Great armour for the cost, great shield value block chance. It's not about killing power, it's about warding off cavalry and using in thin lines to waste the enemy's ammunition.
They have hoplite wall so it raise defence and they can stop chariots or elephants so they have their value on stoping and disrupting enemy but killing power is disgrace maybe if CA give them javelins then they would be OP units
4:25 Light Hoplites are a fast Hoplite unit which might be useful in some situation in the campaign. Idk if that is a Perioikoi Hoplite or Sparta Youths, but it seems to be Perioikoi Hoplites which is a pretty solid unit for Sparta due to needing literally 0 Investment in the campaign, they're more inline with Regular Hoplites imo.
Hastati - IMBA. For a so little price they do immense job and 3 pillas in da back can shred even the most expensive and armored units. When I used to play Roma , years ago , I often preferred a Hastati spam against Barbarians and with quantity abused pillas in the back. 1-2 volleys take a heavy price even on the most elite units. Like 30-50 men can insta perish , which is a game over for a unit. Also they are not good at fighting a fair fight , and lose 1v1 vs every barbaric equivalent on a long distance, they can HOLD the line for so long, its crazy. They can even hold Oaths or Swordmasters for quite a time. I would place pikes a bit higher. They are cheap , but they win every 1v1 , if you have enough micro to attack spam and make them move. A 400 gold pike unit can win vs 1300 gold Oaths. They are great to limit enemy attack patterns, as you don't want to go into pike unit. A combo of 700 gold swords + 400 pikes is a nightmare to deal with.
light hipolite and lybian hipolites are the unique answer to the cavalary gapping charrges that most barbarian players use to pass the greek armies ....they are not that effective in anything but fighting cavalary off your ranged units ....but they do that spesific job really well.
In the Gladiator and Gladiatrices, the Stats shown mostly that Gladiators having more melee attack while Gladiatrices have more armor, but Speed can also be a consideration as Gladiatrices is considered as Lightweight while Gladiators are Heavyweight. The Gladiatrices 10 more morale also somewhat help in making them a charging defensive unit.
I agree, in my campaign experience, I personally preferred the female counterparts who also had frenzy ability over the male ones. I also preferred spears to swords since Rome generally lacks any good specialized spear units so spear gladiatrices could complement the legionaries on the flanks, protecting them from enemy cavalry.
spear gladiators and gladiatrices have expert charge defense which makes them at least decent. Spear gladiatrices especially since they are light and have expert charge defense makes them an excellent and much needed answer to cav since they can more easily match the cav movement while not getting rolled over from a cav charge
they are the cycle charge pinners units ...very effective as mobile substitute and for local outflanking manouvers usually İ keep them second lıne and they do better in that job than the gladiators ......not that they are the best units but one of them gives a good flexibility
In the Libyan Hoplites, they're not really Militia Hoplites due to being "Medium Infantry" rather than "Hoplite/Very Heavy Infantry", this means they have faster move speed and their spear have 30 Bonus vs Cav while Militia Hoplite have more AP.
Good video man, Even though i like galatia i feel like they the most least efficient barbarian faction in the game most of their units are so expensive the sword followers and tribal have the same killing power as them but just cheaper plus the tribal warriors has so much armour so you can't really do much
Club levy is definitely the goat. I will put hastati at least at number 2 in God tier, though, Rome's OP early game is completely because of them. They can nearly match with thorax swordsman, which is mid-tier. I will also put iberian swordsman in the God-tier, at least. If you know how to micro them with their javs, they can basically perform as missile units or at least royal peltasts.
Yeah I get what you mean, you can indeed put the hastati in 2nd, but personally i would do the galatians and the iberian can be easy at top of got tier if they got shot but thats almost never the case, which makes them lower on the list
I’d argue that late libyan hoplites is S-tier. Why? It’s because of its insane staying power. For 300 costs it can hold up against legionnaires and evocatis although their damage is bad. It also has excellent anti cavalry ability which is great.

However, idk if you know this but the lusitani Iberian swordsmen have one major different from the mercenary one from Carthage and they should be separated like Thracian warrior. The difference is the lusitani one throws iron javelin doing 32 damage with 12 AP and 10 bonus vs large but with slow 4 reload rate. The mercenary one from Carthage throws light javelin doing 29 damage with only 9 AP and 5 bonus vs large but with faster 6 reload rate.
PS: another major difference is lusitani one only has 40 range and can’t manually target enemy while the mercenary one has 80 range and can manually target enemy. Both have 5 javelins tho.

I'm pretty sure lusitani's Iberian swordsmen is the only unit in the game that carries 5 iron javelins/ precursors, the rest only have 2.

Did you know that ambusher got nerfed in one of the patch? they actually used to be able to manually target enemy. oh btw, my mistake, the light javelin I was talking about actually have 9AP, not 5AP, I was thinking about the elite spears. SO yeah, light javelin still hurts a lots, lol
Dude have u seen the stats of gladiator women (3 special ability’s to activate) … in tournaments at land battles their are used and actually are op Also sabathean and Nabataean swordsman are shit (to low moral) in land battles they are not used I disagree in general with some of the units which have pila (u have to look in the game Skripts to find which kind of pila they have) some have better pila then others (for example leave freeman have the iron pila (making the most damage) … in general pilavolley are high priority in land battles (that’s why i would change some of the pila units into higher classes and some without into lower) All in all very accurate :) nice vid keep goin :))
i just watched for fun all 3 infantry units tier lists and found a unit missing: the roman principes are neither low tier nor mid tier. so i guess lacking in mid tier but God tier if you put them under Low tier? or are they so pricy compared to hastati, that you should not bother with them? and yeah, i guess this tier list is completely focused on Multiplayer. but i would like to see a video from you showcasing some army compositions for the great campaign, early mid and late game. basically a guide for beginners.
roman socii hastati better choice than throwing your coin away on a velite or jav or vigile. they have the same damages as a velite with their precursors they can hold down cav much better / flank better for the price you get basically a velite that can get into a brawl with less range it has testudo and it has 60 armor for 330 not bad tbh
I am a noob but i don't understand how the roman gladiator units were ranked so low. Their stats are much higher than a lot of the units ranked above them.

Yes Pila is very effective! Cycle charging also!(only if they are not royals and heros) and try touch their sides/ back you will see the benefits of that in the mechanics video
I always find it wierd that native egyptians for the Ptolomies are low morele but for auxiliary for rome they have strong morale yet these are the same units ?
@@FightMeTotalWar Nah, it doesn't matter what i do the game will eventually fill up all of my ram and then freeze or crash, same thing happens with attila. This doesn't happen to me on the first released version of the game, but the game is much worse there...Also the game worked perfectly fine on my old laptop and other total war games also work very well. Armor is important for protection against missiles. It really depends on how many missile units they enemy has, or the positioning of your army. Your overall morale on the battlefield goes down for your army as a greater percentage of your army is defeated, so you don’t want needless losses. Melee attack/defense/damage/charge bonus are the most important stats. Some spear/hoplite units allow you to do hammer and anvil by having a unit that can hold the line while you use a flanking unit to eviscerate your enemy, although that will happen much more often against the AI.
Well let's start from beginning: Overall it's a good tier list. BUT 1. WoW! i've never paid attention to stats of the falxmen and thracian warriors! They are almost the same! they have exactly the same damage output. i don't know how much 20 armor is going to make a difference tho 2. Putting 470 Galatians on strong tier is bad 3. Levy thureos should be in GOD tier! 4. calling Militia hops shit is nonesense 5. Egyptian Swords are Trash 6. Spartan Pikemen are Strong tier 7. Kushite slaves (140) are Trash 8. 380 naked swords are God tier 9. Iceni's 340 cost sword is trash and shouldn't be in God tier 10. Hex bearers are trash 11. Nabataean and Sabaean swords in GOD TIER?! u kidding me?! 12. Galatian spears should be in decent tier and no CA tier 13. Round shields swords are not strong

@@FightMeTotalWar well they have 45 armor, which is same for eastern spearmen, but for multiplayer dacian spears cost 220, while eastern spearmen cost 180 (seleucid, bactria versions cost 170 & can form square), dacian spears got 5 extra morale + 20 extra melee defence but in 1v1 eastern spearmen will beat them
Guerrilla just Decent 🤣 You probably don't know how to play it. Guerrilla Vs Oathsworn lose but kills between 60 and 80 of them it's just the best units of the low tiers men even with the price. PS : The most important stat in ATK is the Damage deal by weapons i can assure that by testing it with mod.

How can Eastern Spears not in CA?
I honestly would put them on CA tier but at least they are cheap and can do some damage to cavalry.
ye indeed that why they are decent, they are a nice combo with cav and a nice unit to have some meat to absorbe some pila arrow towers missle etc

dacian spears are the weakest non garrison spear unit in game, they even lose to eastern spearmen, so that fact alone i would put them to trash tier

@@FightMeTotalWar well they have 45 armor, which is same for eastern spearmen, but for multiplayer dacian spears cost 220, while eastern spearmen cost 180 (seleucid, bactria versions cost 170 & can form square), dacian spears got 5 extra morale + 20 extra melee defence but in 1v1 eastern spearmen will beat them
im pretty sure i also got the eastern spears higher on the list right?

Guerrilla just Decent 🤣 You probably don't know how to play it. Guerrilla Vs Oathsworn lose but kills between 60 and 80 of them it's just the best units of the low tiers men even with the price.
PS : The most important stat in ATK is the Damage deal by weapons i can assure that by testing it with mod.
