Thank you for your video, I too have been looking at heating options so I can work out in my garage with out freezing. I too purchased a electric unit much like yours, comfort zone, cz220, it is a three stage unit that has a 3000, 4000, and 5000w setting, turn it on high for about 30 minutes and turn it on low after that, keeps the work space comfortable, however I am sooty to here you paid so much at home cheapo, bought mine at Rural King for $79.99, not saying it is of the same quality, but it is pretty much the same design, so for others out there, ship around for your best price options, good day
I have one of those in my 24' X 32' shop and it will maintain the heat once I bring it up to temp with my torpedo heater (takes about 15 minutes) My electric bill doesn't seem to be effected much because I only use it for around 6 hours a day or so. They are quiet and really work well! I installed and wired mine myself and had it inspected for insurance purposes.
Thanks for helping to decide on how to heat my shop. Northern tool has it on sale for $89.00 and Amazon has it for $99.00 on sale
They ate not a Fahrenheit but basically hey ate the same. One is 5000 watts and the other is 5160 watts. My shop is only 16' x 10' so either one should work. I can't wait to have a warm shop!!
One of these 5000 watt heaters raises the temp in my 960sq ft cathedral ceiling steel garage 20 degrees. I installed a second one and they’ll bump up the temp 40+ degrees with a drum fan on the floor blowing toward the ceiling. Once it gets up to temp I’ll turn the thermostats down and they’ll cycle as needed. $95/ea heater plus $17/ea wall 240VAC line themrostat. Way cheaper than a $400 single 10k watt.
Adding the wall thermostat was a perfect addition to this heater. The internal thermostat stopped working at one point and I didn’t really trust it to begin with.
Propain overhead heater with electric fan works great for my three car garage. The unit was about $275. Price of install was 165. I allready had a gas tank. Best rout to go for me.
A 3 car garage is a big space to heat so I agree overhead gas/propane heater would be best. I had them in a warehouse I rented once and they worked great. Just can’t have an open flame propane heater that exhausts to the garage. It must be able to exhaust outside or your asking for big trouble. That’s why my propane rocket heater would keep my garage hot but I couldn’t run it for more than a couple minutes. It would set off carbon monoxide detectors rather quickly. Thanks for watching!
@@ShorePointCreations so I guest the propane ones are not safe?
Northern tool has some great shop heaters. I got a 35k btu 220v from them for 185.00 delivered to my door and it works great for my 30x30 garage.
There are a ton of great options out there. This was just the one I researched and decided to pull the trigger on based off of others use of it. It works great for my garage and now that I added an external thermostat it works even better. Thanks for commenting and have a good one!
Is your garage insulated?
At the time of the video, it was not. I have since moved to a blithering house with a 2 1/2 car garage and it is now insulated with 2” foam sheets in the wall. It gives me an R13 value so that along with the heater really works great. But back when my old garage was not insulated the heater still worked amazing.
Infrared / radiant units are better in dusty environments. Fan units sooner or later have dust and filter problems.
I can see your point on this. I have had this heater for 2 years and it still runs great. The only thing I don’t like about radiant / infrared heaters is to have it warm up a space is tough. It usually warms what’s in front / below it. This heater has no filter and a contained heating element. If the fan / element is dusty blow it off with air and your brand new. Warms entire garage in less than an hour and that’s when it’s 14 outside. Thanks for commenting. Have a good one!
Nice. I just picked one up from amazon for my one car garage. I'm going to use it for winter garage projects in northern Alberta Canada. Everything I've researched tells me I made the right choice. I'm a bit mechanically challenged so I have an electrician completing the instal. Thanks for the vid.
You won’t regret it. If you are not used to installing electrical devices, I wouldn’t try to gain experience working with a 220volt line. Could be a bad experience! Good luck with it and thanks for commenting.
Jay you really good at youtube
Glad you like your electric heater. I love my wood stove. Get my wood for free. Doesn't cost me anything.
Why do you have NM cable running stapled to the wall unprotected? do you realize that if you have a fire, and they find that, your insurance in null and void?
s this safe for a woodshop? With sawdust in the air all the time? I use a dust collector but still dust in the air.
Thanks for sharing.
However, you garage seems to be insulated and having dry wall installed and painted, not having it air conditioned will cause moisture build up inside the wall and the formation of mold and rotting wood...
I think a middle ground solution would be to have some kind of thermostat to keep it a bare minimum when you are not around.
I have run a Blue flame for 20 years L/P gas never got sick they have a built in " co " Carbon monoxide sensor will turn off , Had a wood stove also small potbelly. I have Moved and built a new shop added a blue flame it only heating half the shop runs non stop, 20 out doors the shop will be 65 I have R 15 in my ceiling walls and OSB on the walls and ceiling They changed the design of the blue flame its not near as good as my last one Im looking to add electric back up looking at reviews I set 2 fans up to move the air , Not sure I need a 12,000 BTU or if I could get by with a 5000 BTU electric heater . i ran the blue flame 15 days only used 20% out of a 250 gallon tank before I had my insulation and OSB up , last month I ran it 20 days used 10% ran 24/7 it never turns off like my old one did , thinking of running gas daytime electric at night ? Blue flame are a home wall heater 30,000 BTU 65 is a good temp but the last 16 foot of the shop is 45 you feel it walking from one end to the other.
nice “I just do it myself” lol 👍
I agree!
Good video, thanks for the info.
Nice video. Too bad I can't take you seriously with that giants shirt on.
There’s always next year....or the year after that.
Go Giants!
The downside to the 240v heaters is you can't hook them up to a smart plug. I like to run routines and voice commands with Alexa.
You can hook up a Mysa Smart thermostat. I use an external thermostat that is basic but the Mysa allows you to connect the heater to Alexa. Looks like it does what you are looking for. I’m going to check it out. I like having that option as well.
Thank you for thos video. I've been looking at this size heater by a different name. My shop is 10'x16'_ I figure about the size of a one-car garage, or a little smaller. Do you think I'll need something larger? Any input will be appreciated. The shop is just an insulated shed and if I had to do it differently, I would have gone at least 2ft wider. I really wanted a wood stove but until I get the layout perfectly for me, I think this type heater will work out nicely. Im looking at one on Northern Tool for $89, reg. $159.00 and at 5000 BTU's. I'm not out there everyday, so a small increase in the electric bill won't hurt to much. Thanks again
For a shop your size, a 5,000 BTU heater should be perfect. I heat a 2 car garage with 5,000 BTUs and it can get extremely warm in there. Hope this helps you! Thanks for the comment.
@@ShorePointCreations Hey Thanks for the free back! I just ordered one from Northern Tool that's 5000 btu. It was only $89.00 on sale. I'd rather it be to warm than not warm enough. I can change an outlet out but I've never done wiring, so when it arrives, I'll get an electrician over. I only have 2-220 outlets in the shop, so Il have him install 2 more. I originally had just 2 put in when it was outfitted with electricity. One near the loft since I knew I was putting an air filter hanging from the ceiling near it that is 220. The other I had put on the back wall because I knew when I purchase a lathe that it will be 2hp. I want a lot of torque to turn big bowls and the placement of the lathe was going to be in the back corner. I plan on hanging drappery tracks above the lathe so I can hang a clear shower curtain. The idea with the plastic cutaon is to keep the chips in one area instead of all over the shop. Thanks again with your help. I look forward to binge watching your video's! And I subscribed!!
Thanks for subscribing and your great comment. Good luck with your heater. It sounds like you got a nice heater for a great price. Your electrician will probably have to hard wire the 220 line to the heater if it is like mine. It’s not that hard to do as long as you have room in your panel for the double 30amp breaker. Enjoy your nice warm shop while you turn!
I need a heating solution for 110v as I do not have affordable access to 220v.
Nice shirt. Go BIG BLUE!
Thanks! There is always next year for the Giants. I’m tired of saying that year after year. Have a good one!
@@ShorePointCreations They beat Dallas.....
@@michael7324 But of course the Eagles couldn't handle their job and Washington is going to playoffs and Giants are going home. Better draft position anyway. It would have been tough for the Giants to beat Tampa Bay and Green Bay next in the playoffs. Maybe better this way.
Nice .
Easy to say combine that bad boy with your home bill to , no way forced air is the way to go.
lost me at 220v...
@Carlos Tribe I have a 3 car garage man cave/gym/ billiard room fully insulated. Do u think this would help iny 3 car garage.? did you seal proof gaps in garage doors windows etc.. To make it more efficient??
Hiii, so I work from my garage. It is NOT insulated at all. It's a 1.5 car garage. What is my best affordable and best route to do?
I am considering spending a little more and getting an efficient ductless mini split unit and use it year round.
That’s the ideal way to go!!!! My next move will be to that. It will help deal with the humidity in the garage during summer. Will save your tools from rusting in the humid summer air. Thanks for the comment!
@@ShorePointCreations There are units you can buy that are DIY installation and that is how I would go. If you ever did that, it would make a good video.
One drawback is the outdoor unit is going to be visible and for my situation the most obvious location is in front of the house, which is not going to be a great look.
I bought one and instructions said keep 12” from ceiling and no less then 8’ from floor. So took back
Mine is about 12” off the ceiling which is what the included bracket sets it at and 6ft from the ground to the bottom of heater. Kinda hard to make it no less than 8’ from the floor and 12” from the ceiling if you have 8’ ceilings. I’d love to see how they worked out that math. lol
Nice t shirt. I buy from the sale bin too! Garage clothes. 😝
Just saw your post. I had to look at the video to see what I was wearing. Go G-men!! Where they are going is straight to the bottom of the pack this year. 🤬🤬🤬🤬
I would like to know what blade you use for re-sawing with that grizzly bandsaw?
I always use Timberwolf blades. For resawing I use a 3/4” 3 TPI blade. Hope that helps. I have the extension kit on it so it expanded my resaw capacity.
Could you share the type of filter you have used?
For the heater there is no filter. I blow out the heater with compressed air every month but not much comes out. I have 2 air filtration systems over my heaviest dust producers so not much gets up in the air.
How is it working now? Still functioning properly?
The heater works absolutely perfect. I moved from a one car garage to a two car garage and it keeps my entire garage warm. Once I turn it on the shop is warm within 15 minutes or less. I was thinking about upgrading to the larger one but I don’t know if it is necessary.
I wish I knew how to heat my uninsulated garage. It has block wall and is basically a car and a half wide.. would this work?
It should. It may run more often because your not containing the heat. My 2 car garage is block walls as well. I went to Home Depot and purchased the 2” think foam board. It has a R10 or R13 value. My thoughts were pay more upfront to insulate and save $$$ over years of heater use.
I used torpedo kerosene for years, but u do have to be careful. They make some with thermostat . I used it to paint cars
How much has your electric bill gone up?
Not that much. I turn it on when I’m in the shop only and it heats a 1 car garage quickly. I just moved to a new house with a 2 car garage so I may have to get the bigger model. Thanks for watching!!!
@@ShorePointCreations do you have an update on this? I have a two car detached garage and I'm trying to pick something that would work for me. Thanks
It’s not really noticeable. I only run it when I’m in my garage so I haven’t see a rise at all. I moved to a 2 car garage now and it warms to nicely. I also have insulated my walls with 2” foam board so that helps I’m sure. It’s a great heater so I would highly recommend.
@@ShorePointCreations thanks! I appreciate the response. I'll have to get some insulation in my garage for anything to be effective. Open soffits right now arent doing me any favors 😅
I run a bigmaxx natural gas heater and it cost me $120 for the year to heat at 68 degrees.
I would be curious to know how much power it uses.
Very little. I don’t use it all the time. Just when I go in the shop I turn it on and it warms up my 2 car garage within minutes. I replaced the built in thermostat with an external one and it works even better. If you have any other questions please reach out. 👍👍
@@ShorePointCreations hi so how much more did your electric bill come to?
About $25 per month. I moved during the same time to a bigger house but during my last few months at the old house it only went up $25 to $35 at worst.
@@ShorePointCreations how many hours a month do you think you run the heater during winter ?
Was it really complicated to install? How much you think an electrician would charge? Garage is a detached garage has shop light a outlets.
Changuito Nahhhh.....you basically need a 30amp double breaker and a run of 10/2 wire. Connect the wire ends to the heater and breaker and then connect the ground to the panel. CYA on my part.....if you unsure in the least bit, get an electrician to do it. You don’t want to guess on this connection.
5kw x .10(kw/hr) X 200(hrs/mo)= $100/month extra on electric bill. Less hours drops it accordingly.
That’s really good to know! If my bill goes up by even $300 a month I’m not going to argue with that. The amount of time I spend in the garage building projects for customers would pay for that in the first couple hours.
@@ShorePointCreations And the .10 is the power cost in your area. Being you are east coast it could be MUCH higher than that ! You may want to check it and plug in the correct amount. I think I just read somewhere the average is $0.17 which changes the amount pretty good. At 17cents/kwh the monthly bill increase would be $170/mo.
I am in my shop 15 hours a day with the temp set at 60-65 degrees. I build / CNC on average 150 projects a month for customers so if it went up $300 a month it would be well worth it. I need to be comfortable when me and my 2 helpers are out there so I have to do what I have to do. Thanks again though for the info. Eventually I am going to be putting in a mini split system when I have the time maybe after the Christmas rush slows down. I have foam insulation behind my walls and the ceiling is insulated. Just installed new insulated garage doors so it stays pretty warm in there to where sometimes I have to turn the heat off.
You mean 0.10($/kwhr)
In Australia it's 0.35($/kwhr)
How’s the floor temperature (cold) ? ✌️🇨🇦
Actually not that bad. Then again I don’t lay on it so I am not 100% sure. 😉 The heater makes my 2 car garage extremely comfortable. I will be releasing an updated video regarding a new “development” with the heater. Be on the lookout 🔦
Natural gas best
Yeah tell the world you do your own uninspected electrical....
Sounds good ... WORLD, I DO MY OWN ELECTRICAL WORK AND GUESS WHAT, I DO NOT GET A PERMIT!!!! THATS RIGHT....YOU HEARD ME. I ALSO TEAR ALL THE TAGS OFF MY MATTRESSES!!!
LOL - You know it. I’m such a daredevil that sometimes I take more than 1 mint from the basket at a restaurant. I know it may be too crazy for some people but I like to live on the edge....😂. Have a good one bud!
@Mister Fister actually jack of, it is illegal if it’s not permitted. And that work would not pass inspection. Insurance companies are getting stickier about denying claims and it’s pretty easy if your vid is on youtube
@Mister Fister wow you are dense
Is your garage insulated?
Yes it is. I added 2” foam board which has an R-13 rating which is same as batt insulation. It wasn’t the cheapest but makes heating work more efficient and in turn saves money on electric bills. I have 2 uninsulated garage doors which will be getting swapped out for insulated doors when I can spend the $$$. Thanks for watching!
@@ShorePointCreations So the ceiling (attic) and outside walls are insulated too?
Outside walls are insulated with the R-13 Foam board and ceiling is insulated with R-19 Batt insulation. Keep the outside envelope as airtight as possible is my approach. The garage doors are my weak point and where I probably lose 90% of my heat. Will remedy that soon!
Although my last garage had no insulated walls and the heater kept it very warm. It was half the size of my current shop. The heater worked good in my current one during construction when I had block walls only and extremely old insulation in the ceiling.
What I don't like about those heaters is they always mount them up high. Heat rises, I would rather mount it by the floor
I thought that as well. One thing that I didn’t realize is the blower on this heater to so powerful it send the heat down to the floor with the louvers. Once it hits the floor it dispersed and then rises. It is amazing how it fills my garage and keeps it between 60 - 70 degrees. All the and my electric bill didn’t really raise like I thought it would. Thanks for the comment. Do you have another solution that you feel works better?
Theres a heater called the Hot One that's portable that sits on the floor 5000 watts, also those 4000 watt in wall heaters might work well too take up less space.
@@ShorePointCreations This is a good solution,

Those people are not going to run 220 line to their garage torpedo heater is way2go
Can I maintain a set temperature using this heater? Say I want to set a temperature between 17-20 degrees
Thanks
The heater does have a thermostat built in for maintaining temp. I have not regretted buying this heater since the day I got it.
100 bucks a month is cheaper than propane for a month!!
This bird must be a millionaire , us mortals can't afford 220 electric heat its wicked expensive, be said a hundred that's a var concervite estimate, not the way to go.
DO NOT BUY THIS HEATER IF YOU LIVE IN A CLIMATE THAT GETS BELOW 32°. This heater Cost me $600 the first month i used it. i have never turned it on after that, and yes this is in the northern United States.
I live in the northeast and it is below 32 a lot of days between January and February. I have never had a $600 a month bill. At most my bill has gone up by maybe $100 when it has been extremely cold. Do you leave it on all the time or do you turn it on when you go in the shop? Do you have it turned up high on the thermostat? I leave me set at 70 when I go in the shop and turn it off when I leave. A $600 bill sucks - just don’t understand why yours was that high. Guess it is not a good solution for you….for me, it is the perfect solution. There is never 1 size fits all though.
The line alone today would be 200
Then just wait a little bit. According to the Biden Admin the massive inflation we are facing is transitory so prices will go back to where the used to…..I can’t even finish typing this I’m laughing too hard. Let’s Go Brandon!!!!

I do have natural gas in my house
I have a 2 car and I have to turn the heater down sometimes as it gets too hot in the garage. It may work just fine for a 3 car garage. I was originally considering a gas heater but didn’t want to have to run an exhaust which is why I went electric. I believe their is a “bigger” model which may be better in your case. Good luck!
