This is my unique method for setting up the 4:1 and 3:1 Melee Hand cycle. It uses a significantly different setup than most commonly used strategies, but I find it to be significantly easier to recognize what to do, and when to do it.
If you are struggling with this 4:1 method, I highly recommend considering starting out with the 1:0 method while getting more comfortable with Olm's head. I have an in-depth guide for how to solo Olm for beginners here:

watched this guide like 10+ times and still crack up when you take excess damage from walking in the poison. Great content, keep it up!
Got my first deathless solo 3:1 thanks to this video. Believe it or not, getting my first inferno cape was actually _LESS_ frustrating than learning and getting the 3:1 down. Thank you for this guide, man. Seriously, you are genuinely such an excellent teacher.
Bro, only guide that has made sense. Thanks!
Awesome. Very glad to hear it helped :)
literally the only guide
Your 3:1 is the greatest guide ive ever watched, its been a month or so since i've watched this and since then i've been running solo CMs but I had to come back to show my appreciation for your work.
TYSM! Very proud of you for working through it and learning to solo CMs :) Any sick purps yet??
THIS IS SO INSANELY UNDER-RATED. GOD GUIDE
Broooo the amount of guides out there which are outrageously complicated and I've learned more in 10 minutes than I have in hours of others. Can't wait to try this out!!
I have one quick question, at 5:50 where he does the double auto, is the reason you didn't do a 3:1 (as you're attacking with 4:1) because the auto attack occurred with his head facing the middle? Just so I know and don't flap and go out of cycle. Cheers bud
@@conorr9308 So glad to hear you enjoyed the guide! I hope it helps!
To answer your question, at 5:50 you might have heard me say "because we splashed we take an extra hit", that means that I hit a bunch of zeroes in a row. unlucky. But he was already in the 4:1 cycle. So just because he turned mid and "saw" me he shot an extra basic attack, but it doesnt matter. Just stay in the 4:1 cycle, because we were already in it.
Kinda confusing. TBH if youre using a lance you will rarely see this happen. It was mostly because I was using a whip and its not nearly as accurate so "splashing" can happen more often.
GL!
@@VideoGameBotahh that makes more sense to me now in how splashing effects the cycle, that's super helpful again. Many thanks dude and thanks for responding so quick! Many GLs to you too
Been learning solo this last week and your videos are great and perfectly timed!
I mean.. I'm speechless. You explain it so simple and yet so effective. THE GOAT
Thanks! ^.^
Very well explained :)
The only part I'm still having trouble with is the different 'possibilities' of what can happen if Olm is not *immediately* in the 4:1 pattern.
I see you do a 1:0 cycle, but I can't seem to use that to "fix" him back into the 4:1 cycle, especially if I'm getting portals/acid/crystal rain thrown my way.
Thank you for such a succinct and straightforward guide
Thank you Man!!! Your guides are the best got my first quiver with your colosseum guides
love your videos, excited for new ones!
Great vid, finally managed to learn this properly. Commenting for algorithm cause you deserve it :)
Easily the best explanations holy shit this is great dude ty ❤

very clean steps, also tells you what to do on special or on double hit. legend.
BEAST! best vid of how to master 4:1 / 3:1 melee, 10/10!!
I hope it helps :)
this is so helpful, thank you!
Your guides are really good and the way you teach makes it really easy to get into, honestly I'd love to see guides for other content such as toa and it's related content (butterflying, red x, ect).
And if you would want to make longer guides, inferno would be amazing, but personally I really love the fact that your guides are split into "smaller" videos each meant to teach one thing/method instead of the whole content all at once.
Thanks for the feedback! I also think splitting the guides into smaller portions makes it much easier to digest. Needless to say, if I did an inferno guide (which I will, eventually) I would do something similar.
Red x baba and butterfly sound like fun guides. Maybe I should give that a go as well :o

broooo you're the only one with the most basic guide but it explains so much and i want to thank you so much for helping me learn olm melee hand from 1:0 to 4:1. i finally got a kill with 4:1 mastered and i even reset it like 3 times haha thank you tons dude you're the goat.

@@VideoGameBot How many stams would you recommend bringing in while learning? 2, 3?
@@air5723 With this method I recommend starting with at least 3 stams. As you get better and more comfortable with the technique you will be able to downsize to 2 stams.
I don’t understand 3-1 4-1 what does that mean
@@FajrLebanon 3 to 1, 4 to 1, 1 to 0 - these all mean "number of hits you DO to the number of hits you TAKE"
So 3 to 1 means that you hit olm three times for every one time he hits you. 1 to 0 means that you hit olm once per cycle but he doesn't hit you at all

ur a good teacher
good tutorial! gonna try your 1:0 with specials, seems better than sitting there tanking hits and hitting 3 times.edit: do you always start 4:1 with a 1:0 first? seems handy, i take way too much damage.
This has me feeling way more confident about learning 4:1 for solos. Been running duos with one of my GIM members and looking to try solos soon when he's not available.
Great to hear! It can be a struggle waiting for partners/finding team mates to run with. Having the option to run solos in your tool kit opens up a whole new world of possibilities
Mood. My GIM team only needs two more sets of masori to be done with ToA (we are incredibly spooned with 4 shadows), so being able to solo cox will help a ton with going for ancestral (we have 0 pieces in like 500 combined kc lmao) and more tbows (which again we are incredibly spooned and got one a month ago).
I've been dreading solo cox but VideoGameBot's videos make it seem much more approachable.

Perfect guide mate, just maybe let people know about the attack cycle of Olm and on the 3:1 that they need to hold a tick before repeating the cycle
After your 3th attack of 4:1 do you wait an extra tick on the yellow tile you move to or not? cause it seems like you are?
Awesome vids btw!
Yoo great job on the olm guides. I got my first solo kc because of you so thank you!! Can you consider doing a solo shadow guide for Olm's mage hand, please?
Thats awesome to hear! great job dude.
Wish respect to a shadow guide, as far as I know there are 3 different shadow methods:
12:0
8:1
2:0
the first 2 are very complicated. They require very fancy footwork, lots of things to memorize, and even attack style changes mid-cycle. I do not plan to make a guide on such a complicated method right now.
2:0, however, is very simple. even easier than 3:0. If I make a shadow guide, I would be teaching this method.
@@VideoGameBot Thanks! I didn’t know there were so many shadow methods. Would appreciate any vid. Keep up the content, king.
Great guide - can you share your tile markers please?
Got my first twisted kit just this morning @ 28 solo KC using your tips on 3:0, 1:0. Its crazy how much DPS you can do with 1:0 scythe. My pb so far is only about 20 seconds off GM time. Makes me wonder how worth using 3:1 scythe on CMs even is.
I'm not thinking normal GM time is possible with 1:0 scythe, so will be using this vid when I need to take down that challenge!
Thats so cool to hear man! GL on your gm time, and gz on kit!
1:0 is not ridiculously slow. Assuming zero tick loss, you lose about 16-20% dps throughout the entire olm fight relative to faster methods.
@@VideoGameBot Reporting back - Smoked the CM GM time today thx to you. Did 1:0 scythe and 2:0 shadow. Obviously not optimal but it got the job done!
@@quatha BROOO congratz!! thats wild man
First guide where someone finally explain how to reset properly ....
do you think its better to learn 4:1 first or just start with 3:1 if you already have a scythe/fang?
Whats if the special is not crystal but lighting or portal? Can I avoid them by quiting attacking and then go back to 4:1 until the special is crystals?
Thank you so much for the guide, this makes a lot of sense. I have one question about the movement between hit 2 and 3 in the 4-1 cycle. Is there a reason you walk to the right and back to the left between the hits?
There is a chance that he throws a flame wall. If you walk right then back left real quick you have a good chance of avoiding it!
Only necessary on flame phases or p3 when all the phase specific attacks are available. If you get crystal or acid p1/p2 you can skip the jump step and just walk towards thumb with your empty ticks.
With this movement you can still get a flame wall but you won’t be trapped in it. If you move out to the wall and get dragged in for the attack you can null the flame wall entirely
@@Akwler This is correct, and goes into better detail than I did with my comment
really would have liked to you go more in depth with 4:1 and show other different scenarios and how you deal with em. Been in olm for 5 hours. Its starting to click ok, but I dont get how to best deal with certain situations and just has me scratchin my head wondering what i did wrong and should have done.
Hi buddy, can i confirm we need to do the 1:0 if there's a special attack even if we have started on the correct cycle? i e starting from right hand side we've clicked attack on correct tick. Or, is this only if we're on the wrong attack tick?
If you are running 3:1 or 4:1 correctly (your movement is perfect) and olm is still casting special attacks, simply do a 1:0 and it will force him to stop doing special attacks.
At that point he will either automatically fall into cycle, or you can do "1 less hit" (aka 2:1 or 3:1, respectively) to force him into the 3:1 or 4:1 cycle.
would love to see a shadow mage hand guide!
The easy (2:0) method with shadow is just the exact same movement as 3:0 except your guy just doesn't end up firing one of the magic shots due to Shadow being slower.
@quatha they're asking about 12:0 and 8:1 for shadow.
Anyone using shadow should understand basic 3:0 and strive for the proper shadow method.
I learned through Muts shadow guide, highly recommend.
I've gotten a few solo kcs thanks to your guides, what's confusing me is how to move when I want to do 3:1 with 4t weapon after two olm autos to set up 4:1
Which hit am I skipping?
Ty for the awesome guides!
To do a 3:1 as you described you will want to do 3 hits, and then instead of staying for your 4th hit, run immediately back to the "left" tile where you begin your engage from.
When you hit him for your 3rd time, he will hit you once (with a basic attack), at that point you stop attacking and run left. Then go right back into cycle.
@@VideoGameBotI see, ty so much!
Great video! Iv managed to get in the 4:1 but when I need to reset I’m struggling to get back in the 4:1 I just keep getting specials I think it’s the turn of olm head I can’t get down???
Or panicking and moving to quick??
Is there a correlation between the tick you attach on during 3:0 mage hand, to what tick you should attack hand in 4:1 / start 4:1? So if 3:0 mage was on Tick 1 with the plugin, is there a quick way to get straight into the cycle knowing that?
My issue has been working out which tick I should be clicking the hand after running left, which would help recover after getting out of cycle
There is! Let's hypothetically say olm is attacking on tick 1:
When you do 3:0, you also attack on 1.
When you did 1:0, you began running on tick 1.
Now, when you do either 4:1 or 3:1 (doesn't matter which) you begin the cycle on tick 1.
Hope that helps!
Thanks so much for the reply. Appreciate the different approach you use for Olm, visual ticks are what clicks for me, so it's been super helpful.
Why do you do the running around when doing the 4 melee hits, can you explain that? I get the moving the head to the middle, but why not camp far right finger and hit him 4 times
The additional movement is to dodge potential flame walls. If you stand still you risk getting caught in the flame.
You also need to be somewhat close to your middle tiles to end your 4:1 cycle because you dont have enough ticks to run from pinky to mid (after attacking) in 4 ticks.
7:45 at these two clicks at pinky and middle neccesary?
I don't struggle with 4:1 once I'm in cycle really, I struggle getting into cycle from mage hand. Any tips?
I like to start with a 1:0, then go immediately into 4:1. You could even do two 1:0's and land both dwh specs during 1:0, then go straight into 4:1
just wondering if you have a quick answer as to what tile to start from for both mage hand and melee hand if you die and re enter the fight
I don't have a good answer for this one :\ Anything can happen when you re-enter Olm's chamber. We dont know where in cycle he will be. I am pretty sure he will keep turning his head on the same tick he was before you died though.
@@VideoGameBot That makes sense. Just go back in and put him back into the cycle. Great videos! i did get my first deathless KC yesterday! The 3-0 mage and 1-0 melee wasnt perfect but we brute forced it haha.
@@requiemtopclips6265 Awesome! Very proud of you. Practice makes perfect, keep it up and go get some solo purps :)
how do u do mage hand with shadow?
literally just running from sie to side i still get hit lmao i cannot understand this at all im doing identical things. does it have to be pick perfect???? i keep getting portals randomly
It definitely has to be tick perfect. I high recommend perfecting your 3:0 mage before jumping into methods like 4:1 or 3:1. Easing into the fight mechanics starting with 3:0 mage and 1:0 melee will make things significantly easier when learning.
If still having trouble, considering practicing head mechanics. No attacks. Just run far left and far right and pay attention with how the head spins with respect to your visual metronome.
Take note: if you notice the head is turning on tick 3 for example, that means you need to click on tick 2, so your avatar begins running on tick 3 (same tick olm turns his head)
I hope this helps. Don't give up. Go in with a learners mindset. Things get easier with practice!
So essentially you want to rotate its attack cycle so that you're left with one basic attack into an empty event? And so does turning the head reset him into basic, empty event every time?
In depth question, love it. You're right!
Basically, when he head is "turning" he would actually be casting a special attack + a basic attack (turn left, turn right)
Then when you're hitting him, he does a basic attack + an empty event.
That's exactly what is happening while running 3:1 or 4:1!
You got it
@@VideoGameBot Very insightful, just knowing those details helps me understand the bigger picture of why that's done in that specific way. I cannot express how thankful I am for your guides, they've really helped me not only understand a lot of concepts, but also fine tune these mechanics.
i can get into cycle but the issue im having is even if i find im getting hit by a special i do a 1:0 and on my next round where i go back to 4:1 im still having specials come out. can anybody help me figure this out?
Your not counting poison trail/crystals as specials are you? Some of em are normal attacks
whats the name of the plugin to see the ticks above you?
That's the "Visual Metronome" plugin! I highly recommend checking out the video link in the description, it goes into much detail about how the plugin can help sync up the head
why do you click 1 tile back of the hand in between attacks? is that necessary?
its useful for dodging potential flame wall attacks. In this video it didn't happen, but sometimes he throws a flame wall on the tick i do that little "step back" technique. If you get into a habit of doing it all the time, you will most likely always dodge flame walls
@@VideoGameBot thanks man! the rooms are easy thanks to your guide, and i have cleared olm by deathpiling but trying not to deathpile :D
@@austinlogan4247 Have you seen my guide "how to kill olm at any level, with any gear"?? I use the 1:0 method, which is significantly easier to learn than 4:1 or 3:1.
Regardless of your method, wishing you all the luck!
@@VideoGameBot yes, but i have close to max gear and max stats so would like to push through the learning. i can clear olm now somewhat consistently
let's say I 1:0 twice and do 4:1 after will it be 100% in cycle all the time ?
No.
Lets say you do a 4:1, and olm uses one of his special attacks (lightning, portals, or crystals). At this point you do a single 1:0
After that you go back into the 4:1 cycle. He will either be automatically set (50%) or he will use a double normal attack (50%).
If hes set, just do 4:1 til the hand dies. If he uses 2 basic attacks, perform a 3:1 (and then he will be set)
What exactly did you mess up at 8:21? You were in the 3:1 cycle and your tile hit exactly where you were supposed to run to?
Really good question. I didn't lag a tick on the "left" tile. When you do 3:1 you gotta lag 1 tick (come to a complete stop) on the left tile before attacking again.
For reference to 4:1, you do NOT lag a tick. 4:1 is a constant movement pattern
@@VideoGameBot ok thank you! Might try out 3:1 again but if not I’ll just run 1:0 melee band with Scy 😂
@BlackBeltKilla there's no harm in doing 1:0. I've done it hundreds of times :) go get those fatty solo purps, and gl learning 3:1!

You werent able to show here a 4:1 with olm hitting you twice.
In the video you said "you do an extra attack, so you do 3 quick attacks and he is back on cycle"
It got me a little confused. If Olm does two attacks in a row, should I attack Olm 5 times or 3 times instead of 4?
"do 1 less hit". If you're doing 4:1, and you see olm do a double attack, do a 3:1, and he will be set :)
Watch this timestamp.
ua-cam.com/video/_KruQfUdVWI/v-deo.html
Sorry, I heard "more" instead of "less". Don't know why.
I am having difficult setting him up when he does two standard attacks.
My third hit should be in the thumb instead of the middle finger, right? I think I cant reach the left side in time if I do this third hit in the middle finger, or can I?
And this 3:1 to set olm should be done after a 4:1 where I see the two consecutive attacks, right?
Also another thing I see people saying is that to set olm I should wait a tick in my third hit of the first 4:1 I throw at Olm.
In this pathing you show in the video, is already a tick late?
@@higoralmeidamazzeo661 your 3rd hit can be middle finger, but your 4th hit should definitely be on the thumb. I dont think you will be able to get left fast enough if youre not 4th hitting from the thumb.
Yes, the 3:1 should be directly after a 4:1 where you see 2 regular attacks.
When people talk about "lagging" a tick, I think they are probably referring to 3:1. You have to lag a tick after your 3rd hit while doing 3:1. 4:1 is tick perfect or you fall out of sync.
Thanks bro. I just did my first 4:1 with no death and got the A Not So Special Lizard CA 😅
I did 4:1 in the first and second phase and 1:0 in the last phase, cuz I didnt want to mess up when the hand was healing. It went perfect. I was able to set the loop after getting hit by olm two times in a row, I did a 3:1 hitting the last hit on the thumb. I feel more confortable this way, don't know why
bro I swear I can do inferno hmt and any other difficult content that you can imagine but I can't solo cox because there are so many 'IFs'
Just do 1.0 melee it's an extra stam pot and takes 5mins longer
its weird, the methods seem simple, yet im seriously terrible at it lol. all i can think is that im not timing the head right because the actual movement patterns seem so simple
I suggest starting with 3:0 and 1:0 to get the head mechanics down. understand how the head works. Dont jump straight into 3:1 or 4:1 until you can do 3:0 perfectly. If youre struggling with 3:0, focus on simply running the head without attacking, just run far left, and far right, and use your visual metronome to understand what tick to "move" on. If olm turns his head on tick 4, you need to click on tick 3 (that way you also run on tick 4).
Dont get frustrated, take it slow, go in with a learners mindset and if you die its ok, the only thing you lose is points. Take it small steps at a time, and work your way up to the higher level tech
@@VideoGameBot definitely right I think where I was going wrong was starting the fight with a dwh spec and then just trying to get in rhythm with the 3:0 but whereas your guides specify starting with the mage to be on a certain tick is what I need to do until I’m more confident with the mechanics of the head
@@VideoGameBot just fyi, i got perfect olm solo today and it was ezzzzz, confident with getting into cycle at pretty much any time now even if i wasnt paying attention at the beginning, doing 2:0 shadow 3:1 scythe and 4:1 head phase now
