  • My first Alice Keyboard, the CIDOO ABM066! Very nice and simple keyboard that is VIA compatible and great functions! Typing on it will get some getting used to, but overall a great keyboard!

How is the latency? I plan to turn this into a budget hitbox

I get that these clips make them cheaper by 1¢, but it really starts to feel like it lacks the heart of a mechanical keyboard. Yeah sure same shape, mechanical switches, etc., but doesn't feel Right

There's little ergonomic payoff with an Alice, as you mentioned at the end. It does technically count by way of having a "split", but a regular staggered split would be much better, plus room in the middle to put things
Alice is mostly about aesthetics, which is a fine reason to get one, but it's annoying when people act like they help with ulnar deviation, when anyone can plainly look down while using a regular keyboard and see isn't nearly the problem those unrealistic diagrams show to sell Alice

Really appreciate your feedback on it! Really a thought provoking point! I agree, the aesthetics really is appealing! Not much to say about the ergonomic benefits

Everyone's anatomy is different in this regard. For some, Alice layout is all they need to get relief for their symptoms that heavy typing daily can introduce. I'd start with an alice before going for those 350-500 dollar split ergo boards.

@@thisusedtobemyrealname7876 you're right in that sometimes the smallest adjustment can have big payoffs, but even in that situation, you can get a Keebio Sinc prebuilt with switches and stabs installed for 180 USD before keycaps (and I've seen plate + PCB kits as low as 35 USD ) , this provides the same adjustment angle as Alice, as well as having room to grow and try other split positions or even 1-handed usage such as for gaming or spreadsheets
These 350+ ergos you're talking about I assume are columnar stagger etc., and I know those can get expensive due to the small production amounts and small projects… but that's why I mentioned traditional horizontal stagger specifically, because the splitting itself is what alleviates most issues keyboards cause for most people. As you already know, mentioning the Alice being enough for many people
There isn't an issue with Alice, and as the "easiest" way to enter the ergo space, they have a valuable role. It's just very limited in its space to grow, and the actual key layout has no data behind its claims, as opposed to the splitting, which has plenty of scientifically applicable supporting evidence largely related to a more ideal neutral shoulder and chest positioning
My problem isn't their existence, it's making nonfalsifiable claims about what their actual ergonomic benefit is for marketing purposes when "it looks cool" is already a good enough reason for many, many keyboard buyers
I agree with your last point. I too would go Alice first before anything over 300USD, but that doesn't mean a split horizontal stagger wouldn't still be better from an ergo standpoint
