So we are just going to forget the fact that it was the artist's fault that Hank looked abusive when it was supposed to be an accident, that Hank was experiencing a mental breakdown at the time (not an excuse, but some context), that Hank hasn't even touched Janet ever since, Tony has done way worse things both before and after (which everyone conviniently forgets and/or forgives), and the only (semi)widely known time Hank was actively abusive to Janet was in the alternate, 1610 universe? Ok 😒.
It took me the whole video to get it, but this is way too politicaly correct of a viewpoint for criticizing comics, darker stories can be good, and it's not like there shouldn't be any depiction of aparent female traits for a comics to be decent
Dark stories shouldn’t leave the consumers with a bad taste in their mouths. These aren’t complaints in the comic community. Obviously there are really well done darker storylines like Demon in a bottle. In cyclops is a fair on Jean Gray with Emma Frost, in Cyclops of Bandon in his wife and child for Jean Gray. But those storylines were well done and there was a Point to all of it
The spider woman art piece wasn't that bad considering that the character was always depicted as a sexy gals with her pheromone powers amplifying said sexiness
“He was mostly seen as a villain because he was Asian” Bro are you sure it also wasn’t because he wanted to take over the world and did some terrible things ?😂😂
A lot of these "storylines" gloss over or ignore the wider context ; - Spider-Man is depicted doing the same pose with as skin tight costume on numerous occasions - Ultimate's comics was going for being edgy, Old Man Logan going for worst ending timeline Also what specifically is inappropriate about hulk having a harem?
Because it’s not Monogamy!!!! SCARY I know. I was terrified. Because as we all know, everything has to fit the status quo of Modern hyper Christian America!!!
That Carol Danvers story drove me away from Avengers until I heard Roger Stern was taking it over. As was written elsewhere, that Hank Pym spousal abuse issue was caused by Jim Shooter and Bob Hall (the artist) miscommunicating. Thankfully, much like a lot of things to do with bad Marvel, Steve Englehart managed to salvage Hank Pym (however briefly) in his West Coast Avengers run.
Are artists and stories just not allowed to dive into the darkest parts of our being anymore? We can't just keep ignoring and pretending our dark sides don't exist. It is blinding and delusional.
Judging stuff from the past by today’s standards and morals.. some of the stuff is unnecessary and yes inappropriate even at those times but comics are also not just for children. I’m not defending these comics, but they should always be taken with a grain of salt because it’s fictional for crying out loud. Super heroes are not supposed to be perfect in my opinion which is what makes them more relatable through their flaws, otherwise every super hero would just be captain America or superman. Comics are art, the story’s are art, and personally I like that different authors can make stories in a variety of different ways. I definitely don’t like all these comics but somewhere out there someone might really enjoy them. I don’t believe they should sensor the comics but instead just put an over 18 warning on them and if you find them to inappropriate or distasteful… you don’t have to read them it’s as simple as that. I’m sorry for the long rant, guess I just wanted to vent my 2 cents on the topic but it’s just my opinion and not everyone has to agree with it.
But if you didn't judge the past by the standards of today, how do you know you're a better person than those that came before? They had a more recent story that actually had Hulk kissing She-Hulk in front of a bunch of heroes in a very romantic/sexual fashion with the heroes showing praise and acceptance for it, despite them all knowing she's his first cousin. Saw that and thought how my decision to stop reading Marvel was a good one, put the comic back on the shelf and went back to my independent titles.
As often as possible yes. We'll even ignore that the majority of the time he's in that pose there's at least one villain behind him leering and looking creepy
You should not have even mentioned the Spiderwoman comic cover. It shows a clear double standard of women versus male treatment. The pose is exactly the same as the one Spiderman has done before and again EVERYONE somehow forgets to mention that which I would not expect from you. In otherwords. It is only ever inappropriate to be suggestive if protrayed by a woman.
Turned this off at 3:39, I refuse to do this pretend, re-writing of history you’re trying to do saying over-grown muscular, handsome super-men was always ok but having abs-bearing, big breasted, beautiful super-women was somehow “depicting women poorly” or something it wasn’t. There was ALWAYS awesome female representation, strong women characters, sexualized and non-sexualized, villains and heroes in comics since the beginning. The picture you guys use as an example LITERALLY has Sue Storm standing in the background fully clothed from neck to toe, not an inch of skin showing. Huge fail. I can’t stand this revisionist history everyone tries to do with pop culture to try and score points with whatever crowd their white guilt is forcing them to.

Considering how the person decrying descriptions of cousin incest is a subject of the British Crown (even to today, a long time practitioner of cousin incest), you'll excuse me for ignoring this video's take on the Hulk family storyline.
Marrying your cousin is legal in several 'western' countries so the Hulk Arc really isn't too far. Note I haven't looked too deeply into a lot of countries and I do mean the UK, USA, AU, Canada (and that is where I stopped)
Although a bit inappropriate, and even disgusting at times, these types of events tend to occur in our world all the time, and so I like that they explore these different scenarios and show that these heroes aren't just perfect and uncompromising beings that never do wrong or put themselves before others EVER. It's almost like introducing a heafty dose of realism into comics. They obviously are not going to be suitable for everyone, nor will everyone find entertainment value in them, but as I always say - To each their own! I hope they continue having alternate story arcs that explore the very real and disturbing scenarios one might expect to see involving worlds full of super beings able to take whatever they want when they want - it's absolute nonsense to expect them all to remain so perfect and be incorruptible to any degree....
WhatCulture made a video which is made to fit the contemporary standards. Tbh it is not possible to watch the vids the same way they were 3-4 years ago. The politics and liberalism can now clearly be traced in the video. Who cares about Hulk’s harem? It makes him cool. Who cares about Spider Woman’s cover? How is this sexualized? The whole part about women was hilariously dumb. Nearly all men in Marvel are mountains of muscles and women can not look the same. Double standards can clearly be traced here, sadly.
