- The most common question I get is "how can I add surround speakers to my soundbar"? This video completely answers that question!
How to Add Surround Speakers to a Soundbar
1) Use natively compatible speakers if possible (best)
2) Use the Insignia Universal Rear Speaker Kit (okay)
Insignia Speaker Kit on Amazon: geni.us/iltH
3) Use a wireless speaker kit with various splitters/adapters (okay)
OSD Wireless Kit on Amazon: geni.us/qgyQ
Dynasty Wireless Kit on Amazon: geni.us/WZ65J
My overall suggestion is to either :
1) use natively compatible speakers with your soundbar.
2) If your soundbar cannot use surround speakers natively, then you should purchase a soundbar that comes with or is capable of using surround speakers.
Check out my review of the Nakamichi Shockwafe Pro 7.1.4 that comes will 2 surround speakers: • Nakamichi Shockwafe Pr...

Video I exactly looking for posted just 34 mins ago. Thank you!
Glad I could help! Hope this answered any of the questions that you had!
@@JonahMatthes It was very helpful, I learned about discreet sound throughout this video and that is why I now know I shouldn't expand soundbar system with a 3rd party product. I also like the specific detail topics you cover, specially in your website.
Speaking of that, watched everything on the channel but still in between two options. I just ordered LG B9 (literally minutes ago), for sound, what would you go with; LG SL8Y (Atmos) with 2 SPK8-S (satellites) so 5.1.2 ...or SL10Y and no expansion. Reason I ask this is that I haven't got chance to test if the satellites have sort of lag/delay.
forgot to mention that the soundbar natively supports SPK8-S satellites.
New subscriber. A whole lot of information. Mostly over my head. I’m going to have to revisit this video several more times for better clarity. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. 👍🏾👍🏾
Excelente información. Es el único video que he visto tratando el tema. Gracias por compartirlo. Dios te siga bendiciendo...
This is from Livewire...When the digital optical connection was developed, it was made to accommodate the digital audio standards at the time (mainly 2-channel CD playback). Thus, digital audio signals such as 5.1/7.1 multi-channel PCM, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS:X, and Auro 3D Audio cannot be transferred via digital optical connections. These types of audio signal formats require the use of HDMI connections.
Awesome video, I have the soundbar Samsung J Series WJ355 and I was thinking of any possible way to add rear speakers, this video gave me so many ideas to better enjoy my movies during quarantine THANK YOU
Thank you for all your knowledge sharing
Omg. This is what I needed.
yes it is what many need but i never saw it working, I just saw the diagrams of how it connects. 🤷
Great research 👍🏼
Good job , explains well
Pro logic, pro logic ii (x and x) are all Surround mixed in a 2 ch adio stream.
Its done by matrix the audio, and play it out of phase (difference between the speakers) with a delay, in later pro logic ii and on theres a lot more to it. If you want to acces a Surround track easy, you take the plus from a stereo set, and place them in minus and plus on a speaker, this is the Surround track though without delay, this is how it was done way back.
Very impressive video
Thank you!
👍🏻
Thanks for your recommendation of the nakamichi pro I was able to get it for $550 and I love it. You can feel thee sound before I even get it turned half way up. Love it
I dont mean to be offtopic but does any of you know of a method to log back into an instagram account??
I somehow lost the account password. I love any tricks you can offer me.
@Issac Roberto Instablaster =)
@Alfonso Vance I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm trying it out atm.
Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
@Alfonso Vance It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my ass :D
@Issac Roberto You are welcome xD
Heya There Jonah, happy new year mate. I'm just commenting to say thank you for your content, I've become one of your subscribers as I've found recently ( or wondered recently) with the introduction of the "Matter" protocol and its adoption by so many companies, whether that could be a "route" to finding a "sweet spot" in the adding speakers to dedate / issue??? What do you think?
This is what I need to know!
Thanks you are very Informative
Wow this is awesome, if I could add rears to the Jbl 2.1 deep bass for the guest room it would be epic. Amazing budget setup
bro i also have jbl deep bass , which speakers did u add....? and how..
Had you done?
Once rear speakers are connected with a soundbar and volume is set, do they react to the main volume from the soundbar, or you're forced to use 2 remotes (one for soundbar and the Insignia one for the rear speakers)? Many thanks!
Hi Jonah, thank you for your video! I have a question about my JBL soundbar. I currently have a JBL 5.1 soundbar with the detachable satellite speakers and 10 in sub. I bought about 3yrs ago. I’m wanting to purchase the new JBL bar 9.1 soundbar. Do you think I would be able to pair my old JBL sub with the new JBL 9.1 system. I think it would be pretty awesome if I could. 5.2.4
Nice.. Thanks brother
I wonder, is it possible to add additional speakers to the set that comes with the rear speakers?
Did you ever find a better updated version or way to get rear wireless speakers ?
How would it work with a dolby atmos bar? I know it won't have the atmos effect and might sound weird, but curious if it'd even work or if it'd lock me at DD/DD+ since I have to have my optical cable as an output
I found a "LG nb3520a soundbar".
Works great!
Are there any compatible speaker for this unit?
Thanks in advance..
Hama RS100 is another unit with digita input and out. I hope it works better. Price is at the moment 109e in Amazon
Which speakers would you recommend for the Harman Kardon sb20?
The auxiliary input must be using Dolby pro logic 2 decoding (or something similar), and outputing the surround channels to the surround speakers.
I had the same issue with interference to the point I just said forget it! Earlier wireless speakers were terrible. Also, depending on the device, I have always found that DX will work flawlessly with most applications, but TX is an absolute nightmare to keep stable.
Thanks for the Video. Is there a way to connect external sub along with my bose soundtouch 300. Any devices suits my usecase without any lag in audio. Can you please come up with those videos Thanks.
i have STR-K990 av receiver. is it capable to send signals to bigger speakers as it's own are too small?
It is applicable to creative stage 2.1
When same transmission of audio in speakers it’s called analog audio… in simple terms analog vs digital audio… back in the days there was amplifier that had crossover… to where u could cut either treble or bass to a speaker
How would the universal rear speaker kit work with an Atmos sound bar?
Is it possible to play UTV soundbars to subwoofers? Wanting to add bass to soundbar on golf cart. Thanks in advance
Hi! I have JBL 3.1 and currently not satisfied due to the absence of mid-range output. Anyway i can do something like adding additional speaker to make it better?
I’m using the soundbar via ARC from my TV.
Hi mate,
Can these connect to my LG SH8 4.1 sound bar..?
Thanks
At 3:54 you mentioned only one brand has discrete true surround rear audio. I have had a Vizio soundbar for years now that came with 2 rear speakers that are true rear channels. I'm actually looking for a way to duplicate the sound coming out of the soundbar, to come out of my rear speakers for added sound, not the background noise I get with surround sound.
I know I’m late but on the Vizio M512a-H6 I have I select the (Dual) setting & it plays the same sound from the sound bar out of the 2 rear speakers
I have an old technics receiver (no HDMI, no pre-outs, no optical fiber audio, only RCA), a Samsung Smart TV and a JBL Soundbar. Is there a way to connect all the 3 together? I thought about connecting the soundbar via HDMI ARC and the receiver via optical audio (using a digital to analog adapter), however there is no way the TV software is able to understand that setup 😂
Is there any chance jbl releases a rear speaker kit for for their soundbars?
swa 8500 also supports q60t soundbar
Really good video! You do not know if LG has similar that you can pair different subwoofers? Bought their 2020 sn11rg. Had wanted a little more bass from it. Or simply connected 2.
Hi Jonah, I have a question: I have JBL soundbar 2.1 deep bass (only support hdmi, optical and bluetooth) and I wanted to get a set of studio monitors as well. How would the sound be if I just use a aux port (usually connecting my laptop or rasberry pi device) and convert it to hdmi and use the same aux port to split output to another aux-xlr wire to my studio monitor. I understand studio monitor system and soundbar will essentially receive the same signal. Will this be a bad idea and ruin all sounds?
how did this work out for you? I have the same idea with the same bar...
Question: I have a Vizio 5.1.2 m512-h6 soundbar whereby I have two satellite speakers that are wired into the subwoofer. If I were to get this Insignia kit, is there any benefit I would gain? Also, I didn't get how to Insignia kit sends sound to the receiver since I wouldn't have a receiver if I have a soundbar. Currently, the cables for satellite speakers connect to subwoofer so that means I am getting equal sound from both of my rare speakers at the same time as from the center front main soundbar. I want to make it so that I only get needed sound from either right or left or sometimes both like I would expect in a true surround system. Can I make this happen?
Question, I have a receiver with wired speakers going to it. I would like to get rid of the receiver but keep all of my wired speakers but I'm not sure if it is possible. The reason why I want to get rid of my receiver it doesn't always work right.
I have a samsung r60. That says in owners manuel its compatible with 8500s but its not labeled on kits compatible units. It should work right?
Need some help. I have a older Samsung j4000. I had Samsung rear wireless speakers but the link box went bad so I purchased another one no it won’t link it seems it’s looking for the old link box any suggestions
If I have book shelf powered speakers with optical in would it work with a srt1000 Yamaha sound base with optical in
I have a Samsung soundbar and see the rear speaker kit but from what I see it's not truly wireless because they have to be either connected to the base or one another which limits the area they can be used in.
I just solderd the wires from my external speakers ( red and black ) to the sound bars speakers red and black .. so each seperate external speaker was wired to each seperate sound bar speaker and boom instant surround sound work great.
I was thinking about doing this…. Does it really work???
Hi, Do you have a surround sound system the works for seniors that uses the TV controller to turn the sound on and off and control the volume, not a separate controller. Thanks
Hello, I need some help please, I dont know if that is the place but anyway, I'll try if you can help me.
I have a jbl 2.1 deep bass soundbar, and I want to add more speakers, but as little as possible cables, 1 way I was thinking about if ther is any blutooth device that I can conect the TV to it and then to connect all speakers including the soundbar to the blutooth device and hear the sound in all of the speakers?
or do I need a different device or a different way to do that?
Please help.
