Selucid is underrated in my opinion. They are very strong with a big variety of units. Very good in attacking and defending. For me at least "almost there".
yeah i get it! they have tortoise they have mid tiers and elites but they lack a little o good low tiers + their mid tiers (thorax are not the strongest) but yeah got the 4 syrians. its definitely a good faction! i think on the edge of almost there and decent
@@FightMeTotalWar yes, they are missing good low tier infantry. But they have shock cavalry, melee cavalry elephants, chariots, tortoise, pikes, syrian archers, hoplites, swords.... They are ready for each situation. But I think, every player has his own ranking and maybe this makes that game so great. I liked to see your ranking, thanks for that.
Egypt is absolutely incredible. They are the only faction that can trade by sea on the east and west. The kingdoms to the south pose no threat, and the land there has gold. The variety of units for the general's body guard is just insane too. Any unit weaknesses are easily handled with mercenaries.
I think you’re really underselling Bactria, amazing selection of cavalry and missile and while slightly lacking in infantry, they’re by no means weak in that department. They’re so hard to beat in a land battle if you use them right, I think people that say they’re bad just don’t necessarily know how best to use them cuz they’re a very unique faction, they don’t play as a typical Hellenistic or eastern faction. They have strong melee and shock cav and pretty good archer cav, a wide selection of archers and javelinmen, royal guard hoplites kinda suck but thorax swords and scale hoplites hold their own
Massilia on campaign is an entirely different experience than multiplayer battles. The massilian hoplites are expensive but can pin the enemy for a long time, and gaul units in the ranks makes this faction very versatile.
I'm surprised you ranked Lusitani so low, I agree they can get gunned down easily, but like you say, once they're in combat, they can tear shit up. Very much an enemy you need to keep at arms length as often as you can
I think both of the Iberian tribes (Arevaci and Lusitani) are actually really fucking good but you need a good player to do well with them because of their big vulnerabilities. Once they get into the fight though they kick ass. They’re similar to the Odrysian Kingdom in a way but less risky imo. All have similar playstyles with Arevaci being the “safest”, Lusitani being the riskier but not riskiEST, and Odrysians having the biggest potential for absolute ass kicking but also being incredibly risky
I think he ranking them on how good they are generally but he also mentioned new players when talking about galatia so I don't think their a good faction in that context
I think you're underselling the importance of having melee-capable ranged units. It's not often, but I have turned the tide of major battles by having my ammoless archers charge into the fray. I mean, imagine if when your archers were done they turned into melee infantry? Also in my experience playing with the smallest unit sizes on my laptop sometimes just a few of the enemy cavalrymen can manage to push their way through my line past the rest of their unit and melee capable archers can make the difference between your archers stopping for just a few seconds or your archers stopping long enough for the entire enemy infantry force to arrive at the front unscathed
Macedon straight up wins against seleucids and the other successors. Best pikes(highest attack), best shock cav (slow cataphracts < fast companion cav), elephants only good against rome or sword heavy infantry factions + easly countered by flaming arrows. The only thing you can do against macedon is skirmishers since macedon pikes has the worst armor 70 I think, while silver shields have 100! But since you have the best shock cav you can just run down ranged units ez after beating the enemy cav. You finish the battle with the good old hammer and anvil.
Yeah I can understand your thoughts! but against competitive players using pikes and cav will be hard, bc its easy to counter. and against infantry based factions like boii tylis galatia rome etc you will have a hard time.
Seleucids have really good melee infantry, archers, and heavy cavalry as well. Anyone who knows how to play as them can easily counter Phalanx formation.
Online Battles usually follow the rule 124 = 1 Artillery unit, 2 Pike units, 4 Missile units Some add 7 there aswell, and it means you can only pick 7 Thorax Swordmen or Spartan Hoplite etc.
I think why Kush is so op and banned online is because people tend to just go ultra or even more than ultra in terms of funds so their one downside is totally countered out lol.
I do think Seleucid should be on Almost there tier really, the fact that they can spam syrian archer is just so good and the silver shield swordsmen is surprisingly pretty damn good too. if used right, silver shield can beat oath sworn 1v1. Another downside aside from lacking low tier melee infantry is they lack mid tier heavy melee cav, but that doesn't matter much in siege.
No man.., you blew it... Don't judge a unit because of the price, but for how it does in the battlefield!!! You flammed some pretty good factions because of that.
I disagree with many choices you made that i dont have the space to describe, but the fact that made me angry , is that Seleucid and Macedon are not god factions ... They literally have everything you need to win in the game . The only bad thing for Seleucid is their bad strategic beginning on the map , being surrounded from many strong factions who hate them , despite the fact that they have their clients...
Yeah I totally Agree, but i was thinking a little to competitive bc of the tortes but yeah i think egypte roster is way stronger yeah but tortes do be really usefull!
The list you made is serously rated at multiplayer. In single player especially factions like Crimea have options to make vassels from which they can supplement their ranks. And easily get kick ass armies. Something barbarians lack.
Pergamon is also my favorite, and Agema Spears are so nice. They look cool, their unit card is cool, their name is cool and they're usefull. I always feel like I get more value out of my Hippeus lancers on Pergamon.

Great video!, i agree with most, but man, those northen cavalry factions, such as royal scythia can just kill any troop you want. Put them on skirmish mode + strong arrows and they can beat anyone
I must strongly disagree. Specially about Seleucid, Nabatea, and Maessyli. 1. Seleucid have variety of every type of units, which are also good. You don't need to focuse on Phalanx, you can go with different type of strategy. They got really good cavalry, archers, good melee and one of the best pikemen(if not the best one). All that also makes Seleucid balanced enough to fight every single faction. 2. Nabatea got not only desert hoplites, but also good cavalry (shock, skrimisher, etc.). Not mentioning the pikemen, decent infantry roaster, and archer unit. You're not stuck to use one type of strategy(unlike Massylia, Athens, or Syracuse), and its good balanced. 3. Maessyli (Aka Numidia) beside not having archers, has one of the best variety of units I experienced so far. Having both noble infantry and legionnaire units later on with good cavalry and peltasts makes it pretty much op, even against Rome. Also, you can spam cheap slave warriors if you feel like it, both mp and campaign.
As a getae enjoyer I have to shill for them a second. I think, personally, that the falxmen shoulda gotten a mention here cause they are super important to making a good mid table army, as the trick is to mix in high quality with low quality to make up for the lack of good mid tier options. (guideline not a rule). This is how I have had the most success with them as they are basically the faction I one trick in MP. You can out charge a surprising amount of shock cav, and they are there fore great as supports for your flanks. The only issue is that it's difficult to deal with skirmishers with their roster, cause you have no Celtic spearmen equivalent.
V well made n constructed vid. Thanks. The odrision luminary should be a tier up I think tho cos CA purposely made them high risk high reward scary factions. N selucid should defo be an almost there faction.
Thanks Toasty! yeah u right, but odrysia is just really risky in competitive game and it never gets pick bc its to risky compare to the rest that why we have it that low on the tier list to make it more attractive.
@@FightMeTotalWar yeah I get where ur coming from ;) I just say that cos sometimes it is fun to take that risk n sometimes it pays off bigtime. n that should have said lusitani not luminary. U should do a DEI ( the rome 2 mod ) tier list if ur into that.
Why do you think Baktrian Royal Guard is a bad unit? That unit has Expert Charge Defense plus Frenzied Charge, so you can either charge pretty hard yourself or reflect the damage to a strong shock cavalry or infantry charge . It's my favourite hoplite unit in the game. I think the combination of horse archers/ good skirmirshing cav and heavy hoplites is pretty deadly, imo Bactria is a hell of a faction, at least for campaign. That said, I really like your tier list.
I totally disagree with you, Baktrian Royal guard is really that bad - low melee defense for elite hoplite. - Not using elite hoplite spear (this is their biggest down fall) - frenzy charge is next to useless because of high fatigue penalty.
@@TheBikeOnTheMoon I agree that the low armour penetration of their spear is a drawback in comparison to other elite hoplites, but Frenzy Charge is really useful for me. Obviously you don't want an exhausted unit to keep fighting. What I do is a cyclo charge, sending second line reinforcements when the Frenzy Charge bonus fades. That works well for me.
@@TheBikeOnTheMoonidk if you know this, but frenzied charge makes units impossible to route while active. So it’s an amazing skill to use when it’s late in the match and your unit is wavering
Persia have all selucid units i guess coz i fought against them in campaign. I think rome is OP but any pikeman nation can beat rome easy in right hands
I thibk you are underselling cimmeria. They have very strong elite hoplites which have high killing potential and they also have very decent mid tier hoplites. They also have the best archers in the entire game. Where they do lack is that they have no sword infantry and their cav is lacking but besides that they are strong
I was Sad with Arevci they are so good I beat rome in a 1v1 land battle was pretty close though and Scutari are insane for there price. I love Masealili or as I call them Desert Rome I love there cav and infantry.
Sucsessor Kingdoms are one of the strongest. They aren't as strong in melee infantry department unlike Rome or "Barbarians" but they have pikes and good cavalry.
The stepp factions are way better then you say they are I've never lost using them against people and you don't need to full Sally with them if u team with saba use the drako to cycle masagat marauders and your cav that combo will usually kill 3 full units per a marauder
yeah that could be indeed really strong its just something personal, when i see the steppe factions its always just disturbing hahah but overall could be used in different ways indeed
The main issue with the steppe factions is because they all cavalry they suffer with sieges and you're quite limited, I just think that of all the factions you can use they are definitely bottom of the barrel
It seems that the factions that specialize in using cavalry are not appreciated by you, they are difficult factions and require superior personal skills not for new players. But I quite agree with your ratings, except for Pegamon and Athens. Sorry my english is not very good!
Well he never said that he didnt like them, its just that they are one dimensional which makes them predictable, a big negative in competitive multiplayer. As a singleplayer noob :) I like those faction because they force you to change your playstyle and are refreshing BUT that doesnt change the fact that I will have a way harder time playing a cav only faction than playing a versatile faction
@@FightMeTotalWar I was once of the same mind, that cavalry factions are trash and OP infantry factions are OP. That all changed when I took one of my legions up against an army of 20 units of cavalry. Since then, I have learned, if you make an army of 20 units of GOOD cavalry, the ONLY thing that can hold you back is a walled city. These days, I only play factions with good cavalry and I usually make 40-50% of my armies entirely out of cavalry. I've done this as both Nabataea on GC and Parthia on IA and it's like putting the game on easy mode
@@mitchellgiles6869 Think you and many others have missed the point of the tier list. It's a list based on the factions strength in multiplayer, not when facing against AI or the campaign. In multiplayer, where there are often rules limiting your budget and what you can bring to the battle, cavalry factions are just not effective against real players because they're very predictable and easy to plan for.
"They got 80 armour which is bit bad" "They got 80 armour which is really stable" Which is it? Just a honest question, i understand if its good or bad depends on the unit its on. But, is 80 armour alot or not alot of armour?
Retitle this as "Rankings for new/casual players". Veteran players would see this board change up quite a bit (Baktria 100% worse than Athens? Have you used them properly? The strategy's not even that difficult!). Not a complaint as it's your opinion and your video.
yeah they can be a really strong faction! but i personally dislike them, bc when i play against them i get irritated bc its really annoying and if i play the faction my self i feel bad for the other players. but yeah its for sure a really strong faction! Hope u enjoyed it!
I'm going to be honest, Ardiaei is not a good faction. The only good units they have are the noble hoplites. That's it. It's one of the weakest factions in the entire game. I have compared them, and they stood no chance against almost all the other factions. They were almost like a warm-up.
I assume that this all rank thinking with (large) funds? I'm just clarifying for the people who don't quite understand why you're weighting mid-tiers in the ranking so heavy.
@@FightMeTotalWar ahhhhh that's why... nope it's just been me and my cpu in a box [aka whatever room I'm in] playing forever.. never done MP in Total War
If this is for siege battle my only problems have to do with my playstyle vs yours, so great no notes. But if this is for land battle omg, we have problems, too many to go into!
Yeah that could work too, I was mainly looking at attack, defense and land battle> I would say boii is better on defense and on land battle but on attack i would rate boii maybe higher so that was 2-1 for boii.
Macedon in both Total Wars, Mainly R2TW, didn't accurately depict Alexanders Army - Or even the Macedonian Elite Infantry (Not RoYaL pElTaS) such as the Hypaspists, an ELITE Guard Unit ("In terms of weaponry, they were probably equipped in the style of a traditional Greek hoplite with a thrusting spear or doru (shorter and less unwieldy than the sarissa) and a large round shield. As well as this, they would have carried a sword, either a xiphos or a kopis") or the fact that they had HORSE ARCHERS IN REAL LIFE (Alexander Hired Mercenary Horse Archers to Defeat the Indian Army at the Battle of Hydaspes - Similar to how Rome has mercenary Syrian Archers). Lastly, Companion Cav Sucks in R2TW, Did they nerf it because they were the best Cav in RTW - Companion Cav literally conquered the known world. Macedon Should've and could've been an elite faction with the addition of historical units.
Tylis,Boi,Saba, parthia ,armenia, kush are god tier for pvp. God tier players picking these factions. Rome, averni, massaesi, avaraci, nervi, slevkos, galatia gatae, epir almost tier
Nope either the internet is crap out here. My pc may have been damaged in the move. The drives could also be getting old. it's just odd cause it will be fine for a while and then bam lag stream or not

No no. Suebi needs to be on the god tier with Rome. Why? Because of the CLUB LEVY
This should be called Multiplayer Tier List
an open battle tier list would be so different
yeah true!
@@FightMeTotalWar could you make one plsss
yeah i def can in the soon future I will make more Rome 2 vids
U should do a DEI ( the rome 2 mod ) tier list if ur into that.
yeah i could maybe do that indeed in the futur!
Every time I play Octavian’s Rome I just roleplay simp for cleopatra to piss off mark antony
Hahaha simp😜
Ranking Massilia and not taking Massilian hoplites into account is crazy.
This seems to be the siege battle tier list
Yeah its more focused on siege battles indeed
bro loves his tortoises
Yes sir very important in multi
Why do you think Baktrian Royal Guard is a bad unit? That unit has Expert Charge Defense plus Frenzied Charge, so you can either charge pretty hard yourself or reflect the damage to a strong shock cavalry or infantry charge . It's my favourite hoplite unit in the game. I think the combination of horse archers/ good skirmirshing cav and heavy hoplites is pretty deadly, imo Bactria is a hell of a faction, at least for campaign.
That said, I really like your tier list.
bactria is indeed a fun faction specially for land battles, but i will have to disagree with the bactian royal guard
I totally disagree with you, Baktrian Royal guard is really that bad
- low melee defense for elite hoplite.
- Not using elite hoplite spear (this is their biggest down fall)
- frenzy charge is next to useless because of high fatigue penalty.
@@alejandrop.s.3942 If you have your gen with 2nd wind ability, I think using frenzy charge once would be fine.
@@TheBikeOnTheMoonidk if you know this, but frenzied charge makes units impossible to route while active. So it’s an amazing skill to use when it’s late in the match and your unit is wavering
Actually I’m impressed. Good video willum thank u :)
Thanks for the Kind words! Yeah I really did my best on this one!
@@FightMeTotalWar pog u
Baktria got bullied so hard 😂💀💀💀🔥🔥🔥
😂😂
Persia have all selucid units i guess coz i fought against them in campaign. I think rome is OP but any pikeman nation can beat rome easy in right hands
Great video! very informative, thank you :)
Np man glad you enjoyed it!
Seleucid should be right after Rome, and after that should be Parthia.
Next are Arverni if you know how to play
Thats really good opinion,keep it
Thanks for the vid!
NP Glad you enjoyed it!
I thibk you are underselling cimmeria. They have very strong elite hoplites which have high killing potential and they also have very decent mid tier hoplites. They also have the best archers in the entire game. Where they do lack is that they have no sword infantry and their cav is lacking but besides that they are strong
in my last carthage campaign, rome was destroyed by syracuse and etruscs
Really?! That’s like one in a million chance haga
@@FightMeTotalWar not really lol i did some campaings and in most of them Rome gets destroyed by AI.
I was Sad with Arevci they are so good I beat rome in a 1v1 land battle was pretty close though and Scutari are insane for there price. I love Masealili or as I call them Desert Rome I love there cav and infantry.
Massegatea with them archer horse is a menace.
Yeah true!
Do a tierlist for Attila too
Oeh yeah maybe in the future yes, am now a little busy with exams so there will be shorter videos up, but in 2 weeks longer videos will be uploaded :)
This ranking is clearly based on sieges in multiplayer.
Question is: why did you entirely omit open field battles?
Loved this video, helped me choosing my next faction
Glad I could help!
Sad Roxolani noises...
But, happy Getae noises.
Kush is God tier simply because THC
Great video, we al have our preferences , lusitani are pretty good in my book. just form a line and charge!
Thanks Frits! yeah thats also true! But I also think of the risks of a faction and lusitony is very risky in eyes
Egypt has a amazing unit roster
Your English was btw good!
yeah that's right i havent rated cav factions really high bc they are harder to use and thanks for giving your opinion
"They got 80 armour which is bit bad"
"They got 80 armour which is really stable"
Which is it? Just a honest question, i understand if its good or bad depends on the unit its on.
But, is 80 armour alot or not alot of armour?
80 is a lot when did i say that is wasnt?
Retitle this as "Rankings for new/casual players". Veteran players would see this board change up quite a bit (Baktria 100% worse than Athens? Have you used them properly? The strategy's not even that difficult!). Not a complaint as it's your opinion and your video.
you father go to the milk shop and the they never come back
se esta fumando un canuto de hierba?
colquis better than lusitani?? Galatia better that Egypt? cmon men
Massagetae horribly underrated. I disagree with a lot of your placements, actually. Still, a very interesting video.
yeah they can be a really strong faction! but i personally dislike them, bc when i play against them i get irritated bc its really annoying and if i play the faction my self i feel bad for the other players.
but yeah its for sure a really strong faction!
Hope u enjoyed it!
Nice vid just watched it now… its a litle long for my atention span
thx haha
I'm going to be honest, Ardiaei is not a good faction. The only good units they have are the noble hoplites. That's it. It's one of the weakest factions in the entire game. I have compared them, and they stood no chance against almost all the other factions. They were almost like a warm-up.
Thats what funny about kush there power is there weakness but i think its stronger than carthage.
Haha yeah true!
you said you use royal spartans and archers for sparta? never discovered how good pikemen are?
should this not be named as faction tier for seiges? cuz some of the faction ranking are off for pitches
Ye thats true
You did broke my heart with Parthia
SRY
@@FightMeTotalWar let's take it to battleground meet me at plain field im on horse back and you on foot sounds good?😂
Nice vid!
Thanks Peter!
I assume that this all rank thinking with (large) funds? I'm just clarifying for the people who don't quite understand why you're weighting mid-tiers in the ranking so heavy.
Yes Indeed! so not ultra Funds but Large funds! Thanks for the clarification!👍
I have ~2200 hrs on this game and I have never seen tortoises before 😭 [playing Carthage w/ DEI mod now]
Oh haha thats interesting! Did you play a couple multiplayer matches? bc then you will probably see them
@@FightMeTotalWar ahhhhh that's why... nope it's just been me and my cpu in a box [aka whatever room I'm in] playing forever.. never done MP in Total War
Hahah you should try them they are really fun!
@@FightMeTotalWar it's just the battles tho aren't they ?? I really get immersed in the full package
[Just started a Galatian campaign ha]
yeah its battles only! but alright galatia campaign sounds good! are they diff im DEI?
Can you play all fraction straight away
U got to buy dlc
ah yes, the 1 2 4 siege tier list that has no place in land battles or competitive mp
Haha yeah its more focused on siege battles, but its also for competitive mp siege battles
I waited until he got to sparta
egypt is a god faction atleast in single player i love them they have counter to almost everything you put against them
If this is for siege battle my only problems have to do with my playstyle vs yours, so great no notes. But if this is for land battle omg, we have problems, too many to go into!
its for sieges ye
Egypt on multiplayer and camping is just perfect faction, so underated...
Hmmm indeed not bad but not amazing
Start of the video Rome is god tier. Well considering the name of the game it makes sense😂
For this professional player, Part is the best shot🤫
part?
@@FightMeTotalWar Yes that's right
what is Part
How could Sparta be lower than even Athens(the worst in the game)?!
Sparta is just not a great faction unfortunately
Thureos Spears
bias
i would say factions with light horse and elite shock cav are all god tier
Hahaha YEAH you right jjj 😉
You could tell it was jj when he said light horse
yeah indeed hahah
Fucking light horse. Who else could it be but Joseph tang himself
Iam surprised arverni ain’t god tier but I guess it’s just opinion I would rank arverni 3rd best faction in my opininion
oh interesting! Yeah its definitely a good faction, but im not sure i think galatia stonger and boii is just a personal opinion same with desert rome
@@FightMeTotalWar yh my top four Rome Galatia arverni boii. Personally I just prefer the archers
Yeah that could work too, I was mainly looking at attack, defense and land battle>
I would say boii is better on defense and on land battle but on attack i would rate boii maybe higher so that was 2-1 for boii.
Haha no way, low a tier.
What is this tier list based on? Is it based on campaign or multiplayer?
Mostly multiplayer
No way man my favorite is parthia i guess i got really good at using arrow horsemen from the huns in attila.
3 min in still agreeing also another quality video
Thanks Gorm! btw did you fixed the streaming problem?
Nope either the internet is crap out here. My pc may have been damaged in the move. The drives could also be getting old. it's just odd cause it will be fine for a while and then bam lag stream or not
yeah thats unfortunate!
Colchis S tier if you want a challenge.
Macedon with the early game Thessalian cavalry is broken, macedon is more versatile than Epirus, the only thing Epirus has are mercenaries
yeah true!
I feel like the Greeks units where made too weak.
technically they were weak during this period, maniple like systems at this time are just superior historically.
ye greeks are not the strongest
Baktria is way stronger than athens
Why you think so? Bc Athens got tortoises which is very useful to get through the walls. They got thorax and thorax hoplites better archers and slingers.
Not the Scythians factions getting bottom tier😔
