Making Durin's War Hammer [The Rings of Power] LoTR
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 вер 2022
- We travel to Middle-earth to create Durin's War Hammer based on the designed from Lord of the Rings : #theringsofpower Season2 . Durin is one of the 7 Dwarvin kings to be named Durin. We believe this is Durin the 3rd in the Prime Video show. His hammer has a stone breaking point and is forged from solid steel. Some by hand and some by power hammer, watch as the team forges this massive war hammer and brings to life a part of Tolkien lore. Thanks to @PrimeVideo for sponsoring this episode.

Thanks for watching this build video and thanks to Prime Video for sponsoring it! Check out The Rings of Power on PRIME and let us know what build we should do next!
I actually want to see if you guys can make Gael's Greatsword from Dark Souls 3. I wanna see if you can make a broken, rusted, and chipped blade instead of a clean-looking one
Great work and no I'm not gonna check that absolute garbage.
Requesting a Kabyle flyssa, preferably with some form of Damascus/pattern welding technique (especially with a Japanese style, especially with a clay quench with asha lined), especially out of either meteorite, tamahagane, crucible steel, or preferably some combination of two or even all three
Rings of Power sucks it is an insult to Tolkien and Peter Jackson's work. I think this is the first time I will now being watching a build
Don't dishonor and disgrace yourselves by remaking anything on that woke trash show
The carrot joke was so surprising i almost spit my tea :D Nicely done, both the hammer and the humor.
Yes, luckily for me I had swallowed my drink before that scene!
@@jamesyoung7560 i like the carrot too
They needed to add a mug of Dwarven Ale as well ......😜😜
time stamp?
As I thought that's a carrot Illya has the branches on it then matt starts talking about the carrot.
No matter what you feel about the show, love this build.
We appreciate that
Absolutely, it turned out so beautiful and watching it split rock was like watching a man cut wood.
Nah they took amazons dark money. Fuck these cucks. Hammer looks shit too
The show is crap
@@knifeworld3048 saw only episode 1 and could not agree more, who gives a damn about galadriel? we KNOW how her story ends. and Ooooo the "stranger" you idiots that Sauron! its so obviously sauron.
Kinda weird that Amazon commissioned you guys for this build and didn’t provide better images and specs for the hammer, either way.. amazing work as always.
Honestly depending what part of the production (of the Rings of Power series that is) this build was commissioned, it might not be that odd at all as it's possible that those better pics don't exist at all or existed only in the archives of the wrong department. Marketing was probably responsible for this sponsoring deal, while the prop department (which easily could have been a sub-contractor) would have any plans or still that aren't needed for marketing and it could be big deal to get copies of those pics to an outsider.
TV productions are after all massively complex and there's rights that can be tied with several companies that makes things even more complex.
The Durian fruits were a nice touch! 😆
I was afraid people wouldnt get it.
The tongue in cheek humor sent me directly to the thumbs up button! Good stuff and beautiful “first” hammer!
Just the power hammer idling in the background...mwahahaha
Never thought I’d see an elf and a dwarf smithing together😂
You guys are the best !
anything is possible with the magic of Middle-earth
It's the silmarions all over again.
This has to be the first video of yours where I liked the talk more than the build itself, which is awesome for what it is.
I simply looove the, not so subtle jabs aimed at prime. I love it!
Sincerely made my day! 😆
4:22 - That's okay. We already know from The Hobbit that the Dwarves use power hammers. Some weird and overly bombastic ones, but still.
The horizontal two-sided one that probably takes an hour to re-set after each strike is my favorite.
@@Earthenfist And he uses it to make some kind of teeny tiny thing.
At first I thought you were forging it by hand with 2 strikers and I thought man that's a gigantic piece of steel! Then I heard the power hammer and saw marks then the marks it makes! Still. Great work!
Part of the joke. Keen eye!
@@ThatWorks and what a joke it is!
Seriously, thank you!
I havent laughed so hard in a while 😅
I'll admit, I went back and forth for a bit until you did the zoom.
😆 The amount of cheek in this video while simultaneously creating, yet another, absolute masterpiece... You guys. Just... Stay around forever.
Totally get the message, freaking love this episode.
Thank you and thank you!
That beginning joke is a loremaster like Ilya's way of saying "The show sucks, but I like money and making things".
Right the show is a dumpster fire
The subtle shade throughout this vid lmao
That ending: "Make our first warhammer on this channel." Was that a dig at a certain actress? If so, HILARIOUS!
I don't get it can you explain?
What is the mystery here?
@@ashesofhopesinabonfireofdr6341 The actress that played the character Disa, Durin's wife, kept going on and on in her promotional videos and interviews about how she was the first female Dwarf to be presented onscreen. There were a bunch of them in The Hobbit films. *sad trombone.
It struck me as odd that Ilya would say this is their first warhammer, when they made a really nice one last year. Unless I misheard him, but I played it back and don't think I did.
@@Thomas.Wright It's possible they filmed this before the other war hammer.
@@ExplosiveFetus Just checked the date on that video. It's way older than I expected. I thought it was about a year old; more like 2 1/2 years. So I have my doubts. I'll check this video again to see if there are any clues that it was filmed nearly three years ago, but again, I doubt it.
Da Lawd of dem Rangs
Da Rangs of Powaah
I loved the carrot 🤣 Fantastic job, as always!!
Awsome build! You guys really outdone yourselves on this one! I really like how much longer the finished build was shown/displayed on the screen. It really gave the us the viewers time to appreciate the details and all the hard work yall put into this one. Thanks again can't wait for the next one!
That was epic! And a Great "first" warhammer!
Thank you Eetu
Anyone else thinking solo levelling a daggers would be a good project to commemorate it getting a show?
God no. It's such a shitshow if you read the novel.
Solo Leveling just had great art that made it popular otherwise it's a damn pretty mediocre novel with a cardboard personality MC who's boring and just op with nothing else to show and no balance. Plus his blades are stupid and generic.
@@FrederickApollyon Exactly. It's hot garbage
@@FrederickApollyon That's a bit of overreaction. It's definitely not anything special, but it's entertaining. And its designs are awesome.
which ones?
I dont care what Ilya Alekseyev says, if he says it I believe it. "We forged that whole thing by hand." I believe it...
"A real smith doesn't use a hammer. A real smith just slaps the steel into submission." - Ilya, probably.
I know smiths tend to be a lot stronger than they look. But watching Ilya casually handle that huge hunk of steel!?!?!?!?!?!
It was quite the task. He did it well!
This hammer is the only part of RoP I'll ever see, and I'm convinced its by far the best. The "re-imagined the source material" line was classic
I might not have any interest in watching the series, but always interested in watching your builds. Also at 5:45, was that a cheeky nod to some of the criticism the series have received?;)
For me, without a doubt!
Thank you guys. And thank you for sayin' what you were saying. 😉
I've loved watching you guys for years. The Trogdor handle on the furnace had me chuckling all evening. Congrats on the Prime sponsor!
That's not a hammer, that's a two handed chisel and I love it.
this video is actually meta and hilarious
i just wanted to say that you two, Ilya and Matt, are a good chunk of the reason i became a blacksmith. i can now confiently say your videos make me feel less amazement and more motivation to go out to the shop and get swinging. thank yall so much for putting this craft out to the generations that will follow us in such an accessible way
The work you guys do is outstanding, what a team!!
The tricks that we can pick up from your videos is priceless
Love your work. I really want to like the show but I love the humor and the nods to the actual source material you brought into your creation. Great Job!
Matt called it. Totally a rock hammer :) Loved the humor you guys sprinkled in. Makes for a good balance for all the epic. Thanks!
Watching one Master and one Illya at work is always a big enjoy. Thank you guys 🥰
HAHAHA Nice!
I love your work! You guys did the build the hard way (traditionel craftmanship ) and you have my greatest respect. The dwarven folk would be proud!
Many times more effort was put into this video and the hammer than the actual show the hammer comes from, and I applaud you guys for that.
The chest, the carrot, the majestic craftsmanship, how can it be all on point! That works really fine
Great job fellas, as always. Awesome video! Looking forward to the next one!
5:45 LOL "Reimagine the source material" 😂😂😂👀👀👀
Seeing huge fantasy weapons like this is kind of a love-hate relationship.
On one hand, I enjoy seeing the build, watching the team work, and the end result. On the other, it's a huge giant set piece that uses a ton of resources and can barely be picked up and wielded.
Loved the vid, keep up the great work guys👌🏽👌🏽
if only the people writing the show had this much care and love for their work...
Amazing job as always guys! :D
So true.
Indeed
I've been subbed to Awe Me for like 12 years, and a fan of yours for just as long! And I JUST found this channel. I am ashamed, but SO excited to be here.
this was an awesome build. Looking forward to your guys next project.
Love the build and the humour. Outstanding :D
Thank you Robany!
Love the history lesson you always have. Thanks.
Great video with wonderful result. Love the into.
Gorō Nyūdō Masamune dragon head sword from Highlander would be an amazing watch, love the show great stuff.🇬🇧
That carrot joke was epic! 😂
This is the best thing that has come out of that show yet.
I've waited so long for you to return to Middle-Earth builds and this one is simply amazing. I don't usually like warhammers, but this one fascinates me for some reason.
Still, I'd really appreciate if you ever take a challenge to build some weapons from Tolkien's Legendarium that have never made it to the screen, like elven king Fingolfin's sword Ringil. I think that would be totally superb.
And if you are going to make a historical build, I'd like to propose you to take cinquedea with simply historical design or from some fantasy like Elden Ring.
Love your creations and thank you for your hard work!
Anyone else think 'its starting to look like a metal carrot' just before the put the foliage on the top !!! I actually laughed out loud!
Watched five minutes, the episode is too funny, almost cought blood laughing. But a very great work done!! 😃
Well done, liked the details on the handle.
omg this build is fantastic! Nice work!
Awesome build. Thanks
Idea for a forge. For the 40k fans.
The Warhammer of the Primarch Vulkan Dawnbringer.
Or in spirit of the forge master Primarch Ferrus Manus Forgebreaker .
(Since you gentlemen already made a massive sword , golden age Guts sword, this should be a fun challenge)
"Lets do a dwarven watermelon test." - "Ok, I have some quartz and basalt, and we need the standard granite, too."
My brain cannot even begin to realize how long that would take to actually do all by hand. lol.
Really beautiful work, as always!
You are too kind
The chaotic energy is strong with this video 😂
Awesome build guys!
Знатная колотушка получилась! Аж Илья в конце скопытился.
Loved the build guys! And remember, "Nobody tosses a dwarf!", Gimli, son of Glóin.
He couldn't make the jump so Gimli made an exception.
And also remember, “That still only counts as one!”
@@S0renz don't tell the elf.
thank you for the entertainment as ever but extra thanks to that little gem of info on the runes
Wow! Awesome and Crazy as always! Thanks!!
Awesome looking piece.
Yooo this had me dying 3:00 XD
Absolutely incredible work as usual
Love it gentlemen! Well done!!
This was a great build and a hilarious video! I couldn't hold back a chuckle at the carrot gag, it came out of nowhere and was just so unexpected and perfect.
I'd love to see you take on some weapons from Guild Wars - Shiro's daggers from Factions, perhaps, or something from the new End of Dragons expansion.
remember reading a prop guide book that alluded to Gimli's two handed axe coming from Balin's tomb and being Durin's Axe which was a cool concept.
That carrot joke was so funny! Kudos!
I love the intelligence y’all bring to y’all’s work
THank you Tex!
Durian with a beard, I was not ready for that either. Great build, gents!
if only the show put as much effort and attention to details like you did on this build
I love both of you since the Forge in fire days! Love to see you keep doing what we love to see! more power pls dont stop!
Matt's beard really gives the vibe in that helmet.
Great work as always! And what a way to through some dis to amazon!
@thatworks I think you should look into these scammers.
More respect shown for the source material shown in this 20 minute video than in the entire series itself.
Bro you’ve seen the entire series??
Id be willing to bet you've never even read The SIlmarillion...
When using a sledgehammer (or in this case a war hammer) to smash things, you need to slide your right hand down to your left hand as you drive the hammer down. Do this for more power and less strain on your back and body.
This applies to hoes, pickaxes and other two-handed smashing tools.
Yes. Basically a vertical bat swing.
Little ironic giving advice on how to use a hammer to guys that make a living swinging hammers…
@@KJ-kw7gh it is. But he looks inexperienced with using a big hammer to smash things. This method really busts the back.
Then again, he might be holding back to protect the hammer.
@@AWS137 Nobody is experienced in using a hammer this size. This things probably weighs 30-40 pounds, and it’s an odd size and face. Not like swinging a normal sledgehammer. It’s going to be awkward and hard to control.
Какая красивая железяка получилась! Даже через экран чувствуется массивность и солидность!
Omg I'm so glad I found these 2 guys again!
Nice work guys!
Can you guys make a chain mace? Love all the work you guys have been doing. Very talented group of metal workers and genuinely good people. Thanks!
The shot of it left in the stump is very cool, I like to imagine you using it as a test for a future apprentice: once they have the strength to extricate it, they can move on from just swinging the sledge :P
Superb work!
Amazing build!
Awesome guys great JOB !! :) love this one
Thanks Adam
@@ThatWorks I've been watching You for years ... love what you guys do ... especially when you do even all the detail that makes the difference :)
🙂
You guys are friggin animals in the shop. I hope you can continue these builds and enjoy the process as well
I'm glad I waited until 4:30 before I started screaming "no way in hell did they do all that by hand"
cool thanks for doing that, the dwarves would be amazed too
I always love the content thanks guys
Legolas daggers or Aragons dagger
I've been a fan of you guys since you made those lotr / hobbit builds on that other channel
Dude that is just beyond epic! I love the triangle head of it. I would NOT wanna be on the receiving end if that thing
I know he said he doesn’t like dwarves but ngl that was some of the most dwarvish smithing I’ve ever seen. These boys do just fantastic work.
Speaking of duren's acts, have you guys ever thought about doing your own interpretations of what that would be based off of the build styles that we've seen in the movies, or based off of the descriptions of the books? I think it would be a really interesting concept.
I would love to do that honestly
@@ThatWorks I am but one fan with but one vote to give, but you have it. Please do it.
Man... All those post vices just sitting there... I have enjoyed your content for quite awhile now. Y'all are very knowledgeable and skilled, and it shows...
Awesome work guys!
Fun video too :)
Love the money humor and music along with the techniques used to make your build. If I might suggest a future build of sorts. Build something from Dungeons & Dragons.
if you had to pick one....what would it be?
@@ThatWorks Well sir, There are so many unique and rare arms & armor within the arsinals of the varying worlds/settings that the notion of a specific weapon or armor piece would be a hard task to say the least. Almost as bad as finding a needle in a haystack by comparison. However I do propose this idea: within D&D there exist different levels of crafting such arms & armor.
To involve all the team at That Works, I would recommend something in the sword family of martial weapons - ideally a kick-ass hand and a half sword. Because this is what you normally do, I will suggest something slightly different. In Dungeons & Dragons, normal weapons can not be made into magic weapons; What I'm suggesting is make one of each - a Normal weapon and a Master-Worked weapon - and displaying the difference.
I know that all the team of That Works have the skills to produce masterful works of art, have an affinity for role-playing, an affinity for fantasy fiction as well as possess a good sense of humor, so what I am suggesting is not outside anyone's abilities. What will be different is that such a presentation will help educate other smiths, particularly the young ones, on the difference between good enough work and Excellence. Perhaps you already have such works in your shop, perhaps not. What is important is the Display of Excellence vs "good enough". Thanks for hearing me out and forgive me for being a bit of a pain in the butt, as well as poor spelling and grammer.
the years have passed an every notification im spectin to see Gae Bolg... but this is still awesome!
