Him but I also am aware that if it is sculpted you have those that will imply that it is idolatry. That is hard to hear but for me it not. It is the talent he gave me and I like you use it to remind people of His love for them. ❤️❤️❤️
Wonderful to see this conversation. Just a personal view, the way that the atonement is starting to get portrayed in the chosen goes very well with the church of Jesus Christs beliefs of Jesus and his central act to redeem man kind. Thanks so much for making videos like these 🙏🙏
So funny, I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and my husband and I pray together at night like you described the popcorn prayers. I never knew other people did that 😂
Our family loves "The Chosen" and your new movie, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever." Thank you for this conversation about Christ and faith systems. I think many faiths, including LDS people, love "The Chosen" and appreciate all you have done because you preach of Christ in a way that is so relatable. I have a favorite scripture. Yes, it is from the Book of Mormon, "We talk of Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins." Our hope for our family is that our children feel God's love and know him. Our family has made watching "The Chosen" part of our Christmas traditions. We now look forward to adding your version of "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever Movie" to our Christmas happy memories as well. Thank you for this honest conversation and for being confident in Christ.
I’m LDS and love you both so much!! PS The best Christmas pageant ever is now my all time favorite Christmas movie. I hope it’s out to buy by Christmas because I would LoVE to watch it again Christmas Day. It had me crying like a baby… amazing movie 💗
Love The Chosen and loved The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. I really resonated with Jeff's comments about feeling emotional and convicted watching it. I then also borrowed the book from the library to read the original for the first time ever. Amazing, no wonder Dallas wanted to make it into a movie and yes, the casting couldn't have been any better. All glory to God..
I think I'm the only Latter Day Saint that hasn't watched the Chosen yet....I have no excuse but now I think I want to wait until it's complete so I can buy the whole series and watch it all in a week
In the world we live in Christianity is being attacked. More and more people aren't identifying by a faith, or are flat out atheist. Now more than ever we need to unite and build bridges of understanding between each other. Not create divisions. That is what Christ would have us do.
The answer to why LDS love The Chosen isn’t some grandiose allusion to art, but simply because it’s the CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints. We love Jesus. It’s that simple.
Having grown up in the LDS faith I'm struck by the "possible" conversations that Jesus has with his disciples in the Choosen. The disputes his followers had with each other are informative and powerful, and while not mentioned in the Biblical text, they probably happened. The LDS Church can't take the liberty to imagine these scenes because it knows it will be roundly criticized for it. The Church's portrayals of sacred scripture have an artistic paralysis. They are precise and exact but rather stiff and less spiritually intimate . Dallas has the freedom to cast those restrictions aside and imagine the "in-between-the-lines" that is missing in scripture. I am moved to tears at the end of virtually every episode.
Great conversation! I love that the two of you are uniting and discussing this much needed conversation. We as the body of Christ must become one, like Jesus prayed for us, to become one with Him and the apostles.. In the Great Intercessory Prayer, Jesus dedicated himself as the sacrificial offering on our behalf. In this prayer, Jesus prayed to the Father, that the Apostles would become one, like the Father and the Son were one, that we as their disciples would believe on the Apostle’s’ word, and we would become with them (like the Father and the Son are one). One thing I would like to address is Dallas’ conclusion that we as LDS don’t experience Jesus as a real person, but rather, as some unknown ethereal being. I would think that would be more of a challenge with Trinitarians who believe God is ethereal-having no body parts or passions, but rather being a vapor of smoke being everywhere yet no where. We believe in the Godhead Doctrine-God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirit being three personages who are “united in one” purpose, work and glory. Unlike you we are not Trinitarians. Our relationship with God the Father is He is literally our Father and Jesus Christ is literally our elder brother (and spiritual father)…which is more relatable than the Trinitarian notion of God being all in one. We believe that both The Father and The Son are the same species as us not different from us-that they have tangible bodies of flesh and bones like ourselves. So your idea that we take a “distanced view” of them, being apart from us, is a misunderstanding of our heartfelt personal relationship with our Father and our elder brother. Yes we do worship them (not as idols) but in spirit and truth.
...I was LDS for 39 years. I am not a member anymore but I do still believe in God and attend a local church. I have spend time to study and learn about the Trinity and I can say that most LDS don't actually understand what the Trinity is describing. They usually like to go to the "without body parts or passions". Have you read the Westminster Confession of Faith? or any of the Confessions? I'm not trying to persuade you to believe the Trinity, but I would invite you to learn more about what the Trinity actually is and how it describes God as read about in the Bible. The Trinity is an explanation for God based on scripture (the Bible). But not just one verse only. It's based on the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation. To be more specific. God "Yahweh" is ONE. Isaiah 43:10-11 "Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no savior." BUT there are plenty of examples of the separateness of God, like Jesus praying to the Father or hearing the voice of God when Jesus was baptized. Your example of the intercessory prayer in John 17 is a good example of how the Father is NOT the Son. So, how is it, that God is both only ONE and at the same time multiple? ie. The Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. Is this the "philosophies of man mingled with scripture?" or is this how God the Father and at the Son have always been described by the Prophets and Apostles? The Apostle Paul gives us a glimpse of this when he writes to the Colossians. He stated, "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." Colossians 2:8-9 So, in bodily form ALL the fulness of the Godhead is in Jesus. That is, only Jesus has a body, whereas the Father doesn't. This is further supported when Paul writes to the Ephesians 4:5-6 "One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." How can the Father be in us all if he is just another man of flesh and bone? Therefore, it's understood that the Father is a personage of spirit, just as the person of the Holy Ghost is spirit. This is further supported by Joseph Smith in the School of the Prophets. From the Lectures on Faith - Lecture Fifth section V. "We shall, in this lecture speak of the Godhead: we mean the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. There are two personages who constitute the great matchless, governing and supreme power over all things-- by whom all things were created and made, that are created and made, whether visible or invisible: whether in heaven, on earth, or in the earth, under the earth, or throughout the immensity of space-They are the Father and the Son: The Father being a personage of spirit, glory and power: possessing all perfection and fulness: The Son, who was in the bosom of the Father, a personage of tabernacle, made, or fashioned like unto man, or being in the form and likeness of man, or, rather, man was formed after his likeness, and in his image." (Lectures on Faith-Lecture Fifth by Joseph Smith, Jr. and Sidney Rigdon). Clearly the early church, Joseph Smith Jr. included, used to teach that the Father was, "a personage of spirit". Additionally, this is further supported by the Book of Mormon. Mosiah 15:4-5 "And they are one God, yea, the very Eternal Father of heaven and of earth. And thus, the flesh becoming subject to the Spirit, or the Son to the Father, being one God". Not only the early LDS church but all Christians from the time of Christ have believed there is only ONE God manifest in three distinct persons of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. In Trinity, the Father IS NOT the Son. They are separate distinct persons yet at the same time, of the same essence thus being ONE God in bodily form. Since the Father is NOT the Son, Jesus is able to pray to the Father and hear the Father's voice at his baptism. At the same time, due to the fact that they are One in bodily form means God is ONE and there is none beside him, nor before nor after him. So, the Trinity is a description of the nature of God that describes ALL VERSES OF THE BIBLE, both New Testament and Old Testament without exception. You may or may not agree with me and that's ok. I just wanted to shed some light on why Christians outside of the LDS faith embrace the Trinitarian view of God.
I love your portrayal of Christ-and truly believe the writing and performance is inspired-but for me, I love all the reactions and writing of his disciples. As we are all followers and bring to that discipleship all our diverse personalities and experiences, it’s so helpful to me to watch the various ways a person can be a follower of Christ-the way we respond uniquely to his message.
Jesus in the Gospels and Book of Mormon and taught by our leaders to me came alive in the chosen. This is how I have seen Him for myself throughout decades of my life with my experience as a Latter-day Saint. Of course He is the Son of God and Creator of the universe regardless. Thank you Dallas for your God given gift and being faithful and brave enough to put this out.
Dallas, when I saw your first film of the Shepard I felt the spirit and purchased your film. I saw your gift and your efforts to testify of the Savior of the World and his life and mission. I love you for your dream and gifts to create this amazing series. I know that whoever loves the Savior would discern the truths. We as members of the Church of Jesus Christ are coming from various religions to the message of the restoration. We are more united with other Christians and our love for our Savior and loving our neighbors. We have personal testimonies of what we have received by faith, study, and prayer and the Holy Spirit testifies to us. Yet anything that strengthens our experience to help us to come to Jesus Christ and what he could be like. You have created this message to us. Remember we are followers Jesus Christ is the Savior. Dallas I do not want to criticize or critique your decisions in what you are creating. I can feel the goodness and the message you are sharing. God Bless you and your family.
As a new nurse I worked at a Catholic charity hospital. I was assigned a "frequent flier" admission. When I walked into her room she said "you will not want to take care of me"....why...."I am not Catholic".....guess what, I am not either. Of your God says the moon is orange and my God says the moon is purple, we both believe something greater than ourselves. I think anyone that believes in and desires to serve our Savior is following the 2nd great commandment.
For this LDS guy, we love "The Chosen" in my house because it's good; very, very good. Jesus is portrayed as the Son of God, which he was, but also the son of Mary, someone who got tired, hungry, maybe annoyed, laughed with his friends, etc. So many of the videos I've seen over the years portray Him as this austere, super serious person who doesn't talk like people we know. Jonathan Roumie does such a great job making Him accesible and familiar.
I think Luke 9:50 is a good Bible verse for any Latter-Day Saint or Evangelical criticizing the other side: “And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.” In other words, more or less, “don’t worry about them, they’re helping too.”
I don’t think I love Dallas’ answers with regard to the LDS…right out of the gate he wanted to make sure people didn’t think he was also LDS. Then throughout the interview there were slight jams to the LDS faith and population.
Someone please enlighten me: what do they mean when they say baby blessings can get pretty intense? As a European with close to no Utah experience, I'm often baffled by things that are said about the church culture, especially when people focus on Utah. The baby blessings I've experienced here were by no means weirder than the christenings I've seen.(of course, my insider perception might be off…)
@@HelloSaints I think I just offended someone with my comment that was deleted. I apologize for my cynicism. Thank you for your channel!!! And thank you for this episode! I appreciate where your heart is in all of this! And I love the content Dallas Jenkins has shared! Thank you both!!
I was just reminded by your conversation with Dallas. I'm a big fan of the chosen so he's done a great job and even come up with some content that I had already illustrated in my own mind. But the way he portrays Jesus, it draws Us in and says that we can become like him in a greater detail than we fully comprehend. Again, can we become the father? No the father is always a father and always will be the father. The son is the son and will always be the son. And we are his children and we'll always be his children. But we can become like the first born in a more intimate way than we even realize and self-evaluation. Again, they're chosen. Does a great job of drawing Us in to that capacity. I look at the Book of Mormon which I embrace as scripture and I look at the third book of Nephi and I say there's a disconnect between Jesus Christ in third Nephi to the reader because Jesus Christ in there is a resurrected being a God and a more magnified way and therefore to try to relate to him is overwhelming when one thinks about it well enough. But in the Bible we have Jesus Christ who is fully human but also fully Divine and is more relatable to the human because of his human existence.
I think one reason we latter day saints are a little taken a back by the way Christ is portrayed in the Chosen is due to the policy of the church. In official church media, when Christ is speaking, the policy of the church is that only direct quotes from the scriptures are allowed to be used. I think that may cause us to view Christ as a little rigid and overly reverent. I love the way The Chosen shows Christ as practical, fun, loving, and with a sense of humor.
I definitely agree with Dallas over his favorite pick for greatest Christmas movie of all time (as it is also my favorite) - It's a Wonderful Life (1946), starring Jimmy Stewart. What is also interesting about Jimmy Stewart is that in 1980, in one of his last acting features in film (he would be in only two others after this), he was the primary character in a LDS Christmas feature, Mr. Krueger's Christmas.
You sound positive about your assertion and I am also positive that you have some scriptural passages to back it up. However, I claim ignorance when it comes to many passages in the Bible that seem to refer to a time before or after our life on earth. It is much easier for me to claim that Jesus is God and has a resurrected body of flesh and bone as tangible as ours. With that said, do you have a purpose behind your assertion in the comments of this video? I love the fact that the Chosen highlights the events from the gospels that all Christians agree on. Each denomination will disagree on points of doctrine, but that was not the purpose of the Chosen. We can be unified in our desire to follow Christ while simultaneously having doctrinal disagreements.
I have been LDS my whole life and I feel the chosen portrays jesus the way I imagined him too. I think everyone kind of has their own way they see him.
We don't want to make Him a ''bro' as He is so much more than that.. More as an honored and loved leader of our family. In His lifetime, He had a human experience, just like we do and from that frame of reference, it is valid and honoring to portray Him in His life with real relationships.
@29:10 min, I would say LDS tend toward a more formal or proper relationship with Christ, the personal relationship is felt to be rather formal, not so much "distant" but I can see what he is trying to say.
I wonder who these people are who Dallas is talking about at 28:08. That hasn't been my experience at all. I've been LDS all my life, and I have always experienced the Lord Jesus Christ in a very personal way. I have a real relationship with Him, and I always have. I have lots of paintings of Him on my walls, too. I think that latter-day saints are completely missing the whole point of the temple if they feel that the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints creates any distance between the Lord Jesus Christ and us! I don't personally like the chosen show, but I'm happy for your success, Dallas. And, I really loved your talk at BYU. It was beautiful 😍
I agree what Dallas said here was confusing and subjective. How is the art distancing? You can’t say you like the religious art, then in the next breath say it makes you feel distanced from God.
@natedawg2020 Good point. I don't understand where he was coming from. I have experienced extremely personal moments with the Lord Jesus Christ. He is a friend to me. He also deserves the utmost respect and reverence. I just don't see those things as mutually exclusive.
Could it be that Dallas feels Christ is far away in the LDS faith due to the rituals, prophet, apostles, temples etc. Compared to a Protestant view of going directly to Christ? Dallas does go on to state that later in the interview. Just a thought
@tymacdonald yes, that's a good point. I think the perception is that we have a middle man, so to speak, between us and God or the Lord Jesus Christ. Maybe that is what Dallas was meaning. If so, I just wish that he could see a sort of movie of my life. He would see how there really is no middle man there. I've walked with and talked with the Lord Jesus Christ just as I would with any mortal friend. He has manifested Himself in myriad ways. He has reached out and saved me when I was sinking, like Peter, in an ocean of desperation. In short, I know my Shepherd's voice. And it takes an intimate relationship to confidently say that.
I loved the video but worried about that part too. I'm a lifelong member. Since I can remember, I've been taught at church how personal, one on one, our Savior is and how important it is to build a relationship with Him, to really know Him. I'm just guessing here, butI don't think anyone else has portrayed Christ on film in a personal way like Dallas Jenkins has in The Chosen and I think, as his LDS friends cofirmed, that is why the movie is so appealing and fresh to members, especially since LDS members tend to be constantly seeking that personal relationship? But in no way is it a new or revelatory perspective of Jesus to latter-day saints for Him to be personable or relatable. In fact, I rewound that part of the video to listen to it again because I was confused. 😂 I also believe that temple covenants allow us to grow closer to our Savior and his personal atoning sacrifice. I was an ordinance worker for a while and just being part of that work consistently brought so much peace and joy in my life because of my growing relationship with Him, not because I worshipped the temple or covenants in an idolatrous way. With that said, I do understand the pitfall of just "going through the motions" and not keeping Christ in the center of it all. I think that's what Jenkins meant?
Loved this conversation!
Likewise, my friend. Let’s keep the conversation going. 🙏🏻
I am LDS very much enjoyed watching the Chosen.
I did not realise the church was involved.
It would be good for other Faiths to know we are Christians .
I also think it is so big of the LDS people that were involved was more concerned about the wonderful message of our Saviour get out to a wider audience 🙌
Well done all for the Chosen
Absolutely love The Chosen. It's seriously the best show ever.
Matthew 15:24
“But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
John 10:16
And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
Luke 19:10
For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
John 21:25
And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
2Esdras 13:40-45
Those are the ten tribes, which were carried away prisoners out of their own land in the time of Osea the king, whom Salmanasar the king of Assyria led away captive, and he carried them over the waters, and so came they into another land.
But they took this counsel among themselves, that they would leave the multitude of the heathen, and go forth into a further country, where never mankind dwelt,
That they might there keep their statutes, which they never kept in their own land.
And they entered into Euphrates by the narrow places of the river.
For the most High then shewed signs for them, and held still the flood, till they were passed over.
For through that country there was a great way to go, namely, of a year and a half: and the same region is called Arsareth.
Book of Mormon Title page:
And also to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting Himself unto all nations.
@@kaygraff1077thank you. Yes, we can never work our way to heaven on our own. Works, with the grace of God can get us back with God.
Dallas dropped the best BYU talk of all time. (Besides the best talk of all time ‘100% responsible’ by Lynn G robins)
And the jokes were unbelievable
Same, I am pretty sure we are going to be protestants now, made me really humbling question my 30 year old faith! Felt the spirit so strong!
As a Latter-Day Saint, I would like to add my two cents that I absolutely love The Chosen and God bless Dallas Jenkins for his creative genius and stamina in bringing his vision to the screen.
love this!!!
@@THEREFORMIST why are you here watching this then??? haha
agreed! Great take!!!
@theodelphia love this!! 🥰
Very true for me!
love this!!!
@ yes!!!👍
I think we need to focus on the living reality of the son of God and unite in the great cause of bringing souls to Christ as well as strengthening all of us in our faith.
love this!!!
Beautifully said.
Dallas's Jesus is my Jesus as well!
IT was a joke!
Loved your talk as guest speaker at the BYU Devotional on "Five loaves and two fishes" Dallas Jenkins🙏❤🎉
it was sooo good!

@@timmiestabrnak Perhaps you have been misled. I invite you to sincerely explore the Gospel of Jesus Christ and let go of preconceived notions.
Thank you!!
Exactly. Not sure who they are hanging out with to get our opinions!
@@cindymacferran331 ...just curious, what part of pastor Jeff's understanding of LDS teaching is not correct?
@ …what an amazingly respectful comment that was.
Totally agree -well said! Slightly offended at his comment- especially when he included the word “idolatrous”. Couldn’t be further from the truth.
Thanks to Both of you for not trashing LDS! Thanks
yes!!!
@ facts!
LdS here. watching the show… we seem to believe in the same Jesus.
I appreciate this content! I dream of a world where we can be as a true "body of christ" regardless of our disagreements. There is enough wickedness in the world that we should fight against instead of fighting amongst ourselves.
I am a life long LDS. Like the portrayal of Jesus in the Chosen. It is truly what I've believed he was like while on earth. Good job
Dallas you are doing a wonderful thing with the Chosen! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing a great conversation, Jeff and Dallas.
I enjoy Dallas's humility and open-mindedness and ability to stay true to himself. Not condescending nor divisive. Thank you, Dallas Jenkins!
Great video, Jeff and Dallas. I’m a Latter-day Saint who has met you both and am pleased with all the good you’re doing. The best is yet to come!
@@charlenecastaldo3602 I can't wait to see it! The trailer looked really good 😀
@@gwengold8154 It is wonderful! You will love it. Also you might want to bring tissue.
I read that book in the 5th grade. I loved the movie you did, Dallas! ❤god bless you both.
I am also LDS and love the chosen.
When Dallas talked about his short film being about the birth of Christ from the perspective of the shepherds, the first thing that came to my mind was the musical called The Forgotten Carols by Michael McLean.
Later day Saint here... The Jesus from "The Chosen" is the best thing to happen to the LDS Church as it brings a more personal Jesus to our lives.
Christ has always been very personal. I am LDS. HE IS. MY SAVIOUR.I LOVE HIM WITH EVERY FIBRE OF MY BEING .
@ what were the details of your theology studies?
@ …and then, how did your opinions about LDS people develop?

I have been wondering when this conversation was going to happen. Enjoyed the dialogue.
When you have a personal intimate relationship with Christ you realize the law is 100% essential to having said relationship. Mercy cannot rob justice
I agree... in that the law convicts us of our sinful nature - which, in turn, makes us realize we need The Savior, Jesus Christ. We look to Christ.
Hi Pastor Jeff and Dallas. Thank you for sharing.
What a great surprise to see this at the end of a long day! Thank you both for striving to hear God and moving on inspiration. God is good!
The Chosen is so special.
I was at the theatre this weekend and they showed the trailer for The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.
Such an amazing conversation and I am a Latter-day Saint. Thank you, so much you guys. Keep up the great work! God's work indeed!
Yay! Two of my favorites both in one video!
This was a great conversation, thank you for sharing this.
It’s not true Dallas, we are all saved through Christ. We just believe that through our works and the knowledge we gain can exalt us to a higher place.
My question to both of you; If you are an LDS members and you are a producer do you think an evangelist church will allow you to accept your story and try to work with you?
Beautiful conversation! Thank you
I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and I have appreciated the chosen from day one.
I never knew other people did that 😂
Same! We do it with our children.
The Chosen has really helped to make Jesus Christ very personal
I’m LDS and love you both so much!! PS The best Christmas pageant ever is now my all time favorite Christmas movie. I hope it’s out to buy by Christmas because I would LoVE to watch it again Christmas Day. It had me crying like a baby… amazing movie 💗
Worthwhile discussion
I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no savior."
BUT there are plenty of examples of the separateness of God, like Jesus praying to the Father or hearing the voice of God when Jesus was baptized.
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." Colossians 2:8-9
So, in bodily form ALL the fulness of the Godhead is in Jesus.
Love The Chosen!
Loved loved loved this so much!!!!!
Loved this
7:56 i wish we did popcorn prayers. They are powerful when everyone uses the Holy Spirit and doesn’t just want to show off
Amen, I love the church, but there's a lot about evangelical Christianity culturally that I envy.
Dallas isn't a member of our faith (the LDS church), but it sounds like he now knows what it is like to be one. 😂
I think Luke 9:50 is a good Bible verse for any Latter-Day Saint or Evangelical criticizing the other side:
“And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.”
In other words, more or less, “don’t worry about them, they’re helping too.”
The baby blessings I've experienced here were by no means weirder than the christenings I've seen.(of course, my insider perception might be off…)
We were joking.
@ oh, right, thanks 😂 went right over my head
@@HelloSaintsright? Surprise! We don't sacrifice chickens or other animals, kinda boring unless it's your own baby:)
Jesus has always been God , he’s always been divine.
@ nope it’s just a fact. Thanks for looking for an argument. But no thanks
I'm excited to watch this
I have been LDS my whole life and I feel the chosen portrays jesus the way I imagined him too.
@29:10 min, I would say LDS tend toward a more formal or proper relationship with Christ, the personal relationship is felt to be rather formal, not so much "distant" but I can see what he is trying to say.
thanx for the loaves and fish!
I also believe that temple covenants allow us to grow closer to our Savior and his personal atoning sacrifice.
Ah was just thinking I would love to hear y'all talk!
