Some minor notes:
- The irony in Gigi's father being able to bribe her with a PHONE, yet scratching his head on how to spy on meddling kids is not beyond me.
- Velma S2 also referenced Looney Tunes as well
- I *think* the designs have improved marginally
- Sophie's social media campaign with her baby was never mentioned again
- Scrappy Doo couldn't have been the source for why Velma was/wasn't a ghost, because Fred's mom wasn't killed by Scrappy yet has the same abilities
- The show's dialogue is if the show got paid for simile. There's even a few in this video

Dude literally like the last 3 Scooby-Doo shows are as bad, or worse, then velma. Like, speaking about the sancannty of Scooby-Doo when this is not even the second worst rated Scooby-Doo show.

Not only has HBO’s Velma been a disgrace to the Scooby Doo franchise and the Warner Bros. Animation studios, but it’s also a far cry from the hundreds of Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig and Daffy Duck projects.
Scrappy-doo is back, and he’s a killer. Flashbacks to that one Velma meets old Velma video.
Except with none of the charm, meta commentary, or anything at all interesting.

Nobody asked for it because that's not how the show was made. it was ordered for 2 seasons and a halloween special before it even came out (That's why Amber specifically says "on Halloween"). No data from actually being WATCHED will go into considerations about this series until that Halloween special comes out later in the year, that's how all shows are made now, they don't take ratings into account until the end of the two seasons they already made

If a show is super successful then the actors and writers can argue for getting paid better BUT the rules do not allow for contract alterations if the studio orders 40 episodes and a special and just CALLS them two seasons.
This process is restricted to two seasons because that's the bar that Netflix set more than a decade ago. You will notice all the shows Netflix is infamous for cancelling, were successful, had followings but were cancelled after 2 seasons to avoid having to negotiate with creators. It also exists within a loophole that allows streamers to avoid paying royalties to writers and actors

Them brining back Scrappy to kill velma was actually a win in my book. Really hope it stays like that and not the execs blaming on the viewers thinking that it’s getting another season.
OK, WHY is it that awesome cartoons that people genuinely like (Infinity Train, Owl House, Rise of the TMNT, Dead End, Final Space, Tuca and Bertie, Ducktales, Inside Job, Ghost and Molly McGee, Glitch Techs, etc) are always canceled, while crap like THIS, that everyone isn't afraid of saying they absolutely HATE and want NONE of, still gets made!? 😠 😤
Because nobody talk about them… the thing with Velma is people says is not the hate watching but it is… that show have been in the top ten of MAX every single time… check the numbers of the infinite train damn check the reviews in YT… so yeah you can say whatever about those nobody care about them at the same level than Velma even when they only mock it… your hate for Velma is stronger than your love for those shows your comment and this video is the prove.
Its a few issues from satastics, numbers, having their heads up their own asses and I want to say ignorance? It's like that say "It sounds good on paper but when put into practice, not so much..." really the reasons those shows while amazing play it a lot riskier then something like Velma which will get clicks but only as many as they are wanting.
The thing is, they all got canceled after season 2 or 3 because that's how many seasons are ordered for shows these days before they're canned.
Velma was ordered for 2 seasons and a Halloween special. And it won't get any more than that because unfortunately all animated shows these days have become glorified pump n dump schemes by the suits in charge.

Scrappy Doo deserves better than this. I loved the character tbh, never really got into the hate that "everyone" seemed to have for him and honestly hate how they're dragging him through the mud into this show.
It's honestly a lot thanks to James Gunn.
Seriously, most of the Scrappy Hate can be tracked to the first live action Scooby Doo movie. Before that, it was mostly just general ambivalence.

Here's the real hypocrite irony of how and why it's so dumb they bring scrappy doo but refuse to bring Scooby Doo. Back in Season 1 disaster, they said it would be kid-like if they brought back the iconic talking dog that is Scooby Doo. Yet for some dumb-arse reason Mindy is perfectly fine with bringing back Scrappy Doo, the nephew to Scooby Doo, a character that is mix-hated by fans, and make him into a blood killing machine that is suppose to be indestructible.
It's insane how WB/HBO thought that removing over shows as a means to save money but somehow green lite this "freak" of a show for 2 seasons will somehow net them a profit. And yet, somehow Mindy is allowed to get away with butchering and running off with another paycheck without so much as getting arrested and kick out of all entertainment.
i mean....i thought that was the obvious irony behind the choice, no? it isn't subtle at all, it's so on the nose the you know they are laughing in the distance while you watch it. Regardless of wether it's classy or not haha, or if it enrages fans or not, or "taints" scooby doo or not.
It made absolute sense that they chose scrappy haha. not in the "mystery logic" sense, but it fits perfectly with the demeaner/personality of the show. It doesn't matter if behind the scenes they said they wouldn't bring X because Y, it still made the most sense that a show like this would pick scrapy to be the ultimate villain and make it so unvelieably unreal lol. It's provocative, it's stoopid, it doesn't take itself seriously, it breaks the fourth wall (making the most hated adition to the series the ultimate op villain while still teasing scooby's name around lol, it's so clear that i can't get mad).
None of this to say that it's good, but that it shouldn't surprise anybody.

This show is still killing the legacy of Scooby-Doo universe itself by using the names and titles of the characters. This series is not worthy of existing and ruining what the original shows, cartoons and movies were given to people. Definitely not worth watching even for fun.

Sadly the horrible ride that is the Velma series isn't over yet, Because I actually heard that Kapling hopes to make a 3rd and 4th season for this dumpster fire, I mean so far it's just rumors but if it turns out to be true then let's hope they never see the light of day.

I’m just gonna say it: SCOOB was not that bad! I saw potential in the movie if it was done well! And I actually think a Hanna Barbera Cinematic Universe is a great idea if done right! And regardless of whether we needed Holiday Haunt before it was a tax write off, that shouldn’t discourage WBA to make a follow up that actually felt like Scooby Doo while making other projects based on the other cartoons that could fit into different genres to make each of these projects stand out! I’ve written in my notes app how I would structure them in all the ways that the MCU does! And James Gunn IS rebuilding a new DC universe and he could probably even help build the Hanna Barbera universe since he’s already written the theatrical live action Scooby movies!
yes scoob was mediocre lol. And people put on their nostalgia gogles and forget what hana barbera was about: cheap episodic shows with the lowest posible budget, basically the ilumination of that era. regardless of how attached some people got to some of their franchises. They just did what they set out to do well: not be great or push an artistic vision or anything, just averegely good shows and pasable stuff to switch on to your kid without bating an eye, and it being watchable in and out in any order so it could be placed in any way at any time in any braket.
Honestly what's "great" isn't really the hanna barbera shows, but the devotion people have for some of them.

@AlphaJayShow it was actually this one was contractual because it got green light for 2 seasons back when it was first green lighted so it was basically max be forced to air Velma because of the contract they written originally and it’s pretty common for all streaming services to pick do this practice

who said they are saving it? they got seasons greenlit upfront, and the ending to this will probably be the halloween special.

*That’s wrong actually* keep in mind that *finished projects* were canceled by WB and written off meaning Velma easily could have been the same however for whatever reason over Coyote vs ACME, the new Batman cartoon, and A new bat girl series, Scooby Doo specials ironically, etc.

And the clincher is that Kaling appears to be convinced that this is who these characters are. Let that sink in. Someone watched the series and got the characters totally wrong. J K Rowling is better at history than Mindy is at understanding what she's seeing.
So my big theory on the second season of Velma getting greenlit is with how episodes are produced. It didnt get greenlit for a new season, but for 20ish episodes based on it being tied to the Scooby-Doo IP so that if batch/season 1 did well then the next episodes were already in pre production so there wouldn't be a 2 year wait for them. Inversely if the show did poorly then WB could chop off 2-5 episodes and slash the budget of the show in order to save money.
Basically, season 2 was always coming imo. It just needed season 1 to not absolutely bomb to avoid getting a tv movie aka 4 episodes to wrap things up
Then why couldn't just have waited until all the episodes were produced and released it as a single 20 episode season? Given that this is streaming, it doesn't really matter whether there is one or two seasons since people just binge watch anyway.

Also subscriptions are pretty important as you can talk about a show as much as you want but it won't keep alive. A prefect example of this would be RWBY, it kept getting green light volume 10 trending for a while and now Rooster Teeth is sinking due to not making money

Lets be honest, Scrappy doesn't deserve all the hate.
Here's the thing: bad press is still good press for a show despite the quality of it. If you watch it - even just to meme or hate on it, you're still part of a growing viewer count that gives the show a chance to grow. Season 2 would have probably went DOA if season 1 didn't garner a high viewer base.

To make all this worse, this is not even the first time Scrappy was made the villain. They did that years ago in the live-action Scooby-Doo movies and actually did it better than Velma.

This seems like the streaming equivalent of a Twitter s**t post. Doesn't matter what the show is called, it just matters if it's good or bad. This show seems to be purposefully bad just to bother people and they'll keep making more seasons as long as they have the money.

Unironically, the only good thing this show did was to redeem the character assassination James Gunn did on Scrappy.
See what sucks is that people don't understand how streaming services produce shows like this. They already were planning to make a season 2, they just broke season 1 into two parts and decided to now finally release the second part. There are some cases where animators are able to pump out a second season of a show within a year but I highly doubt it would be 10 episodes long that are over 20 minutes in length as well unless if they're really overworked or barely animated. Still the amount of hate watch that this show got really is depressing when other shows deserve the watch time more than this show ever will.

I can tell you I don't wanna watch it. I see a summary of it from two UA-camrs and move on with my life. I see it as a non canon show that is relying on shitting on an old IP to keep itself afloat.

Oh, trust me, this show aint getting a third seasson. With the way they promoted the show, that was literary 1 trailer 10 days before the second seasson, and the fact they dumped all episodes at once, Max usally does weekly episodes, show they want this show to be forgoten has fast has possible
I love it how in shows like this teenagers never have worry about doing HW or preparing for test. They have all the time in the world to cause and end drams.

We have anime out here who won’t even get a full season 1 until the first 12 episodes are well received and then there’s production companies like HBO who order 2 WHOLE SEASONS of a show before even considering if it’ll bomb or not.
