Repotting Dendrobium Orchid into Semi Hydro | Removing Old Canes - Exploring LECA & Inorganic Media

- Today I’m repotting my Dendrobium Buttercup orchid. In the process, we will remove a rotted cane and I’ll walk you through the semi hydro / self watering pot set up I’ve accommodated it in with a top layer of pebbles.
Check out Annabel over at The Orchid Room here:

She’s got great content on semi hydro & self watering set ups and I’ve learned a lot from her experiments.

Good job miss
Great repoting! Thanks for sharing. How is your dendrobium doing ? Do you have an update video?
Thanks for watching! She's blooming right now ☺️ I showed her in my latest monthly update.
@@NicoleDeanna I think I watched. Is it with four spike and pink blooms? Very beautiful! Love it!
I love the blooms on the Den. Buttercup. I love the colors.😍
So how do you water them with the wick? Do you keep water in the outer pot?
Yes, there's water in the outer pot and the wick slowly absorbs it and brings it to the leca which makes a humid environment. Check out my semi hydro guide, I posted it around 3 weeks ago 💝
Could you add an update? I’m new to orchids and plan on using this system for them. Just a bit nervous I’ll ruin them.
Your orchids are lovely, btw!
Thanks for watching! I'm updating this in my monthly updates videos. I'll do another update on it later this month. It's growing tons of roots into the medium. I'm having some issues with spotting on the leaves though. I think it's unrelated to semi hydro, and possibly a nutrient deficiency which I'm working on. So far semi hydro is working well for me, and i successfully transitioned some brassavolas and Cattleyas over, they are all throwing down new roots like crazy. I'm also working on a 3 month update on some other orchids I repotted 2 months ago, one more month and I'll put the full transition vid up. 🙂
I have old bare canes on my Dendrobium, will it put out new leaves once it's bare. I've repotted and have a lot of new canes growing.
Once the leaves fall off it will not put needs new leaves but it'll be helpful as it's still useful to the orchid and provides energy. The new growths will have leaves, which over time may shed depending on what type it is.
