HOW TO SAIL AROUND THE WORLD

  • Although it may seem crazy to sail around the world, once you analyze the various wind patterns and hurricane seasons and with a bit of planning it’s quite reasonable for anyone with a sense of adventure to do the same. There’s lots of ways to sail around the world. If you’re racing, you often use storms in the southern ocean to propel you along. It’s a completely different approach. One that requires serious boats that are built for those conditions. We on the other hand sail around the world by staying more or less in the trade wind belts. This stacks the odds in our favour. We often have the wind and waves behind, pushing us along and stay warm in the non-stop tropical conditions.

First time I ever heard about Swiftlets buildings in Indonesia. That’s pure genius farming the birds nest in a relatively safe controlled environment. Here in the Philippines people would dangerously wall climb inside dark caves to harvest them.

Have you had bird's nest soup? It's not that big a deal, of course if your host has just spent a lot of money.... And shark's fin soup? Besides being an ecological atrocity, having had both real and fake, there's no difference between fake shark's fin and real shark's fin. I think the Chinese really know their food, more so than the French. And I love Japan and Japanese food, but 'best food in the world?' Not even close.
Cool, video. I look forward to seeing more of your videos even if they don't have references to bird spit in them.

Awesome, tks for posting. Let me tell you out of all the sailing around the world you tube channels, like 7 or 8 that I have watched, YOu are the only boat to catch nice size Yellow Fin tuna. Very cool. You know that it can be canned easily and tastes great fresh caught canned. All you need is a pressure cooker, and the mason jars, when done after 90 mins it will keep your entire trip of course no refridge needed. Just a thought so you will always have good food. Mixed with Hidden valley ranch dressing it is the bomb. Good luck, cheering you on from 90274. Oh have you caught any more YFT or Wahoo?

Grrrr88888 video ! I applaud your simplifying the varying methods and approaches to circumnavigating the globe , well done ! I was however disappointed with respect to Ashley's poor judgement and disregard to the Colregs and collision avoidance !!! In spite of sailing vessels having "Right of way " over power driven vessels in MOST situations it is never a good idea to attempt to cross ahead of a RED / PORT navigational light especially in front of a LARGE displacement vessel if there is ANY doubt or question as to whether or not this crossing will be accomplished with a wide margin of safety !!!
For myself any CPA (closest point of approach ) of less than 2 miles is dangerously close especially at night ! Something to consider is that a vessel traveling underway @ 12 knots will travel 1.2 nautical miles in just 6 minutes or 6 miles in just 30 minutes ! Large displacement vessels do noTTT maneuver or slow down on a dime and often times smaller vessels don't show up on their radars !!! Bridge watch personnel have been known to not necessarily be paying the closest of attention !!! If a LARGE displacement ship runs over a 40 foot plastic sail boat in the middle of the night it is probably not even going to notice the "bump" !!! My question is it worth the risk ???

Greetings from New Zealand. It's a shame I wasn't in my home town when you guys came to NZ so I didn't get a chance to meet you beautiful people. Yet another amazing video from you.
Ps. You make it seem so easy to do what you do, my work partners have sailed around the world on a mono multiple times. I frequently ask my mates how they did it but they weren't the most helpful but all I can gather from their laps around is its costly and its heartbreaking for me cause I may never get a chance to go on this amazing journey as its so so expensive, especially from such a little country like NZ. Non the less I'm gonna stop complaining have a great rest of your lap it seems so much fun.

I find it funny how the world spins at over 1000mph and yet the gravity is strong enough to stop the water shooting off at the equator like a wet tennis ball that is spun really fast and yet birds/insects can still get off the ground with that intense gravity that keeps the water on the super fast spinning ball...
Or perhaps water is just flat like it appears to be and we aren’t really on a spinning ball planet. Just as it’s reason for using it as a levelling device/tool for hundreds of years.
Interesting topic that’s for sure. 😉

And maybe explain more about where & when can you run into those hurricanes & stuff like that. I’m looking to buy a sailboat next year & live a board, but it would be nice if I could be in a warm/summer parts entire year. Also is it possible to fish tuna & other fish in international waters & sell it in harbors of different countries if I have a small fishing company opened in Panama for sailing under the flag of convenience?? I hope I gave you a good idea for a video it would be helpful. Also I’m thinking about buying a ketch made of steel with full keel. In my opinion that’s the best for blue waters(safest).
