- Happy Halloween everyone (I recorded this the day before Halloween)!
Today, I'm comparing the lowly Tone City King of Blues to the mighty, legendary, mythic sounds of the Analogman King of Tone. Does this $50 pedal hold up to this most highly regarded, nearly $1,000 (on the second hand market) holy grail pedal? Watch this mess and find out. I'm including some useful links below.
Have fun, and Happy Shredding,
-Brett

Great vid and GREAT playing!
Thanks for sayin' so. Cheers.
Great demo, and new subscriber.
very helpful, thanks, persuasive tones indeed
Incredible similarity in sounds!
Agreed. Both sound fabulous!
This was a really good video. The Michael Keaton joke was hilarious
I'm glad the reference ot that ancient movie wasn't wasted. Cheers.
The king of blues sounds antlers different, but it does sound very good. There’s no way it’s an exact clone. Honestly, the amount of delay and reverb you used made it hard to hear the details of the pedals.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll take that to heart.
I've both of them, I'm interested in trying them out together.
Wow, lots of comments considering your numbers . . . Makes me think about considering actually speaking in my own content LOL Thanks for this! Just ordered one.
This one struck a nerve with people apparently, lol.
The absolutly best TONE is at 13:30 , realy screaming scary dangeros ...., realy great playing and good comparing, i have the KoB , love it, regards
Sometimes i have the same tone ....?
Cheers! Thanks for watching, yo.
Awesome video, man! Your playing is majestic. This is the v1 of the king of blues? They released a v2, it would be terrific if you could make a v1 vs v2 vs king of tone
Thanks for the kind words. I should check out the V2, thanks for the heads up!
Kinda hard to tell with the delay and verb on.
Heard. Thanks for the feedback.
Well, it does what it sais on the box..more 'bluesy" bite, that 50 bill..it all depents on taste I quess..enjoyed your playing! Thx ;)
Cheers, thanks. Both are (the same) great pedals.
Jack Pearson plays 3-4 different Indonesian squires and an epiphone Joe bonnamassa flying v and gigs them all original not modded and they sound just amazing its all in your head don't waste money buy the king of blues and be done with it...unless you want the investment 😉
Lol at the Multiplicity reference.
1990 was ten years ago. I'm just sayin.
Does the kob have more noise?
Not noticeably.
website says that engine A is a klone style overdrive and engine B is a bluesbreaker style overdrive like the king of tone.
::shrug emoji:: Maybe there's a V2 or something, but these sounds damn near identical. Cheers.
@@houseofshred3725 yeah they do and it’s awesome!
@@unclefungus7395 I'm in the process of finding substitutes for pedals that seem to have gone up in value for whatever reason recently (Fulltone anything for example). The King of Blues is for sure my KoT stand-in.
Tone city make great drive pedals. My two favourites are the LIl Heat and the Golden Plexi.
How's the V2 of the Golden Plexi? Any idea?
@@houseofshred3725 I’d love to know too. I really want a cheap lower gain plexi style pedal and I’ve heard that the V2 has more gain range whereas the V1 is basically mid to high gain only.
You should try the wild fro
@@Cpmnk Huh, never heard of it. Is it good?
@@houseofshred3725 yeah, its an id made in collaboration with rabea massaad, he has a video on his channel
To much delay & reverb to hear the true nature of the pedals
Roger that. Check out part 2!
The King of Tone just has that little something that makes it clearer and lively. The King of Blues is a little nasally, just a little. Both sound good, but for this demo I pick the King of Tone.
Seriously, the farther the tone knob on the Tone City goes, the more it sounds like the KoT. I need to come up with a switching system of some kind, spend a little more time tweaking than I had here, and do a follow up.
Thanks for the feedback!
Seems more transparent
It is difficult to accept for the cost that the King of Blues sounds better, it's even very close to the sound S.O "Dumble", specifically to the Bonamassa tone
It's taken me WAY too long to figure out that the circuit is KING. Be it amps, pickups, pedals... the circuit design is 98.9% of the battle.
plz do this exact same video without the huge amount of reverb/delay completely obscuring the tone of the pedals.
Yeah I think I’m gonna do that. Cheers.
Is there a way to check where you are on the waiting list?
I followed this when I was waiting for mine:
www.analogman.com/kotdelay.htm
Seriously, buy the Tone City in the meantime. It's REALLY REALLY close.
It would be nice to hear the pedals without the ridiculous amount of echo.
Roger that.
I won’t pay the crazy KOT price. But I won’t overtly support China with the KOB either. There lots of other options. The Greg Koch Gristle King pedal is great. American made, and $179.
I can dig all of that. I don't have any experience with the Greg Koch pedal though. What's it like?
snouse black box is great one.
@@jeffdubuque3755 I've heard about that one. Probably heard it on TPS. I need to go back through their catalogue and look for it.
At 11:58 you started cleanly picking some fast stuff that added instant gravitas to your opinion and certainly caught my attention.
Damn, thanks. Cheers.
Holy andy timmons tone Batman! Wish we could see the rig you used and settings on the pedal board and amp. This tone is sick
Thanks! If I'm not mistaken, that was an old Fender Bassman 70 (a model that doesn't usually get much love from Fender guys) through a birch ply closed back Krank cabinet with two Celestion Creamback heavy magnet 75W 12's. SSS Stratocaster too. Dawgtown pickups.
Line 6 DL4 MKII, black Dunlop Jazz III.

And Analogman 4 years wait list! LOL
I've seen much more blatant ripoffs than this - it's not even the same circuits! The KOT has two transparent overdrives (basically a boutique version of the Bluesbreaker), while the KOB has a TS style circuit on one side and a Klon type circuit on the other. I actually have both a Wampler Pantheon Deluxe (similar to KOT) and a King of Blues in my rig.
When you demo drive pedals, please don’t also use other effects like too much reverb 🙄

For the love of christ, save some delay for the rest of us.
Roger that. My excessive use of delay and reverb is a hindrance to a lot of people who've watched this. I'm gonna update it at some point. Either way, cheers and thanks for watching.
The King of tone is massively overpriced. It's a $200 pedal. Just sayin
I think the KoT retail price (I think I paid about $290 with add-ons and shipping) is pretty reasonable for a great sounding, great looking dual function pedal made in the States by people who probably earn enough money to actually support themselves.
The secondhand market is insane.
Cheers!
THAT'S NOT WHAT GAIN MEANS 😂
You know they're out there.
@@houseofshred3725 for sure
I hate shredding! I would never subscribe to a UA-cam channel called ''House of Shred''. I just did though.
Heh, I appreciate that. Cheers!
Tell the truth. You recorded this crappy sound through your iPhone. Right??
Oh without a doubt. I do the best I can with the time I have to make videos. Hoping things'll calm down a bit going forward. Either way, thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Cheers.
@@houseofshred3725 👍🏼. I hear ya. I didn’t make it to the end. Amazon has those pedals for $75. Worth it????
@@davehappablap5549 If you're after the KoT thing, absolutely.
The is a terrible demo.
