  • MidiMixer is an AUv3 plugin specifically designed for AUM which allows you to control your mix and record automation which is synced to the AUM timeline. You can control up to 12 AUM channels at once and create up to 8 snapshots of the mixing desk. You can smoothly fade from one snapshot into another at the touch of a button and even record these transitions as part of the automation for your song.
MidiMixer ships with two AUM session templates that can help quickly configure AUM and automatically load MidiMixer.
MidiMixer sends control messages to AUM using MIDI CC and Note on/off messages. It relies on the default settings for AUM which makes setup is quick and easy. By default, you have control over 12 AUM tracks and a single group track for overall volume. You can control AUM's fader, pan, mute and solo settings for each of the 12 channels. We also provide a user option on CC20 which allows you to send custom data to control other AUM settings (or a piece of MIDI equipment of your choice). This user parameter is not mapped to any controls but is available in the controller editor.
Finally all recorded automation is fully editable in the automation editor, giving you the tools and scope to work in real time while your mix is playing.

Due to the fact 'Ed The Outcast' filed a copyright claim on the intro for the original video, I've had to resubmit without this content. My apologies if you are coming on this video a second time around. The moral of this story is do not use any content from third parties even if they donate content and help beta test. There may be a nasty sting in the tail.

Very bad how this turns out🙁
You might have mentioned Ed in the first video. What’s so hard to be nice and put a preface to the first video that you’ve published and give some respectful words to Ed, like in your second (MidiMixer update)video. Yes I’ve read that comment in the comment box, but I think the most people didn’t. If you were so thankful in the first place you should have done it and at least pin the comment in the update video, so that everyone could notice that. Also you could have avoid the copyright thing if you only had mention „example and music by Ed & a little link to his YT channel.
„The whole project was brought to me by ˋ Ed The Outcast´ who worked closely during the making of this app. I want to offer big thank you to Ed...“
If that’s what you think and what you mean you could have done more in the first place.
This is my honest opinion which I would like to bring to you.

@@sascha10489 I've known Ed for a few years, and we always got on fine. I already had this project in beta when I asked Ed if he wanted to become a beta tester. He made some nice suggestions during developement for which I gave him credit. He also created that whole intro for me, for which I sent him money... I've never helped any other beta testers or contributers,, but like you I felt sorry for him and wanted to help him out. Suddenly out of nowhere he starts sending dozens of threatening emails claiming he will have the app removed from the store and issues a copyright strike on my video. Yes, I forgot to put a thankyou message on the original video, but since the intro was created for the sole purpose of including in my video I took that as his concent.
If you want to know where the original idea came from look no further than my recent additions to NuRack. I've just combined two of the existing modules into one, and added things such as snapshots etc. So just how do you think Ed has any claim to this?

    • @rrrobart9

@@PaultheMusicMan I can try! I’m thinking you could have 4-8 groups. Within each group will be a priority level assignment (top, mid, low). What would need to happen would be some kind of conditional logic built in: if this then that. It would operate on the mutes I suppose. If a top priority channel is activated (unmuted) then all lower group members will be muted. When the top member is muted the mid levels are unmuted. It’s used in samplers too. Aside from this, I can’t offer much more explanation. It can also be thought of as selecting bus groups on older mixers. I think I remember playing with one that had a matrix of push switches that corresponded to sub mix or group. When you push one switch the previous depressed switch pops back up. I think for midi it might require multiple mappings to a single toggle. Does that make sense?

I have a few suggestions for updates, I rarely automate the pan position and the faders are a but on the shorter side so an option to remove the pan to make the faders longer would be great, a way to make even longer transitions would be very useful in ambient music at least, and a way to smooth the curves in the automation it's quite tricky to paint smooth curves... just a few suggestions, thank you so much for all your apps!

I look forward to the next update and respectfully request (again) the possibility of 2 mixer views at the same time eg. the standard fader layout along with the user layout for easy access to faders and aux sends like on a traditional 8 or 12 channel mixing desk.
I understand if this is not possible and it's still a great addition to AUM.
One other thing - is it possible to limit the amount of travel of the AUM faders so that
moving the faders all the way to the top in MidiMixer will only make the AUM faders go to 0db?
I think this is possible when using an external midi controller by adjusting the settings in AUM but I don't know if those adjustments will apply to MidiMixer.

    • @PaultheMusicMan
      @PaultheMusicMan  3 роки тому

To achieve 24 channels the session loads two instances of MIDIMixer, each controlling 12 channels each. So you can program 8 snapshots on each and record them as automation. In theory you can even send MIDI notes 0-7 on channel 16 to both instances to trigger snapshots on both instances at the same time, but I'm not sure you need to go that far.

Hi Paul, Been using Multitrack recorder and just bought MidiMixer which looks ideal for my simple set up. I use acoustic guitar, vocals and a Fishman connect midi pickup; so now I can plan to fade the midi effects in and out using the irig blueboard pedal and MidiMixer (my plan for Sunday afternoon!). I can then play live and record simultaneously in one take. I wonder if you can provide the final link? I would like to record a sessions midi data in synch to enable the addition of a new midi instrument to the session at a later date. (I’ve found some lovely new/old synths on Fingerlab especially the Mellowsound Mellotron!)
Is this possible via any of your existing apps? If not is it possible to add to MidiMixer? I notice the fader data can be recorded so perhaps the raw data from a session using Fishman Connect midi pick up can be recorded in synch for later use?
    Cheers,

Hi Anthony, I guess what your looking for is something I haven't made yet, but there is a good chance I will at some point soon. MultiTrack can record audio and MidiMixer can only record it's own parameter movement so what it required is something that logs MIDI data and plays back in sync with the timeline. I did add something like this to NuRack, but its probably overkill for what you need. Watch this space, hopefully I can create a standalone app that meets your needs.

@@PaultheMusicMan Cheers! Always good to have something to look forwards to! I figured a partial workaround via midi pedal control of the transport button in Aum and the ‘drawing’ function in Midimixer.
If the Midi data recorder app is possible then could it also work as a generator via the draw function editing? e.g. play a quick melody idea, record it as midi, edit and correct any glitches then send it to any midi instrument...maybe even generate a harmony or two along the way. Like a music notebook for folk who don’t read or write music but who can happily play an instrument, generate a visual image of the midi data and then learn to draw lines of melody via a magic pencil? So its a midi data recorder and generator...if dsp allows it could be full colour spectrum linked to the note frequency! Lol

it would be very nice to get a proper midi remote control implementation. For example for changing snapshots etc.. The current way with channel 16 and notes is very inflexible (in layers this problem is fixed: very nice!). If you want to use CC values, you have to convert midi data, which creates unnecessary complexity. Why not use the standard function of AUM to learn a midi control for certain values? Also, the snapshot buttons are far too small.

    • @PaultheMusicMan

@@PaultheMusicMan You mean the midi settings page (it's about the MidiMixer app)? I don't think it makes sense to use settings for midi remote control inside of an auv3. The advantage of AUM is that there is a central area for midi remote settings for all apps. in the mixer app I can't change the settings for the snapshots (it's on channel 16, which I have to redirect as my keyboard doesn't have a channel setting for split points). The next disadvantage is that it is possible to mix the settings of AUM and the app itself, which can lead to confusing double assignments, and last but not least, the midi settings page of MidiMixer is not very intuitive. Why do I have to activate the midi remote first? After a few weeks I'm pretty sure I've forgotten the settings there and am looking for a midi remote setting in AUM. The app doesn't seem to resend stored settings when reloading a snapshots. Say I'm in snap 1 and unmute a channel manually in AUM (maybe through and external controller) and hit snap 1 again to restore the stored settings it doesn't do that. The channel stays unmuted. It would be great if the app would just resend the midi again instead of needing to go back and forth between snapshots.

As I see it there would be no feedback issue as it would be a hardware controller controlling midi mixer and midi mixer doing it’s normal job so no feedback. and whileI have your attention an app to convert channel aftertouch to cc or program change would be good. A lot of apps just don’t use aftertouch, but it would be useful for momenteraly turning on Leslie in galilaeo etc. So when you depress harder on the keys the Leslie comes on and when you release it goes off again, and things of that Ilk.

Sad situation. Unsubscribing from his channel. Thanks for your hard work and time.

not bad but quite limited features, imo. I gave the app back and got my money refund...
What about groups? -lock groups for faders or at least A/B buttons on each channel and a crossfader. as far as I see you can only automate volume (and mute and solo) but automating Auv3 apps is not possible!? I have 3 or4 maybe 5 4pockets audio apps but none of them really satisfy me.Atomizer gets 10 of 100 points...maybe.
And: the surface of 4pockets apps: the GUI doesnˋt have to look like in real live mixers and devices. Some things work fine when you can put your hands on but not good on touchscreen. AUM has a futuristic and very good surface, when you load midimixer yoùre straight back in the ˋ00s.
Ìd like to see more companies tryinˋ to think outside the box , delivering quality audio products with improved usability. like Sugarbytes, Ohmforce or Bram Bos.
    Nice tutorial anyway
    cheers.

It is not possible for an AUv3 to control other AUv3's unless you are the host application (i.e. AUM). The build in mixer is limited for a good reason. It is not mixing audio but midi. The purpose of MidiMixer is to record and play automation data along with the timeline and was never designed to be a fully fledged mixer. To implement such a think would require the AUM developer to do so on an audio level. I'm just doing the best I can with the tools I have, and filling a gap that was missing.

      Hi,
->locking all faders or none still seems unhandy,(even useless) to me as you could also use the masterfader instead(?)
Implementing groups (or a crossfader!) to Midimaster should be no problem, no technical issue, I guess...
->Lets say I load Grooverider GR-1 , Thesys and Synthmaster One in AUM; GR-1 can trigger different patterns in Thesys then Thesys sends the pattern's midievents to Synthmaster...-> sound.
thats 3 AUv3 units talking midi and that also works without a host app like AUM or any other host.
I think recording automations is not possible but--depends on what you're going for-- its easy, sometimes challenging to find workarounds...
->I have 3 usb-midi controllers connected to the usb host ports of an Iconnectivity mioXM interface, which is an awesome routing-opportunities-machine, on the 4 DIN ports I have the Ipad (AUM/Thesys/Egoist/Rozeta/etc.), Octatrack, DSI Mopho and Virus ti-- all devices sending midi to each other and back on their dedicated midichannels.- So far the most midi freedom I've ever had.
-> Sorry I didn't want to talk bad about 4pockets, --SloMoFX and Multitrack are nice.
->Don`t get me wrong buddy, we're still cool, let me know what you think...
->CarlMikaelBjork says: limitation is creative liberation.

@@gottfriedxy8994 The fader lock was really just a way to get more headroom in your mix if you want to add more instruments, to save overpowering the master mix channel. The mixer groups and cross fades are good ideas, and something I would consider adding at some point in the future.
