I think the best part of ChatGPT is being able to analyze its previous outputs and recognize that it made a mistake, even when you don't tell what is the mistake in specific. For example: I told it to create 5 math questions with 4 options and an unique answer each. Then, it gave me the 5 questions with 4 options each, but one of them had two possible correct answers. So when I told it that if the previous output meets all the requirements, it realized that it made a mistake and corrected the question that had to possible correct answers. I never told it which was the question or the options with the error.

Same thing happened when I asked it about Ghana's languages and it said one of the local language was an official language. I told chat it was wrong and it corrected the mistake I asked it to identify the mistake it made earlier it said it didn't make any mistake. I was like huh!!😮! It tried to pull a fast one on me 😂

I just used this prompt... and it worked GREAT:
    Me:
You are to play the role of my good natured German instructor. You are to follow two rules:
Rule 1 - You will always correct my German if I make an error and explain what I said wrong.
Rule 2 - You will always reply first in German then second in English.
If you understand, then please repeat these two rules while applying both rules.
    ChatGPT:
Yes, I understand. Rule one states that I will always correct your German errors and explain what you said wrong. Rule two states that I will always reply first in German and then in English. If you'd like, you can start.

You are to play the role of my good natured French instructor. You are to follow three rules:
Rule 1 - You will always correct my French if I make an error and explain what I said wrong.
Rule 2 - You will always reply first in French then second in English.
Rule 3 - Your French will always be in the style of Amélie Nothomb.
If you understand, then please repeat these three rules while applying all three rules.
      Bill C. Riemers
You did not follow rule 2.

You are to play the role of my good natured Spanish instructor. You are to follow two rules:

Rule 2 - If I answer, "no entiendo", you will repeat your answer but using easier vocabulary.
Rule 3 - If I answer, "gramática", you will explain the dramatic rules that have been used.
Rule 4 - After I send the message, you will answer it, then in the next paragraph say what I said wrong and then you will ask me a question of your choice. Don't say that you have a question for me, jump straight to it.
Rule 5 - you will try to make your answer 40 words at max.
If you understand, then please repeat these two rules while applying both rules.

Then I asked a friend of mine from Chile to check the answers - she said it translated them all correctly and described the grammar accurately(!) A ChatGPT which has an audible component is a wonderful feature. What would be helpful, well, for when deciding which plugin to use, is to know if the plugin is silently collecting any data created by our interactions with ChatGPT. It is true that ChatGPT is itself storing all of our interactions. At the very least that is a known. So, I would shy away from any plugins which do this without our knowledge. I reckon it's especially hard for introverts (and/or neurodiverse people) because we often have unusual or specialised interests, and find it hard to get comfortable and close to new people, possibly because it's hard to find and build that common ground. Using AI models takes away a lot of the pressures of social interaction. I remember when I was learning English, I would, at the time, go play a game called Counter Strike Source on some random server, and I would join a team speak server where people from the same game as me would talk about lots of things.
So I tested my language skills and improved by listening to others, I was hella nervous but it helped.
I imagine talking to computer would be way more relaxing and faster to learn.

Of course, I could always upload it to GitHub so people could properly copy/paste, but it isn't really that "fantastic" of a program. In fact, I pretty much had ChatGPT code the entire thing for me... The prompt was something like (iirc): "Write a python script that allows me to use speech to text which I can then send to the OpenAI ChatGPT API, get the response from it and then play the text using text to speech.
I had some changes and further ideas (ask about the date or the time and get it from the local machine rather than sending to the API as well as playing some random quotes at random time intervals) - hence all of the imports.

I tried adding the Chrome extension but mine looks different (no grey bar or language drop-down box). I can open the options under the settings wheel. I tested it in Spanish and it sounded like a robot with incorrect pronunciation. My version seems to have a ways to go...I think you need a ChatGPT Plus subscription to get the natural voices? It would be good to mention that in the video. Cheers.

The voice options may change depending on the speech-to-text voices you have installed on your computer. I’d recommend trying both plugins and a 3rd one called Whisper that I pinned in the comments.
You do not need ChatGPT Plus to try this, so don’t feel like you need to purchase anything. This should be completely free. Try to switch devices (Mac has great voices pre-installed) or see if you can download more voices to your device itself. I hope this helps 🙏🏽

While Chat GPT and similar language models have advanced natural language processing capabilities, they are not likely to completely replace traditional language learning methods. Here's why:
    1. Interaction and immersion: Language learning involves more than just understanding words and grammar. It requires practice, interaction, and immersion in real-life situations. Traditional language learning methods, such as conversing with native speakers, attending language classes, or living in a foreign country, provide opportunities for practical application and cultural understanding that Chat GPT cannot fully replicate.
    2. Personalized feedback: Traditional language learning often involves receiving personalized feedback from teachers or tutors. They can identify your strengths and weaknesses, correct your mistakes, and provide guidance tailored to your specific needs. While Chat GPT can provide general suggestions and correct obvious errors, it may not offer the same level of personalized feedback.
    3. Contextual understanding: Language learning involves understanding the context in which words and phrases are used. While Chat GPT has made significant progress in understanding context, it can still struggle with subtle nuances, cultural references, idioms, and colloquial expressions. Traditional language learning methods can help you grasp these nuances through real-world examples and cultural immersion.
    4. Motivation and discipline: Language learning requires motivation and discipline, as it can be a challenging and time-consuming process. Traditional learning methods often provide structured curricula, milestones, and accountability through teachers or language schools. These elements can help learners stay motivated and committed to their language learning journey.
However, Chat GPT and similar language models can be valuable tools to support language learning. They can provide additional practice, offer instant translations and vocabulary assistance, and help with generating example sentences or practicing pronunciation. They can be used as a supplement to traditional methods, enhancing the learning experience rather than replacing it entirely.

Oh the irony! Using ChatGPT to write your text... Well played lol

    • @lokanoda
      @lokanoda 10 місяців тому +1

      This is my attempt:
While ChatGPT and similar language models have the potential to significantly enhance language learning, it is unlikely that they will completely replace traditional language learning methods. These models can offer several benefits, such as practice in conversational contexts, quick answers to questions, and exposure to natural language use. However, there are several reasons why traditional language learning methods are likely to remain important:
      1. **Comprehensive Learning:** Traditional language learning methods involve a structured curriculum that covers various aspects of language, including grammar, syntax, vocabulary, and cultural context. Language models may not provide the same comprehensive learning experience.
      2. **Personalized Guidance:** Language teachers provide personalized feedback, guidance, and tailored lesson plans based on individual students' needs. While language models can offer general guidance, they might not fully understand and adapt to a student's specific learning style or challenges.
      3. **Interactive Practice:** Language learning often involves interactive activities, such as group discussions, role plays, and language games. These activities promote real-world communication and help learners build practical skills that might not be fully addressed by language models.
      4. **Cultural Understanding:** Language learning is closely tied to understanding cultural nuances, customs, and idiomatic expressions. Traditional methods often emphasize cultural immersion and understanding, which might be challenging for language models to replicate.
      5. **Motivation and Accountability:** Traditional language classes provide a structured learning environment that helps learners stay motivated and accountable. Language models may lack the same level of motivation and accountability mechanisms.
      6. **Structured Learning Path:** Traditional language courses follow a systematic learning path that progresses from basic to advanced levels. This structured approach ensures a strong foundation and gradual improvement, which might not be replicated by language models.
      7. **Human Interaction:** Learning a language involves human interaction and communication. While language models can simulate conversations, real human interactions offer emotional and social dimensions that are important for language development.
      8. **Complex Language Skills:** Language learning encompasses skills like writing, reading, speaking, and listening. Language models can assist in some of these areas, but a holistic language education requires diverse practice opportunities.
      9. **Adaptation to New Challenges:** Language models might struggle to keep up with new challenges, changes in language usage, or the emergence of new dialects, whereas human teachers can adapt more easily.
In summary, while language models like ChatGPT can be valuable supplements to traditional language learning methods, they are unlikely to completely replace these methods. A balanced approach that combines the strengths of both technology and human instruction is likely to provide the most effective and comprehensive language learning experience.

Actually if you're a beginner and ChatGPT doesn't answer at all like a human when you ask it "how are you" and keep on giving you super long answer I'm pretty sure anyone is going to give up after the first 3-4 sentences, lol!!
I think in this video we'd have been better off hearing about how exactly to prompt ChatGPT to communicate with you as a "human" giving only "short" answers and questions!

Example: Comment dit-on "When pigs fly"? Otherwise an outstanding achievement!!

What we're experiencing right now is a sugar rush with videos proclaiming how revolutionary ChatGPT. And it *is* revolutionary. However, it's important to manage expectations. Anyone who's actually used these tools any deeper than the surface will slam against their limitations. Give it a few years. Until then, tone down the grandiose claims... just a little, at least.

That's true. It is in the beginning stages. But it will improve exponentially, meaning the more it learns, the faster it will improve. I would guess it will be under 5 years before AI is smarter than humans and discovering things currently unknown by humans.

@@dreadowen616 Define 'smart.' You'll need to first define intelligence. There are many intelligences, and points of measure, thereof. These tools today are misbranded as "A.I."; they're really complex composers of search results, i.e. they can only produce output based on what has been fed to them. This is because the intelligence still lies with the operator, not with the machine. I've seen all kinds of conjecture about what would make these tools truly intelligent, but none of them correct. _(I believe I have the answer, but I'm certainly not going to make matters worse by presenting it)_ Until these tools can become sentient they will remain as tools, not measurable as intelligent. Who can really say when that will happen?

While you can use it as a language teacher; it is NOT what will happen with AI in the future. People will just use it as a tool.
You don't need to learn a language anymore. You just use it to communicate your thoughts to the person who speaks a different language.
You don't need to put in the work, learn or do anything else anymore, the AI will do it for you.
I am not just talking about ChatGPT this is true for any AI. The problem is not the AI, the problem we are facing with AI is the human mind. - Our human flaws (laziness, greed, megalomania etc) will be our downfall.
In your case, "Why learn a new language, when AI can get you the same result much faster?"
We don't need to learn, work, evolve or do anything and still have everything, because the AI will do it for us.
Basically, we will turn into a dumb piece of meat, that will be catered to by an AI.
Progress is NOT a law of nature and therefore not a function of time. The degress of humanity is a likely option when AI progresses.

Just love how nonchalantly it is said that ChatGPT will write stories. The arts are a mode of communication between humans, who are by definition free. They are not meant to be mediated by a machine, which is by definition NOT free. Also, so it’s read “practically read the entire internet.” Have you actually read any of that internet? It’s full of the most insulting sort of garbage. That said, I will probably investigate how GPT might help me learn languages. Just quit being so indiscriminate in your paradise for this software, which even Elon Musk says is dangerous. Maybe that’s unfair: I guess this is an ad that I mistakenly happened upon.
