From the Koenigsegg Gemera Press Release:
"As the world's first 4-seater Megacar, defined by its awe-inspiring power of over 1 megawatt, the Gemera was already a striking feat of engineering. However, the Client Specification version takes it even further with pioneering advancements.
However, during the development process, the Light Speed Transmission (LST) was introduced in the acclaimed Jesko, which delivers unparalleled excitement and performance. “We could not resist exploring the possibility of incorporating these remarkable features and benefits into the Gemera production model, leading us down an exciting new development path - the Light Speed Tourbillon Transmission (LSTT),” explains Christian.
To complement the engine and the LSTT, the R&D team has also developed the "Dark Matter" E-motor - an 800 hp, 1250 Nm patent-pending Raxial Flux E-motor that is an evolutionary leap in electric propulsion, representing the world's most powerful automotive-grade E-motor with 6-phase technology. One Dark Matter is now paired with the LSTT, instead of 3 Quarks E-motors with the Direct Drive system. This makes the drivetrain lighter, smaller, and even more engaging. The LSTT four-wheel drive system with four-wheel torque vectoring can be powered by either the 800 hp Dark Matter E-motor or the twin-turbo TFG, or a combination of the two, resulting in a maximum output of 1400 hp and 1850 Nm.
The Client Specification Gemera not only retains its inherent qualities but also adds the lightness and responsiveness LST in the form of the LSTT. “We added 'Tourbillon' to the name of the LST, as this mechanism represents the automotive equivalent of a high-end Swiss watch and is simply beautiful,” explains Christian von Koenigsegg.
Even so, we have yet another thrilling announcement-the Koenigsegg Gemera HV8 (Hot V8) version. The HV8 elevates the Gemera beyond any Hypercar or Megacar and takes everything to the next level. Before we came up with the LSTT, it was impossible to believe we could fit a mid-engined V8 configuration in the Gemera, given the large occupant space in comparison to the compact size of the Gemera.
However, the layout of the LSTT allowed us to do it. To make it happen, we had to convert the Jesko V8 into a so-called Hot V8 where the exhaust exits at the top center, but otherwise, it is very similar to the Jesko engine. With this new engine configuration, the Gemera boasts an astounding 1500 hp from the HV8 in addition to the 800 hp provided by the Dark Matter E-motor, resulting in a total of 2,300 hp and 2,750 Nm of torque - a new world record for a production car.
"The Gemera HV8 is not only the most powerful and extreme production car on the planet Earth, with an astonishing 1,11 hp per kg, but it is also the most practical and user-friendly sports car ever created. Its incredible response, handling, engine sound, crisp transmission, spacious interior, and four-wheel-drive systems combine to create an unprecedented and unparalleled driving experience, ready to set numerous records of performance around tracks and in straight lines. We are extremely proud to have brought the Gemera HV8 to life and very much look forward to delivering this new level of performance and technology to our esteemed clients and fans," says Christian."

I agree with you on the small complaint regarding the V8 engine option. Although the Jesko V8 is certainly cool, the TFG is one of the things that makes the Gemera unique, and suddenly deciding to allow customers to have a Jesko V8 instead kind of kills all of the hard work that went into making the TFG. I just hope that there are some gazillionaires out there that appreciate the unique engineering of the 3-cylinder and choose it instead of the V8.

Jason - how about some maths to estimate the acceleration of this thing. Weight will probably be ~1800kg - 1950kg dry - you could estimate from there, and have educated guesses about the curb weight, aerodynamic Cd, frontal area, and rolling resistance, and say use the Jesko gearing ...
Koenigsegg even trot out a 1.11hp per kg model - and yet say it weighs well under 2000kg ???

I think the 3 cilinder option might be faster around a track. It's lighter & there might not be a lot of top end >2000hp need around a curvy track. The V8 is definitely a straight line record beating beast.

I still want the 2020 Gemera drivetrain to happen though. Such a great successor of the RWD opnly Gemera.
I'd very much want to see it in a lower cost vehicle. Scale down the power, stick it in a somewhat affordable sports car. Imagine the Lotus Emira, getting a still smaller 400 hp engine, and 600 hp or so in 3 MGUs like 2020 Gemera, half the battery size or less and that torque converter. Gear it not for 400+ kph like the 2020 Gemera, but to 260 kph or so. That makes the ICE torque to suffice at much lower speeds, aided by a lower weight than Gemera as well. Should be such a satisfying way to drive... 9 gears is just meh. Their manual 6 speed from that 9 speed is a wonderful thing, let it rev out a bit!

I was worried about tires and chains when my old bike (power of a lawn mower) was stretching chains and ruining tires in 2k miles, then got a bike that could still pull a wheelie at faster than top speed of my other bike. Thinking about it though its torque (force at that distance) that is the real issue. Truly the max torque was still the same because max torque until doing a wheelie is simply CG distance x weight, the tire cannot exceed this at any speed (at least for long without flipping the bike). Both bikes are therefore limited to the same torque, and with similar front sprockets (rear sprocket does not matter for max chain tension, only front sprocket size, smaller creates larger tension) then the chain really isn't stressed much more even with 10x the power.
Always trippy thinking about it, but the force at the rubber of the tire is the same (unless doing burnouts), its just physics. Only difference is you can keep that max torque at higher rpm (wheel speeds).

Then you're stuck with a package in need of large batteries, and you no longer have a car that's under 2 tons. As it currently stands the Gemera is a 4-seater hybrid weighing something like 1900kg, making 2300 hp. Contrast that with a Rimac Nevera that's a 2 seater weighing 2300kg, making 1900hp... The serendipity of the Gemera and Nevera numbers being reversed is a poetic reminder that the EV has not yet caught up to the hybrid.

Even in the first concept, I never really got why they went with the hassle of a drive shaft going through the whole vehicle, instead of just having an electric motor in the front and one or two (plus the ICE) in the back. Basically like a Toyota, but the correct way around 😉

    • @Cloxxki
      @Cloxxki 9 місяців тому +1

I needed to hear about the clutches to somehow enable "true" torque vectoring. I'm a slightly skeptical on how well that will work. Won't those get hot? The unusually short presentation did make it clear the rear wheels were now driven. A lot of the changes make sense, but the 2020 configuration is super cool. I just think that with the high top speed geared for, and less than half as powerful engine versus the Regera's, it was a pain to make it all work. In a 250 kph luxury car vs a 400+ kph hypercar, it may have been a breeze to install, even if flipped front to back as practical road car tend to have the engine in the front where it's easy to make room.
Now with the gearbox, the energy flow will work out much better on the 3-cyl based system, and to everyone's surprise, the V8 can be made to fit as well. To drive teh front axle with the V8 doesn't make sense, why even look? But to now manage that and put 3 carry-on back behind it even...madness in a 4seater that looks like a 2-seater. Best car ever. Bugatti looks utterly foolish now. Can't wait to see what the Bugatti/Rimac collab brings from them next. I suspect a "bland" V12, maybe with 4 light motors, one per wheel, and same weight as the W16 cars of old.

Love this video. I expected cluthc magic to be involved, and it's better than I thought it would be. And I wrote on a complex hybrid patent application once, 16 pages. Some German dude had already done the same prior and sat on his patent...
Koenigsegg has been vocal about designing MGUs (e motors) to a specific desired RPM, for direct drive applications such as in eVTOL, to save weight and complexity. In NOPE mode it sure helps as well. Love it. It probably doesn't help to engage all clutches, but they could. Even on a top speed run it's probably better to keep from and rear disconnected, just let the MGU keep pulling on the front while the gearbox does its shifts for the rear axle. Although...if the front axle can't handle all the torque the MGU has to offer, perhaps torque fill to the rear actually doees make sense, hmmm...The clutch would need to be less than close shut I guess to prevent catatrophic binding.
