love the tip on the orientation of the wires on the floor to help egg rolling. its a small thing i didn't think of but makes complete sense. thanks so much we are going to build some of these very soon. my hubby is price checking today so we can get materials Yay more Quail!!!
I just want to say thanks for this video series. Idk how much extra time you have but this was very valuable. I just started up and spent the last few hours building most of this cage. I really appreciate this. Thank you for making these videos.
I'm currently building my cage & I made this very same modification! The measurement is slightly different from font to back (only 27") but appears to be sufficient. How cool is that ... This vid appeared in my feed same day I made the floors! ❤
This was great, thanks, I've been looking for "diy breeder quail" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Eeyila Rudimentary Expediency - (should be on google have a look ) ? It is a good one of a kind guide for discovering how to raise healthy and fertile quail without the normal expense. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my m8 got cool success with it.
Best cages I've saw. The build was very well explained, and fun to build, even with just a hand saw. Works great as designed. Thank you for sharing. God bless.
Man Terry I asked you about this a couple of weeks ago and was so pleasantly surprised that you already did one on roll out cages.and that tip about the correct way to place the wire . Thanks a million you're awesome!!!!
This is glorious, been searching for "quail enclosure" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Eeyila Rudimentary Expediency - (do a google search ) ? It is an awesome one of a kind guide for discovering how to raise healthy and fertile quail minus the hard work. Ive heard some super things about it and my neighbour got great success with it.
Anyone that gives this a thumbs down is nuts! Your videos are amazing and I love the step by step so even the laymen can do it! Now I have to choose between poop control or eggs rolling out.
Another great video Terri, love your attention to detail and pro tips like attaching the wire in the proper configuration so the eggs roll easier. Thank for sharing your experience. You rock !
This was great, thanks, I have been researching "breeding quail" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Eeyila Rudimentary Expediency - (search on google ) ? It is a smashing one off guide for discovering how to raise healthy and fertile quail without the headache. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my m8 got excellent results with it.
Appreciate you making this videos sir. The cage building is my concern, I'd really like to have the eggs roll out seeing that quail are not like chickens and just leave eggs wherever they may. Our chickens even lay the green eggs in their own box! We have very knit picky birds lol.
New subscriber. Iv had an interest in raising quail so iv been looking at a ton of videos. Im also a diy guy and when i kept seeing your channel videos pop up i had to check out your channel. Great info and great builds. Im here to stay! Ill be raising my first group this spring, a big help from your videos!
Thank you and welcome to the channel. I'm glad you find our channel useful. Don't forget to join us on our Facebook Group page at: facebook.com/groups/2411942688854936/ Lots of good people there.
FYI for those new to quail raising, like me. Coturnix up to 3 to 4 weeks of age can crawl under the gap. Keep a 2x4 in the gaps until they are larger, they need it for the waterers anyway. It didn't look like they could fit, but they did.
Yes so true,I had two birds escape this way. It was very comical at the time as I didn't know how they were getting out. I kept putting them back in the cage, and a few minutes later the two males were strutting around, then I finally seen where they were getting out, which was the egg tray. I just blocked the tray off,for a few weeks. It was quite funny 😂 and made me laugh.
@@stanleycarmichael7425 Lol. Glad your experience was better than mine. I had about 6 escape. Ended up finding them all, but the dog got ahold of one and he didn't survive 24hrs. I was REALLY close to finding the last one with my mower. Luckily he jumped instead of ducked.
If I ever find time I'm going to build some of these cages and jump feet first into quail. LoL I've been thinking about it for a couple of years but something always side rails me. Mostly honey bees.
Oh man, I wish I would've watched this before I cut out all my pieces based on the other video about building the cages. The other video says 6 pieces at 22 1/2 inches, so I'll need to get some more wood.
Can i get measurements and materials needed for the stackable with roll outs for eggs. My husband said it was here but havent found it. Love your videos. Thank you so much !
WOW....I sure Need Some Help Please......I built the stacking cages as you showed in the flat bottom cage...but...I added this roll-out flooring to each cage. *My concern is the large opening at the bottom front where the eggs roll under the door....what keeps the birds from crawling out under the door and the area to the right of the door?* Should I add a 1x2 to fill that space until the birds get bigger? Or am I doing something wrong in my build? Thanks so much for all your help.....the videos you create are so helpful. Thanks
Great video and explanation sir! You have lots of experience with building these I see. I responded to a craigslist ad that's in San Jose area. Wondering if this is you. I purchased a 48 egg incubator on Amazon. I'm looking to start raising quail. Thank you for the wonderful video.
Great Video! I plan on building this when I return from overseas. Would it be worthwhile to add a cover to the egg rollout to prevent eggs from getting taken?
I’m getting ready to build this egg roll out version. I’ve done so much research and this is my favorite build. I got all the materials wrote down, but how many 2x2s to I need to purchase? And also was you able to make a video on how to build the watering system?
I like your cages and your feeder and water ideas.. Ihave to say, this one is too much like a battery hen cage for me. Wouldn't the quail use nestboxes?
Hello Terry! Thank you for the amazing detailed plans and execution. It is just something I can not understand on both videos this and the standard one. You are using 1 x 2 for the floors, but in this case you say 27.5 inches and when they go in between the rails it will give a total of 29 inches. It shouldn't be 27 + (2 x 1) = 29 inches ? It is not a big issue on this as it will be just 0.5 inch longer but on the standard one it will be out by half inch unless I am getting something wrong, can you please clarify ?
Does the angle on the floor bother the quail's feet at all? Do they feel like they are slipping down all the time? I would love to know your thoughts on that
After making each top egg roll-out, what material is used on top of each stacked cage, so that the poop doesn't fall on chicks underneath without the pan, and what is the measurements between each cage ?
Hello Terry! I currently have single cages that are raised 60", wire bottom drop through. Trying to be more efficient on space and add another layer. Therefore I'll need some poop trays. Would you be able to provide a link to your point of purchase? If you purchased from a box store, could you provide store and tray detail. Thanks for your knowledge, I greatly appreciate it.
After watching this video, I see why your doors open up instead of down. They could just as easily swing to the side, couldn't they? I have no idea why I'm hung up on the doors. (No pun intended!) This was a great modification. Mine will be outside, at least through fall, so I don't think I want the rolling egg shelf. I'd be afraid of snakes getting in through that opening. I'm from MA (Cape Cod), but now live in mid-Missouri. We have a lot of snakes here.
LOL ... love the pun. Yes, the egg roll outs played a roll in the door hinge placement. Also, I'm kinda short and have a hard time reaching in the cages so opening upwards seemed like the best option. Thanks for your comments.
Do they need a particular area with bedding or anything else for laying? I wonder if instead of putting the entire living area on an angle, if there is a way to encourage them to lay in one area and angle that area or make it so you can lower it to collect the eggs and then raise it back level again.
Hey there, The link to those great looking metal pans doesn't work anymore for the metal types, but changes to a plastic style that is quite pricey. Do you have a secondary source, or a specific description for a Duck Duck Go search? Your Green Coated Wire also links to a non-coated roll that is 24" wide. Thanks. Cheers from the Oil Patch in Central WY
Hi Terry, I'm new at this but I'm planning on starting quail this spring. I'd like to start selling eggs and meat locally but I'm not sure how to go about. Your videos helped me understand alot so thankyou. I have a million questions but I guess my main question is how many quail do you keep per slot? I'm planning on starting with 100 chicks. All advice is greatly appreciated. Thankyou
Hi Nathan, I try not to go more than 3 birds per sq foot of floor space. Just remember if you keep upwards of 3 birds per sq. ft to supply a large enough feeder and water supply for your birds. Good luck & thanks for the comment!
great video. I will be building new cages soon and using your video as a guide. I do have one question. Do you have any issues with eggs cracking or breaking when they roll down into other eggs or hit the wood?
What is the max high at tip of quail feeder? I dont have any quail yet so wondering as my feeder high is 4.75 inches. Wondering if it too high and need to lower it.
@@CoturnixCorner Thank you sir. Been learning alot from all your videos. If I can not lower it, will 4.75 still works for adult quails. Because of the egg roll slope I would need to cut into the crossing wood frame.
That orientation of the wire was an excellent tip.
Glad it was helpful!

How do the quail do being on an incline 24/7? Maybe I'm over thinking it 😂 but I wonder if it's hard on them.
Where do I go to get written instructions and how much angle do you put on an egg roll out
