In this video I put my woodworking skills to the test and make the round door for my Lord of the Rings hobbit hole. The door, on the inside, is made from quarter sawn white oak. On the outside it is made from fir. It is stained with General Finishes, oil based, antique cherry wood stain. It is clear coated with ProLuxe satin finish.

Wow your door came out amazing and I completely agree that your hinge turned out better too! Thanks so much for sharing and can’t wait for the next one!
I love the way the curved boards look like nice hardwood flooring!
Love watching this series! I think green would look the best 👍
I'm glad you've enjoyed it! Thanks for the color suggestion!
Looks great. The door will look great any color you choose.
Lovely Lovely Lovely. The brackets look so organic. A contrast to the masonry. I can't wait to see the full effect when you do the interior ❤
As a Brit, I have to say it "should" be green. However, this might be my childhood upbringing as "British Racing Green" was everywhere when I was a lad. I highly recommend it.
If it were a vibrant blue, I'd think it would be destroyed by Orcs at the first opportunity 😮
The racing, and therefore, traditional colours of the USA are now Blue with a white stripe. But they changed this from an earlier Red colour.
I suggest (and I might have been over thinking it 😂) therefore that your door could be a rich RED. This wouldn't hurt the eyes, and if you got hold of "Post Office red" it would also tie in with letterboxes and phone boxes that definitely would have been around at Tolkien's time.
... or green. I'm not fussed.😂
Cheers 🇬🇧
So many great ideas! I might have to build a few more Hobbit Holes to try them out on:-)
Wow a beautiful handmade exterior door.
This is gonna be amazing when it's done! It's already amazing! That door is solid, and I agreed with your logic the whole way. Excellent job man. Paint the door any bright color you want. If memory serves, there is a door of every color on the rainbow at Hobbiton, because the hobbits love bright cheery colors.
Thank you! I think you're right. Any bright primary leaning color should look good.
Fabulous result! Always great to see someone stretch their skills, especially when the project is this cool.
Thanks! Yes, I was very challenged by this build and learned a lot from doing it.
As a college student who dreams of building stuff like this when life permits, I absolutely love your videos and am inspired to do the same some day.
I hope you get a chance, too!
This is a professional job! (I still believe it will be more beautiful with green :D)
I'll have to take a vote when I get ready to paint:-)
I always look forward to these. My favorite series. So inspiring, man.
Thanks, Jordan!
My votes for sunburst yellow
I'm leaning that way, too. But green seems to be more popular.
Great work and attention to detail. Being a boat builder I love the use of the steambox. I'm kind of partial to Sage Green and Fern Green.
Thanks! I think I may need to take a vote on the colors. I've gotten a lot of great suggestions.
I'm sure you have, you did a great job all the way around. The door deserves the utmost consideration. @@Odd-Lots
The door looks great! Thanks for the commentary at the end.
Thanks!
You have such good taste . Fantastic craftsmanship 👍😎🇫🇷
Thanks, Pascal!
You’re incredible that’s absolutely awesome
Thanks for checking out the video!
I've been wondering about how you were making out this past week, good to hear from you. The door/hinge wow!! I like that you are using regular tools. I had to stop and go over your steam drum a few times. Looking forward to the next update!!
Thanks for watching. Yeah, Forged Commodities did an amazing job making the hinges. I was blown away!
oscar nominated
Excellent wood working - great job - excited to see the build continue!
Thank you.
Wow your craftsmanship is awesome! I love it!
Thank you!
Looks really great
Thanks very much for uploading these, I enjoy them immensely. I’ve been looking forward to seeing the door and it didn’t disappoint. As with your other videos the storytelling and editing is excellent and the craftsmanship is fantastic. Your design is great, location is great, the fact that you’re doing it so well and over budget just out of the love of it; all great. I’m watching in London, a place I love, but I also enjoy the escapism of watching you in the forest there. Hope you’re deriving great satisfaction from a job done so well.
You're welcome! Thanks for following along! It always makes me happy to hear when someone from the UK is watching. I wouldn't be building this without the literary heritage your country gifted to the world:-)
Really awesome build and video. Spend some time thinking about the latch. How about a fun wooden slide latch through the door with a secret way to lock it. I’m sure there’s tons of videos on the Tube. Cheers.
Thank you!
Amazing
I've seen some of your other videos and you Sir are very talented. I'm planning to build my own woodshop in my backyard and I'm trying to convence my Wife that it needs a round hobbit door. but I want it to be accessable by a 6 foot person so it is what it is.
I hope you get to build the shop, round door and all!
Amazing. Great job 😊👍
Thanks 😊
looking great so far sir
Thanks:-)
Awesome looking door. Yellow could be cool. Thanks as always for sharing!
You're welcome. Thanks for following along!
Where did you find the door hardware
💥💥💥😎
I think what you've done is wonderful and this is no critique against you, but every one wants to do the Baggins door, and that's fine, it's the one everyone knows, but there were more Hobbits who lived there, so you can customize your door as you see fit. The color, fixtures, everything is changeable to create your own version. Be your own Hobbit. Loved the video
I think you're right. I'm leaning towards sunburst yellow 😀
It looks like you have built two hobbit houses now??? or is it three? incredably amazing!
It feels like three:-) But it's just one that keeps getting more complex and expensive:-/
Kelly green trim around a sun yellow door IMHO
Oh, Nice! I haven't thought about doing two colors.
I would like to see a nice yellow in the center tobacco sunburst.
That would look great!
The door should be green with the proper runes painted on.
The runes is such a good idea! I didn't even think about that. Thanks!
@@Odd-Lots There were no runes painted on in the books. Just a round green door with Gandalf's "G" rune scratched into it. So look up the G rune and scratch it in the paint or the dwarves will never know your hole is the right one.

Hallo from Denmark. Paint the door red
Thanks for the suggestion! My favorite cooking pans are from Denmark: Scanpan
C’est quoi la planche pour fabriquer des goujons. Ou tu as trouvé cela.
What sort of latch mechanism do you plan to use?
A screen latch. There is a little clip of it towards the end. I bought the wrong style, though, and it wouldn't work with the door.
Fire Engine Red
Hey man do you have a idea for the color of the interior walls? That tannish color, I can’t figure out what it is. I have scoured the internet
It's easy for a bad carpenter to make a round table.
But hard to make a doot?
I wonder why?
Hmmm...framing looks like pine to me...
He knows the Hobbit holes were all built to scale right?
