      You're not allowed to fly close to the prison, so that's not possible without getting shot down from the sky.
      Escaping has to be done fast in and out thats the point.

    I really do applaud CIG for not only making tradeships able to defend themselves, but for adding a punishment system that is actually punishing.
    It being easier and a lot more fun to be a dick has been a problem that has plagued MMOs all the way back to UO and MUDs before it
    Usually I play resource gathers like mining, which can be a serious time investment in most games (an hour or more in elite for instance), so someone popping my ship in a matter of minutes just for shits and giggles, and the game barely giving them a slap on the wrist, has always been a piss take

      Unfortunately it's far less glamorous right now than how he describes it in the video. There are still too many bugs in the game that can send you to prison, and bugs and toxic players that can keep you there despite having done nothing wrong. Sentence times are usually well over an hour, and mining only works if your multitool isn't bugged or prisoners with guns in the prison don't kill you. The escape route was poorly designed and depends on luck. Not to mention it is in the starting area feet from where you spawn in, so you never have to go near the mines. Bounty hunters are incentivized to camp the exit with basically no downside or difficulty to do so unless other outside groups of players decide to stop them. And worst of all, pad rammers don't even get sent to prison they get a free teleport to grim hex where they can hide out and buy a chip to go clear their crimestat (if they even get one)

    • @Salmon_Toastie
      @Salmon_Toastie 4 роки тому +1

      Collin Thanks for the reality check, i figured it myself, this idea is shit and will be boring as fuck like arma city life servers. Exits will be camped for eternity so no one bothers trying to escape they just leave the game for an hour and then eventually forever because of how lifeless it is.
      People have to realise it’s a game, it needs to fun and interactive, being a criminal and thrown into prison to mine or wait every time you get caught will result in it never happening.

    • @craZysteve547
      @craZysteve547 4 роки тому

      Collin I think they could fix the escape camping with a no fly zone, so that even bounty hunters do not have clearance to get close to the facility, and would risk getting shot down or even pick up their own crime-stat

    • @st0rm4g3dd0n
      @st0rm4g3dd0n 4 роки тому +1

      @@craZysteve547 right now to combat the exit camping you can go reactivate the comm array so that the campers get instant crimestat for being in the prison. The problem with that is you risk getting crimestat for trespassing when you reactivate the comms because they don't give enough time to leave once you've activated it.
      They just have a lot of things they clearly didn't think through enough and need to rebalance. That's why there's evocati and PTU to find these things and report them, but most people outside of evocati just want to play 3.9 and "look for the new meta weapons" don't do any actual testing or reporting

    • @SpaceTomato
      @SpaceTomato 4 роки тому

      @@Salmon_Toastie of it will result in it never happening wouldn't that be a good thing? Less people committing crime is generally good for the playerbase, in my opinion. If you aren't good enough to avoid getting caught, don't do the crime.
      You call this idea shit but you might be forgetting this is an initial implementation of a system that'll be used in different star systems, so while it might not be 100% foolproof, it can develop into something that is rather useful to the game.
      I appreciate the reality check as well from Collin, good to get another perspective of how the implementation is actually going, and it's really annoying that pad rammers won't be taken out of the game immediately (I assume after multiple offenses). That being said, no point in calling this wasted gameplay upon it's first introduction. People said the same about mining in 2017, and look how far it has come.

      Quite possible. When the crime system was introduced I kept getting dinged for the 'not stopping for security scan' thing.
      Almost always because what they were asking was physically impossible for my ship to do, or a minor screwup with my controls messed it up.
      The worst one was when I had a heavily damaged ship that was incapable of slowing to below 8 m/sec.
      That truly felt unfair...
      The irony of the most common problem though is that it's because I was flying a rather large and tough ship, and the security forces were pretty much incapable of harming me in any meaningful sense.
      So they'd ding me for not stopping (because I got like 20 seconds to stop when I need 50 to stop from full speed), then they can't kill me so I get bored and leave...
      And then I can't get that crimestat cleared again, because nobody seems capable of killing me, and a 1 bar crimestat isn't worth the time for player bounty hunters, especially if they end up having to fight off something large...
      Yeah... XD

    I'm super interested in seeing how they expand on this with new systems as they get added. It would be amazing if certain systems had prisons that were incredibly hard to escape from because, say, the jurisdiction has more resources for security. Have those systems where pirates dread getting captured in. Maybe even introduce the idea of a federal prison concept. Like, you piss off locals, you can evade them by traveling to another system and just have bounty hunters after you, but if you piss off the UEE, suddenly you're not safe in any system with a local government. This would really prop up the "lawless" systems as a haven for criminals, and thus make them even more dangerous for non-criminal players.

    Murder nets you a 12 hour sentence in prison. That's 12 hours of your time in game in prison. It is meant to be a deterrent and should cut back on the ganking we see all the time. Piracy is best when you don't run the risk of getting a crime stat. Only fools do their crimes in plain view of the authorities. (Speaking as a retired cop, not as a pirate.)
    As for mining, hadanite is the top tier gem stone for cash and for reducing your time to serve. A full backpack of hadanite will reduce your sentence by 7.5 hours! On anything short of murder this is almost an instant ticket to the outside.

    • @KuraIthys
      @KuraIthys 4 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I see a bunch of people complaining about this not being enough 'fun'.
      But they fail to see that being a pirate, or griefer means you are probably ruining someone else's fun for your own enjoyment. That's the first issue.
      Second, 'crime' has higher payouts in the game than legit jobs. It then follows that there has to be some risk, otherwise, what's balancing out this extra reward you get for doing 'bad' things? (that's pure game logic, but still.)
      Third, the risk of getting caught and the negatives it brings requires that those seriously considering crime have to be smarter about what they're doing. Don't do things in high security areas. If you're into piracy, try to find ways to do it that reduce the risk of getting a massive sentence. (eg cut down on how many people you kill, use subterfuge rather than brute force, etc.)
      Seems the people inclined towards 'criminal' gameplay don't like having to be thoughtful about what they're doing, nor do they seem to be willing to consider what their 'fun' does to players who aren't interested in getting attacked by pirates and thugs constantly...
      There has to be some balance here.
      This is a game. It has to be fun for both the lawful and unlawful players (And everyone inbetween), and shouldn't be consistently benefiting one group at the expense of the other.
      (a free-for-all with no consequences definitely benefits those preferring unlawful gameplay over everyone else.)

      KuraIthys yeah I definitely think this is a interesting on paper but in practice on an mmo I think this is a pretty awful idea.punishing players for engaging other players just sounds bad. Increase their bounty make them not able to go anywhere without being hunted down but don’t force people into rl timeout. This might work in alpha where everyone loves CIG and their decisions but I can’t see this working live. New players are gonna jump in engage in pvp and then get thrown in jail for 15+ minutes and say f this. If this were a single player game I’m all for it as for an mmo terrible idea.

      Istvan56 like I said it’s a really interesting idea to tackle a problem but I just don’t think it’s going to be received as well if it were in a live environment time will tell. The breaking out of prison aspect sounds fun but once people figure out all the spots prisoners escape from I could see that being camped and maybe that’s the intended purpose but I don’t think punishing players with for pvp is a good thing. I hear the argument there needs to be consequences but a timeout seems excessive regardless of how fast you can get out through mining. But on the flip side if you can pirate a massive ship and all you gotta do is mine some rocks for a short bit maybe the risk isn’t that high. Definitely interesting to see how it will play out.

    I think the prison gameplay is needed. Give each system it's own flavor. Having some systems be much more dangerous, not only from piracy, but from the "hell, I might go to prison just for getting attacked" would result in supply in those systems being lower, increasing demand, and resulting in them being more profitable for players willing to take on that risk. It would also mean needing to alter your strategy for systems like that. Instead of just relying on having bigger guns than the pirates, you might want to go with being faster to escape them, or employing other tactics to "outsmart" them.

    They could randomize sentries and have doors that lock and unlock periodically to mix up the "maze" which would make every experience unique. Oh, you were going to go down this cave you always go down because it's risk free? Well there was just a cave in, hold on while the engineers clear it out in a few hours. Things like that. They could also add other escape points, like really lengthy tunnels or maybe even a smugglers stash that has a vehicle that spawns (I mean, they delivered under the guard's knowledge). Another idea, bribing guards. Oh, you found a very valuable item in the mines? A guard might take a few minutes off your time for it.
    They have so many options, I hope they really expand on this. This is so unique
    Also, a great idea to counter the bounty hunters is to have pirate or smuggling factions you can join and call for help, maybe using a communicator found in a stash in the mines. If the surface of the planet is so extreme, chances are you won't be doing a solo escape, so this path makes a lot of sense. You are doing the great work with a visual representation of the game footage, the best i've ever seen on youtube. Can you share your PC' specs please? What is the average FPS do you have?

    I have to say that this is one of the greatest UA-cam Channels of Star Citizen that I've saw. Your content is far way better than other that are good too. But your content, I don't know, is simple better! Thanks for the video and continue with your amazing work!
    Cheers!

    I love your enthusiasm about this project dude, I must admit that I lost mine after 7 years. I just hope that I get to play a somewhat enjoyable SQ42 and don't expect much beyond that from this. I do hope to be proven wrong though.

    As someone that managed to end up in the game's prison after doing that prison break mission, I'd like to see a lighter sentence for first-time offenders. A 16-hour sentence was...unpleasant. It also meant that mining to reduce the sentence was a nonstarter; the reduction for a term that long was almost unnoticeable. It basically meant I was logging off the game until I could get folks to help me clear the crimes.

      You should know what you're getting yourself into. Wanna rob a bank? Well expect the S.W.A.T. to come knocking your teeth in before you can even stuff your bags with money. If "PvE carebears" are always expected to be ganked all the time like in Elite: Dangerous or Eve Online, then the gankers should be at the same risk against the law and bounty hunters(Whether player or NPC)

    I hope they make blast doors that would open and close in the tunnels, so the rout could be varied more, so you might start out the same but end up on a different rout than the one your used too.

    I could totally see some people playing as prison smugglers. Trying to stay in prisons as long as possible, smuggling high value minerals out dropping it off outside and then let someone kill them to respawn in the prison. Or getting payed for escape routes etc.

    I like the fact that to escape you need limited resources that are scattered all over the place, so people would need to fight for it so they can escape themselves

    Yeah. Catching/grabbing during jump is needed, also a way to soften bouncing off things. I’ve been stuck in rocks 5 times, and when released the elevator put me in orbit.

    This is really cool. Imagine they add more prisons too, each with their own sort of danger and labor. Making mittens on an ice world, harvesting volatile gasses on an acid world, chopping trees on a forest world.... the guards could bring folks out in force, like an escort quest where if you you don't keep within a certain distance of them, they begin a hunt.

    Breaking your crime boss outta prison is gonna be hella cool.
    This is to me the way that Star Citizen differentiates itself from other games; instead of forcing cutscenes and scripted scenarios and quests for you to do exactly as told, it proportionates the system for players to have to reproduce those situations.
    Prison time, prison escape, prison break-in and extraction, bounty/criminal record erasing..
    I don't even see myself wanting to do those things, but it's so nice to know people will be able to do so!
    Good stuff, Star Citizen

    Going to be interesting if they can add missions where you need to go to prison to complete a task. Like: Killing an NPC Prisoner who is set to rat out a boss. Provide "x" resource to an NPC Prisoner so they can escape. Etc Etc

    To get the full experience out of the game you really need friends or just people to play with and that can be hard when you first start out. I’ve not long started and can see be benefits of doing stuff with players but I’m on my own. I would just be happy with tagging along with people sometime just for fun no matter what we are doing.

    There's a player named AR_Cure who was very sour that my friend and I tried very hard to kill him when he had a crimestat. We decided to always attack him on sight for the rest of our lives regardless of his crimestat. I hope you see this message AR_Cure. I'm coming for you.

    The breakout consists Almost just about jump passes. CIG could have been a bit more creative, like also having to disable/hack alarms, turrets or things like that.
