- Butaritari in Kiribati is one of our Favorite Places in The World!
Abaiang was great and it was so funny to meet all the kids, even though some of them probably thought we were scary ghosts.
We loved it, but there was something about the atoll Butaritari that we can’t describe.
It was stunningly beautiful, the snorkeling was amazing and it just felt so right.
It was a paradise and definitely a place we will remember forever.

Wow you are so lucky to do what you do CONGRATS great videos.
Hello Hilma I’m from Kiribati and I live in NZ and I'm still learning English.
I'm 18 year old and I moved to NZ when I was 15 year old.
I enjoy watching your video and pretty cool to show one of kiribati biggest problem
Plastic pollution.
I pretty much miss my country and can't wait to finish school and my carpentry
Course so I can go back home lol. I wish one day I become a tourist guide.
Thank you…….. stay safe from Covid-19.
Y’all r so lucky to sail this is so beautiful videos ⛵️⚓️
Good looking people sailing across the world. Gotta like that. Nice sailboat too!
Welcome to kiribati.
the ppl on a truck waving their hands say "mauri" which means hello
It’s amazing how many small out of the way Beautiful places exist in this world! Thanks for sharing and safe passage.
Like your videos, loving people from Kiribati
Thank you for this beautiful video.
Thank you for watching it! ☺️
The views of the clouds on the horizon & sailboat anchored off the reef at sunset were AMAZING! Thank You!
Thank you!! 😊
At 14:07, when the horizon touches the sky, those are my most beautiful memories of the Pacific. It makes you realize how vast the ocean is. All your videos are nice, but that section was amazing! Thank you for sharing.
Nice Kiribati I sailed to this a beautiful islands , many thanks great video
Further, really enjoyed your overhead drone footage of the atolls. It really helps the viewer get a better understanding & visceral feel of what you are experiencing in that most beautiful place. Also enjoyed your background music of the people singing, quite touching
Love your videos, they are from your hearts...
We are so glad you like them. Thank you very much for watching! ☺️
So Beautiful! Getting exciting!
Thank you Mike! We understand that. You have a lot to look forward to! 😊

Yes, that was one of our best experiences ever. Such an amazing nature and lovely people! Thank you! ☺️
Dazzling... thank you
Thank you!! ☺️
Beautiful! Nice video.
Thank you! ☺️
Nice video! Just subscribed! Absolutely gorgeous! Love the aerial shots from the drone as well
Thank you very much! ☺️
Excellent !!! Magnifique !!!! Very good !!!!
Thank you very much!! 😃
Jag e så glad att jag hitta denna kanal :) kram från Sverige ❤
vad roligt att du tycker det. 🤗
Very nice, and my kind of place, remote, unspoiled, and naturally beautiful. Many don't like when they don't have stores and bars(pubs) and such, but would rather have friendly people, and small villages than that. Know problems started after this, which is unfortunate(and hopefully over now ;) but those were some gorgeous places to come from.
Such a lovely episode, SHARING!
instablaster...
Really nice to see you,and what a lovely couple of places you visited right here.Terrific that there is no trash everywhere here. The people are beautiful, and in so many ways are really better off than us as they don’t have all the things complicating their lives, they just live simply.Best wishes🙂
Thank you for watching and yes, it seems like a nice way of living. We think everyone seemed so happy there. Best wishes to you! 😊
Nice communicating experience with native villagers, water walking :)Great video!
Yes, sometimes it works a little even if you don't speak the same language. :) Thank you!
Epic video I didn’t wanted to end!
Thank you very much. We usually make kind of long episodes and are worried that they are too long so that was nice to hear! 😃
Awesome video! Have an amazing week, Andreas 🇸🇪
Tack så mycket!! 😊🇸🇪

Love your videos. So relaxing after a day in the office. Greetings from LA.
We are so glad that you like them! Thank you very much! ☺️
Beautiful people of the sea, love and respect from the UK.
They were amazing! ☺️
Very beautiful 😍👍
Good to see you guys back on track with your lifetime adventure! I am just trying to catch up with your updates after the terrible rudder loss incident. Fair winds & following seas!
Yes, we are so happy that we managed to continue and finally we have started to release episodes that are recorded after the rudder loss. There is so much that we want to share and we trying to make new videos as often as we can, but it takes more time than we thought it would do. Anyhow, we hope it's ok even though we are a little slow! 😉☺️
Oskar, Lisa - well done. This is a wonderful episode. And, no sharks! Bonus. 🙂
Thank you very much! Haha, that was a bonus! 😃
Stunning beautiful place!
It sure was!! ☺️
The most exquisite sunset... !
yes, it was beautiful! 😊
(@14:36) Yes! Wow indeed! Such a spectacularly beautiful scene!
Yes, it was such a beautiful place. ☺️
Hi guys! Loving your episodes immensely! The kids were beautiful and the interactions were so very cute (Albeit a little awkward with the pregnant pauses in conversation!) :-) it just goes to show, kids with smiles are the most fearless social humans on Earth! :-)
Hi! Thank you so much, we are very happy to read that you like them! Yes, sometimes it's a bit awkward but it is easier with kids. They are just happy and smile... most often anyhow. 😄
Another great video ;-) Fair winds ,,,/),,,,
Thank you very much!! ☺️
Amazing
Great to watch. Once everybody got over the jitters it seems to have been a great encounter.
Thank you! Yes, maybe they were as unsure as we were in the beginning. 😀 That was definitely encounters we will remember forever.
Excellent vid ya'll.
thank you!
HOLA LISA , HOLA OSKAR , ESPERO ESTÉN BIEN HERMOSA ISLA , ME GUSTARÍA ESTAR AHÍ . BUEN VIDEO , SALUDOS LES MANDO UN ABRAZO SU AMIGO MANUEL .
Hola Manuel! Sí, es una isla muy hermosa! Mucho gracias! Esperamos que todo esté bien contigo. Abrazo Oskar y Lisa
Such a lovely place... thank you for sharing
Yes, it sure was. Thank you so much for watching! Yes, that was a bit tricky but we think it was nice encounters anyway. Exactly, smiles make it easier! 😊
@@HilmaSailing Thank you!
Beautiful 💞🇨🇦
Thank you! ☺️
Very interesting, thank you
We are glad that you think so. Thank you! ☺️
Grymt!
(@21:00) Yes! Smiling is extremely contagious and once you start it’s hard to stop! :-)
That's so true! 😊
Memories...it was nice to see Abiang...we spent many weeks there back in 2010. Feeling like an old timer or something. Try to get invited to a wedding if you can. It was funny to see you scare the little girl because you looked like a ghost to her...I guess not much has changed ;) it was lovely to hear Kiribati music...their music is magic. It used to be the theme songs to our videos but we changed it.
If you have a chance celebrate Easter with them...amazing!!! And you are right...Kiribati is what Sailing around the world really IS all about. It’s one of our most fond memories. We may need to make another lap and do it again!!
I guess you are heading to Majuro for hurricane season? We had problems too there...lost the mast outside of one of the southern islands of Kiribati. -Rebecca On SV Brick House
Nice that you spent time there too! It sounds like you spent a lot of time there. We loved it too and that is still one of our favorite places.
We did not stay very long and right now we are in Mauritius. This episode was recorded last November so one year ago. We are "a little" late with the episodes ;)
That sounds bad but we understand that you managed to continue too and we are happy that you could! Sail safe!
beautiful video!
Thank you!
That child was crying because she knew viking was here!! Just kidding. Love you!
Haha, maybe. Poor little girl. Thank you!
This is a beautiful video - I love all the detail and can't believe how in the middle of no where this atoll is. I'm sure most people wouldn't bother to stop so it's a real treat to see a place like this. I like all the close up shots where you can just appreciate what it's like. Thank you! I'm wondering why some of these people have learned to speak English? Is there a link to the video where you lost your rudder?
Thank you very much. Yes, we understood that there were not many sailors who stopped there :)The guy we talked to moved to the main atoll Tarawa to study and work and we think he learned a lot of English there. We also went to the school with him and it seemed like they were teaching English there too :) Yes, the link is ua-cam.com/video/Gz3cLRiEmzo/v-deo.html
Take care!
beautiful video.
Thank you! ☺️
Jag är så avundsjuk! Min barndomsdröm.. Ni har verkligen hittat paradiset
Since years there is the flag of Kiribati flying in my garden in Hamburg Germany. Once I will be there. You guys already made it - I'm realy jealous!
Of course you will go there too then and we know you will have a lovely time too! 😊
Hi from Baja Mexico 🇲🇽
Hej Lisa o Oskar. Tack för att ni delar med er och låter oss inspireras av er fantastiska äventyr. Vi undrar vad ni använder för drönare? Följer er vidare. Var rädda om er ✨
such a beautiful place ,,,,,,,,,,,,, was reading recently that a local ( unlicenced ) ferry had sank in a storm in that area and ( i think ) 95 people were lost.
Yes it sure was!
Oh no. That's so sad! :( We have to read about it.
If that’s correct? Very sad!
Hey just saying hello from fellow sailers and video makers, your footage is really amazing! What do you shoot on mostly? Well thanks, hopefully we see you out there eventually! Cheers
Thank you! We actually use a GoPro and our phones. 😃 It's often a lot of work to do in the editing but we think it's good enough for us. For the drone footages we use DJI Mavic Pro and we think that one is really great. We hope to see you out on the ocean! Cheers
We live on Guam and love to snorkel. I am curious, with your mustache, which mask do you use?
And in other news, I'm in the middle of building a retaining wall and only have 120 60 pound blocks to go! Beautiful video! Now, time to get back to work! Not complaining ;-)
Haha, we will go back and work too.. We know the feeling. 😀
Nice videos guys!It reminds me of when I grew up in an isolated Island in Tonga. When we see white people, usually from yachts,we as kids were so scared!
We even had the locals trying to avoids contact due o lack of english. There were shy to try,as these were in the early 70s but to my surprise now, I went back and almost 80 percent could speak English.
Such a beautiful place but I guess it is far remote for tourism!
Thank you once again for sharing 👌👌
Thank you very much! That must have been a great childhood! Haha, you were? What did you think about us/them? 😃
We think a lot of sailors visit Tonga and next time we cross the Pacific we must go there. It seems very nice! :)
Yes, this place was very remote and we really love that.
Thank you again!☺️
Hilma Sailing Hi! You guys have done a fantastic job.As I said before,we were just crying because we never seen white people before.Even our adults scare us off with telling us that the “palangi”(white person) will eat us!Lol! But I think they just didn’t want us to hassle the foreigners.Anyway you guys done well,I think it’s more of the fear that they can’t speak in your language!
All the best and enjoy!
Very nice videos, i subscribe and start from #1
Thank you very much! ☺️
Cool
☺️

Thank you! We did not sail to Bali :( We went through the Malacca straight and then around northern Sumatra. When we reached Nias we sailed west towards Mauritius, where we are now.
Mycket fina bilder och filmning är kanon. Drönarbilderna är kalasfina. Redigeringen är också snyggt gjord. Bra jobbat !
Tusen tack! Vad roligt att du tycker det! 😊
nice video
Thank you! ☺️
Most excellent video 👍👍 And to think that you are now somewhere in the middle of the Indian Ocean
Thank you very much! That's correct, we are in Mauritius and are leaving for Reunion soon 😊
😀😀😀😲😲👍
😃
I miss you
Wow! She looks good in that bikini! I find this video very interesting because it shows a very real interface moment between the natives of the island, and visitors. It shows how the language barrier makes it difficult for two groups to become friends, because there is so little communication that friendships can't be formed very fast. Even though both sides want to be friends, they can't understand each other.
kinda seemed the natives were afraid of the visitors, I wonder why? wonder if it has something to do with USAID
😃 We are happy that you found it interesting and as you wrote, sometimes people don't need to use words to be able to interact and have a nice time together. We loved it! ☺️
We did not feel that way, except for some of the youngest kids. ☺️
how is your rudder now did you strenghten or replace ?
Did you see our last episode? That was the first one about the rudder. :) We replaced it in Majuro but did some more work and reinforced the rudder tube when we came to Malaysia. We hauled out in Malaysia in July so now it feels good. :)
@@HilmaSailing yes I saw thanks , love your channel
These fish aggregation devices, are they usually moored, close to a settlement on a coral reef? I’m guessing local fishermen or well meaning agencies install them to make catching or spearing a daily catch easier. Surely they can’t be of much use to larger scale, commercial fishing operations? But either way, what a terrifying concern for cruising sailors! 😳😡 Would a GRP boat stand a chance against one of these monsters? I’m not sure an aluminium boat would fare much better. What a worry.
We have seen them in the middle of the ocean in some places. Most of them when we came closer to Asia but it was still in 5000 meters of depth 😱 They are so scary and we think they'll make a disaster if we hit one. We also think they are used by huge fishing vessel. When we googled it it seemed that way. Terrible.. 😔 The worst part is that it is impossible to see them during night time since they have no lights, transmitters or anything on them.. Yes, a big worry! 😳
"do you liv here?" nah mate i just come to the island for the babes
Asking do you live here ..is this your house ,from their point of view is like asking if they exist..lol ....Dispela mun na meri em i gat liklik savi bilong olgeta. ✌🏾🤣
It's tricky to communicate sometimes. 😊
can someone translate in english sung by the local there
When is the last time you saw children allowed to just run around and be free?
Yes, we think they have an amazing childhood! ☺️
Aside from the clothing, this is what life used to be
☺️
Why don’t you guys Sail to Saudi Arabia , we just opened the Visa and tourism for every one.
We have decided to go to South Africa and then continue to Brazil. There is always a lot of routes to choose from and that's hard. 😊
Hilma Sailing when your in South Africa remember to yiu can always sail your way up to the red see , cross the Egyptian longest man made Canal in the world, sail down the Medetrenisn all the the way to South America. Just saying
your house, your house, you live here? your house
😃
Wouldn't be a good idea to learn a few simple words and sentences of the local language every time you arrive at a new place? I promise you, your experience of the country/island would be 10 times better. It doesn't take a big effort to learn a few practical words and sentences. You can actually, to make it easier for you, make notes on just a paper or your mobile phone and have it with you. I was in Thailand many years ago and I really made an effort to learn a few words and sentences. That made a huge different in the way the locals approached me compares to my friends that couldn't say a single word in Thai.
Yes, that's probably a good idea. Next time we visit Pacific and Asia we will do that! ☺️
Amazing
