Your thumbnails are always so clean. Great introduction to this grinder too, which I have recently seen popping up here and there. It is similar to the Sette in the straight through design and rotating collar, but it really looks badass. Oh, and I like your dry jokes sprinkled throughout your deliberate presentation - it's your calling card. Cheers!
I like the idea of a heavy-bodied shot with higher clarity. The price seems a bit high IMO. For the Aries' price I'd expect P64-level fit, finish and UX. Edit: I forgot mention... great review! Top notch coffee content on this channel 👏
You have an honest way about your reviews I truly like a lot. I want to first thank you for that. And I just watched your video on the AutoComb (excellent review video) and would like very much to see a review video on your opinion of the moonraker. Again, thank you for a very non bias review video channel. There are not many out there, so you have my subscription.
I'll stick woth my 78s Sculptor and Kopi Deva. The questionable quality for the price and because it looks like a stand mixer and a sewing machine had a baby it's a no from me
Looks cheap, and badging looks janky. Looks like a plastic blob. They should have went metal at this price. Edit: However, those burrs look fascinating. Are those notches like little pre-breakers or is it to aid in been feeding consistency?
As I understand it lower rpm often leads to smaller particle distribution, ie less variation in size. Maybe low rpm for pour over and high rpm for espresso?
Great video production quality, but honestly, I'm growing tired of all these grinder and espresso machine reviews by coffee youtubers. The grinder market is oversaturated with manufacturers just copying each other without introducing any new ideas or innovations. Coffee youtubers seem to be stuck in a cycle of repeating the same content by "reviewing" essentially identical grinders. I understand that gear reviews (especially grinders) attract a lot of views but coffee youtubers are also contributing to this "gear obsession". Perhaps that's why James Hoffmann doesn't do product reviews as often as before. Coffee youtubers should seriously shift their focus to reviewing coffee beans from local or global specialty roasters, similar to how wine youtubers/experts share their impression about wines from various price ranges and origins. They could also explore and share less-known single-origin coffees and highlight quality roasters that may not be as well-known. Coffee people should be more obsessed with coffee, not gears..
Lovely Review, but what really stood out for me was to subtle placement of the meticulous in the background at 10:38 and ongoing. Marvellous and already totally excited about THAT video :D (crossing fingers)
@@aramse ah i thought this is the new v10 retail version which you cleverly sneaked in. Anything you can say about an update on the meticulous, your long term experience, maybe a new video? Since a lot of UI/UX will have changed.
P64 is more $$ I believe but great flat burr grinder. There's so many different burrs for 64mm. Conicals are generally more forgiving / easy to get good results but generally a bit more blendy tasting with silkier body.
I like syrupy, chocolatey espresso, much of the time. So which cone burr grinder is the best at providing that style? Im newly subscribed and working my way through your hugely informative and amusing videos.
What’s your budget like? The J-Max is a great for that profile of shots. The baratza Sette 270 is also a good choice. Slightly more expensive you have the Niche.
@@aramse Thanks! The Niche is about 3x the price of the top Sette if bought locally here. I think I'll order one from the UK and wait. Or buy a j-Max for the exercise
I only do a pour-over, but I love your reviews, and this is another good one. I'm, patiently awaiting my Sculptor 78, which I ordered after your review. I know your reviews take a long time to do, but maybe you can do stand-up in between your coffee videos.
Did you try it with HE baskets? I heard Weber Key struggled with pulling those fast turboshots on them. How does this grinder stack up with MC6 and DRM grinders like Versalab and Honne?
My key has been fine after installing the bean feeder. That lets me grind light roasts at 30 RPM (but it does take a while...) which makes for some nice shots from the high flow billet baskets
I need to play with HE baskets. Been putting it off as I just haven’t had the time. I have tasted the Mazzer 83mm burrs a few times and from what I remember the shots were sharper and didn’t have this ultra smooth mouthfeel. But yeah I need to do some proper testing at some point.
@aramse if you do try, I would love to hear the results. I was going to get this grinder for mediu-dark, but while I was waiting switched to spirit basked and medium light.
Still waiting to receive the Zerno but they are very different grinders. In terms of build the Zerno should be miles ahead but in the cup I think it boils down to preference. Workflow I can’t comment on yet as I haven’t tested the Zerno.
It's honestly a very different profile that these present compared to most flats. It's got really nice texture but also offers a decent level of flavour separation. The shots are super smooth. Also there are sooo many 64mm burr options so you'd need to be more specific with which ones you're referring to to even begin to make a comparison.
This is a Baratza Sette in sheeps clothing. Cheap plastic, rotating collar, very cheap shopper. Sette is notorious for the hopper legs breaking as 3 of them have to be placed in 3 slots and then twisted to engage an actuator. Taking apart the sette for cleaning and fixing is so delicate amd finicky. The plastic bends so much it feels like a toy. The Sette is not solidly balanced. It can easily tip over because of its "7" design. This Aries looks so similar. Feels like the engineers said leta take the Sette, keep the body mainly plastic, but give it a bigger burr and RPM for people to play with because thats the new thing to play with. Im very tired of RPM selling points. The italian brand Baratza must be a little pissed off. And at over $1000 this is insane for not having majority metals parts for long term dependability
While there's some inspiration there's just no comparison between this and the Sette in terms of build. This has way more metal all around, the hopper locks in with magnets and the burr carrier alone could kill an entire army. The Sette is great but tends to break merely with a stern expression directed towards it.
@@aramseits Sette on steroids. Just saying any competent consumer paying $1000-$1200 for a grinder should expect higher grade material parts. How would it compare to Zerno Grinder ?
Is anyone out there really doing RPM profiling?
No, not really caught on yet. The orbit is the only grinder that offers it as a proper feature via the app.
