@@4KidsandaFarm I would like to know the dimension of the hardware cloth squares. I would like the poop to fall through the cage floor so I can use it in my compost pile. One person told us that the poop cakes up if the squares are just 1/4".
@@4KidsandaFarm In your video, I see 1/2". I use 1/4" & it's much smaller. I use a solid bottom with pine shavings, but am considering switching to a rollout like this. I came here to see if you had any issues, since you mentioned your quail used to be on pine shavings also. Sounds llike it worked out fine.
Hi!! Love this system! It looks simple, and sleek! Thanks so much for sharing! May I ask for an update? How have your quail been in it? Have you had to make any improvements? Did you end up adding weathering strips on the roll out?
I really like this build. I will have to figure out how to build a hinged cover over the egg rollout tray due to the predators I have here in the woods. I also needed the education on the heighth of cage needed.
I like the design. Good job. Dewalt makes a 1/4 crown stapler just like your Brad nailer that anchors the wire down solid. A sand box for the birds keeps them occupied. Excellent job and well built - It's also big enough to give them a sand bath - I use a seed tray with a cover to keep down the amount of sand scattered - with a hole at each end for them to enter and leave - I know they will probably lay some of their eggs in it but it does keep them healthy and mite free - I put in a little DE and grit to help with shell formation - they pick what they want out of it and it's all natural....!
quail eggs are much thicker than chicken eggs so there's less of a chance that the little eggs will crack hitting the wood but I guess if you're concerned about fractures when you're incubating, you could use a thin foam weather strip on the wood. Thanks for sharing your build.
I loved the build… professionally done.. one suggestion though.. try painting the wire mesh black.. it gives a more see through effect as it does not reflect light unlike the white mesh.. gives a better view of what’s happening inside the cage..!

Hello! Do you happen to have the step by step instructions for this? I have ordered all the supplies you recommended but can't find the step by step guide for measurements and such. Thank you!
I would add a sand box for a dust bath. These birds love a dust bath. Just enclose one end of the cage with an entrance to the area and put a dishpan filled with sand and a little diatomaceous earth. They will love you for it. Otherwise, your cage is very well made. I have a similar one that is not as good as yours, and I have successfully raised quail in it for years.

@@4KidsandaFarm one question. Did you put anything under to catch their droppings? I’ve got to imagine that’ll stack up after while.
@@jamesndelilahpinckney914 we do not...we move it frequently but have thought about placing a tote underneath it and covering the dropping with leaves or bark in layers to create a compost...
Hello! Do you happen to have the step by step instructions for this? I have ordered all the supplies you recommended but can't find the step by step guide for measurements and such. Thank you!
Appreciate the video
I love your repurposed ping pong table! What a great workspace.
Yes! It makes a perfect flat surface...also my usual workspace had stuff all over it already 😂
Why does almost everyone think they have to have this annoying music? Just build the thing quietly it’s much more satisfying
@@wonderwoman703 🤷♂️ hopefully it didn’t bother you too bad. We try our best to mix the diy with good music.
Amazing
It came out really nice! just becareful they don't get a cut end up with bumblefoot
Excellent
Thanks Pedro!
How tall was the gap for the eggs to roll out? Awesome build by the way you did a great job!! Easy, simple, not over complicated!!
I build flat cages, with 10 inch head space. Then adjusting angle by tilting entire cage. First year using as Grow-Out Pens, going just find. They work well for transporting large or small numbers too.
that's awesome! how many quail do you grow out a year. sounds like your pretty high production.
@@4KidsandaFarm :...I grow-out about 100 for me ( Big Ones ). We incubate, hatch & grow chicks mostly....about 1,000 this year, 3,000 chicks was the most. They come in in Egg cartons and leave, as chicks, in carboard boxes. No shortage of compost.
Wow! 😳
Very cool build! New sub👍🏻
Thanks so much! Do you raise quail?
@@4KidsandaFarm No, but I’m thinking I’d like too. My Husband is not on board though.
