My name came up for the King of Tone late last year, but i've been putting it off. [Shoe is on the other foot-now, they're waiting for *_me._* Feels gooooood. / jk] /// Might want to reach out to the Coppersound folks. I tried to access their site from your link, and got a 'danger' block on Chrome. Had to pull up my big boy pants, take a deep breath and bypass it, and then the site was running slowly. Really great that you summarized at the end. Great comments. You may have gotten me re-excited about the KoT. The Yellow side with your Tele at the end, sweet.
Yes they can sound very similar under certain circumstances. The differences show immediately though if you swap guitars or play something different. They all feel very different too under the fingers. For low gain the Foxcatcher is incredible. For low to medium gain I love the KoT most, but the Pantheon and the Morning Glory feel really really good too. By the way, I just checked the Coppersound link. It works perfectly, I hope it does for you too. Don't worry about the Google "danger message", it's all safe. Haha! Google is a little overprotective, but that's alright. Haha!
You are killing it brother. With those guitars and your talent, anything would sound amazing. I really like the JHS but I’m kind of a fanboy for all things Josh makes. I haven’t seen it on your channel but any thoughts on “different” drives? I know it’s a bit old but I really like the Walrus 385. They, along with Keeley, Emerson, and others are based here in Oklahoma. If you haven’t tried it, check it out. Like I say, it’s different and may not be your thing. Keep rocking and doing what you do. Thanks brother.
Hey Eric, some Walrus love is coming up on my channel very soon. ;) And most of my guitars have Emerson pots and electronics in them. So I guess that makes me an Oklahoma fanboy. Haha! I'm fine with that. Cheers!
Kris Barocsi brother, you are officially an Okie in my book. We have Old Blood Noise, Keeley, Emerson, and Walrus all here in the state. Maybe you need to take a road trip. I’ll buy the first few rounds.
The KoT is a great, great pedal. But just like the Klon, they're easy enough to replicate these days. No reason to buy boutique unless you are trying to impress other guitar players, which a lot of guitarists seem to want to do. It's like they forget the audience is all that matters, and they're not gonna give a ratsass that you have them. I personally think the MG is even better with single coils or at least just as great as the KoT. And the Pantheon works so well with Fender amps because of its awesome EQ. I haven't played the Foxcatcher, but it also seems to hold its own.
To be honest, the Pantheon has two higher gain settings you didn't use when comparing it to the KOT red side until the end. They'll all get you in the ballpark. Just hearing different mids.
Great video Kris. Very infromative. I have no bonds to KoT and what I see and hear from many demos, it is pedal, you have to feel playnig yourself under your fingers, rather then giving any overwhelming sound in demo, so hard to judge it like this. Wampler Pantheon have very smooth creamy sound to the overdrive, that I will not compare it here with other KoT/Bluesbreaker pedals, as I expect them all to somewhat to the old Marshall amp, that have bite and some agression to it. But man, does it deliver with full gain on. Feels like it was the only pedal build to be really cranked all the way up. Id say, it reminds me more of the mythical D-style overdrive JHS Morning glory have very interesting "bark/growl" to it, like touch of fuzz or what to it. I noticed this with many JHS pedals (twintwelve, kilt, charlie brown). It sounds like lot of fun to mess around with that. Foxcatcher was kinda disapointement to me, as it have to my ears strange uppermid hump, that started to annoy me after short while. Moer Blues crab, big surprise and I will say sounding closest to KoT, hard to judge from video as KoT to me looks like all about the player experience (like driveing good car, you might not to see it from outside or even inside, if you are not driveing it). Funny thing is, that this video drives me away from that kind of pedal, as those sounds I kinda can get from my Marshall using boost pedal, haha. Last time Im having pretty heavy GAS for tweed like pedals (ie Catalinbread Formula 55 or Mad Professor Tweedy drive), or the new Mythos Lark (damn that things drives me craaaazy, haha) ... Again, great great video, very good work. Thank you very much for it, it looks like pleeenty of work.
Hey man! Great vid love it! (Pantheon owner, also. Since the first Mont it came out) Got a question: Have You ever stack both, the pantheon and morning Glory? And what's your opinion? In terms of sound... I want to buy a MG .. is worth?
Hey Pastor, I didn't try stacking them. If I would, I had the MG in front of the Pantheon. Why? The morning glory sounds a bit narrower and sweeter with less low and high end. That pretty much always works in front of more amp like drive pedals (which would be the Pantheon in this case). Cheers!
I have the 3 series OD (dumble-esque) and the Morning Glory (BB). While I may be able to dial in a specific pair of settings to find some relative matched tone, they quickly stray from one another outside of that. Not the same circuit, very different core personalities.
I have the Foxcatcher and am trying to get rid of it. Yes, it does have a beautiful tone, and if you can dial in the tone that you like and just leave it alone, then you'll be happy with it. But if you're tweaker and want different combinations of sounds out of it, forget it. The controls are very strange. I don't use the "Nature" (presence) dial at all. Both the tone and gain knobs have a tremendous effect on volume. It's hard to enjoy what it has to offer in a quiet setting. :)
Try a kollmanation pedal. The whole KOT thing is completely psychological. The 4 yr wait makes you really really really want one. Or get a Weehbo pedal. So many pedals out there.
Thomann used to sell it, that's where I bought mine. I'm sure you can get it directly from Coppersound. Check out the link in the video description box. Or write Thomann an email, maybe they can order one for you. cheers!
Ah- the BB Preamp is actually based on a tube screamer, with a Baxendall EQ stack. The end result sounds very different from a screamer, but that’s what the circuit is. It’s not based on the Bluesbreaker pedal at all, but trying to emulate a Marshall-type amp sound.
Great video man! I've been trying to find an "inspiring home-tone" setup since all of this quarantine chaos started and was wondering if I could get your opinion. Is the answer a low wattage >5 tube amp? Attenuator for current amps? Amps with power scaling/attenuator built in? Modelers? Or more pedals (been eyeing the KoT for a while lol)? Cheers!
WillyM415 Hey man, thanks a lot! If you have an amp you really like, stick to it and use an awesome attenuator or even a load box and go IR. These will sound best and do both attenuation and IR: Two Notes Torpedo Captor X, Torpedo Reload, OX Box. And the best attenuators: Fryette Power Station, Rivera Rockcrusher. Cheers!
Hey man, thanks a lot! The pickups are hand wound Fender Custom Shop Nocaster (Blackguard) pickups. I'm using Fender Pure Nickel 10-46 strings on my tele. Cheers!
It sounds most natural to me. Otjer pedals are great but they have that un tubelike "pedal chirp" and mid hump that colors the sound.. which is not a bad thing. But with a les paul everything except the KOT sounded like crap
Hi Kris rock on .. My KOT clone is ..ok ...but I need the Tele to go with it Thanks as always Mr Barosci sir Any more ideas for guitar llead lines ? Hit me Seriously hit me I dented my prs Tremonti this morning ! Bad boy! Foxcatcher for me
Paul Dugdale haha! Don’t worry I knock over a guitar every month. And if I don’t, my little boy does it for me. Haha! It’s just the nature of things. The Foxcatcher is incredible.
Try the older version of the Wampler Pinnacle Deluxe. It's a dist pedal but really more of an overdrive-dist that really captures the classic Marshall JMP "brown sound". Most high end boutique dist pedals sound great with your guitar volume dimed but sound thin and tinny when you roll your guitar volume back. This is where the older Pinnacle Deluxe shines. It interacts quiet well with your guitar volume giving you a variety of tones. The V2 of the Pinnacle isn't as good IMHO.
Joseph Benz congrats! Go for the high gain option but on one side only. If you want to stack the two sides for high gain, go for a high gain yellow side. If tight high gain sounds don’t matter to you, then go for a hit gain red side. Cheers!
coldwar1977 You know what? I have two Bad Monkeys. That’s how much I love it. 🤘😂 Very different pedal though, I only use the Monkey to boost an already overdriven sound. Cheers!
No shame in that at all! Upgrade to a Digitech Hardwire CM-2, the newer version w/o the crappy buffer. And it has an extra setting for modern sounds. Man, what a killer that is.
Saintier set haha! They are very different animals, don’t worry. The KoT does pretty much everything on a very high level. The Foxcatcher really shines on very low gain sparkly drive settings. But it really doesn’t have a lot of gain on tap. A as told, they are very different and I use them for different sounds. Cheers
I have a Foxcatcher. The functionality is pretty weird. The right foot switch can be set as either a boost or an added gain. But the added gain is only slight. So, the main drawback is that you cannot have a somewhat clean setting on the left switch and a high-gain setting on the right/boost switch.
All cool. I like the fox the least. The blues one has a nice dirty thing. KOT and Pantheon to me are the best. I see why so many session players use KOT. It just stays out of the way of singers. Best.
KOT is great. However, in a band mix nobody would notice you rocking a blues crab. Or you could stack the pedals you already have - I've got a grands worth of drive pedals on top of my wardrobe. When do you stop? 🎯
Bought the Pantheon, cause I ain't gonna wait 3 years for a KOT. Besides you can stack the Pantheon with another great pedal and get a more unique tone. Everybody will soon have the King of Tone sound. There is no King of Tone on Jeff Beck his pedalboard, there is no King of Tone on Mark Knopfler his pedalboard.... believe me everybody can have an unique and great tone without the King of Tone.
Haha! Thanks dude! If only I was satisfied at all with my playing... But that's good I guess. Keeps me motivated and makes me wanna get better. :) Cheers!
they sound pretty close in my opinion. Either in a live or a mix they ll be indistinguishable. Even worse 99% wouldnt even care, so youncan get there with either of these
I got a demonfx king of drive and I'm not that impressed with it.might be my amps since they seem to hate everything I normally use except like boss pedals and anything owned by Dunlop(Mxr,way huge ECT.) Yet my behringer clones of boss pedals don't seem to sound as good.the two amps I'm using now are a fender frontman 100 212 and a peavey vintage 410 tube combo and I used to use a boss katana mk1 50 and a crate gx40c 210 but I traded my katana for an expensive old Ibanez pedals and my crate well it just sits around with my sunn alpha lead combo doing nothing

With single coils the difference is negligible to my ears. The things really change with humbuckers. I prefer the KOT and the FoxCatcher. I didn't like the Morning Glory.
I've got a pedal I bought on eBay for $17 with free shipping. It will blow all of those pedals out of the water. It is the best bluesbreaker style pedal I've ever used oh, and I have used the original bluesbreaker. I bought one back in 1994 when I was 13 years old. Wish I still had it I would make a lot of money selling it to these young guitarist that think it's worth a month salary. I also used to have a klon centaur, silver. I've got three other pedals that sound way better than the klon centaur ever sounded. You don't need to spend all your money on gear just get decent gear and learn how to use it properly. Any guitarist should be able to take a board with straight up budget pedals and get the sounds that they want. All your personal tone comes from your fingertips not the gear. Great video though man I'm digging a channel. I have been on the hunt for tone since 1989, it's going to be hard to convince me that I need to spend my money on Boutique bullshit. But keep up the good work it's very entertaining LOL.
@@pedrohenriquepietracci3061 I'm not here to support brands. My point was is that you should look for pedals that work for you. Don't assume that something is bad if it's cheap. Your search for tone should be yours alone, don't expect somebody to tell you what the best Pedal is. Tone is subjective, find your own.
@@mark5150ty Wow, but aren't you super helpful. I'm here shopping for BB pedals and you won't share the great one you've encountered at a price point I could take a risk on w/o hearing some demos of.
Haha!
Kris Barocsi Thanks, Kris.
Stay safe.
Jhs & Foxcatcher for me.. Great video btw👍👍
I love my Wampler Pantheon - versatile and sounds "thick" it really saturates the sound in a pleasing warm way.
I wanna believe it... but my wampler pinnacle and ratsbsne just leave me with more to be desired.
Really nice video.Every pedal was great,i prefered the pantheon for some reason and the more blues one.
I prefer the Wampler, even to the KoT. The JHS is a bit bright for me. I have to say the Mooer is really good for such an inexpensive pedal.
on the JHS, there's a switch on the side... a bright cut switch.
@@lescaster2179 was going to say the same thing.
Good comparison! I'll stick with my Morning Glory V4 AND J. Rockett Blue Note🤘
I loved my JHS MG but KOT always be my dream
+ 1 for the Wampler Pantheon. If you want 2 channels look for the deluxe pantheon. Amazin versatility.
What are the trim pot settings in the KoT for this video?
Was ich Ihnen noch zum Vergleich empfehlen würde, wäre ein Pedal von Ceriatone Namens Horse Breaker
Mooer sounds pretty clean and open
You made all of them sound good but the Strat into the KoT was the best.
Good video friend !!!
Id say, it reminds me more of the mythical D-style overdrive
JHS Morning glory have very interesting "bark/growl" to it, like touch of fuzz or what to it.
Thank you very much for it, it looks like pleeenty of work.
btw, how does Blues Crab stacks with other pedals?
Agree. The Wampler Pantheon is a fantastic versatile overdrive tool with his own personality and his own character.
Man! The foxcatcher is awesome!
Hey man! Great vid love it! (Pantheon owner, also. Since the first Mont it came out)
Got a question: Have You ever stack both, the pantheon and morning Glory? And what's your opinion? In terms of sound... I want to buy a MG .. is worth?
Hey Pastor, I didn't try stacking them. If I would, I had the MG in front of the Pantheon. Why? The morning glory sounds a bit narrower and sweeter with less low and high end. That pretty much always works in front of more amp like drive pedals (which would be the Pantheon in this case). Cheers!
And after all of that you can just get a JHS 3-series Overdrive, which A/B's equally with the Morning Glory and KOT.
It is not the same circuit, but it does sound great.
Did you run into some problems with shipping the KoT to Germany?
Try a kollmanation pedal. The whole KOT thing is completely psychological. The 4 yr wait makes you really really really want one. Or get a Weehbo pedal. So many pedals out there.
I've had my original BB from new.
It's still the best one. It's the pedal you forget you're playing until you don't.
Hello Kris, where did you buy the foxcatcher ? Couldn’t find it on the Thomann site. It sounds amazing, just my type 😉
Thomann used to sell it, that's where I bought mine. I'm sure you can get it directly from Coppersound. Check out the link in the video description box. Or write Thomann an email, maybe they can order one for you. cheers!
Kris Barocsi thanks mate 👊🏻
I’m surprised you didn’t include the Xotic BB preamp
Ah- the BB Preamp is actually based on a tube screamer, with a Baxendall EQ stack. The end result sounds very different from a screamer, but that’s what the circuit is. It’s not based on the Bluesbreaker pedal at all, but trying to emulate a Marshall-type amp sound.
Ps the Fox atcher is quite hard to get now not KOT hard but not many I can find
Paul Dugdale Thomann used to sell it, that’s where I bought mine. You can definitely get it from Coppersound directly for sure. Cheers mate
Paul you can order them from Coppersound website, I just got mine a couple days ago. They are made to order.
@@a.wyattmann4370 Thanks ..I'll have a look
My fav. is the Snouse BlackBox. However, like the foot switchable extra channel on the morning glory.
Cheers!
@@KrisBarocsi Right on, thanks man! I'll look into all of those!
what pickups do you use and what string gauge do you use on that telecaster sounds amazing...thank
Hey man, thanks a lot! The pickups are hand wound Fender Custom Shop Nocaster (Blackguard) pickups. I'm using Fender Pure Nickel 10-46 strings on my tele. Cheers!
@@KrisBarocsi thank you
They all sound good, but the kot is sooooo good. I did not expect that.
It sounds most natural to me. Otjer pedals are great but they have that un tubelike "pedal chirp" and mid hump that colors the sound.. which is not a bad thing. But with a les paul everything except the KOT sounded like crap
The blues crab just booted my Ibanez TSV808 off my board. Couldn't believe the tone! Will post a video soon
Hi Kris rock on ..
My KOT clone is ..ok ...but I need the Tele to go with it
Thanks as always Mr Barosci sir
Any more ideas for guitar llead lines
?
Hit me
Seriously hit me I dented my prs Tremonti this morning !
Bad boy!
Foxcatcher for me
Paul Dugdale haha! Don’t worry I knock over a guitar every month. And if I don’t, my little boy does it for me. Haha! It’s just the nature of things.
The Foxcatcher is incredible.
From the first chord you struck I hit subscribe… I just bought the cascade mtn-10 which is a mostortion clone 👍
Thanks Jeffrey, I really appreciate it!! Cheers
HiYa, Ive got the TREX DIVA + the Tomsline Bluesy!.....
my basics begin from SIMble and TCEL mOJOmojo...
theres this chinese 68 company which makes clones of the anman King for like 120€s thou...
Love your demos Kris! My name just came up on the King of Tone waiting list. Would you recommend high gain on one or both sides? Thanks!
Joseph Benz congrats! Go for the high gain option but on one side only. If you want to stack the two sides for high gain, go for a high gain yellow side. If tight high gain sounds don’t matter to you, then go for a hit gain red side. Cheers!
@@KrisBarocsi I think I'm going to go with high-gain yellow. I've always preferred to stack gain from low to high. Thanks for the adivce!
Analog Mike uses high gain on both sides - it's not that much more than the standard gain and it makes more of the gain pot settings usable.
I'm still happy with my Bad Monkey. There must be something wrong with me ;)
coldwar1977 You know what? I have two Bad Monkeys. That’s how much I love it. 🤘😂 Very different pedal though, I only use the Monkey to boost an already overdriven sound. Cheers!
@@KrisBarocsi Yeah me too! It excels at tightening up hi-gain sounds. Cheers Kris!
No shame in that at all! Upgrade to a Digitech Hardwire CM-2, the newer version w/o the crappy buffer. And it has an extra setting for modern sounds. Man, what a killer that is.
Hey Kris, great demo. I really liked the Foxcatcher, did you run it at 9v or 18v here? Thanks!
Karl Wilson thanks Karl! I use it at 9V for the sake of simplicity. And because it has an insane amount of headroom at 9V already. Cheers
Damn I been waiting since September 2017 for my KoT and that Fox sound really appealing
KoT is warmer than others. it deserves its fame i beleive
HEY heyhey hey, the Pantheon is the spogiest! have the Euphoria, just bought the Pantheon!!
There is no King of Tone on Jeff Beck his pedalboard, there is no King of Tone on Mark Knopfler his pedalboard.... believe me everybody can have an unique and great tone without the King of Tone.
the cheapo mooer stuff surprises me still
Dmn man you are so good
Haha! Thanks dude! If only I was satisfied at all with my playing... But that's good I guess. Keeps me motivated and makes me wanna get better. :) Cheers!
Not one of these pedals sounds like the real thing. King of tone is the king. Good video, and well produced. Thank you.
they sound pretty close in my opinion. Either in a live or a mix they ll be indistinguishable. Even worse 99% wouldnt even care, so youncan get there with either of these
@@mehegama yeah, but the big thing on KOT is the feel under your fingers. It's mind blowing man!
Foxcatcher and Morning Glory
the mooer is like, a quarter the price of any of the others
Morning Glory for me
Try a pedal by a small co. Called daddy /daughter "my little klony.theybmake a dual little klony side 1 gold side 2 silver.and my friends if you can find one ur lucky.sounds closest ti the protein drive.by Browne Amps..really great musical pedal for around 150$.
What's the name of that $17 bluesbreaker type pedal?
@@pedrohenriquepietracci3061 I'm not here to support brands. My point was is that you should look for pedals that work for you. Don't assume that something is bad if it's cheap. Your search for tone should be yours alone, don't expect somebody to tell you what the best Pedal is. Tone is subjective, find your own.
@@mark5150ty Wow, but aren't you super helpful. I'm here shopping for BB pedals and you won't share the great one you've encountered at a price point I could take a risk on w/o hearing some demos of. Uh, don't think of it as supporting brands. Think of it as supporting your fellow artists.
The rest of what you say is 100% accurate. So far my favorite BB variant is a $40 Rogue Blues Distortion, but it has just a bit too much low-end for my rig. You don't need to spend a lot on this muffler...
@@AndrewLewisHowe by all means $40 sounds like a deal for a great pedal
Hey Kris!
The Morning Glory is brighter than a BluesBreaker
Good to know, thanks! It also definitely has more gain and volume on tap. And it's more versatile thanks to the extra switches. Cheers!
