We actually are just glad you're carrying heavy books around in case you need to defend yourself, hide from an ex or hold down a picnic blanket. Carry on!
Most libraries don't have enough room on the shelves for all the books at once, so just taking them home and bringing them back is helping! Plus, it shows the library is being used, which helps them get funding.
@@DanikaLeighEllisi think people really fail to think about how full our shelves are. So checking out 25 books, never reading them, but bringing them back 3 weeks later is really helpful, especially when the cycle continues!
Brb going to avoid the library multiple times. No joke, though, I wish I could do library books, but my ADHD is terrible and I am absolutely unable of returning books on time. It's awful, and the stress it gives me about fines and about owing something to someone is a lot less manageable than shelling out to buy new books every now and again.
In the 90’s I was a teacher at a high school that didn’t really have a library. I went to a nearby city library and asked if there was a checkout limit. They said no.🤣 After they helped me fill my trunk and asked why I was checking out so many books, we started a great relationship that lasted the two years I spent in that district. Shortly after I left a limit was imposed. I like to think it had nothing to do with me.
The worst offenders of returning library books you haven’t read are librarians! We are constantly surrounded by amazing looking books that we can read for free! I’m a librarian and feel like all of my coworkers are constantly talking about how they’ll never be able to get to all of their checkouts. I probably read about 2/3rds of what I take out and the only reason that’s not worse is because I’m constantly holding myself back.
also a librarian, my dad made fun of me the last time he came over for having what seemed like half the library's collection chilling on my shelves at home 👀 of which I probably ended up reading, like, two...
This is exactly what the library is for. There is nothing I like more than browsing the shelves and borrowing what catches my eye. I encourage patrons to do the same, I often get asked if it's okay to place holds to see if it's what a patron is looking for and in the wise words of Yo Gabba Gabba: "Try it, you'll like it!" and if you don't, you can bring it back when you return your items - no harm, no foul. Depending on your library's collection and their stock rotation, it works in the next patron's favour because they wouldn't have had the chance to borrow it if you hadn't placed it on hold in the first place!
I've never not overestimated the number of books I could get to in a given library period. There's something about the library that lends itself to fits of optimism.
Love this idea! What i like to do is if i get the urge to go book shopping (which i really do not need to do), i go to the library instead and go wild. I will get literally every book that catches my eye, and take them all home. Then if i read them all (which never happens) great! If i don't get to any of them, no harm done. I haven't spent any money or been wasteful, and so far it has always worked to curb that desire to purchase books.
I love that you read so many library books! I read almost all of my books from the library and I'm always astounded by how many people buy books when you can usually access them for free.
I am a librarian and I love to read. I was just putting books back on the shelves and found one I wanted and checked it out. 😂 Our system doesn't keep up with what we have checked out.
as someone who does little craft w/ me sit-downs to talk about books - majority from the library - this video and the news that you’ll continue your craft series fills me with so much joy 🥹
OMG! Kayla, I do this as well. Take out 5/7 library books and then do not get to finish them all. this is a great concept 💛 good idea to re-loan the books you returned without reading. I have 4 borrowed currently and in the middles of a KU book on my kindle.
I know we all love Liam but it is good that you’re keeping an eye on your mental health and knowing when it’s too much. You have awesome parents and being able to have a night to yourself from time to time is needed.
The library is honestly just the best, most wholesome thing! I get almost all my books from there. So glad you enjoyed Look Closer, it was 5 stars for me. I love a thriller that just completely knocks me on my head. I do think you'll enjoy Man Made Monsters, it's such a uniquely told collection of linked stories!
As a Floridian, I have a lot of experience with sunspots! The best way to get rid of them is lasers in microneedling, but there are a few topical products that can help. For me acids works best (SA specifically) because they have exfoliate deeper levels of the skin, but there are other ingredients called Tyrosinase Inhibitors that can help fade dark spots as well, but those are harder to find. I’ve found Korean skincare lines work the best, but La Roche Posay has a really popular one too!
I really need to remember to use my library more, for my wallet's sake if nothing else. I always forget it's a good way to try stuff I'm unsure about or even excited about without trying to figure out how to make it work on my shelves or in my budget. I also am terrified of checking something out and forgetting all about it, then returning it unread or holding onto it for ages. I'm so glad you completed this challenge for yourself! Hopefully more people (like myself) remember to use their library after this!
Watching the video and thinking - I just added The God of Endings to my TBR list because I saw an Instagram post about it being like Miss Honey. So I look back and it was YOUR Instagram post talking about a review on Goodreads mentioning it was like Miss Honey. 😄😄😄 So basically I’m taking your recommendations without even realizing it’s your recommendation. ☺️
10:15 As a person with synesthesia, I am now determined to read that book!!! I had a situation at school where we had to watch a documentary series over several weeks, and one of the names of the characters tasted like v0mit to me. Luckily I don't have many debilitating symptoms, that was one of the few times I've had very negative things associated with synesthesia. The comment about languages was very interesting to me, because I also experienced that but never thought about it at the time, and Sign language is the only other language I've ever had success at learning, which makes sense as there's no "different colours" associated with the same word meaning, it's just adding a movement as well. I think synesthesia oddly makes it easier for me to learn sign language because I have one extra association than most people.
Same same SAME!!!!!! Not in school, but at the public library. And I literally only picked it up because I fuckin love mangoes and was happy it was in the title, LOL. And it was also how I learned about synesthesia!
I had "Remarkably Bright Creatures" on hold. Waited forever and I missed it! My library keeps holds on the shelf for 7 days before going to the next person.
I go through my library books I returned without reading too so I can try again to finish before they’re due! It helps a lot with keeping the books I wanted to read at the front of mind instead of forgetting about them!
My book club read The God of Endings and everyone gave it 4 stars. What I find interesting is that none of us could stand the teacher storyline but we all enjoyed the writing style and would read from the author again.
I love the crafting! If you decide to do another cozy mystery series I would recommend Books Can Be Deceiving by Jenn McKinlay. It features a small New England town librarian, and she has this thing called “crafternoon” where the group gets together in a room in the library to do crafts together, eat treats, and talk about books. It sounds wonderful :-)
Your opening comment about getting a bunch of books from the library and not reading many of them is me. I will get them and read what I’m drawn toward. Later, I may again borrow and read the other books. My husband gets upset (he’s not a reader) and doesn’t understand my logic. 😝

I think the romance and thriller genres both can have the same issue where the tropes and twists that make them fun, can become stale after awhile, and make the genre feel receptive. I’ve found that while I like romance books often, it’s hard for one to surprise me enough or impact me enough to rate it a 5.
It's so neat that you can see how many books you ever checked out of the library, when you checked them out, etc. and that you can rate them (if I saw that correctly). The library page here can't do that; you can't even open a link in a new tab orz

I *think* the scale out of 10 is for intrigue - Kayla's done videos where she reads the first chapter and rates it out of 10 for how much she wants to keep reading. A low score doesn't mean she won't read it, but that she was less hooked compared to another book. Overall, Kayla rates out of 5 stars when she's finished the book.
I heard a mention of The Woman in the Library once, I read it, and now I haven't heard another single person talk about it and I need to know what others thing of it.
I currently have 9 books checked out from my local library (and 7 e-books) and it's starting to become a real problem. I dropped off 3 books today and had to pick up 3 more holds. I need to be temporarily banned from there for my own good.

I feel so embarrassed when i re-borrow a book that I previously returned unread 😅 Like I'm inconveniencing the library in some way and someone is out there looking at my loans records shaking their head.
Random wondering: is that pool at Kayla's house? She always says they're "at the pool" like they have to travel to get there, but it doesn't look like a public space and they always have it to themselves 🤔. Im so curious lol
Oh god I have a recurring dream where my brakes fail on a hill and it's so terrifying and stressful. One of my biggest fears is it happening in real life.
with lies we sing to the sea, i haven’t read it but i saw on twitter and goodreads that the author hadn’t actually read the odyssey (which she wrote a retelling of) so it isn’t accurate to the source material and i think that’s why nobody liked it? she said that in an interview but that interview got taken down after all the controversy
That's what I heard as well, among a list of inaccuracies recurring in the book. I feel so conflicted about it because I myself probably wouldn't notice the lack of research, so should I just go into it understanding an author can do whatever they want with their interpretation ? Or steer clear because the knowledgeable people say it's not worth my time. 🤔 So much to ponder.
I have an irrational fear of returning library books I haven’t read as if the librarian will, like, quiz me on the contents of the book.
Omg stop 😂😂😂
SAME lol

My library has a yearly, running total amount that I have saved from checking out books, instead of purchasing them.
I’m interested in the thriller you read and the god of endings
ah, I need to read 'a history of fear' like yesterday
Great vlog 📚🥤🌈💐🍉
Random wondering: is that pool at Kayla's house? She always says they're "at the pool" like they have to travel to get there, but it doesn't look like a public space and they always have it to themselves 🤔. Im so curious lol
I always forget to read my library books 😅
Borrowing library books, having them sit on the shelf & then return them without reading is my life 😂😂😂
i love checking out books and not reading them lmao it keeps the library alive hahahaha
Oh god I have a recurring dream where my brakes fail on a hill and it's so terrifying and stressful. One of my biggest fears is it happening in real life.
Omg my cats name is Mango!
checking books out from the library for free >>> spending actual money on books in this economy
with lies we sing to the sea, i haven’t read it but i saw on twitter and goodreads that the author hadn’t actually read the odyssey (which she wrote a retelling of) so it isn’t accurate to the source material and i think that’s why nobody liked it? she said that in an interview but that interview got taken down after all the controversy
My cat, named Mango (he was mango colored) passed away last summer.... TOO SOON jk I love seeing reminders of my furbaby

Honestly bringing them home and not reading them, same
❤❤❤
