Happy Thursday guys! The wait is over and today we’re actually posting TWO videos on the all-new GX! After you finish watching the review on this Overtrail+ trim, be sure to also watch our full video on the Luxury+ trim! Which GX 550 trim would you choose for yourself?
Thank you for detailing the car for the review. A lot of reviewer thinks it doesn't matter, but my OCD begs to differ. It separates a great review from the also-rans.
LMFAOOOOO I can’t believe y’all are memeing him. 😭😭 Imagine being such a clown across all social media platforms that everyone is shitting on you. 💀💀💀💀
My assessment is based on what I observed at the Auto Show in California. For comparing this SUV, I recommend examining others. To attend, both my wife and I had to pay a $30 fee, and I was particularly eager to personally see the Lexus GX due to the hype surrounding it as a large off-road SUV. Before I outline the positives and negatives, I want to express my anticipation spanning decades for the GX to unveil a new design. However, I am disappointed with what I encountered. Pros: * The shape is commendable, featuring a perfect boxy design akin to competitors such as the Defender, Jeep Cherokee, and GMC. * While the central infotainment system is not groundbreaking, it maintains consistency with other Lexus models, which is acceptable. * Cons: * There are numerous drawbacks. The model I viewed exceeded $77k and lacked the ML sound system. * The absence of a panoramic sunroof, now a standard feature in modern vehicles, detracts from the luxurious experience. * The panoramic sunroof in the Luxury+ model is underwhelming and seems to mimic the idea from the Venza, which has been on the market for over six years. * The quality of leather and interior falls short compared to other SUVs in the same price range. Even the Toyota Highlander boasts superior interior quality. * The exterior feels excessively plastic, particularly upon contact with the bumper, hood, and other body panels. * Leather quality across all trims is subpar. * Fuel economy poses a significant issue in 2024, averaging only 17 mpg. * Many materials exude a cheap feel, failing to deliver a luxurious experience. * If one opts for all available options on the Lexus GX 550, it may be preferable to choose the LX 600, which offers a higher level of luxury and power. * For a better depiction of luxury, consider examining the Infiniti QX80: ua-cam.com/video/NMzD7nLQlDY/v-deo.html I've been a longtime enthusiast of this SUV, but now, even surpassing $80k plus tax, it's hardly worth the investment. In 2024, there's a myriad of alternative options I've contemplated, including the Ford F150 Electric, Rivian, Cybertruck, GMC Denali AT4, Sequoia, and the Volkswagen Atlas Off-Road version, among others, boasting advanced technology and commendable qualities. Toyota and Lexus seem to be marketing very basic vehicles under the guise of reliability. Many individuals I conversed with at the auto show shared my sentiment that the GX 550 pales in comparison to the 460 in terms of quality, feeling cheaply constructed. It appears that UA-cam influencers may be sponsored by Toyota and Lexus, with many Toyota dealers hyping these vehicles on social media to attract buyers. This SUV no longer epitomizes luxury, not by a long shot. If you disregard reliability and juxtapose it against brands like BMW, Audi, and Land Rover, it's disheartening to witness its decline. Purchasing this vehicle entails enduring it for another six years solely to mitigate depreciation, while numerous other automakers are already introducing superior and more advanced technology. At present, I must explore alternative options, as this SUV is not worth $85k out of the door, if you're fortunate enough. Best wishes with your new purchase. Just bear in mind, many individuals are compensated for endorsing Toyota and Lexus brands, and I've encountered numerous instances of Toyota dealers leveraging social media to generate interest in these vehicles. In conclusion, this is merely my perspective. Enjoy your new purchase
this is an incredibly well done review, you are hands down the best car reviewer out there right now - knowledgeable, engaging, informative, to the point. It’s great to see how far you have progressed since when you first started out. love your style, please keep the great reviews coming! ⭐️🙌
I wish they had given the option of sliding rear seats and let the owners have a choice of more rear seat space or more cargo room. That is a big short coming of this otherwise fantastic SUV. Also, the KDSS will probably makes it impossible or very difficult to lift.
@@naveenthemachineMaybe your experience has been poor, but statistically Lexus is one of the most reliable brands, and Land Rover is one of the least reliable. Stats are easy to find.
The only reason I would consider this vehicle, is because it has full time 4WD with a Torsen locking center differential. I had that on my old 6MT FJ Cruiser. REAL full time 4WD is awesome. If you've never had it, you don't know what you're missing. The reviewer is correct. Toyota needs to put a locking center differential in the 4Runner and Tacoma.
Went to the dealership today to check it out. It looks great, but I don’t like the hump in the middle of the back row and do not like the how the back seats don’t fold down flush with the rear cargo space. Overall trunk space just space just seems kind of small. I’m comparing it to my 2020 Atlas Cross Sport which I love very much. Maybe I’m comparing apples to oranges.
The defender gets better fuel economy, is more powerful, has a larger fuel tank and signiuficantly better range.Past Land Rovers have poor dependability, however the recent post Tata acquisition shows improved quality and dependability. I like the Lexus and have owned many, including the 23 GX but my next SUV will most likely be the Defender, with an extended warranty!
Same here I have a 23 GX460 fully loaded and I am taking delivery of a 24 G63 AMG next week which is insane because I never thought I'd have to buy a Mercedes to basically get what Lexus should be making. It's literally the Lexus of German vehicles and blows all this crap that Toyota/Lexus is now putting out. I'm excited about the G63 but I'm still bitter. I didn't leave Lexus they left me. Edit: yes I'm also getting the extended warranty.
Always a great review. That trim level with those tires and wheels looks really good. Love some sidewall on an SUV with apparent capability. I think Lexus just placed themselves at the top of the segment, again.
Is the Overtrail the only model with two rows. What is height and width of cargo area. I have 2 Great Danes and want to know if they would fit? Thanks.
17:00 You can delete the moon roof for -$1100. Meaning, you subtract 1100 from msrp, so it's cost SAVING. Lexus doesn't charge you to delete it, unlike some manufacturers.
Except you can't actually order these from the factory... you can pick features you want and then try to find a dealer with an allocation for that setup... my guess is that ones without the moonroof will be rare, so good luck getting that configuration.
@@t3h8ar0n I never heard that before and it must be something unique to your area. I have always built cars on manufacturer websites and had dealers order my cars per spec. I did it with Audi, BMW, Hyundai, and Lexus. Never once had an issue.
@ChristianC-gy1ym I spoke to several dealers in the North America market. They stated that Lexus will not be building these to order because doing so delays the assembly process, and they will sell everything they produce anyways. Instead, the dealer will basically notify Lexus that they have a buyer who wants X, and if Lexus decides to do a run of that configuration, then that dealer will have priority to get an allocation with that configuration, but that there is no guarantee. My guess is almost all the ones they make will have the moonroof because most people want it, and it sells for more... so you will have to hope they decide to do a run without the moonroof in the setup you want.
@@t3h8ar0n Oh I see you mean the new gx specifically. I thought you meant in general with other vehicles. Yes ok, I haven't looked into the gx. But knowing that the NX 450h+ was also not available to be custom ordered, I believe it.
I wish the electrical towing connectors were built into the bumper like the Toyota Trucks or Sequoia. Instead, the tucked them under like the 4Runner. These are a pain to connect.
It would be nice for the Overtrail+ to come with real leather (Saddle Tan), 3rd row seating option, 3-zone climate controls, and heated middle bench seating. That would make it perfect.
I have a 2019 ES 350. I bumped the bumper on a curb and a bunch of the sensors went out of whack causing a bunch of annoying alerts and I had to take it to the dealership to get it fixed. When it rains/snows, the sensors get covered and it sets off a bunch of annoying warning lights. So I don't get the idea of doing an offroad with such an expensive vehicle loaded with these sensors. If you hit your bumper in a ditch, is it going to set off a bunch of sensors and flash a bunch of warning lights? Is the parking assist going to beep excessively every time you are near a tree of when they get covered in mud? Yes, you can turn it off but in my ES350, it then flashes annoyingly that the parking assist is turned off. I think the "off-road" capabilities are great for people who have to drive in the snow or in rural areas, but the idea of actually taking a vehicle like this off-road as a hobby seems a little ridiculous, at least until it is ten years old and you can just disable all the sensors.
Never owned a Lexus/Toyota before, but might look into this. Anyone know if Lexus dealers in Texas engage in the predatory markup schemes of practically every stealership in the country the last few years? Or can one expect to pay MSRP out the door on a Lexus product?
Does it use the TNGA-F platform like the Tundra, Sequoia Land Cruiser, Lexus LX and the new Tacoma??? If so I think having one platform for each segment in addition to the TNGA-F
I never liked green on a vehicle before. I was going to go with cognitio but gonna get the green and put a front bar and custom bumper on it. I think they could have done the four runner roll down window and pano sunroof for me to be more excited. You had the prime xse too, how does the interior compare?
Lexus made a huge design flaw with this new vehicle. The rear view mirror is blocking your camera and we have to look at your face instead of the road ahead. Lexus needs to address this issue asap.
@@sprague49 It's recommended and not required. I would play with the different grades of gas and see which: doesn't cause knock, gives the best gas mileage, and whether it affects performance.
This is pretty much my dream car, but I am SHOCKED at how bad the fuel consumption is and how slow it is from 0-60 (considering it is a new Lexus at this price point)
@redline love the video as always, so trust me when I say I mean nothing by this. But how did you come up with 350 mile range? Wouldn’t it be highway times tank size? Instead of the combined number?
Not exactly. Generally you compute combined times take volume. However the onboard computer will calculate live range by taking the MPG you had at the last fill up times tank size.
Love averting about this new GX. While the black roof option looks great, I can imaging it will add heat to the inside and outside of the vehicle and will not age well over time when exposed to the sun. I think you can get the roof in body color.
Good review. I like the fact that you covered the cornering lamps. I would have like more information on the folding mirrors, can I fold them in when entering a parking ramp? Also, you did not cover the trailer brake controller, if it is standard or after-market plug and play, and you did not mention the towing capacity.
There's a folding mirror button next to the adjustment controls. Per Lexus website, a trailer brake controler is integrated to all trim levels in the GX.
Sofyan, There is a lot to be praised with this new GX. However it is hard to believe Lexus is still introducing engines that require Premium fuel to produce LESS horsepower (349) than the Toyota equivalent produces with Regular (389) . 🤨
I think it has more to do with the fact that this engine replaces the 4.6 v8. The tundras v6 engine replaces the 5.7 so it has more power. Although you are right more power wouldnt be a bad thing
My 2020 LS 500 F-Sport has the same TT engine w/ 416 hp & loads more tq. It’s all in the tuning and gear ratio. Btw, I get 18-20 around town, and 24-29 trip, depending on mph. The acceleration is as good, if not better than the V8 I had in my ‘08 LS460.
Wish the Over trial had the 3rd row option like the luxury version. I would prefer the meaty tires over the rubber band big rim version . Still debating on this or Sequoia TRD for a 4runner replacement.
I like these. Will be getting a new SUV this year. May get one. But my idea of off roading is crossing a median on the interstate to get around an accident.
No doubt it is a fantastic true SUV, but the true use case unless one takes it off-road so much or even once in a month is not there! At almost $10000 more on fuel cost over 5 years at 17 mpg assuming 15K miles a year, which is the minimum reasonable period of ownership, the value prop is completely lost. I can compare this to my X5 PHEV that I get 42mpg hybrid, that’s a straight up $2K savings a year! If you stretch that to 10 years, that’s $20K more on fuel. Yeah take away a good chunk to keep the Bimmer maintenance, but you lose money with this GX. Where exactly this may shine is for people who keep this for 15 years or more honestly!
I may be in the minority, but I feel like Toyota could have done better with the Overtrail wheels. I think a slightly modified TRD wheel style would’ve served better. IDK.
Despite what our fake news friend "Naveen" says, I say Toyota/Lexus all day and all night. Best car maker this planet has ever seen, and it's not even close.
Well, this engine be as reliable and durable as the land cruiser and old GX V8 that was legendary and would last 400,000 miles with minimum maintenance. This is a spectacular car, beautiful, luxurious and capable but and here’s the big butt well the durability and longevity and reliability be bulletproof like the old ones. No one really knows but the answer most likely is not really. The land cruiser 200 and the GX or the pinnacle of vehicles that do not have equals. Well this new one last 400,000 miles. The jury is still out but it will take 85 grand to find out.

That looks really good with the exterior/interior color combo.
Wish the Over trial had the 3rd row option like the luxury version. I would prefer the meaty tires over the rubber band big rim version . Still debating on this or Sequoia TRD for a 4runner replacement.
Look at the Nissan Armada Pro-4x.
Love the styling
Best new truck in years… just a shame it’s $1mil
I'll wait four years to see how they depreciate, not into spending 80K to go scratch and break stuff. In 4 years no buyer will have off roaded this
Point being?
@@krane15maybe to buy a used one since most will not have been anywhere but suburbia lol
Sweet. Think I'm going to wait for the hybrid. Hope it's the non plug-in.
Are there really a lot of people waiting for an off road luxury vehicle? I'm not but I guess there must be a market for this
Love this truck
Where exactly this may shine is for people who keep this for 15 years or more honestly!
you said 8000 lbs towing, but your vid listed 9063lbs towing. which one is correct?
The larger number. Lexus just updated it from 8k
I think it’s overvalued because the interior but their take was it’s easier to clean
green is amazing!
The Lexus GX 550 is actually larger than the old 200 Land Cruiser…you are incorrect
This was great
Interesting that the price as tested is around the same as a Toyota Sequoia with the TRD offroad trim.
That's because no one really wants the sequoia with its useless cargo area.
@@shootloadrepeat itsnot useless it's just not level.
I may be in the minority, but I feel like Toyota could have done better with the Overtrail wheels. I think a slightly modified TRD wheel style would’ve served better. IDK.
Better deal than a Sequoia... And you get the cushy Lexus service.

9000lbs you mean?
Really enjoy your reviews.
Great suv, I’d hope with new technology that they could get a bit more fuel efficiency .
My garage is too small for this car, otherwise, I would buy it. Can't park this on the driveway, gonna be gone over night.
Well done, great vid!
eager to see what the new 4runner would look ...
Overall I like it a lot BUT all companies need to stop the fake sound.... Absolutely ridiculous.
...No 3rd row for the Overtrails is an unfortunate deal breaker ....will wait for the Armada Prox4 or get the Defender..
The LC 200 and GX550 are almost the same dimensions.
Despite what our fake news friend "Naveen" says, I say Toyota/Lexus all day and all night. Best car maker this planet has ever seen, and it's not even close.
best only in terms of reliability
@@kristians2704 Yes, but on a day to day basis, over several years, reliability is what it's all about.
@kristians2704 i keep my vehicles long term so in the end, that's all that matters to me.
Please compare Lexus GX with Defender 90
I'm-a Reday for some off-roading just thinking about it
Naveen what are your thoughts about China's BYD?
