It only great for learning English right now the accents for other languages I am learning Japanese and Spanish hurt my ears. I will wait for multilingual voices also the ChatGPT vision for Japanese subtitles is a joke for once Bard actually does a better job at something. I agree the this will be a game changer in a few months and for English students congrats 20$ a month for unlimited lessons is an amazing value.
Ah, I hope the Japanese gets better too (my brother is learning Japanese, so I’m hoping to set up some good tools for him). For Spanish though, I think the voices are pretty solid. The Spanish accents still aren’t perfect, but they felt good enough to do some decently long back and forth conversations in the tests I did.
I agree that it’s only really useful for English right now. I noticed the English accent in German and Japanese. As a native speaker it doesn’t matter much, but as a language learner it makes things harder to understand. Would have been nice to mention that at least.
A word of caution: Voice features are only available with a paid subscription of 22€ a month. More importantly, voice exchanges are LIMITED. If you practice your language skills with the AI, you will reach your limit fairly quickly.
Thanks friend! The voice you're hearing around 11:05 is coming from a desktop plugin rather than from the native voices on the app. It should be the first plugin I showed off in this video: ua-cam.com/video/_J6e0JHl3C4/v-deo.html
MTL is usually good at languages like Spanish but atrocious at Japanese (it is sometimes okay at Chinese and Korean), is ChatGPT any better than Google Translate when it comes to Japanese? Learning easier isn't helpful if you're learning the wrong words/meanings.
I’m looking for a substitute for a native Spanish speaker. I am learning Spanish and because I live in England I’m finding it hard to find a native Spanish speaker to converse with. I want a two way conversation to happen. Will this ChatGPT app do this or not?
Chatbot with a voice does help to certain degree, but for now,, it would not yet replace traditional language learning, you can't beat real-time spontaneous interaction with other speakers of that language, Learning a language does not only involve pronunciation, writing skills, speaking fluency, listening skills etc, those are only the surface level skills, spontaneity plays a big part in this, real-time conversation or speech requires lots of mental horsepower such as lexical retrieval, word-forming, syntax, phonological planification, online monitoring, etc. Each of those steps mentioned above happens in terms of milliseconds. Plus, the intention to communicate constitute the intention to assign words to meaning, using signifiers to signify signified.
it’s cool but i’d to be able to see the text as i speak. also if they could give me stuff to say as a beginner it would help. languagereactor is my current fav
This is really cool, but I think there's still a need to a) learn the formal grammar along with the conversation practice so that you have metacognition on the language you're learning, and b) follow some sort of framework as to what you discuss so that you pick up a broad spectrum of useful vocabulary. I can see it being too easy to accidentally end up with blind spots if you only talk to the AI about whatever you happen to be in the mood for at the time.
I’ve never used this tech but am already thinking of how to customize it… I’d ask my chatbot to be my extreme sociopathic motivational coach/dual personality with well crafted backhanded complements .. might be really fun to set up bots to speak to each other. Could get interesting pretty quick ya?
All of you should realize that there is no such thing as chatGPT voice. Yes, their app has a voice interface, but that’s not part of the LLM. The voice interface works as follows: you say something which is converted to text by some speech-to-text tool like google speech or whisper. The resulting text is transferred to chatGPT, which replies in text again. Next, the reply of chatGPT is converted by some text-to-speech tool to audio. Speech recognition is not really mature yet, and neither is text-to-speech. So no, you’ll learn a lot of errors and not realize it. Nevertheless it’s a nice tool
I'm on the fence about going for ChatGPT plus premium, is it really worthit just for language learning? Any help would be appreciated. Keep up learning!
I've been using it for helping me with uni assignments and just for fun and it's totally worth it. GPT plus is adding "superpowers" with plugins, also you can upload documents and now you have the possibility to configure your own GPTs with specific personalities and base knowledge, so you don't need to feed it information about yourself or whatever you need help with every time you start a new chat. it's a game changer
I did not get these voice / vision features even after i upgraded to the plus subscription, it seems they are only rolling these features randomly. I asked refund.
The voice addition is great, it sounds natural, comfortable to hear, I just wish they added more control to ChatGPT to modify the voice, like "can you make it more deep voiced'", "can you emulate a voice of a 1940 radio broadcaster from America, with a trans atlantic accent?", "can you make it more breathy?", "can you make it more raspy?", "can you make it with a texan cowboy accent?".
Step 1: Play this video on your computer speakers Step 3: Start listening on ChatGPT voice asking for translation of audio into Mandarin Step 4: Input the resulting text into Synthesia or other text-to-video AI tools Step 5: Send the result to your friend
Now I’m watching this video in English on the UA-cam app on iPad. There would be some way for me to double the video into Spanish, so I could listen to the entire video in Spanish. I know there are extensions for browsers on computers but I didn’t find any option for Tablets or mobiles?
The guys who know will take advantage of this, of course. However, there is still the old type of traditional language learners how have slept on UA-cam, Language Reactor and other tools that have been around for some time and helping people like myself to get from A0, say to B2 in a language. For years that's been possible as a self-learner. Yet, these folks have no idea, paying money to teachers to teach them the traditional way. And don't worry. Even if you tell them out loud as a teacher that there is a way to rapidly improve on your own, they either have no time or just don't want to hear about these methods for some time, saying it is just for talented people etc. That's what has kept the language teaching business alive for the last 10 years. The message hasn't reached the recipient, it has simply fallen on deaf ears. I expect traditional teaching to be around in its present form for yet another 10 years even with GPT already teaching English effectively.
The Spanish accents of the voices seems to me to be the biggest issue right now. If you’re trying to learn a language and the response is pronounced very poorly, I would think you’re hurting your learning rather than helping? The one voice in your video that sounds a little closer to native Spanish is the man’s voice heard around the 11:04 minute mark. However I can’t seem to find that voice on the app. Do you remember how you got that speaker on what his name is?
The voice at 11:04 should be the Mexican accent setting on the Voice Control for ChatGPT plugin (I covered that plugin in my ChatGPT Voice video if you’re having trouble). Hope that helps 🙏🏽
1:10 lol, im learning english and my mother language is Spanish, so I understand how those people feel about practice with someone. Lo siento amigo, se me paso comentarte en español.
What do you mean by ChatGPT 2.0? When I log in, I have access to 3.5 and 4.0 from a drop-down menu. What is the actual app name you are using in this video for the two-way discussions?
You should be good! I was using “2.0” to refer broadly to the new set of updates, but this ended up being more confusing than I anticipated. You should be good if you’re seeing GPT model 3.5 and 4.0 (and assuming the features have rolled out to everyone by now). Happy to clarify more if I can!
Some brilliant ideas in this video, very interesting-but personally for me, at this stage of development, it's not going to revolutionize how I learn languages. A couple simple reasons: 1. The robot voice is not nearly as pleasant or engaging to listen to, compared to real human voices. 2. Interacting 1-on-1 with real humans (or listening to real human audio/video) is more motivating. That said, I might play around with these tools a bit more, try to find a use that adds to my process.
Do you like all of these new updates? And how do you think these AI tools will keep changing in ways that language learners can benefit?

Only issue is you can not really use voice to ask ChatGPT UpToDate information(Bing).
When is ChatGTP going to get language that is spoken in the home and not American US accent? A surprising defect
Feature not available in all countries it seems
man, this is great. how do you translate your whole video in mandarin chinese so i can send it to a friend in china learning english?
Step 1: Play this video on your computer speakers
Step 3: Start listening on ChatGPT voice asking for translation of audio into Mandarin
Step 4: Input the resulting text into Synthesia or other text-to-video AI tools
Step 5: Send the result to your friend
Also, what’s the voice plugin you are using so that you can ask the news and have it reply in voice?
Now I’m watching this video in English on the UA-cam app on iPad. There would be some way for me to double the video into Spanish, so I could listen to the entire video in Spanish. I know there are extensions for browsers on computers but I didn’t find any option for Tablets or mobiles?
Thanks!
which version are you using?
This video was a mix of GPT-3 (now -3.5) and GPT-4
Very helpful video
I’m glad you found it useful 🙏🏽
Fantastic!!
I lost my voice talking app for Chatgpt
1:10 lol, im learning english and my mother language is Spanish, so I understand how those people feel about practice with someone. Lo siento amigo, se me paso comentarte en español.
Hermano! Todos lo hemos experimentado en algún instante. Es lo que conlleva aprender un idioma.
I'm using the official ChatGPT app on android but can't see the option to talk (?) I can only dictate. I'm on the free plan.
Je says in the video this feature is only available in the paid version.
Sorry, how do I get the voice part in the ChatGPT mobile app for android? I can speak but the responses are only on text?
It's amazing but also too expensive for someone like me.
Do you need to sign up or it works without having to sign up?
Can you speak two languages at the same time? Let's say when you forget a word in Spanish and use English to ask it in a Spanish conversation.
If they ever lift the 40 prompts per 3hrs limit this will be an absolutely awesome way to learn languages
Fully agree
If you subscribe to the service they lift the limit, i think.
@@erola2023 They still have the limit even for Plus users, sadly
@@JerryRegistre 40 lines?
@@erola2023 40 messages (e.g. 3 paragraphs in 1 message counts as 1/40 messages)
Maybe it’s obvious to some but I don’t know which app you’re talking about. There’s so many on the app Store
This one! (the official app from OpenAI) apps.apple.com/us/app/chatgpt/id6448311069
My chatgpt has no voice.. where did you get the right app?
So gpt (vision) is not yet available to the public as of now? I
It is have to enable beta in the settings area just click on the 3 dots in the lower left corner also need a plus account.
brilliant!
Really glad to hear you liked the video! 🙌🏽
Aprender cualquier tema con IA es muy BACANO, estaremos volviéndonos unos genios, con tanta tecnología: QUE CHIMBA.
Can i learn it without purchase gpt 4?
A couple simple reasons:
1. The robot voice is not nearly as pleasant or engaging to listen to, compared to real human voices.
2. Interacting 1-on-1 with real humans (or listening to real human audio/video) is more motivating.
That said, I might play around with these tools a bit more, try to find a use that adds to my process.
Does it have the capacity to slow down the speed of Chatgpt voice?
