    Thank you so much! I love my soundbar, it needed more bass than what the wireless sub can produce. After seeing your video I went out and bought a sub and the converter box, and now movies and listening to music is so much more enjoyable.

    Thanks a lot @MATech. I’ve learned a lot than I expected. I just ordered for an Audioengine s6 sub to work with my Hisense Hs 205 2.0 soundbar but my Tv ( wc is not smart) has no optical ports rather HDMI arc, rca’s and an aux port. I was thinking of using an aux splitter to connect the sub and the soundbar.(wc has optical, usb, aux, hdmi arc and coaxial, plus Bluetooth). Is there any better way to go past this set up?? Will be grateful for your insights.

    • @MATechYoutube
      @MATechYoutube  Рік тому +1

      You can get hdmi splitters (another viewerer also had a strange setup and he ended up using that) which will allow you to split the signal to various devices but depending on the inputs of the sub and soundbar you may need a few connections between them to make it work.
      Also lip sync may be an issue so prioritise the soundbar and then set the sun below 80hz crossover and you shouldn’t be able to discern it.
      Another option is to use an external dsp but that obviously involves more cost.

      Usually when arc is selected it also enables optical at the same time but some TVs disable the optical so best to test with your tv set.
      Most I’ve tested have the optical signal being sent all the time regardless of output method being utilised

    Hi I need some help, I have an LG Wallpaper TV that comes with the soundbar/TV brain box all built into one unit. The soundbar has zero bass, I'm currently using another LG soundbar with sunwoofer hooked up to the brain box/soundbar via optical cable. I pretty much have 2 soundbars but not using the main one, is there a way to hook up a subwoofer to the oem TV soundbar through optical or any other way so I can eliminate the second soundbar? Please help!

    • @MATechYoutube
      @MATechYoutube  Рік тому

      The optical out is always outputting sound regardless how you have it setup.
      Firstly you want your main soundbar that you are using to be connected via hdmi to the brain, secondly take the optical out from your main brain to an external sub like in this video to add extra bass.
      You will need to reduce the crossover below 60hz to prevent you getting a delayed bass response as frequencies that low aren’t as noticeable (the added devices delay the bass compared to if the sub was connected straight to your actual soundbar, if that makes sense).

    Hi. I have a JBL multibeam 5.0 connected to the TV via HDMI earc. It sounds great but lacks the rumble of a dedicated sub. So you're saying I could run an optical from the TV to a converter to a sub and use them in conjunction with each other?

    • @MATechYoutube

      If your tv allows it yes, for some tvs there’s an option to enable hdmi+optical in the audio settings, other TVs just have the optical work all the time regardless.

    Thanks a lot for your explanation. I wanna ask, I want to hook up the active subwoofer to my TV without any additional amplifier/receiver or soundbar. My built in TV speaker, I think sounds pretty good, but lack of low frequency or deep bass. Is that possible, I can get both sounds from TV speaker and active subwoofer at the same time? I don't need soundbar or any external speaker. Just wanna to make it simple and slick by adding only an active subwoofer to the TV to boost the LFE and deep bass. As fyi, My TV audio output ports are Digital audio out/Toslink and HDMI ARC. No RCA and Digital coaxial out. Thanks MA Tech.

    • @MATechYoutube
      @MATechYoutube  5 місяців тому

      Yes this method will work, you just need to get a relevant adapter for your tv outputs and it has to convert to a analog signal for your active subwoofer.
      The 1 issue you will most likely have is syncing the bass to the audio from the tv.
      There’s 2 workarounds for this…
      1- just set the sub to below 60/50hz or as low as you need to go before the sync no longer is an issue (lower the bass the less it needs to be in sync for it to still have the same impact)
      2- use some sort of minidsp or similar to synchronise the bass to the tvs audio, this will incur additional cost and setup time.
      I did do this exact method for a while when I first got my projector and was happy with it to a point so it should definitely work for you also.

      @@MATechUA-cam for the first method that you explain, if I adjusted the Sub Frequency as low as 50/60 hz, are the sound of vocal and music come out along with the boom/thump from the Sub or just the boom/thump ?
      I remember, back then, I have a LG Micro DVD player, I wanted to add a sub, but it didn't has audio/aux output port or dedicated sub out, just positive and negative terminals for hook up speaker cable. I used passive subwoofer and connected it to the terminal to powered it. And it worked, but not just the boom or thump came out from sub, but the voice or music also. Did you experience this issue?

    • @MATechYoutube
      @MATechYoutube  5 місяців тому +1

      The sub will be filling in sound the original system can’t produce, it won’t take those signals from the original source but if you’re adding a sub I’m guessing the original setup wouldn’t be capable of it.
      Basically the issue you can have is at 120hz (thx spec) some deep voices will be played through the subs, but below 80hz it’s not discernible where the bass is coming from so if the timing is slightly off (ms) then it won’t be too noticeable.

    Hello friend, thanks a lot for all the information provided,
    I have a rather odd couple of questions, first i have a LG tv and soundbar bundle very similar to what you have, soundbar is connected to tv via hdmi e-arc, obviously no output at all from the soundbar, but i have the optical output from the tv so can do just like what you did,
    My first question, once you set the subwoofer levels and everything else will the volume or the output of the subwoofer increases and decreases when you change the volume from soundbar or the tv or it's fixed at one output and you have to adjust manually? If it works that's fantastic.
    The second question, Option two, assuming the option one volume doesn't work, can i use a HDMI splitter connected to the tv hdmi arc then one hdmi goes to the soundbar and the other goes to a hdmi to rca adapter then to the extra subwoofer ( don't know if that's possible and any downfall for this I.e lose ARC) also there are so many variant of splitters in the market. Also will it solve the delay problem you experienced at certain frequencies?
    Many thanks and keep them coming please.

    • @MATechYoutube
      @MATechYoutube  Рік тому +1

      Volume remains fixed so has to be adjusted manually, when I had mine setup this way I simply set a lower gain level to where it would blend nicely when watching at my normal viewing volume.
      Can’t comment on hdmi splitter as I’m not sure it would send volume info to both connections, only one way to find out I suppose.

      Unlikely that will work without major surgery.
      Not sure what Samsung uses as their signal for wireless subs but to bypass it you’ll most likely need to modify the board to take a speaker level or rca input which to be honest probably isn’t worth the effort as the bass put out by any soundbar sub is going to boomy at best.

Should I connect the subwoofer to the TV via a digital-to-analog audio converter and use an optical cable? Is that the correct way? You need to connect the soundbar to another smart box, such as, Apple TV, Firestick, Roku via HDMI. And, you need to connect the external subwoofer to the TV via optical through digital to analog convertor.

      This method is a workaround for those who don’t have a sub out on either their soundbar or tv, if you have a sub out then that’s a better option but if not then this method will enable you to add a sub via the optical port.
      You need to be sure to get a digital to analogue converter or this won’t work as it won’t be able to interpret the signal otherwise.

      It’s more prevalent if you set the sub to 120hz (thx), if you set it to 80hz or below it’s almost impossible to distinguish as at that point the bass can’t be localised.
      This is obviously dependent on the delay from your source device (in my case the Hisense L9G ) but most should be okay below 80hz.

      I’m not using a soundbar anymore, I upgraded months ago, but using this example you leave everything as it is.
      The optical port is always outputting a signal whether it’s selected in the settings or not therefore you leave your setup as it is and the subwoofer’s amplifier will get its signal when connected via the optical port.
      Set the crossover below 80hz and you shouldn’t be able to notice any delay in the audio between the arc/optical port outputs.

    Alright you seem to be the only person that can help here lol.
    I have a Samsung Soundbar and Subwoofer. Just like your case here, I bought a big boy Sub to add to the Set up.
    The Soundbar only has 3 plugs in the back Optical (which is in the TV for sound) and then power cable and a USB. So I tried to get an RCA to USB cable and that didn’t seem to do the trick.
    With the converter you have here and the most that I see on Amazon it has RCA on one side and then Optical on the other. I could be totally dumb here , but what then plugs into my TV to connect all devices for sound.
    Do I need to find an optical splitter? Any help is appreciated here

    • @MATechYoutube
      @MATechYoutube  Рік тому

      You go optical from the tv to the analogue converter, and then rca from optical converter to your sub.

    • @hunterito0048
      @hunterito0048 Рік тому

      @@MATechUA-cam But then the Soundbar wouldn’t be connected to anything. Soundbar optical connects to TV. The analog Converter only has one optical port, from what I see

    • @MATechYoutube
      @MATechYoutube  Рік тому

      Ah, I see.
      To be honest any soundbar that doesn’t have hdmi probably isn’t worth messing around with, the way you’d need it would be soundbar via hdmi to tv and then optical out to the converter and from there to the subwoofer.
      The only soundbars I’ve seen that only have optical usually have very very low output and thus any subwoofer you pair to them would be overpowering everything and you’ll struggle to get bass and audio in sync.

    • @hunterito0048
      @hunterito0048 Рік тому

      @@MATechUA-cam I see what you’re saying. So you think I would just need a whole new Soundbar? I mean it has great output I think, (plus my neighbors think so too😬….)
      Also the HDMI 2.1 is from the 4k TV to PS5. So I don’t understand w my little brain about how I would do that either.
      Do you think I could find an Optical into Auxiliary cable, to attach from Soundbar to Converter. And then Coverter to the TV with a standard optical?
      Or possibly that I could attach RCA (sub) to the Converter and Optical (Soundbar) into the converter. To then attach Converter with an Auxiliary to the TV….? But I think that wouldn’t work because the TV should be running sound through the optical port….

      First thing you need to determine is whether the projector or soundbar has any additional outputs and secondly whether they work at the same time as hdmi arc, if the answer to either of this is negative then you won’t be able to connect the additional subwoofer using your setup.

    • @MATechYoutube
      @MATechYoutube  15 днів тому

      Is this a general issue or to do with the setup in this video?
      The type of content shouldn’t make any difference as far as optical out aside from the fact that optical doesn’t support atmos but that’s not an issue as you’re only utilising LFE for this hack anyway.
      Most likely your issue will lie in one of the cables in the setup possibly being damaged.
      The final thing to check is the subwoofer and amplifier setup as what you’ve described also has symptoms of bad earthing within an amplifier but that would be last port of call if it’s working otherwise.
      Most tvs output optical all the time but some do need you to go into the settings of the tv and change it to allow arc + optical as well as setting the audio output method so may be worth trying them to see if that solves your issue.

      Everything needed is mentioned in the video, but the other issue you may have using that setup is audio sync so you’ll need to test with frequency to see if you can improve it or use external bass management to delay or advance the bass to the individual sub you want to add accordingly.

    • @MATechYoutube
      @MATechYoutube  2 місяці тому

      Yes there’s devices you can use that manage external subwoofers, I can’t remember the name of the brand but you’ll probably find videos on UA-cam about the most common brands, they’re just external bass controllers that take a single subwoofer signal and usually split it into 4 that you can time align as required.
      You may be able to do enough via just the amplifier for the subwoofer but if not then external processors would be able to do it for you.
      You won’t know until you test in your setup.
